The Tuttle Group A SERVANT’S HEART

Some people dream about what they aspire to be when they grow up from a very young age. For Andy Tuttle, Branch Manager at The Tuttle Group at Fairway Mortgage, being in the real estate industry wasn’t necessarily a childhood dream, but his life experiences along the way helped to carve out a unique path to his successful adulthood career.

Dabbling in Beginnings

From the small town of Princeton, to Garland, and eventually Dallas, Andy Tuttle knows the DFW area. But he also knows real estate, and he knows it well. Tuttle attributes his success in this industry to both parents: his father, a missionary, who taught him the importance of having a servant’s heart, and his mother, a realtor of over 30 years, who demonstrated the ebb and flow of being in the real estate industry. Additionally, Andy didn’t just observe what his parents were doing and walk a straight line. Tuttle has been in 100% commission sales since the age of 17, dabbling in everything from touring as a drummer in a rock band, grinding in both door-to-door and car sales, dealing cards in Las Vegas, and being a stuntman at a Six Flags theme park. At one point in his twenties, Tuttle juggled four jobs at once, truly understanding what it meant to work hard and acquire grit. Transitions

In 2001, Tuttle transitioned and joined the real estate industry. Not only did this mean leaving his band, and other part-time jobs behind, but it meant entering the market during a difficult period, just months before the economic crisis of 2008. Coin-

cidentally, Andy also met the love of his life during this time: his wife, Beth. While times were tough for them, and the real estate industry, Andy gives accolade to his victories today, and perseverance through these times, to this: “One of my main reasons for success is that I have a decent enough ability to cast a vision and get buy in to that vision. I appreciate and understand systems and what they do for you.” Tuttle goes on to relate his philosophy to a vehicle: “The systems would be the engine or the transmission—the inner-working. The vision and buy-in is the outer shell of the car. The fuel that runs it, I would think, is that I just don’t quit. I have a stick-to-it-ness of an idea, and I don’t give up until it’s done.” This vehicle drove Tuttle to where he is today. The Tuttle Group at Fairway Mortgage

The Tuttle Group at Fairway Mortgage has a teambased philosophy, with 15 total employees on the roster. Together, they’re able to carry out their goal of “delivering practical and personalized advice, competitive terms, and an unparalleled customer experience.” Andy wants his customers to know they’re family, just like his team of employees is to him. Those that interact with The Tuttle Group may

meet Jack Bishop, who helps with preliminary work, Kenneth Powell, Andy’s senior loan partner, Brooke Prim, their loan manager, Liz Meyr, executive assistant, or several others. Together, the team genuinely looks to clients first as family, emphasizing “We deliberately love on them in consistent ways.”

Andy’s definition of success is doing “good, meaningful work that makes a positive impact on those we’re meant to serve.” The Tuttle Group will be there with customers from the pre-approval process until well after closing, because as Tuttle reinforces, “We treat our clients like family and we have a track record to back it up. It’s not just lip service for us.”

Andy says The Tuttle Group recognizes buying a home is “the third most stressful thing people do next to death and divorce,” so it is important to take their time with their customers throughout this life-changing process—that’s what sets them apart. Unlike typical mortgage lenders, The Tuttle Group at Fairway Mortgage prides themselves on their pre-approval consultations, which don’t just share the current rates; they make home mortgage plans, so their customers can make the best financial decision for their families.

At the end of the day, Andy says he finds fulfillment through watching his team do meaningful work, caring about their clients and realtors, empowering them, helping them grow financially, and supporting them in unique ways, like sending the movies “The Big Short” or “Coco” to celebrate life’s milestones. He also takes pride in helping his realtors serve more families, build better teams, and run a profitable business. He loves teaching them what he has learned about business and sales fundamentals, Raving Fan service, generating referrals, and building a platform that invigorates them instead of burns them out.

The group also prides themselves on the services provided by their Pre-Approval Specialists, which get the necessary information organized and completed up-front to ensure a quick closing process. Also, being a Residential Mortgage Banker means they can lend their own money, and sell loans, so they can move fast and get their clients the best deal.

“There’s no such thing as work/life balance,” states Tuttle, highlighting how we are always operating with imbalance; our goal should be to seek integration and harmony in both our personal and professional lives. At the end of the day, “I gotta be a man of the second shift,” says Tuttle when reflecting on the importance of family. Without that, Tuttle wouldn’t be where he is today. Tuttle lives in the DFW area with his wife of nine years, Beth. Together, they have a 4-year-old son, Grayson, and a baby girl, Emerson.

Andy’s definition of success is doing “good, meaningful work that makes a positive impact on those we’re meant to serve.”

SUCCESSFUL NEW AGENT EVEN ATTRACTS CLIENTS DURING TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS When Penny Meyer saw flashing lights in her rear view mirror as she drove from an open house last summer, she quickly surmised why she was being pulled over: “Too many balloons in the car?” she asked the police officer. “No, turn signal,” he laughed. He soon realized he had pulled her over in front of one of her listings. “Wow! That’s you on the sign!” he said. Three months later, Penny sold the officer a home in McKinney. It’s been that kind of career start for the Oklahoma native, who in less than two years has already notched 35 closings, five of them in a single day. She’s already accumulating recognition, too. She was named a 2017 Top Rookie for Keller Williams, Allen; she earned a Top 20 Percent accolade and the Double Gold Medallion Award. Additionally, she serves on the Agent Leadership Council in her office.

After a 12-year teaching career in secondary science and math, plus time as an Allen School District testing coordinator, the empty-nester started working in real estate part-time, match-making buyers with homes. She instantly fell in love with the industry. “It was a perfect fit.” Although her master’s degree in educational administration positioned her for a job as a principal, she’s thankful it never happened. “I never realized this would become my dream career,” Penny says. An eight-and-a-half year career in pharmaceutical sales didn’t hurt, either. Or the small business she operated at an antique mall. “I’ve been [selling antiques] since [my sons] were young,” she says, explaining she first ran a small business on the square in McKinney and now is involved with a newer venture in Bonham. Penny discovered selling antiques provided directly relevant training for real estate. “The negotiation process that’s involved in selling antiques is honestly one of the best systems I’ve used to negotiate prices and repairs and things like that,” she says. “It’s been one of my best tools.” Her varied career also has helped her connect with clients. “That’s been one thing that’s very helpful,” Penny says. “Some of my clients have been CEOs of companies. And then I even had an exotic dancer as one of my clients. She actually saw me on realtor.com on a listing. She called me, and we met and shopped for homes. She was very grateful and appreciative of my time and efforts.”

18 • September 2018

Penny insists there’s no such thing as a frustrating transaction-- some just require “working out the issues to get them solved. It’s having to have a little more patience with some than others,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of practice-- I was a teacher.” Frustration, if any, comes with being so busy while still wanting to provide the best service to everyone. But help has arrived. Penny recently hired a licensed executive assistant to enable her to expand the practice. Penny also meets quarterly with a marketing expert who is helping her develop her brand: Nest Real Estate Group. “We’re helping you land your perfect nest,” Penny explains. “I relate to my home as my nest and want my business to help others achieve the same.” “I dedicated myself to come in and treat this as my profession, which it is,” Penny quickly adds. “And so I came in every day, almost, my first year, to take classes here and to expand my knowledge, to ask lots of questions, to really take advantage of everything that’s offered.” Penny has other passions, as well. She loves to read and spend time with family and friends. Travelling energizes her, and she tries to schedule one trip abroad each year. Thanks to an interest in photography, her own European travel portraits adorn the office walls. “Paris is always a good idea,” Penny says, laughing. Closer to home, the Meyer’s Bonham lake house has provided years of family

memories, as well as fresh herbs and flowers from the garden there. The Meyers moved to north Texas 21-years-ago from Georgia, where Penny met her husband, now a packaging engineer for Frito-Lay. They moved to be closer to family, and to Dallas, where Penny had always wanted to live. “We’ve lived in the same home for 21 years. Allen has probably tripled in population since we moved here. It’s a great city; it has grown in the right way,” she says. “It’s just a very close-knit population. We moved here when [my sons] were 6 months and 2 years old.” A typical day for Penny starts around 5:30 a.m. With several buyers, she studies new listings first, then heads to the office around 8:00 a.m. to work on active transactions. She tries to fit in two or three training classes per week and takes personal time in the afternoon. “The past three weeks I’ve worked 70 hours a week, because I’ve had three sets of buyers, two from out of town,” she says. “So, I was showing homes until I couldn’t get into homes anymore.” In the evenings, she’d work on offers and contracts. Penny’s clients come from a variety of sources: referrals, longtime friends, open house prospects, word-of-mouth from past clients, signs, office walkins, phone calls, and her website. “I have plenty of business at the moment. I’m really happy,” Penny says. And then after briefly reflecting, she repeats, “I’m really happy.” Not a surprising sentiment from a successful new agent, who even attracts clients during minor traffic violations.

COLLEEN FROST A Boundless Mindset Written by Zach Cohen | Photography by Moose N Otter Productions

Originally from Rochester, New York, Colleen and her husband, Todd, moved to the Dallas area in 1997. “We thought we would never stay in Texas. We thought this was just a stepping stone.” However, the couple fell in love with Texas and have now been here for over two decades. They’ve experienced career changes, raised a family, and are now building one of the top brokerage firms in Collin County. Their success is due in part to their balancing personalities. Each brings qualities to the table that allows them to exceed client expectations, day in and day out. “We’re yin and yang,” Colleen explains. “He’s all data. I’m all marketing. He’s very calm. I’m energetic.”

officer. By graduation, she had recognized her genuine passion was studying criminal justice and decided to launch a career as a paralegal. For many years, Colleen worked in personal injury and medical malpractice, before becoming a mother to her two lovely children, Brendan and Riley. When her children were young, Colleen founded a business called An Extra Pair of Hands, which assisted families with miscellaneous life tasks, including housekeeping.

From Rochester, NY to Plano, TX

After a few years of success, Colleen’s passion for the business had waned, prompting her to create a business staging homes for Realtors. This was her first step into the real estate industry.

Colleen Frost has a varied background with experience in multiple industries. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Brockport, with dreams of becoming a police

As an electrical engineer by trade, Todd was previously employed in the telecom industry. In 2011, the telecom industry was struggling, and Todd and Colleen felt an impending change. With a desire to stay ahead of the curve, Colleen got her real estate license, and within two years, Todd decided to put his engineering life behind him and become a real estate agent, as well. “That’s when things really took off,” Colleen explains, “both personally and professionally.” The Path to Real Estate Success

After getting licensed in 2011, Colleen launched her real estate career with Keller Williams. Here, her fire was lit by her first coach: “I didn’t realize this, but I owe a bit of gratitude,” Colleen recalls. While planning her 2012 goal, Colleen stated she wanted to earn $100,000 but her coach looked at her disapprovingly, implying the impossibility of the goal. Colleen artificially deflated her goal to $60,000 for her coach, but the situation left her desiring to prove her coach wrong. “When you tell me I can’t do something—now I have to do it.” Colleen went on to earn over $300,000 that first year. When asked now about her yearly goals, Colleen says: “No goals equals no limits; believe that you are worthy.” A year and a half later, she joined Halo Group Realty. With a success-driven mindset, and an unorthodox approach, success came quickly for Todd and Colleen; in 2017 their sales exceeded $66M. However, it’s not the numbers or the awards that drive them. “The most rewarding part of my job is getting a hug from my clients,” Colleen explains. She strives to bring this level of attention and care into the brokerage, as well. In late June of 2017, Colleen and Todd opened their own brokerage firm. Colleen Frost REALTORS ® is located in Downtown Historic Plano. Colleen Frost REALTORS ® fondly dubbed CFR, has a motto: “Learn, Grow, and Become Better.” Through weekly training called FROSTMOSIS, two mentorship programs, and an encouraging environment, agents are able to feel accepted and supported in growing themselves and their business. “I want our brokerage to be more of a true family, a safe place,” Colleen states. Under Todd and Colleen’s inspiring tutelage, their brokerage has grown to over 50 agents in only a year.

A Boundless Mindset

From cleaning, staging, and ultimately selling homes, Colleen has solidified herself as a consistent multi-million dollar producer, a top agent in Collin County, and a BEST D Magazine winner year-afteryear. She gives the credit for her determination to her parents, who taught her at a young age to work smart, not hard, and to always put the needs of others before her own. Although her father passed away years ago, Colleen still feels his presence moving through her life, guiding her to success and happiness. Her family continues to be a steadying force in her life. “When I’m having a bad day, [my mom] will fill my cup right back up.” When they’re not working, Todd and Colleen can be found watching sporting events and spending quality time with Brendan and Riley. Colleen Frost’s mindset may be her most important asset. Her consistently optimistic and open outlook, paired with a determination to conquer anything she puts her mind to, makes her an incredible Realtor and Entrepreneur.

“

The most rewarding part of my job is getting a hug from my clients.

FAQ About This Magazine

About This Magazine We realize that Real Producers is a new concept here in North DFW, and some of you may be wondering what it is all about. That is why we have created a “FAQs About This Magazine” page. Here we will answer the most commonly asked questions around the country regarding our program. My door is always open to discuss anything regarding this community – this publication is 100 percent designed to be your voice!

Q: WHO RECEIVES THIS MAGAZINE?

A: The top 500 agents in North Dallas/ Fort Worth. We pulled the MLS numbers (by volume) from June 2017–May 2018 in the North DFW area: Collin County, Denton County, Rockwall County along with a few other locations in Dallas County that are North of I-635. We cut the list off at #500, and the distribution was born. For this year’s list, the minimum production level for our group is $8.3 million. The list will reset at the end of 2018 for next year and continue to update annually.

Q: WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR BEING FEATURED IN THIS MAGAZINE?

A: It’s really simple – every feature you see has first been nominated. You can nominate other realtors, affiliates, brokers, owners, or even yourself! Office leaders can also nominate realtors. We will consider anyone brought to our attention, because we don’t know everyone’s story, so we need your help to learn about them. A nomination currently looks like this: you email us at northdfw@ realproducersmag.com with the subject line, “Nomination: (Name of Nominee).” Please explain why you are nominating them to be featured. It could be they have an amazing story that needs to be told – perhaps they overcame extreme obstacles, they are an exceptional leader, have the best customer service, or they give back to the community in a big way, etc. The next step is an interview with us to ensure it’s a good fit. If it all works out, then we put the wheels in motion for our writer to conduct an interview to write the article and for our photographers to schedule a photo shoot.

Q: WHO ARE THE PREFERRED PARTNERS?

A: Anyone listed as a “preferred partner” in the front of the magazine is a part of this community. They will have an ad in every issue of the magazine, attend our quarterly events, and be a part of our online community. We don’t just find these businesses off the street, nor do we work with all businesses that approach us. One or many of you have recommended every single preferred partner you see in this publication. We won’t even meet with a business that has not been vetted by one of you and “stamped for approval,” in a sense. Our goal is to create a powerhouse network, not only for the best realtors in the area, but the best affiliates, as well, so we can grow stronger together. Q: HOW CAN I RECOMMEND A PREFERRED PARTNER?

A: If you know and want to recommend a local business that works with top realtors, please email us at to let us know at: northdfw@realproducersmag.com.

Q: WHAT DOES IT COST A REALTOR/ TEAM TO BE FEATURED?

A: Zero, zilch, zippo, nada, nil. It costs nothing, my friends, so nominate away! We are not a pay-to-play model. We share real stories of real producers.
