One of those who has created a

longstanding tradition of excellence on that premise is Judy Sessions.

Early Steps

Judy grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, where she attended high school and started dating her future husband, Charles.

“I’ve been in business so long, I have various people to recommend to get homes ready for going on the market. I’m there all the way from start to finish.”

As she came of age, she attended SMU, earned her degree in education, and started teaching.

Along the way, she has received many referrals.

“Charles and I got married while he was in medical school,” Judy says. “Then we were away for five years with the Air Force while we were stationed at Lackland and Sheppard Air Force bases.”

“It feels good to work with repeat clients. We sometimes end up working with three or four generations within a family. It’s a pretty amazing moment when you’re walking through a house, and I realize that I sold the same house 35 years earlier,” she smiles.

After that, Judy and Charles moved back to Dallas.

In the meantime, the couple had started their own family.

Judy gives thanks and credit to those who have supported her along the way, including the iconic Briggs Freeman team.

“I stayed home and raised my children, and when the last one went off to first grade, I decided to get my real estate license,” Judy remembers. “I got into the business and have enjoyed it through over 40 years in the industry.”

“It’s grown a lot since I first joined it. It has grown tremendously,” she says. “It’s been interesting to watch it all happen. Adding the Sotheby’s component has also added an international atmosphere to what we do for people.”

Teaching and Helping

Family Foundation

Judy always had a love for teaching and helping others. She brought that spirit with her when she became a REALTOR®, and it has continued to grow through time.

Away from work, Judy treasures time with Charles and their family.

“One of my favorite things is working with firsttime homebuyers,” she says. “I think it comes back to the education part of it … explaining areas of the city to them and helping them find what’s right for them, no matter what price point they’re at. I’ve found that you get rewards from every sale, every listing, and every transaction. For me, it’s about getting the deal done, and making people happy and getting them what they want.”

Judy’s reputation for results starts with her caring and thorough approach.

“I work very hard with people getting their homes ready to go on the market; since,” Judy explains.

There’s her oldest son, Scott, who is an attorney, and his wife, Ellen, who is also an attorney.

Their son, Craig, is also licensed in real estate and works with Judy at Briggs Freeman. And their daughter, Claire, is married to Brock, who is an attorney. Like Craig, Claire is also a licensed agent with Briggs Freeman.

“It’s wonderful working with Craig and Claire here at Briggs Freeman. They’re always available to help,” she smiles. “And I think it means something extra special to me knowing that they grew up hearing me talk about real estate all of the time, and they don’t want to run away from it. They’re here doing it with me. It’s so nice to have family for support when you need it.”

Charles is a retired doctor. In their free time, Judy and Charles love walks through their neighborhood, and look forward to watching their grandchildren take part in a wide range of school activities and sports.

As she says, “Our grandchildren are very sports inclined … baseball and football games. We could go to a ballgame several nights a week.”

Judy also has a heart for giving back to the community. Through time, she’s been involved with the Dallas Medical Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Spirit of Growth

As Judy continues her tradition of helping those around her, she does so with a spirit of growth and an all-in spirit.

“I’ve always tried to do my very best at whatever I do. To me, success in a real estate situation is making sure that the client is happy and satisfied when it’s over … giving clients a fair transaction,” she says. “Many times, people will call years after the deal and ask for my advice. It’s about more than selling a house and then it’s done. Clients become your friends. You can help them in many ways down the line.”

Each day, Judy Sessions makes a difference by delivering her personal brand of service — her individual impact.

“What I do is very addictive for me,” Judy emphasizes with a warm smile. “I have a great energy level and enjoy it. I’m really enjoying the ride and the relationships I get to build through time.”

As a REALTOR® at Meyer Group Real Estate, Melanie continues to build success for those around her, and she does it with her reliable recipe for results.

Finding Her Path in the Profession Melanie’s story began years earlier in Louisiana.

“I was hired by an international jewelry company right out of college. I recall the day Lehman Brothers laid off thousands of workers in the fall of 2018,” she says. “That day burns in my head because they were one of our larger corporate clients.

I always had this sense that I could get fired at any moment, so I worked my butt off to make sure that did not happen.”

“I was born and raised in New Orleans, graduated from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, and then moved to Manhattan where I lived for five years,” she recalls. “It was in New York where I met the man who would drag me back down south, Adam Till.”

When the couple relocated to Dallas, she was able to maintain her position, but travel picked up significantly. It was then that she realized she had to make a move. Melanie’s mother, who had her real estate license in New Orleans, always encouraged her to get her license, even if it was just for fun. As Melanie says, “I figured, why not? I had been saving for a while so I took another leap of faith!”

When Adam’s job got relocated to Dallas, Melanie, who had recently purchased a condo in Manhattan, decided to take a leap of faith. She packed her bags, formulated a plan with her current company to work remotely, found a tenant, and followed the man who would soon become her husband.

Melanie met with Dave Perry-Miller and knew the fit was perfect. That was 2013.

“In the summer of 2014, after I had been in the business for about six months, I had the opportunity to team up with Nadine Meyer,” she recalls. “Nadine and I couldn’t be more different when it comes to how we operate. I come from a corporate back-

ground – meetings, Excel, charts, lists, Google – Nadine flies by the seat of her pants, but it worked, and it still works now. We really complement each other, and I’ve learned so much from her.”

Dedication to Develop From the beginning, Melanie dove in and dedicated herself to learning and growth.

“I see every deal and every opportunity as a learning experience. I used to email the entire office weekly to see who needed help with anything,” she says. “When I started teaming with Nadine, it was mainly on open houses at a large project she had in Oak Lawn. I took my basic knowledge of software and created some marketing materials for her, and we progressed from there. In whatever I do, I try to go above and beyond. I get excited about things. I like to create tools to make things easier – I did that at my old job and I still do it today.”

mother on my father’s side used to cook ‘supper’ for all 24+ grandkids every Sunday growing up.”

“My children keep me grounded,” she says. “Penny loves to help out in the kitchen, especially making homemade pasta and pancakes on weekends.

Oliver is my wild child. He is a little daredevil but also wears his heart on his sleeve. You will always find us walking around the neighborhood whether it is to school, Trader Joe’s in Lowest Greenville, or The Heights for breakfast.”

Melanie’s clients see that quality firsthand.

As Melanie explains, “I never saw myself as a teacher, I am not the most patient person, but I do find that I jump into that role almost daily. I find myself using open houses as mini classrooms.

I meet first-time home buyers weekly and most of them don’t know anything about the home buying process.”

At the end of 2016, Nadine decided to break away from DPM and start her own brokerage. “I owe my career to Nadine, so of course, I went along with her!”

Rewarding Life That approach has made a difference for those around her, and it has generated a lot of tangible results.

By the end of July 2020, Melanie’s sales (including those in escrow) have reached over $9.5 million, and she has closed over $57.8 million in her career.

Away from work, Melanie’s world is centered around her family, including her husband, Adam, and their two children, 5-year-old Penelope and 3-year-old Oliver.

She also enjoys giving back, with one of her favorites being the Pre-Geneva Heights Association in East Dallas.

“Last year, I started helping out with fundraising, which I really enjoyed.

I guess I did a good job because they asked for me to stay on and chair the auction in 2022 – hint, hint to those who would like to sponsor!”

Melanie’s approach reflects her deep sense of purpose in helping those around her.

In her free time, Melanie has a passion for cooking, working out, and photography.

“I always tell people I work with that I’m going to give you a lot of information, so don’t be afraid to ask me the same question five times over,” she says. “I want to make people feel comfortable and to know that I am always here to help. After all, this process can be pretty stressful, and sometimes deals don’t go as smoothly as one would like.”

“I was born and raised in a family that cooks a lot on both sides,” she says. “My mom’s family owned Antoine’s in New Orleans, one of the oldest family-run restaurants in the nation. And my grand-

With the recent pandemic, distance learning for Carter has been added to her priorities. “My sons’ education is very important, like all parents we are trying to do the best that we can this year.”

What is the primary purpose of Real Producers?

Our primary mission is to unite the REALTORS® in the local community by helping you connect with other top-producing agents on a deeper level. We accomplish this through our monthly publication and our quarterly parties and events.

Who is the magazine distributed to?

Only the top 500 Producing REALTORS® south of 635 will be receiving our monthly publication. The top 500 varies each year based on MLS production, so there are no guarantees you make the top 500 next year. Keep working hard!

Where do we get the top 500 from?

The top 500 comes directly from real MLS data. The Dallas Real Producers community includes the top 500 REALTORS® south of 635 in Dallas county, along with Rockwall, Irving, Grand Prairie, Mesquite, Duncanville, Waxahachie, etc. realproducersmag.com

We also have a North DFW Real Producers community and magazine for the top 500 REALTORS® north of 635. You are welcome to come to their parties and events as well (as long as you promise to be fun).

How will you be receiving the magazine every month?

We will be shipping your copy of the magazine to your office with your name on the back, so keep your eyes open for it every month! We will send out a monthly email with the digital version of it as well. *If you would like it shipped to your house instead of the office, please email Brett@DallasRP.com with your home address.

Is there a cost to me, the REALTOR®?

Ask yourself how badly you want your venture to succeed. After all, they don’t call it a hustle for nothing! Expect to work hard, put in the hours, and hang in for the long haul, making sacrifices, sometimes painful ones, along the way. Don’t expect success overnight.

Sneaker resale. Uber driving. Designer clothing consignment.

Selling handmade jewelry on Etsy. Freelance writing. What do these things have in common? These are all examples of side gigs friends and acquaintances, who also have stable day jobs, work to fulfill their creative sides, delve deeper into their interests … and, of course, bring in extra money. Heralded by Forbes as the “new must-have career accessory,” the side job has become extremely popular, with tens of millions of Americans eagerly clocking back in after regular work hours. Best of all, the options are virtually limitless; we are living in an unprecedented time for entrepreneurial innovation. If you have passion for something, there’s likely a side hustle for it. Successful hustlers make it all work by following a few key rules: Focus on your full-time job.

We love our side hustles because they are so much fun. It’s easy to get distracted by them during regular work hours, but a side hustle, no matter how tempting, is never worth sacrificing your full-time income. When starting up a side business, your goal is to be excellent at both your full-time job and your side hustle. Before taking on a new venture, be sure your performance at work is already stellar.

Set “work hours” and stick to them.
