publisher’s note

Fort Worth Real Producers

HAS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED! You heard it right! The fourth and final Real Producers territory here in DFW has officially launched this month! Myself and my team could not be more excited! We have been working hard to make this August launch possible. For those of you receiving the Fort Worth publication, this may be the first time you are hearing about what we are doing here at Real Producers. First off, there is a DFW Real Producers map, as well as FAQ page, in this publication; be sure to check those out for more clarification and details. Secondly, I want to congratulate you for being a Top 500 Producing Real Estate Agent in the Fort Worth Territory! That is out of roughly 15,000 licensed agents. Amazing! In all of DFW, there are 60,000 licensed real estate agents, and we have four RP territories that make up the entire market: North Dallas, Dallas, North Fort Worth and now Fort Worth Real Producers. Each territory has its own publication and own events. Collectively, we now refer to all four as DFW Real Producers.

realproducersmag.com

North Dallas (formerly named North DFW Real Producers) was the first one to launch exactly four years ago in August of 2018. Our platform and team have transformed and grown considerably from the initial inception of the brand. We have added new articles, events, systems, and team members.

One thing that has and will always stay the same is that we are an exclusive community around the highest producing real estate agents and most highly recommended businesses in the market. We believe that who you continually surround yourself with greatly impacts who you become and where you will go in life. We believe that a rising tide lifts all boats, iron sharpens iron, greatness breeds greatness, and we know that Real Producers is the most elite real estate community in DFW. Our team is continually meeting with our Top 500 Producing Agents, and if we haven’t connected with you yet, it may happen soon. Feel free to reach out to us, as we would love to get you more integrated into our community. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you more and more in the months and years ahead. It is our privilege to serve this community. See you soon! Cheers, JORDAN ESPESETH Owner jordan.espeseth@realproducersmag.com Dallas Real Producers • 13

Delivering on the Dream At the heart of each deal is the set of hopes and aspirations that your clients have. Thanks to you, they are able to reach the next point in their life stories.

Brian Micalizzi is honored to carry out that role. As the founder and broker of the boutique brokerage Micalizzi Real Estate, Brian has a passion for delivering on the dream. “I really enjoy getting to know people and determining how best to help them achieve their goals, whether buying or selling,” Brian says. “I strive to deliver on that the best way that I can.” Moving South Brian grew up in New Hampshire and went to the University of Rhode Island for pharmacy school. After his collegiate career was complete, he moved to Dallas. As he recalls, “It made sense to move here … to a place with a better cost of living, a good job market, and no more New England winters!” Finding His Path in the Profession Over time, Brian worked as a pharmacist, serving his community by working in the emergency department at Children’s Health. In the meantime, he was exposed to books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad, which set him on a path of real estate investing. That journey began by purchasing his first duplex in 2005. “I knew I was going to purchase more properties, and so I got my real estate license in 2007 while still working full time as a pharmacist,” Brian says.

realproducersmag.com

“By 2014, I was essentially working two full-time jobs, so I went part-time as a pharmacist. Then I opened the brokerage in 2016 and have since retired from pharmacy.” Fast Start It didn’t take long for Brian to know that he made the right choice in moving into real estate. He built his business and has kept going skyward. In fact, he averages over 40 deals per year, representing between $20 and $25 million in sales volume. Brian relishes his role as broker, mentoring and supporting the success of those in his firm. He has four agents who work with him, with each person handling their own book of business. Life’s Highlights Life is made much richer for Brian by his family, including his girlfriend, Mona Kasik. “She is a big part of my life, and she handles the back end of the business,” Brian says. “She helps a lot with our short-term rentals, as well.” In their free time, Brian and Mona enjoy traveling, including visiting their vacation rentals in Florida. They also like to ride their road bikes. When it comes to community involvement, Brian and Mona enjoy supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“I take my obligation to my clients seriously when it comes to buying or selling their homes. For a lot of them, this is the biggest emotional and financial investment in their life,” he says. “I want to provide the best service for them possible.” Every rewarding action in life starts with hope. Brian Micalizzi delivers on those dreams every day.

Giving Back As he thinks about his own achievements in the business, Brian also offers helpful advice for others who are looking to take their own next steps forward in real estate. “I think that one of the most important things you can do when you’re starting out in real estate is to find a good mentor … someone who is successful in the business,” Brian emphasizes. “When you do that, you can save years of trying to learn the ropes on your own.” Making an Impact It’s clear when you talk with Brian that he has a heartfelt drive to make an impact through his work.

ONLY CONNECT Maybe it was no mistake that morning the mylar balloon drifted into Lance Dunahoe’s yard. Sent aloft with notes for a daddy taken too soon from a small grieving family, the balloon didn’t quite make it to its heavenly destination, but instead, gently came to rest on the grass, catching the eye of Dunahoe as he left for work.

“

My favorite thing is being immersed in conversations with people I care about, hearing their stories of life and business ambition. To spend my days building relationships and trust so that people in our industry and community can share their stories in this big conversation.

“

realproducersmag.com

What happened next is a perfect example of Dunahoe’s defining gift. He was compelled to connect with the family who had launched the balloon — to let them know their messages were received (by him at least). He located them and learned they had some pressing needs. So, he quickly connected them with people in the community who wanted to help. Money was donated, services were located, and the family got a little bit of the support they deserved.

To view the balloon article and video, go to ABCnews.go.com and search for Lance Dunahoe

Dunahoe is often the binding force in situations. It’s a natural position that he slips into with great ease and confidence. He knows a lot of us — knows us well — and when he connects us, good things happen. Lucky for us, he dwells with the top business achievers of our community, so he has a lot of beneficial opportunities to practice his craft. He might have brought together many of you, in fact, as you connected neighbors with homes. Sure, Dunahoe likes to give referrals, yet his defining gift is his ability to unite us. The fabric of our community is stronger because people like Dunahoe increase our thread count, through powerful connections. If he sounds like a minister, it’s because he’s the son of one. There are many ways to bind a community and Dunahoe uses them all. He loves to refer business, introduce people for like-minded or strategic reasons, and of course, he throws great parties. He stays attentive for things he can be of service about for your success. He knows what you do well and will use that information when he bumps into

someone who needs you. He’s like an ambassador-at-large, working for the values we share and the success of the businesses that fuel this community. Dunahoe’s power of cohesion has helped him succeed as the Real Producers co-publisher, and as founder of the highly trusted INSPECT360 home-inspection business. He doesn’t operate alone, of course; he needs us to make this work. He relies on us, his partner Jordan Espeseth, and his INSPECT360 “dream team.” Most importantly, he needs his amazing wife Danielle and their two strong boys, Gavin and Landon — young, watchful men growing up exposed to the power of parents and a community that cares. Young men that are diverse and full of heart and curiosity, like their parents. The Dunahoes met as flight attendants traveling the world, connecting while on connecting flights. They loved not just travel but the stories of the travelers they encountered. They even learned Japanese together so that they could enjoy weekly overseas flights to Japan. They were also drawn together by their love of music and still catch as many concerts as they can. And they enjoy their rich friendships, weekends with friends, and staying in the conversation with their boys. “One of my favorite books is ‘Fierce Conversations’ by Susan Scott,” says Dunahoe. “It has taught me that the conversation IS the relationship. My favorite thing is being immersed in conversations with people I care about — hearing their stories of life and business ambition. To spend my days building relationships and trust so that people in our industry and community can share their stories in this big conversation, well, it’s quite an honor and a privilege.” Connection and gratitude are interesting things and sometimes they pull a big switcheroo on us. For instance, there was a tough time when the Dunahoe family needed help, and connections showed up. “I broke my ankle pretty badly… had to have surgeries and rehab, and it was hard for me to get around and do things,” Dunahoe says. “I was getting frustrated with my health.” His community

20 • August 2022

learned that he needed help, and, more importantly, he learned that he had to accept their help. “Being forced to slow down and lean on others proved to be a reckoning for me. I realized that I get to work in a community that I love and with people every day that I truly admire. From that moment, it was natural for me to co-found Real Producers and grow these relationships — relationships that helped me heal physically and mentally. They’re everything.” As Dunahoe says, “I believe we all have the opportunity, every day, to be the answer to somebody’s prayer.”

You have been there … you’ve seen the results of your work come out through the expressions of joy on the faces of your clients. In those times, you experience a special sense of fulfillment, knowing that you have played a part in helping them reach the next stage in their lives. That’s a feeling that drives Melissa Oates, as well. As a REALTOR® with Allie Beth Allman & Associates in the Park Cities, Melissa treasures having the opportunity to help make those moments come true for her ranch and residential clients.

I R E A L LY E N J OY SHOWING PROPERTIES TO PEOPLE AND I LOVE WHEN I CAN SEE IT IN THEIR EYES, THAT WE FOUND THE ONE FOR THEM “It’s rewarding to meet my clients and discover what they want. I really enjoy showing properties to people and I love when I can see it in their eyes, that we found the one for them,” she says with a smile. “It’s the best feeling.” Digging In In the process, Melissa likes to dig in and make good things happen for those she serves. “I just like helping people sell their current home or find the perfect new one. That part takes research and legwork,” she says. “But it pays off.” “Research is a big part of residential real estate sales, but at its heart, it’s an emotional industry. A big part of what we do as real estate agents, is to take the stress out of the process for both buyers and sellers. Many of my clients are friends or friends of friends, or they become friends at the end of the process. I take pride in making sure we achieve their goals and that they’re happy at the end of the day.” Early Positive Influences Throughout her life, Melissa had glimpses of her future real estate career.

realproducersmag.com

“My dad and grandma have their broker’s licenses, and my dad is a builder,” Melissa explains. “My grandma sold ranches in East Texas. As I got my start, I worked for my dad for a few years in residential new construction.” She also worked in interior design for a time, having earned her design and art history degree in college. Prior to getting into real estate, she worked in design and the renovation side of the business. Melissa earned her real estate license in 2009. After that, she joined the team at Allie Beth Allman & Associates.Melissa has since built a remarkable story of success that she continues to build on year after year. Wonderful Life Away from work, life is made much richer for Melissa by her family. “The people who had an impact on me included my grandmother, Sue Oates, as well as my mom and dad (Debbie and Nickey Oates). My mom did a lot of interior design work and worked with clients on their selections for new construction,” Melissa says. In her free time, Melissa loves spending time at the horse stable she owns in Wylie with her fiance, Jordan. As she says about the equestrian sports, “I have a lot of friends in the horse showing and jumper world. I like being involved with horses. It’s something I’ve done since I was a little kid, and I love everything about it.” Melissa also has a passion for biking, hiking and being outdoors. Plus, she has a German Pointer dog named Henry that she enjoys exploring area trails with. When it comes to giving back, Melissa has a heart for helping, too. Some of her favorite organizations that she likes to support include groups like SPCA, Genesis Women’s Center, Equest, Maingate and the

Retired Racehorse Project. In addition, Melissa is part of the Dallas Junior Garden Club, a group that raises funds to give back to the community.” Lifting Others As Melissa reflects on her rewarding career, she offers advice for others who are looking to take their own steps forward in the industry. “Persistence is key in this business. It’s not about your deal from last month. It’s about the one coming up next week. Keep after it and be persistent and don’t give up. If you connect with a good mentor and work at a good brokerage, you’ve already put the pieces in the right place, so just don’t give up,” she emphasizes. “There will be more people who say no to you than yes in real estate, but you’ll find success when you stick with it. Follow up and keep the right attitude to attract the right clients even when deals fall through. Remember that you’re going to get through this and that tomorrow is a new day.”

26 • August 2022

When you talk with Melissa, you see the qualities that have drawn people to work with her through time. She clearly has a passion for real estate, and she pours herself into her clients’ needs. “I’m very much a full-service REALTOR®. I try to go above and beyond for my clients. I treat the deal like I want the best outcome for them with the most successful, smoothest transaction. Their happiness is really what it’s all about,” Melissa says. “I pride myself on providing a full-service, white glove experience. I want my clients to relax and sit back, knowingwe will get the best possible outcome for them. I love seeing my clients enjoy their new homes, and it’s the best feeling when clients call me a month later to say the house is even better than we hoped. Those kinds of calls are worth their weight in gold.” Congratulations to Melissa Oates. She proves that passion, perseverance, and personalized approcahes make all the difference when it comes to real estate.

BRITT LOPEZ GENUINE GUIDANCE

the chills when they see the house that they know is the one for them.”

Success is often demonstrated as a display of skill, talent, and sincerity.

It’s a type of energy you quickly feel when you talk with Britt Lopez. Reaching Goals

As a REALTOR® with Paragon REALTORS®, Britt shares her experienced guidance with her clients as she helps them reach their goals. Buying, selling, and occasionally counseling people through the labyrinth of the Dallas market is more than transactional for her; it feeds her soul.

Gaining Ground

Britt graduated from college in 1988. As she looked to start her post-collegiate career, she got married and moved to Orlando, FL, where she worked in destination management. “I quickly learned the city and how to take a big picture idea and break it down into minute detail to make things happen within budget and on time,” she remembers. “I moved into sales while I was in Orlando. That helped me hone my skills working with people around the country.” Moving Forward

“I’ve been doing this for 20 years, but I still love working with first-time homebuyers or first-time sellers,” Britt says.

In time, Britt and her husband moved back to Texas. They purchased a house and learned how to do a lot of the needed work in their home themselves, including refinishing the hardwood floors.

“My personality is I am a very calm person. I have a very nurturing mothering instinct, and I view those new clients almost as my kids. I like taking them through from beginning to closing. As part of that, the joy you get with buyers is exciting. I get

“The home was built in the 1930s,” she recalls. “My love of old houses started there. Right after purchasing the home, I was still going to open houses. My husband would kid me and say we just bought a house. I was still working in event management and

destination management here in Dallas.” Opening a New Door

Their REALTOR® at the time kept telling Britt that she should be a REALTOR® over the course of several years. When Britt thought about going back to work, the encouragement had worked. She was licensed in March 2002. Signs of Success

Through time Britt has built a successful business and a solid reputation for results … averaging around $10 million in sales volume each year. Last year, in 2021, she recorded $16.5 million in sales volume in her biggest year yet. 30 • August 2022

Britt is quick to shine the spotlight on her team — the East Dallas Real Estate Group — Michelle Chism, Robyn Kurpiel, Kim Tierney, Cole Parish, and Leslie Brown. Family Highlights

Away from work, Britt’s life is made much richer by her family. She looks forward to time with her fiancé, Daniel, and her children — Dange, Caden, Malena, and Zane. In her free time, Britt has a love for reading, working in her garden, antiquing, and estate sale shopping. Additionally, she has a very creative spark.

“One of my past jobs was doing some commercial acting,” she says. In addition, Britt is a big fan of live performances and making art. She has also done some pottery, metal, glass work, and jewelry making. When it comes to giving back, Britt supports the For the Love of the Lake organization at White Rock Lake, as well as the Saving Hope Rescue animal rescue group. Leading by Example

For those who have a chance to know and work with Britt, they appreciate her kind, caring nature.

“Most of my clients have been with me through time and then on to the next generation. This is a people business,” Britt says. “It’s about helping people and walking them through this time in life.” Congratulations to Britt Lopez for bringing her talents and skills in the service of others and their goals. Genuine guidance can’t be faked. Britt fully engages in the needs of those around her and then envelopes her clients as their goals move beyond individual and move to mutual. @realproducers

Storm clouds gather in life sometimes. When the winds start to rise and life swirls around you, it can be difficult to maintain your direction ahead. One of those who exemplify the strength it takes to overcome that is Michael Brink.

love being around people. So the idea of being alone and isolated was a living [nightmare] for me,” Michael says. “I hadn’t communicated with my parents for 16 months. I had been raised with great tools, and I still went down the path of addiction … losing everything and realizing that wasn’t who I was.”

As founder and team leader of Brink Realty Group with KW Urban Dallas, Michael demonstrates that he is definitely stronger than the storms that have entered his world.

Picking Up the Pieces In 2010, Michael found recovery and quickly set on a course of rebuilding his life.

“In 2005, after moving to Dallas with a national retailer where I had a great job, I lost who I was and found myself addicted to drugs and alcohol. I went through a bad breakup and found myself, for the next five years, moving from place to place and struggling to get by,” Michael remembers.

“I’ve had an interest in real estate from an early age. At one point, my father said to me, ‘I think you would be great at real estate, but no one wants to buy from a 20-year-old,’” Michael says. “I didn’t have enough life experiences to be fully helpful at that point, so I stayed in retail for a while.”

“I lost who I was and many of the people I knew distanced themselves from me. I

In time, Michael kept thinking about a potential career in real estate.

“I finally made that decision to make the leap and do it. I quit my job as a retail manager and went back into retail sales while I started in real estate in June 2014,” Michael says. “I set the goal for myself to be able to focus on real estate and made it happen. I was able to quit my jobs except for real estate by Christmas that year.” Remarkable Results Michael experienced a skyrocketing real estate start. In fact, by 2017, he was the number one agent in his firm. In 2021, Michael’s team grew, and business reached a new high — with $32 million in sales volume. Brink Realty Group is on track to reach $40 million this year. He is quick to shine the spotlight on his team members, including Joshua Pool, Justin Bustamante, Matt Heidenfelder, and Elijah Misigaro.

Leading the Way Michael has served in a number of leadership roles, including his office’s Agent Leadership Council (ALC), where he served on the Growth Committee and chaired the Education Committee for four years. When Michael thinks about his favorite parts of real estate, he says, “While I still like helping clients, I really love helping my team and watching agents grow to understand the ins and outs of real estate… I love training and working to create better lives for those around me. If you give, you receive.” As Michael reflects on his life, he feels grateful for his recovery, and for where he is, and the fact that he has a million-dollar business today. Life’s Highlights Family is at the center of life for Michael. His father passed away recently, but he is thankful for the resources his real estate business has provided, which enabled him to move his parents to Dallas and share in supporting his family during his father’s final days. In 2017, Michael married Jeff Hickey, who joined his real estate

team for a brief time before moving into a leadership role with GO Management LLC, a leading Keller Williams brokerage group. In their free time, Michael and Jeff enjoy traveling, most recently returning from a long trip to Italy, Greece, and Turkey. They’re both big foodies and enjoy hosting dinner parties and pool parties, spending time with close friends, and loving on their two dogs: Winston and Maggie. Michael has a heart for giving back. Some of his favorite groups to support include The Resource Center in Dallas, the LGBTQ+ community, and Legacy Counseling for those in recovery. Michael Brink has a passion for what he does … providing those around him with the tools and support they need to reach their own aspirations in life. “I never consider what I do a job. My business is built on relationships,” he says. “I’m proud of my attention to detail and the ability to wow them with service.” In the process, Michael personifies the spirit of resilience and determination to succeed … showing that he is definitely stronger than the storm.

FAQ ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE Real Producers magazine started in Indianapolis in 2015 and is now in over 100 markets across the nation and continues to spread rapidly. Real Producers first launched in DFW in August 2018 with North DFW Real Producers (now called “North Dallas”). In May 2019, Dallas Real Producers launched, and then Tarrant Real Producers in March of 2021. In 2022, Tarrant Real Producers split into two publications, North Fort Worth and Fort Worth Real Producers. Fort Worth Real Producers will go to print later this year. Q: WHO RECEIVES Real Producers MAGAZINES? A: The top 500 real estate agents in each

of the four markets in DFW based on their MLS production for the previous year. Refer to the map in this publication for the exact territories. If your broker address is within that given territory and you are in the top 500, you will receive that publication for the year. There are approximately 60,000 licensed real estate agents in DFW. The list will reset at the end of every year and continue to update annually. Q: WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS MAGAZINE? A: We believe that we are better together.

When we surround ourselves with other successful, like-minded people, we grow to new heights. Real Producers is a platform that brings together the most elite individuals in DFW real estate. We take the top 500 real estate agents and RP-vetted businesses in every market, and we build an exclusive community around that group. We share their stories, 40 • August 2022

successes, market trends, upcoming events — really, anything that will connect, inform and inspire, we put in our monthly publication. Q: DOES Real Producers HAVE EVENTS? A: Yes! Each community will have two

main events a year, and then we do a combined event at the end of the year, which is an awards gala called The ESPEs. For these events, we invite the top 500 real estate agents and our RP-vetted businesses. Top 500 agents are allowed to invite members on their team as well. These events are an incredible opportunity to connect with the best of the best in DFW real estate. It is amazing to see the power in the connections made at these events. Be on the lookout for your exclusive invites! Q: WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR BEING FEATURED IN THIS MAGAZINE? A: It’s really simple. You have to be on

the top 500 list, and we take nominations seriously. You can nominate other real estate agents, businesses, brokers, owners, or even yourself! Office leaders can also nominate real estate agents. We will consider anyone brought to our attention who is in the top 500 because we don’t know everyone’s story, so we need your help to learn about them. We cannot guarantee a feature, but we encourage you to meet with one of our team members, support Real Producers, and attend our private events to increase your chances.

You can email your nominations to jordan.espeseth@ realproducersmag.com. Q: WHAT DOES IT COST A REAL ESTATE AGENT/TEAM TO BE FEATURED? A: Zero, zilch, zippo, nada, nil. It

costs nothing, my friends, so nominate away! We are not a pay-toplay model. We share real stories of Real Producers. Q: WHO ARE THE RP-VETTED BUSINESSES? A: They are one of the best busi-

nesses in DFW in their category, and you can find them listed in our index! We don’t just find these businesses off the street, nor do we work with all businesses that approach us. One of many of the top real estate agents has recommended every single business you see in this publication. We won’t even meet with a business that has not been vetted by one of you and “stamped for approval,” in a sense. Our team will further vet every business to make sure they are a good fit and bring value to our community. Our goal is to create a powerhouse network, not only for the best real estate agents in the area but the best businesses, as well, so we can grow stronger together. Q: HOW CAN I RECOMMEND A BUSINESS? A: If you know and want to recom-

mend a business that works with top real estate agents, please email us to let us know at jordan.espeseth@ realproducersmag.com. @realproducers
