Dying & The Greatest 5 Regrets publisher’s note

On May 4th, 2022, my sweet Swedish grandmother passed away at the age of 96. It’s interesting to me that somehow 96 years doesn’t seem all that long. She will absolutely be missed. When someone close to me passes away, I, like all of you, do a lot of reflecting. I reflect on their life, what they meant to me, what they meant to others, memories we shared, and so on. I believe it is important to also look at the lessons we learned from their time on earth. Lessons they taught us directly, of course, but also lessons they taught us indirectly by how they lived and what they did and didn’t do with their time. I feel that doing this is a way of honoring them. It is a way of amplifying their impact on the world and their legacy left behind. There is a book called The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying written by Bronnie Ware, who was a palliative nurse that spent many years taking care of the dying in the last three months of their lives. While sharing this time with these people, she would continually question them about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently. Over time, common themes surfaced again and again.

14 • June 2022

What do you think these regrets were? Didn’t make enough money? Didn’t vacation enough? Should have worked more? Not quite. The five greatest regrets of the dying are: I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard. I wish I had the courage to express my feelings. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends. I wish I had let myself be happier. Wow. Powerful. I wonder which of these my grandma would have had? It is an important question to ask ourselves. So, if you were to die tomorrow, which of these regrets would you have? Are you not living a life that is true to you? Are you working too hard? Are you expressing your feelings the way you know you should? Are you staying in touch with your friends? Are you allowing yourself to be happy? I want to encourage you to take some time and reflect on this. What I love about these five regrets is the way they are all inside of our own control. So, if you feel like you are missing the mark in one or all of these five areas…change it. I know for myself that when I shut my eyes for the last time, I want to have as little regret as I possibly can. RIP, Grandma Lorraine. JORDAN ESPESETH Owner jordan.espeseth@realproducersmag.com

INTENTIONAL IMPACT

T

he good things that happen in life don’t take place by happenstance. They result from someone having a vision, organizing their efforts with a plan, and then seeing it through with positive energy. Elizabeth Gleason is a perfect example of that. As a Team Leader with Vine House Real Estate Group and REALTOR® with Rogers Healy & Associates, Elizabeth makes a real difference for those around her with her drive and intentional impact. “I have a gratitude journal that I write in every day. I believe it’s important to give thanks to the Lord for our lives and everything we have … to be intentional and purposeful in our lives,” Elizabeth says. “I make it a point to call and check on people. I like to be everyone’s friend. I send people notes in the mail and leave little packages on doorsteps. It’s not about the sale. It’s the relationship, and after the sale is when the relationship really begins.” FINDING OPPORTUNITY Elizabeth grew up in a small town. As she came of age, her father encouraged her to move to DFW to take advantage of greater opportunities. “I worked for a trading card company in my 20s. It was a great role. As part of what I did,

realproducersmag.com

I got to travel, go to Super Bowls, and meet pro athletes,” she recalls. In the meantime, as Elizabeth shopped for her home, she had conversations that opened her eyes to a new possible path for her in life. “I really enjoyed watching HGTV at the time,” Elizabeth says.

Dallas Real Producers • 17

“I didn’t understand the job of a real estate agent, but then our agent at the time told me that they thought I would be very good as a REALTOR® myself.” BECOMING A REALTOR® As Elizabeth thought more about it, she earned her real estate license about 11 years ago, then continued her work in corporate America. Then, about four years ago, she jumped into real estate full-time. Sometimes, when you start something new, it fits like a glove. That was the case for Elizabeth as she started her journey in real estate. As she says, “From the beginning, I loved it and the way that the work was always changing with new opportunities to help people reach their goals.” TEAM SPIRIT Today, Elizabeth takes great pride in the team of five professionals who join her as part of Vine House Real Estate Group. “We all work with buyers, sellers, and those leasing. I’m so happy with our group. They are all dear friends of mine, and I’ve known all of them for at least a few years,” Elizabeth says with a smile. “It’s very rewarding to see all of them progress in their careers and buy their own homes. I love pouring into people, being their mentor, and watching them grow.” There are plenty of signs of success that have been built through time. In fact, in 2021, she and her team helped 75 families with $27 million in sales volume. FULFILLING LIFE Away from work, Elizabeth treasures time with her family, 18 • June 2022

including her four children — her daughter, Kallista; her son, Enrique; her daughter, Kyleigh; and her daughter, Jurni. She also looks forward to time spent with her boyfriend, Will. “Will has been a big part of my success. He is my biggest supporter,” she says. In her free time, Elizabeth enjoys time working in her yard, as well as volunteering, social events, and traveling. When it comes to giving back, Elizabeth supports a nonprofit called I Can Still Shine, a women’s organization to support those who have been subjected to abuse and are getting a new start in life. She also enjoys being involved with her church … Compass Christian Church. LEADING BY EXAMPLE Those who have the chance to get to know and work with Elizabeth appreciate the way her positivity and light leave them feeling better for having a few minutes talking with her. “I think it’s so important to smile. I tell people that we will be friends for the rest of our lives,” Elizabeth says with a warm smile. “When someone is in need of help, I hope they think of me, and they know I will be there to help them.” Congratulations to Elizabeth Gleason. As this month’s Rising Star, she leads the way forward … demonstrating true intentional impact on those around her. “Life will throw you curveballs. But if you can stay grounded and understand what your ‘why’ is, we can accomplish anything,” she says. “Don’t give up on any of your dreams, no matter what your life looks like today.” @realproducers

LEADING WITH EXCELLENCE Written by: Dave Danielson • Photos by: URSPECIAL

Those who start out on the journey of selling or buying their home are often intimidated by the process. During that time, your leadership and support make all of the difference. That’s an area where Kelly Pearson excels. Success Step-by-Step

As a REALTOR® and team leader with Douglass Elliman, Kelly guides her clients each step of the way … in the process, leading with excellence. “I like taking a listing and helping the sellers get their house ready and securing the best deal for them. We take them step-by-step through what to expect along the way, so they aren’t blindsided,” Kelly says. “Today’s market is a totally different animal than anything we have seen. We want to make sure that we are totally transparent with our sellers and that we are helping them understand what to expect along the way.” Getting Her Start

Kelly earned her real estate license in 2010. Prior to that, she gained valuable

realproducersmag.com

experience during her 17 years in the grocery business. As she remembers, “I started out when I was 16 as a bagger and worked my way up through cashier, front-end manager, and then went into the bakery and deli departments with Albertson’s for ten years.” Kelly and her husband, Rick, got married in 1997. Over the next several years, they moved to other areas, including North Carolina and Colorado, before eventually moving to Texas for Rick’s job. Committing to a New Career

Like many who end up in real estate, Kelly had thoughts about it long before actually entering the business. “I had always wanted to get into real estate, but I didn’t have the confidence,” she remembers. “My husband encouraged me to go into real estate. So did the agents who helped us with our transaction for our own home. I got my license online and then joined Keller Williams, where I worked for 11 years.”

Learning and Growing

During her time at Keller Williams, Kelly enjoyed a mix of individual and team work. In time, she decided to create a team of her own — Kelly Pearson Realty Group — with Lynda Roundtree in September 2019. One of the biggest sources of fulfillment in Kelly’s career today is her work with her team, including Director of Operations Shelly Vollmar; Contract-to-Close Coordinator Joseph Ortaliz; Buyer’s Agent Lynda Roundtree; Buyer’s Agent Cricket Sanchez; Client Concierge Jack Pearson; Marketing and Media Manager Madison Price; and Inbound Sales Caller Kaye Lopez. Signs of Success

Together, Kelly and her team have achieved impressive results in a short time. In fact, in 2021, they recorded $72 million in sales volume representing 74 units. Wonderful Life

Away from work, Kelly treasures time with her family. She and Rick look forward to time spent with their two

sons — 24-year-old Derrick and 20-year-old Jacob. In their free time, they like to stay very active. They joined Stonebridge Ranch Country Club. Together, they like to play golf and competitive tennis. She also has a passion for cooking. When it comes to giving back, Kelly donates $100 from each transaction to Exponential Power of Women. Over the past two years, the team has donated nearly $15,000 to the organization. In addition, Kelly likes to support local schools. When you talk with Kelly, it’s easy to see the qualities that make her a leader in the industry. 30 • June 2022

Those who work with her appreciate her driven, detail-oriented nature. As she says, the lessons she learned early on in life have served her very well throughout her career. “I’m an only child, and I had to learn to fend for myself,” Kelly says. “I had cousins and friends around me, but I was also brought up to not be co-dependent on someone … to take charge of your life.” Clearly, Kelly has a strong passion for what she does each day to support her clients and help them reach their real estate dreams. In the process, she sets an impressive example for others to follow … and she does it by leading with excellence. @realproducers

born to lead Written by: Dave Danielson Photos by: URSPECIAL

GIVING HIS ALL In today’s society, when some people see those who are successful, they see only the accolades and signs of success that they receive. But, of course, those moments of achievement happened as the result of tireless, behindthe-scenes effort and a willingness to help those around them. That’s the spirit of leadership that Edward Slater put out into the world. As a REALTOR® with Compass Real Estate, Edward gives his all for his clients and others in the business. “I love the client interaction and the relationship-building process … it means a lot to me to be able to teach and mentor new agents in the business,” Edward says.

“I had a really good mentor, Mark Cain, who is also with Compass. When I started, he got me going on some good footing. I still requote him or pass on the lessons I learned from him.”

1907. We ran that until we sold it in the late 1990s. Our identity was so well tied into that business,” Edward remembers. “After we sold the business, I started a commercial sign manufacturing company … DFW Realty Signs, which was a great business.”

Edward was born in Dallas and went through Highland Park School System. For three years, he attended boarding school at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. When he moved back to Texas, he attended SMU. Growing up, Edward had gained a world of valuable lessons in business and entrepreneurship from his family as he was growing up in Dallas. “My family started Fishburns Cleaning and Laundry Company in

In 1991, Edward’s wife, Courtney, got her license and sold real estate part-time. As she changed full-time roles from one title company to another, she discovered she wouldn’t be able to continue her part-time real estate efforts. At that point, Edward got his license and started his own parttime real estate efforts.

Recently, Courtney left her 21-year role in the title side of the industry to join Edward full-time. Edward enjoys having the opportunity to share the same path in life and business with her. “It’s interesting. It’s all new. She has been in the business on the title side. She was in business development on the title side, and her family has been in the real estate business. Her father was in commercial real estate, and her mother, Betty Crawford, was a REALTOR® for over 40 years,” Edward says. “She has been doing all my social media and marketing for me. My wheelhouse is operations and execution … that’s where my day-to-day comes in. We figured out which lanes work the best for both of us. It’s great teaming up with her in this way.”

One of his favorite groups to support is Carry the Load. “I’ve been involved with them for ten years now. Their core mission is to support police, firefighters, first responders, military service members, veterans, and their families,” Edward says.

“We raise money to help the people who come back from serving our country who are having a difficult time transitioning back into civilian life.” Congratulations to Edward Slater for the impact he makes each day on an individual basis. Whether he is helping a client navigate the turbulent waters of a real estate transaction, guiding a new member of the business to establish themselves, or supporting his community, Edward gives his all to lift others up. @realproducers

40 • June 2022

Starting in 2021, Real Producers started doing mini-magazine release parties! In attendance for these events, we will have those real estate agents and businesses featured in that issue, along with a few non-featured advertising partners.

Congratulations again to Marti Voorheis, Aaron Shockey, Mary Poss, Mohammed Jaber, The Junkluggers of Greater Dallas, Kelly Snodgrass, Trenton Johnson, Marmie Leach, Marjan Wolford, and FCS Foundation and Concrete Repair Services.

Last month’s party, like all of our parties, was an absolute blast! At this event, we showcased the April 2022 and May 2022 issues. These events are such a fun way to debut the magazine and connect with a smaller group of incredible people.

Our team feels very grateful to have had the chance to share your stories and celebrate with you. We look forward to continuing these smaller celebrations in the months and years ahead! @realproducers

KYLE W I N N I N G S T R AT E G Y Written by: Dave Danielson • Photos by: URSPECIAL

When you work with your clients to help them move from the beginning of the process to the closing table, you build a road map — a direction for them to follow to get there successfully. That’s one of the areas where Kyle Rovinsky excels. As a real estate advisor with Dave Perry Miller Real Estate, he is also a real estate blackbelt for the people he works with … providing them with a winning strategy to meet their goals. “I love helping my clients achieve their real estate goals. It could be a seller who might have a difficult situation with the profile of their house, and I can go in and help them with a strategy to help them meet their personal needs,” Kyle explains. “Or it could be a buyer who is overwhelmed in this accelerated market that we have, and I am able to provide them with some comfort and guidance. It’s the relationships with people that are important … providing them with comfort and relief.” 44 • June 2022

PRODUCING RESULTS

As Kyle came of age and completed college, he worked for ten years as a Sports Producer with KDFW, coordinating the day-to-day operations of the sports department.

realproducersmag.com

Through that experience, he unknowingly had started carrying out some of the connecting functions of a REALTOR®. “I have always lived in Dallas and know the city well,” he says.

“So when our human resources department at the station would hire people, they would have them come talk with me about various neighborhoods in the city.”

HITTING HIS STRIDE

Kyle steadily gained momentum, picked up additional clients, and built the thriving business he has today.

A REWARDING LIFE

Away from work, Kyle cherishes time with his wife, Karen, and their 13-year-old triplets — Hiram, Leo, and Meyer.

Doing things the right way consistently through time pays dividends.

In his free time, Kyle enjoys watching sports events with his family, along with camping, fishing, and horseback riding. Eventually, Kyle felt that it was time to look at next steps in life. So in 2004, he earned his real estate license and began his journey.

8 a.m. I would go park at one of the foreclosures and stand by the property, and inevitably there were people who would show up who didn’t have a client. I picked up quite a few clients early on doing that.”

DEDICATED DRIVE

One phrase that Kyle uses in his communications with clients and others in the industry is, “Trust. Knowledge. Hard Work. Results.” It’s a phrase that those who know him see in his day-to-day actions on behalf of others.

Along the way, he has been a perennial local leader, including qualifying as a Platinum Producer every year since the designation was created in 2011.

REACHING A CROSSROADS

teaches children and adults to stand up against hate, bigotry, and racism.

When it comes to giving back to the community, Kyle serves on the Board of Directors for the Anti-Defamation League, a group that

As Kyle says, “If you do the right things, plant the seeds and water them, you can have faith that, in a few months, you will be picking corn.” That’s the kind of dedication and winning strategy that Kyle puts to work for those around him.

“The transition into the business was very challenging. I have a friend who I’ve known since I was seven years old. I told him about getting my license at the time. He said his new wife and he were getting ready to look for a house. It was very nice that they waited for me to get my license and work with me,” he recalls. “So I had one client in tow and then just worked hard. I looked at MLS every day, and I had an auto search for when REO foreclosures hit the market. On Day One at 46 • June 2022

I’M “COVERED” BY...

PRICELESS PEACE OF MIND As the value of homes continues to rise, so does the costs of repairing or replacing key systems on the property when they fail.

“That is a very fulfilling feeling for me … knowing that if their major appliances, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC goes kaput, we can help them.”

Now, more than ever, the value of having a home warranty in place can’t be overstated.

TRUE COMMITMENT

When you talk with Irma, it’s easy to see that she has a real commitment for what she does and a strong appreciation for the people she has a chance to work with.

VALUABLE AND INDISPENSABLE

That’s where Acclaimed Home Warranty enters the picture with a valuable and indispensable set of protection options for your clients.

“Being part of the real estate process is so exciting for me,” she says. “After the buyer’s offer has been approved, I work with them and help them choose a home warranty plan that meets their new home’s specific needs.”

Irma Delgado with Acclaimed Home Warranty feels a deep sense of pride in delivering priceless peace of mind to homeowners across the region.

MAKING A VITAL DIFFERENCE

“It means a lot to me to be able to work with my real estate partners and to be able to give their clients that important peace of mind,” Irma emphasizes.

In the event that a covered system experiences an issue, those who are protected by a plan through Acclaimed Home Warranty experience the kind of service that can make all the difference. @realproducers

This gives me an opportunity to meet my partners and educate them about our process and our coverages.

“Obviously, living in Texas, none of us ever want our air conditioning to break down in the middle of summer,” she says. “That is considered to be an emergency, and we work to get our contractors out to address the situation as soon as possible.” BUILDING STRONG BONDS

When it comes to giving back, Irma likes teaming up with her real estate partners and escrow officers to sponsor a variety of charity events, team breakfasts, and luncheons. “This gives me an opportunity to meet my partners and educate them about our process and our coverages. Being of service to others is the best part of my job,” Irma explains. “Although I have been in the home warranty industry for a bit shy of a year, I am not new to learning the needs of my clients and being of service and helping them meet their needs.” Away from work, Irma has a wide range of interests that she enjoys. Some of her favorite activities include hanging out with friends, attending church in Lakewood St. Thomas, as well as yoga and Pilates.

Being of service to others is the best part of my job.

DEPTH OF EXPERIENCE

Irma’s background and depth of experience continues to help her successfully serve the needs of her partners and clients each day. “In the last 25 years, I have been in advertising for print, digital, and TV, as well as in major newspapers, Belo Corp, Media General, McClatchy, and an NBC affiliate. Having worked in media has prepared me to understand the needs of my clients,” she explains. “Despite the fact that I mostly dealt with business-to-business clients and I now work with homeowners, REALTORS®, and title companies, it is always about learning the needs of the clients and then doing our best to make sure we are fulfilling those objectives.” When you’re looking for a partner who will be there when it’s needed most to provide your clients with real value and priceless peace of mind, look to Irma Delgado and Acclaimed Home Warranty.

FAQ ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE Real Producers magazine started in Indianapolis in 2015 and is now in over 100 markets across the nation and continues to spread rapidly. Real Producers first launched in DFW in August 2018 with North DFW Real Producers (now called “North Dallas”). In May 2019, Dallas Real Producers launched, and then Tarrant Real Producers in March of 2021. In 2022, Tarrant Real Producers split into two publications, North Fort Worth and Fort Worth Real Producers. Fort Worth Real Producers will go to print later this year. Q: WHO RECEIVES Real Producers MAGAZINES? A: The top 500 real estate agents in each

of the four markets in DFW based on their MLS production for the previous year. Refer to the map in this publication for the exact territories. If your broker address is within that given territory and you are in the top 500, you will receive that publication for the year. There are approximately 60,000 licensed real estate agents in DFW. The list will reset at the end of every year and continue to update annually. Q: WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS MAGAZINE? A: We believe that we are better together.

When we surround ourselves with other successful, like-minded people, we grow to new heights. Real Producers is a platform that brings together the most elite individuals in DFW real estate. We take the top 500 real estate agents and RP vetted businesses in every market, and we build an exclusive community around that group. We share their stories,

50 • June 2022

successes, market trends, upcoming events — really, anything that will connect, inform and inspire, we put in our monthly publication. Q: DOES Real Producers HAVE EVENTS? A: Yes! Each community will have two

main events a year, and then we do a combined event at the end of the year, which is an awards gala called The ESPEs. For these events, we invite the top 500 real estate agents and our RP vetted businesses. Top 500 agents are allowed to invite members on their team as well. These events are an incredible opportunity to connect with the best of the best in DFW real estate. It is amazing to see the power in the connections made at these events. Be on the lookout for your exclusive invites! Q: WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR BEING FEATURED IN THIS MAGAZINE? A: It’s really simple. You have to be on

the top 500 list, and we take nominations seriously. You can nominate other real estate agents, businesses, brokers, owners, or even yourself! Office leaders can also nominate real estate agents. We will consider anyone brought to our attention who is in the top 500 because we don’t know everyone’s story, so we need your help to learn about them. We cannot guarantee a feature, but we encourage you to meet with one of our team members, support Real Producers, and attend our private events to increase your chances.

You can email your nominations to jordan.espeseth@ realproducersmag.com. Q: WHAT DOES IT COST A REAL ESTATE AGENT/TEAM TO BE FEATURED? A: Zero, zilch, zippo, nada, nil.

It costs nothing, my friends, so nominate away! We are not a pay-toplay model. We share real stories of Real Producers. Q: WHO ARE THE RP VETTED BUSINESSES? A: They are one of the best busi-

nesses in DFW in their category, and you can find them listed in our index! We don’t just find these businesses off the street, nor do we work with all businesses that approach us. One of many of the top real estate agents has recommended every single business you see in this publication. We won’t even meet with a business that has not been vetted by one of you and “stamped for approval,” in a sense. Our team will further vet every business to make sure they are a good fit and bring value to our community. Our goal is to create a powerhouse network, not only for the best real estate agents in the area but the best businesses, as well, so we can grow stronger together. Q: HOW CAN I RECOMMEND A BUSINESS? A: If you know and want to recom-

mend a business that works with top real estate agents, please email us to let us know at jordan.espeseth@ realproducersmag.com.
