Bucky Kopf is Avon Lake Citizen of the Year

Congratulations to our builder member, Bucky Kopf for being named as Citizen of the Year by Avon Lake Community Council.

The Community Council announcement reports that Bucky's unanimous selection is based on his longstanding generosity and philanthropy in the community. As the driving force behind projects like the Avon Lake High School baseball fields, park land for the Kopf Family Reservation and support of sports organizations and nonprofit groups in the community, Bucky's generosity is far-reaching.

Avon Lake Community Council is composed of 24 community organizations that work together to share resources, ideas and raise awareness of member organization causes.

COME TOGETHERA Night to Remember!

You saw all the photos in last month’s Builder Newsletter but here is a recap of all the awards given out.

This first award was an extremely distinguished award as we have only ever had two other individuals from our association receive it before her. Mary H. Felton of Guardian Title received a Statesmen SpikeAward which is the highest spike award you can receive, earning more than 500 spikes. Mary has given countless hours to this association, chairing numerous committees, a Board of Director, Officer, Life Director and finally 2015-2016 President. We greatly appreciate everything she has done for our association and the industry. Each year the president gives out Diamond of Distinction awards to individuals that were instrumental in helping during their presidency. The first set of awards goes to Matt Herb of Fidelity National Title and Jon Sherer of Paraprin Construction. These men have embraced their roles as the Membership committee co-chairs and we won three of five NAHB membership awards. Next, Tim King of K. Hovnanian and John Toth of Floor Coverings International who are co-chairs of the Workforce Development committee. They have put in countless hours and emails to get our Lorain County JVS mentorship program off the ground. We inducted 2 new members into our Hall of Fame! Our first individual, Terry Bennett of Bennett Builders and Remodelers has been a member of the NCBIA since 1992 and has been heavily involved with the Cleveland HBA, Ohio Home Builders Association, and the National Association of Home Builders since the late 70s. He was the president of the Cleveland HBA in 1986 where, at the time, he was the youngest president they have ever had. In our association he has served on countless committees including the remodeler’s council where he was chairman from 1998 to 2001, membership committee, installation banquet committee and the past president’s council. In 2003 he took on the role of President where he was the 1st individual to take on a two-year term. Also, in 2003 he was a guest instructor at the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. He has won many awards throughout his career including two OHBA Best of Ohio Awards, eight NCBIA Remodeler of The Year Awards, NAHB Remodeler of the Month in May of 2005, as well as dozens of other NCBIA Circle of Excellence Awards. He truly shows what it means to give everything you can to an association. Our second inductee, Jim Sprague of Maloney + Novotny LLC has been a member since 1993 and on our board of directors since 1994. He became a life director in 2004 and has held many other positions within the NCBIA. Jim is also a two-time award winner of the Diamond of Distinction award and was the first individual to ever receive one of these. He has been involved with the finance committee, the home show committee, ambassadors committee as well as the promotional committee that was started when Erie & Huron Counties were brought into our association. It was with that committee that Logo Man was born! Logo Man was created to help create brand awareness with our new logo, and Jim was exceptional at it! Jim has dedicated many years to this industry and its members and for that we thank him.
