Serving the Cowichan area, our flagship facility features a fullfeatured aquatic venue that includes a wave pool, lazy river, twin water slides, 8 lane 25-metre competitive lap pool, steam room, sauna and swirl pool. Additionally, we feature an abundance of fitness classes, a full fitness centre, meeting spaces, birthday parties and more.

Serving North Cowichan and the surrounding area, this arena provides an excellent ice skating surface, two meeting rooms, and ample parking to handle a variety of activities. In addition, it is home to a variety of programs and is the recreation base for the communities of Chemainus and Crofton.

Annual Plus Membership Full access yearly pass including 1 token each visit, automatic extensions for stat holidays and shut down. Plus, you can freeze the pass if you are unable to attend. Minimum 7-day freeze.

Leisure Access Pass The Leisure Access Pass provides low-income residents the ability to access basic recreation programs and services in the Municipality of North Cowichan. These include drop-in programs and all public swimming and skating events (skate rentals not included).

What happens when a program, camp, or rental is cancelled:

From time to time we all end up with unexpected emergencies or interruptions.

If we must cancel: Regrettably, if a minimum number of participants is not met, we may have to cancel or combine classes due to insufficient registration. These decisions are made prior to the course start date. Please register early to avoid disappointment. A 100% refund is granted when we cancel a program.

When a class has been cancelled due to instructor illness, weather conditions, or facility interruptions, a class will be added on at the end of the session whenever possible. If this is not possible, you will be issued a refund in the amount of the missed class.

Your plans have changed; You have to cancel: A refund will be issued if we receive the applicable withdrawal notification. Programs and lessons require five (5) or more days’ notice prior to the course start date. Camps, certification courses, and facility bookings require seven (7) or more days’ notice prior to the course start date. If appropriate notice is not given, no refund will be issued. There may be other exceptions to these guidelines. In some cases, these exceptions will be noted in the individual course description. SEPTEMBER 18 – OCTOBER 4, 2026 To celebrate Fuller Lake Arena as an important part of North Cowichan’s community history by highlighting the people, teams, events, and memories that have shaped the facility over the years.

The project will combine a historical digital display throughout Culture Days with a free family celebration skate on the final day

Culture Days Community Skate Join us in honouring community, culture, and connection through a FREE family skate. Skating has long been part of our local tradition, bringing people together across generations to share stories, laughter, and new experiences. Whether you’re stepping onto the ice for the first time, practicing your skills, or cheering from the sidelines, this event is about celebrating the heritage of gathering and the joy of community spirit. All ages are welcome, and rentals are free.

Kung Fu Kardio

Are you an older adult looking for motivation to become more physically active? Join the Choose to Move information session and find out if this free program is right for you. Choose to Move is not an exercise class—it's a motivational coaching program designed to help you build healthy habits and become more active in ways that suit your lifestyle. With the support of a trained activity coach and a group of peers, you’ll create a personalized action plan and get the encouragement you need to stick with it.

Get ready to sweat, strengthen, and unleash your power with Kung Fu Kardio! This total body workout is suitable for all fitness levels—no martial arts experience required. Cowichan Aquatic Centre ActivAge ActivAge is a free group led physical activity program for inactive older adults. It introduces participants to physical activity and reinforces their commitment to incorporate it into their daily lives. The program is progressive with planned physical activities based on ActivAge training.

This fun and social program will help get participants moving in a relaxed environment with likeminded people.

It focuses on improving activities associated with daily living, strengthening muscles used day-to-day.

FAME FAME (Fitness and Mobility Exercise) Program is a researchbased group exercise program developed for people living with stroke who have some standing and walking ability.

This FAME program is part of a research program conducted by researchers at the University of British Columbia. Registrants may be contacted by the research team to discuss interest in potential participation in an optional research study. You do not have to participate in the research study to participate in the FAME program.

FAME offers a safe and effective exercise program to enhance mobility and fitness of people living with stroke.

Personal Training supports all ages and fitness levels with motivation, accountability, and consistent guidance. Trainers provide individual attention, safe and effective exercises, proper form correction, and help in setting realistic goals. Sessions build confidence, add variety, and can be tailored to sport‑specific needs.

Aquatic training** offers benefits that are equal to-or even greater- than land-based exercise. Thanks to the water’s ability to support body weight, reduce joint stress, enhance full body circulation and aid in pain relief and post operative recovery. This is NOT swimming lessons

Gym Orientation During this time slot you can book either a Physical Activity Program Orientation OR a Strength & Cardio Plus Orientation. Please see description for information on what each orientation requires and offers.

Physical Activity Program Orientation For participants referred by their physician through Healthy Families BC. Meet one-on-one with a certified fitness instructor for a facility tour, fitness centre and pool orientation, program overview, and answers to your questions.

Participants are eligible for a discounted 3-month membership upon completion. Available once per person.

New to the gym or unsure how to use the cardio and strength equipment? Our trained Weight Room instructors are here to help.

This 30‑minute orientation provides the basics to get you started, including how to use equipment safely, proper gym etiquette, and answers to common form questions.

Please note this is not a personalized program, but an entry-level introduction to the facility.

The orientation will provide you with essential information to help you get started on an exercise program such as basic equipment use and tips on weight training to prevent injury to yourself or the equipment. Swim Parent and Tot Parent & Tot 1 - Jellyfish (4 mo-12 mo) Provides an orientation to water for infants and their parent/caregiver learning how to swim safely with their infant in the pool through instruction of holds and supports. Infants will be introduced to getting their faces wet, blowing bubbles, and floating with the help of their caregiver.

Aquatics

Swim School Aged Swimmer 5 (5-12 years) Swimmers will master dives and swimming in deep water. Breaststroke, front and back crawl are further developed. Interval training and sprinting drills are introduced.

Swimmer 6 (5-12 years) Swimmers will become proficient at deep water skills including stride entries and compact jumps. They’ll develop lifesaving kicks such as eggbeater and scissor kicks. Breaststroke, front crawl, and back crawl are further developed. A 300m workout develops strength and endurance.

Swimmer 7 - Rookie Patrol (8-13 years) Swimmers continue developing front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Swimmers develop individual fitness to meet a timed 100m swim and 350m workout. Water proficiency skills include swimming with clothes, ready position, and feet-first/head-first surface dives. Primary assessment and calling EMS are included as first aid skills. Victim recognition and throwing assists are other key elements of the program.

Swimmer 8 - Ranger Patrol (8-13 years) Ranger Patrol enhances capability in the water including stride entries and underwater, forward and backward somersaults. Swimmers learn lifesaving sports skills with a lifesaving stroke medley, object support, and a 200m timed swim. First aid focuses on unconscious victims and obstructed airway procedures.

Swimmer 9 - Star Patrol (8-13 years) Star Patrol challenges swimmers with a 300m timed swim, 600m workout and a 25m object carry. Strokes are continued to be refined. Lifesaving skills include use of rescue aids, defense methods, victim removals and supporting a victim in shallow water. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies. Once complete, swimmers register into Bronze Star.

Advanced Aquatics Bronze Medallion

Standard First Aid

Bronze Medallion, as our flagship certification, teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness.

Candidates acquire the assessment and problemsolving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross

Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR which includes: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies.

Upon successful completion of this 16-hour course, you will hold a three-year certification in Standard First Aid, OFA level 1, and CPR C with AED.

Bronze Cross Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision.

The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards.

Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities.
