captain tobias is back on the road The Paces hero embarked on another fundraising mission Nine-year-old Sheffield fundraising hero ‘Captain’ Tobias Weller embarked on his next mission as part of a team which took on a sponsored 480-mile virtual bike ride. The youngster, who lives with cerebral palsy and autism, joined staff at East Midlands Designer Outlet’s Converse Store in Derbyshire to ‘virtually’ cycle the distance from the store to the firm’s head office in Hilversum, Holland, to raise funds for Paces. Tobias used a specially designed Rifton Tricycle, provided by Sheffield-based postural support specialist Jiraffe. The bespoke trike has since been permanently donated to young Tobias for him to use either at home or at school. At the start of lockdown, Tobias made national headlines by raising almost £150,000 for The Children’s Hospitals Charity and Paces, a specialist centre, school and charity who support children and adults with neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, MS, Stroke, and Parkinson’s. Tobias first walked the distance of a marathon despite his own personal challenges, before then taking on a second challenge using a Race Runner. He completed both challenges in his favourite shoes – his Converse Chucks – hence the link to the brand’s nearest store at the East Midlands Designer Outlet near Alfreton in north Derbyshire. During his latest fundraising mission, Tobias said: “Thanks Jiraffe for the trike – I’m loving using it! I love raising money for
Paces School, it makes me feel awesome, and it’s amazing to be doing it in my favourite shoes, too – I’m chuffed to bits!” Ruth Garbutt, Tobias’s mum, said: “I’m delighted that, following his marathons, Tobias is getting so many opportunities. He really enjoyed joining in the sponsored bike ride. We really appreciate the fundraising efforts from the staff at Converse. For Jiraffe to donate the tricycle to Tobias is brilliant too, they have been so generous and, as you can imagine, he’s chuffed to bits!” Julie Booth, Head of Fundraising at Paces, said: “We’re so grateful to Tobias and his family for everything that he’s done for us in the last few months – his efforts have been incredible. “The funds he has raised will make a huge difference to us, with this latest mission with the team at the Converse Store adding to an already incredible amount raised for our charity in recent times.”

stay safe A Covid-19 testing centre has opened in Burngreave Based at Gower Street Car Park in Burngreave, the new unit will be open from Wednesday 30 September between 2pm5pm. From Thursday 1 October, operating hours will be between 8am-8pm for a three month period, allowing people with symptoms to get tested. In making testing easier and more accessible, the council is supporting our communities to get tested for free. Working in partnership with community organisations across the city, the aim is to prevent transmission of the virus in the local communities. People should only take a test if they have symptoms of Covid-19: a high temperature, a new and continious cough and a loss of smell or taste. Tests can only be booked via the national NHS portal online here nhs. uk/coronavirus or by calling 119. Testing is a vital part in the fight against the spread of Covid-19 in our city and to help reduce the rate of people contracting the virus, everyone needs to get tested as soon
as they have any symptoms. Director of Public Health at Sheffield City Council, Greg Fell, said: “Firstly, I want to reassure people that we have a very clear understanding of the situation in Sheffield with a plan in place to respond to the changing picture promptly. The health and safety of the city’s residents remains our priority. “In our efforts to slow the case numbers in the city we must remain vigilant and testing is one way of helping us contain any potential spread of the virus. “But, in order to reduce the rate of people contracting the virus, we need your help. Robin of Locksley
In the 12th century, the huge forest of Loxley Chase extended as far south east as Nottinghamshire in where it met up with Sherwood Forest, the birthplace of the mythical figure Robin Hood. Or maybe not! Robin of Locksley was alleged to have been born in Loxley rather than Nottinghamshire in 1160. Ballads from the Middle Ages, such as A Gest of Robyn Hode and Sir Walter Scott’s 1820 novel Ivanhoe both indicate that Robin Hood was a Sheffielder. A campaign launched earlier this year by Sheffield Hallam and Sensoria Festival aimed to shed light on this oftenoverlooked bit of South Yorkshire legend. Sheffield council even went as far as drawing up a list of possibilities – including a monument in Loxley Valley and markers at key spots which could be developed with augmented reality.

high five Bradfield Brewery celebrates 5,000th brew with a brand new ale... Whilst it’s been an incredibly tricky period for those in the hospitality industry, Bradfield Brewery have been pressing on and continuing to deliver those famous ales we’ve come to love so much. They’ve pressed on SO MUCH, that they reached their 5,000th brew last month. To mark the occasion, the brewery decided to release a new ale using five hops, five malts and is a tidy 5%abv. In a statement released on the brewery’s website, Bradfield said: “Whilst we’ve been busy running the covid curveball gauntlet, we have not forgotten an all important milestone coming our way! The 14th of September saw our 5000th Brew take place and we hope you’ll agree, that’s something to celebrate. “With our seasonal calendar being turned upside down, we had planned for a brand new brew in May this year, using our very own, home grown hops. Not wanting these hops to go to waste and with the milestone brew coming up, it lended us the opportunity to go forth and deliver! So with our homegrown hops included, the brew will be made using 5 different hops, 5 different malts and if you’ve not guessed it, the beer will be 5%abv.” The momentous occasion was celebrated with a 24 hour brew-athon with brewers Sam, Bruce and Kieran which took place on the 24th September. bradfieldbrewery.com

REGENERATION New lease of life for Leah's Yard New developments in Sheffield’s Heart of the City II scheme are taking place, as work at Leah’s Yard gets underway and further plans for Cambridge Street are given the green light. Local construction firm, RF Joinery, has begun essential structural works on the listed Leah’s Yard building on Cambridge Street. Leah’s Yard is viewed as an important part of Sheffield’s industrial heritage and houses a collection of small, former manufacturing workshops. As part of the transformational Heart of the City II scheme, Sheffield City Council and its Strategic Development Partner, Queensberry, are undertaking preliminary works to bring the derelict building back into a usable condition. Leah’s Yard sits within Block H of Heart of the City II, which will be the cultural and social anchor of the scheme, combining existing and new architecture to create a destination which is uniquely Sheffield. Adjoining Leah’s Yard, the plans for another element of Block H on Cambridge Street – which will include a food hall or similar social offer, a live entertainment venue and a new outdoor square – received planning approval last month. Named Cambridge Street Collective, this part of the scheme also includes significant heritage retention. It will revitalise the famous Henry’s Corner, DINA building and Bethel Chapel, with a new structure added behind which will contrast with 12 | www.NorthBoundmagazine.co.uk
and complement the older architecture. Councillor Mazher Iqbal, Cabinet Member for Business and Investment at Sheffield City Council, said: “We are attempting to retain a lot of attractive heritage across the Heart of the City II scheme, while also ensuring we create new spaces that are usable and sustainable to the local economy. Leah’s Yard is a particularly special part of the Heart of the City II project. It has a great story within our city and bringing it back to its former glory was always high on our list of priorities. “It’s an exciting challenge and more detailed plans will be unveiled in due course. However, we truly believe that Leah’s Yard — alongside the newly approved plans for the neighbouring Cambridge Street Collective and Bethel Chapel — will help create a new cultural and social focal point in the city centre.” Paul Roberts, Director at RF Joinery and Shopfitting Ltd said: “As a Sheffield-based construction firm, we’re really pleased to be involved in bringing back to life such a valuable part of our city’s heritage. Tom Walker Tom’s brother Nick died tragically in 2008. Last month, Tom and the Nick Walker Memorial Team raised more than £84,000 for Sheffield Children’s and took on the gruelling Robin Hood 100-mile run. More than 12 years have passed since 16-year-old Nick Walker died tragically in an accident outside his school. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Nick’s family and friends, his memory lives on and continues to help other children today. Their fundraising journey began just a year after Nick’s death in 2009. Nick’s then 19-yearold brother Tom and their father Mal decided to run a Lake District half marathon in his memory, and when 20 friends and relatives joined in, they raised almost £5,000 for The Children’s Hospital Charity. It spurred the group, soon known as The Nick Walker Memorial Team, to carry on making a difference in his name. They have now raised more than £84,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital and their latest challenge will see Tom take on the gruelling Robin Hood 100-mile Ultra run on September 12th. Explaining his motivation, Tom, 31, said: “I saw the event on Facebook and I liked the symmetry of a 100-mile run to help push our fundraising towards £100,000, which is our target for Sheffield Children’s. “I thought I’d give it a go and training has been going okay. It will be the furthest I
have run and a big step up in distance on anything I’ve ever done before. I’ve ran 50km a few times and back-to-back marathons but nothing quite like this. “I had planned to have three friends run 10-mile stints with me from the 50 mile mark, but unfortunately the coronavirus means they have limited numbers and I’ll have to run the distance on my own.” Previous fundraising events have included a 180-mile cycle from Great Ormond Street Hospital to Sheffield Children’s to mark 10 years since Nick’s passing, football and cricket tournaments, a coast-to-coast triathlon as well as countless marathons, entertainment nights and charity balls. In 2019, Tom and fellow Team Nick member Scott Bailey climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to further boost their fundraising for The Children’s Hospital Charity. Tom, from Wickersley, added: “I’m beyond grateful to everyone who has sponsored me so far. It still amazes me just how generous people are after such a long period of raising money, it means the world.” The incredible total has supported several appeals and included raising £13,000 for
the Kids Scanner appeal and £25,000 for a single, en-suite bedroom in one of three new wards at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, which opened to patients in April 2018. Tom adds: “My brother and I were never treated there, but we wanted to support a hospital which fights for children’s lives every day. It is great to think we have made such a positive impact on people’s lives in memory of Nick. “Every so often I get a message from someone saying that they have been at Sheffield Children’s with family and how grateful they are to people like us who fundraise for the hospital. It’s a legacy we are incredibly proud of.” Cheryl Davidson, Events Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Hospital Charity added: “The Nick Walker Memorial Team are a group of fantastic friends that work every day to honour Nick’s memory in the best way they can. Twin Steel City What we love about our twin cities A bustling city in the heart of Pennsylvania, USA, Pittsburgh is known proudly across the States as the Steel City. Only natural, then, that it stakes a claim as one of Sheffield’s twin cities. There are more than 300 steel-related businesses in Pittsburgh, as well as being known for manufacturing aluminium, glass, autos and shipbuilding – plus its 446 bridges earn it a nickname of the City of Bridges. It’s truly a city of mass industry. But that industry isn’t all that defines it, with the city becoming a hub for health care, education and technology in the middle of the 20th century. It’s also home to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center - a $21 billion integrated global non-profit health enterprise which employs nearly 100,000. Six times, the city was named the best city to live in by The Economist – there’s plenty going on here, by the looks of it! Back in the 1700s, France and Britain were in a tug of war over control of the land – known then as Fort Duquesne and Fort Pitt. Once Britain gained control, the city was later developed into Pittsburgh which was named after William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham, often referred to as William Pitt the Elder, a British statesman from London. In the 1800s, the city became a hotbed for industrial production with huge numbers travelling over to America from Europe – most notably Ireland, Wales and Germany. Businessman Andrew Carnegie introduced a special method to the city, increasing

output significantly and growing the industry in and around Pittsburgh. The process was the Bessemer process, invented by Sir Henry Bessemer – the man accredited with turning Sheffield into a major steel producer. The 1900s saw the population of the city swell due to the number of workers travelling over. During World War II, demand for steel increased and Pittsburgh produced 95 million tons of steel for the war effort. Much like Sheffield during the 1970s and 80s, due to national restructuring, thousands were laid off and numurous plants were closed down as the state switched its economic base to education, tourism, healthcare, finance, and technology. During the late 2000 recession, Pittsburgh actually prospered due to this switch in industry, which even saw house prices improve by 10% during the period of financial difficulty. The city was creating jobs when most states were laying people off. The city of Pittsburg is also known as an incredibly hilly area of the country. Canton Avenue in the Beechview area of the city - right - is the steepest street in the USA and one of the steepest roads in the world.

NorthBound chats to the people shaping a new-look Hillsborough Park

Hillsborough Park Over the summer, there was a welcome beacon of positivity in the news that concerned all S6ers. Hillsborough Park would be getting a new community café, acting as the central hub for Age UK Sheffield. We also recently got the news that there would be a £250,000 bike track installed as part of collaborative project between the council, Access Sport and Sheffield Hallam University. With the doom and gloom of the daily updates of the coronavirus, these bits of news were something we could look forward to and a light at the end of the tunnel. Like anything, progress on the café has been delayed but work is due to begin next year. In the meantime, we spoke to Cally Bowman from Age UK Sheffield to find out all about the project. Thanks for talking to us Cally – can you introduce us to Age UK? First and foremost its important to clarify we’re not Age UK, we’re Age UK Sheffield – we’re a local independent charity and exclusively provide services for the people in Sheffield. Some of the things we do is we’ll have some general services like our Information and Advice Service where people can call us up and we help with all sorts of questions and advice on things that will have an impact on people aged over 50. That’s the sort of premise for our services, everyone can contact us for help over the age of 50. Then we have more specialist services like our dementia services. For example our dementia day care centre, which we call our Wellbeing Centre, in Norfolk Park. That’s a place for people who are living with dementia who can go there for the day and it gives the carers a bit of respite and another opportunity to gain support. We have two shops at the moment - which is great because we didn’t have any up until last year - it gives us a great opportunity to raise money to fund our services for people in Sheffield. There are some national age UK Charity Shops in Sheffield too, the difference is that they raise money for the national and international Age UK Charity. Tell us about the local services you offer We have our ILC Service, which stands for Independent Living Coordination. This service provides up to three moments of support for someone who may need help for a whole host of reasons, for example they may be effected by social isolation, financial difficulties, mental health, cancer, or bereavement. It’s a really unique, person centred service that makes a huge difference to people’s lives. We’ve started a new service *called Porter Valley in Touch* which is really exciting and unique, too. It’s for people who might be feeling socially isolated or might have had a big change in their life like they might have lost a partner, left the hospital or had a change in mobility or a loss of independence and confidence. I’m sure you can imagine lots of people have had their confidence knocked because of Covid-19, some are worried to leave the house sometimes. What we’re doing is training volunteers to support them and share their skills with those people. We pair them up based on similar hobbies and interests and you visit them and help them get back into cooking, for example, to help with their confidence in that. www.NorthBoundmagazine.co.uk | 31

Or perhaps they want to feel more confident going to the shops so the volunteer might help with getting on a bus and going into town – the little things like that really make a difference for people when they live on their own. There are quite a lot of different services but they are all generally aimed at helping people live as independently and safely as possible with dignity and an improved sense of wellbeing. Not just for people with dementia, you cover quite a lot! Absolutely, even for people who are turning 50 and thinking about retirement and what that means for them, we’re there to help with that too. Another example is we help people make sure that they are claiming the benefits they are entitled to. A lot of carers don’t realise they are actually carers and have access to a Carer’s Allowance. It’s a very wide ranging service for lots of people. Have you had an Increase in people helping because of Covid? We have, it was absolutely amazing. At the start of lockdown, we knew a lot of the people we were in touch with would struggle to get food and get out so we put an ask out on social media for people to help deliver food with us because we knew we wanted to put together a food parcel service, we just needed the volunteers to help us deliver the food to do it. It was overwhelming the amount of people who got in touch and wanted to help – it was genuinely inspiring and lovely. We couldn’t even get everyone to help who came forward, that’s how many
volunteered! We had people continuing to do it every single week too without fail, twice a week, and it was amazing. It’s nice when you see the good in people during situations like that. I think people are now aware of just how many people there are across our city that are socially isolated and it really brought it to people’s attention that, coronavirus or not, a lot of people are just sat at home on their own and won’t see anybody else for perhaps a week at a time. Almost everyone can help us too – even if it’s just signing up to be on the other end of the telephone just for half an hour every week and that can make someone’s week. When I was dropping food parcels off some of the people were so happy just to have a distanced chat. So can you tell us about the big project in Hillsborough Park? The café will be in the old Coach House, which is essentially derelict. We decided that it would be great to have a central hub in the park for everyone in the community to go and socialise. What the park is missing – and it’s amazing that so many people go to it – we need more places for older people to visit and have access to different activities and events. We figured this would be a nice central hub for that, and it’s a great opportunity to restore an amazing historic building. The café would be open to absolutely everyone, but there are areas where we can host different events and activities - but the activities will be put together to help those aged 50 and over. For example, Digital Access Sessions where we help people get online because
digital inclusion is so important now. Something we take for granted but there are a lot of people out there who aren’t tech-savvy. There’ll be sessions for people living with dementia too where they and their carers and family can come and take part in something that’s in the local community. Not just a café then! It’s evolved from just a café with some events to including other things nearby too. There’s a potting shed next to it that we’re converting into a creative maker’s shed. It might be a place for people to get involved in arts and crafts. What’s great about that is, thinking about these activities across the city, there aren’t that many for older men. A lot of them are things like sports-based chats and that’s great if you like sport, but if you aren’t into that then there aren’t many other options for older men to get out and meet other people. Hopefully this will help bridge that gap and it’s really nice to see it go from a café, to an event space, to an opportunity to create a wider variety activities for people. MOVING UP A GEAR Gareth Jones, project manager for the Hillsborough Park bike track, discusses the bike track project and how it will improve the park... Hi Gareth, could you give us a bit of an insight into what you do and your role in the Hillsborough Park project? I am the Evaluation and Development Manager for the Hillsborough All Wheeled Bike Park. I am a researcher in Behavioural Health Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, Academy for Sport and Physical Activity. My role on this project is to oversee the project, whilst connecting key organisations, stakeholders, and people together, so that the project will achieve its aims and ambitions to the best of its ability. I am also running a research project, evaluating any potential impact the facility and social programme has on participants health and wellbeing. And can you tell us a bit about the project itself? The Hillsborough All Wheeled Bike Park is a ‘Making Trax’ programme from the charity, Access Sport. It’s main aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community, using physical activity as the vehicle in which to drive this. The Making Trax programme is an open to everyone, but also targets three distinct groups; children and young people, women and girls, and those with a disability. There are three key ingredients to the programme, (1) creating a high
quality facility, (2) creating a club that supports the activation of the site, and (3) an outreach programme supported by British Cycling that will upskill and enthuse the local community in the Hillsborough area, sign-posting to the facility and the club when set up. How important will this be to the community – mentally and physically? I believe this facility and activation programme will be immensely important to the community. It will act as a real hub for activity and cycling in the Hillsborough area for a wide age range and as an alternative activity to what already exists in Hillsborough. We know the benefits living an active life has on one’s physical and mental health, however in modern society, we have engineered physical activity out of our daily lives. Creating new and exciting physical and social infrastructure, such as this, is part of the solution to inspire people to live an active life; importantly, not because they have to, but because they want to. In addition, cycling is a key foundation skill, so if we build people’s confidence and competence on a bike, that skill of cycling is likely to lend itself to other areas of life, such as active travel.

What will the other orgs be bringing to the table in Access Sport, Move More and Sheffield city council? Making Trax is an Access Sport programme. There are Making Trax programme’s already running in London and Bristol, and so Access Sport are bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in getting the programme up and running, amongst other things too. Move More is Sheffield’s physical activity strategy, and thus, Move More has aided in connecting key organisations, stakeholders, and people together, maximising the success of the programme. Sheffield City Council (SCC) have been crucial in the whole process and extremely helpful throughout. They manage Sheffield’s parks, and thus, the SCC Parks and Countryside team have been instrumental in supporting the project. All three organisations, as well as Sheffield Hallam University, are working in partnership to aid in the creation and sustainability of the programme.

SettlingIn Northbound spoke to head of local and regional PR at Tramlines Alex Deadman about the impact the festival’s had on the local area How has the festival changed since it moved to Hillsborough Park? Last year was a great success. We learnt quite a lot from the move, but it was a lot smoother than in previous years too. It is a better space to go and get lost in and you feel like you are at a big festival. You can forget you’re practically in the centre of a massive city! What’s the reaction to the move been like on the whole? The people from the local area have welcomed us with open arms… the New Barrack Tavern absolutely loved it, and not just because it brought them more trade! The festival is shining a light on them and on Hillsborough as well. It’s an area that is consistently overlooked. Last year we spent some time with several journalists covering the festival that had never even been to Hillsborough, never mind the park! They were really surprised by it. It’s nice to put a spotlight on the area and community, and not just for the football. Ticket stats have also shown that we have a lot more interest from people in the Hillsborough area/north of Sheffield than in past years. Spotlight on: Curo Gallery Curo is a family-run gallery and picture framing studio with a range of bespoke offerings, located opposite Hillsborough Park on the bustling Middlewood Road.
Owners Bev and Dez, who took over the already established business 5 years ago this month, are proud to provide friendly, creative services and a warm and welcoming environment in store. Should you pay them a visit – you might be lucky enough to meet additional members of the team, Poppie and Truffle, Curo’s lovely 4-legged mascots! For the uninitiated, picture framing is a professional way to properly present and preserve photographs, prints, and other special works of art. But why not just stick posters in a frame myself, I hear you ask? As Bev kindly explained to us, there is a lot more to framing than simply getting a picture on a wall. For instance, Curo will be able to assess and provide the proper protection for your piece. When we spoke to Bev, she was dealing with a pastel drawing that needed extra care to prevent smudging. They also work with special art glass which provides UV protection to prevent sun-damage. Aside from the practical reasons, there are also aesthetic benefits to choosing professional framing. As Bev tells us, the right colour mount and frame, and the correct size and texture all contribute to how the piece looks and are necessary for showing it at its best. This extends beyond 2D images as the team at Curo have experience framing a number
of unique objects for clients, from swords and handcuffs to ties and football memorabilia. Alongside bespoke framing, Curo also offers wood turning, arts and crafts commissions, calligraphy services, and beautiful flower preservation. A unique way to commemorate a wedding or anniversary, a special chemical drying method is used to preserve the look and colour of your flowers, or you can have them set in resin to make a stunning ornament. With backgrounds in art, joinery, and technical drawing between them, Bev and Dez are not short on creative ideas, and they welcome commissions and bespoke projects of all kinds relating to their areas of expertise. Purveyors of their community, Curo is proud to showcase the work of local artists and photographers. Currently, they are working on a collaboration with pioneering eco-friendly paint brand, Frenchic. Friend of the store, Sharon, who ran furniture painting workshops through her business Brush and Needle pre-Covid, is the Sheffield stockist for Frenchic and has a concession stand in Curo. From humble beginnings in 2015, Frenchic has grown to become an awardwinning, global paint brand beloved by upcyclers and home decorators alike. It is known for its high quality, superior coverage, 60+ colour range, and child-safe, eco-friendly ingredients. Bev and Dev are excited to stock the latest chalk and mineral paint brand to be taking the DIY world by storm.

barnsley chops Prep time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 10-20 minutes (depending on your preference) Serves: 8
2 Barnsley chops Salt and pepper Olive oil 125ml red wine 2 tsp redcurrant jelly 300ml chicken stock
Get a frying pan on a very high heat while you season the lamb chops generously with salt and pepper, then rub them with olive oil. Place the lamb fat-side-down in the hot pan, and leave for a couple of minutes until crisp. Turn the heat down to medium, flip the chops over and cook for 5 minutes. Flip again and cook on the other side for 7 to 10 minutes. This will vary greatly from chop to chop. If you want to be completely accurate, cook the chops until the internal temperature reaches 60°c for rare or 65°c for medium. Use a probe to check this. When done, rest on a warm plate or board while you make the sauce. Turn the heat back up and add the red wine to the pan. Use this to pick up all the crusty bits on the bottom of the pan. Stir in the redcurrant jelly and stock then let the sauce bubble furiously until syrupy. Check it for seasoning and when you’re happy, pour the sauce over the lamb and serve.

News: new scream movie to begin filming this month The new Scream movie is to start shooting before the end of the month ahead of a 2022 release date. According to Variety, the next instalment of the slasher franchise is prepared to begin filming in a studio located in Wilmington, North California. Original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will be reprising their roles as Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers and Deputy Dewey Riley. “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream’ franchise,” Campbell said in a statement. “I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.” Filmmaking group Radio Silence said of the news “We’re pinching ourselves!” Radio Silence said in a statement. “It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Teaser:Everybody’s Talkingaboutjamie The hotly anticipated film adaptation of the huge theatre hit Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be hitting the screens at the start of 2021. Speaking to Digital Spy, star of the movie Adeel Akhtar has teased that fans can look forward to the climatic prom scene in the film, the filming of which saw almost 80,000 people turning up to take part on a small street in Parson Cross. “Jamie is based on a real guy who wanted to go to his prom dressed in drag, but he’s from Sheffield,” Akhtar explained. Warp Films put a shout out to everybody [for the prom scene] and they were expecting maybe 10,000 people. I want to say that close to 80,000 people turned up on that street. It was the last scene on top of this limo in the prom dress driving through all these people from Sheffield just cheering and screaming him on. It’s a film that maybe 5 or 10 years ago, people wouldn’t be interested in, and to be a part of that crowd and to have a part in the film, it means so much. It’s so great.”

News: Sean Bean in new bbc prison drama ‘Time’ Sheff legend and all-round geezer Sean Bean will be teaming up with Stephen Graham to star in a gripping new prison drama from Jimmy McGovern for the BBC. Seen through the eyes of two different men, Time is as portrayal of life in the modern British penal system. Sean Bean takes on the role of Mark Hebden, a teacher, husband and father, who killed an innocent man in an accident. Separated from his family after accepting a four year sentence, he has no idea what to expect in this unforgiving new environment and needs to learn quickly how to survive. Stephen Graham is Eric Reid, a caring and honest prison officer who tries his very best to protect those in his charge – a daily challenge in this understaffed and high-tension world. M1 speed limit reduced to 60mph in anti-pollution test
Motorway speed limits being cut to 60mph on four stretches of road in a test in reducing air pollution from cars on their daily commutes. The trial is being introduced in locations which have been identified as having high levels of nitrogen dioxide, including the M1 junctions 33 and 34 near Rotherham. Highways England’s modelling and research and collaboration with other road operators shows that lowering the speed limit to 60mph is the most effective emission reduction option, reducing the level by 1 to 3 µg/m³ and bring forward compliance by one to two years compared to higher speeds nearer to 70mph. Ivan Le Fevre, head of environment at Highways England, said: “We have a duty to tackle air quality around our network and as part of this we are trialling 60mph speed limits on short sections of our network where action needs to be taken. “Ultimately the air quality challenge will be solved ‘at the tailpipe’ by vehicle manufacturers and changes in vehicle use. Until this happens we will continue our extensive programme of pioneering research and solutions. “The speed limits trial will stay in place until the shift to cleaner vehicles means we can remove the restrictions and maintain cleaner air.”
