We are excited to have you join us this evening as we recognize the academic accomplishments of some remarkable high school seniors in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and also recognize amazing individuals who demonstrate a commitment to the betterment of our communities. We are especially excited about this year’s Alpha Legacy Celebration. While we have continued to present scholarships over the years, it has been ten years since we last hosted our signature Alpha Legacy Celebration gala. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that our scholarship recipients, our honorees, and our guests have a memorable evening. As a tax exempt 501(c)(3) corporation, the Sankofa Foundation embodies the principles of its namesake. The term “Sankofa” is a Ghanaian concept that reminds us to “reach back and gather the best of what our past has to teach us, so that we can achieve our full potential as we move forward” to a better future. One visual depiction of this principle is a mythical bird in forward motion, while turning back towards an egg (symbolizing the future) being carried on its back. Through our dedication to community service, scholarship, and civic responsibility, the Sankofa Foundation honors the principle of “Sankofa.” As you join us in celebrating our scholarship recipients and honorees, I wish you all an enjoyable evening. Area I consists of the following chapters: Alpha Sigma Lambda, Dallas; Eta Epsilon, University of North Texas; Iota Kappa, Paul Quinn College; Rho Nu Lambda, Carrollton/ Flower Mound/ Lewisville; Tau Xi, University of Texas at Dallas; Upsilon Mu, Southern Methodist University; Xi Tau Lambda, North Dallas County; and Zeta Tau, Texas A&M University-Commerce.
