Or, completion of TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 19 (TOEFL Institutional Code 8538), IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or CAEL 60. Once you have sent your first term fees and met all the requirements for your chosen program, NIC will send you a Letter of Acceptance, which will allow you to apply for your Study Permit at your nearest Canadian Embassy or High Commission.

Receiving your Letter of Acceptance also means you have become an NIC student—congratulations! Now you will be given a student number and access to NIC CONNECT to begin registering for your courses. You will also receive information regarding arrival and orientation.

North Island College campuses are located on Vancouver Island in Campbell River, Port Alberni, and the Comox Valley. Most international programs are based in the Comox Valley, which is home to three municipal communities: Courtenay, Comox, and Cumberland. Each offers unique shopping, recreation, and entertainment opportunities.

The Comox Valley is home to 64,084 people. Residents are friendly and welcoming, and primarily speak English. People in the Comox Valley enjoy many outdoor sports, and the arts community is highly developed and talented. Education and learning are very important to the people who live here.

Most residents have personal vehicles for transportation. Public bus services are available in every community, and bicycle travel is very common year round.

Centrally located on Vancouver Island, the Comox Valley provides many opportunities to visit the Island’s most famous locations such as Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park and the City of Victoria. GENERAL ADMISSION To qualify for admission to North Island College you must meet the following requirements: ESL programs: 1. Applicants must be 18* years of age and a high school graduate. TOEFL or IELTS scores are not required. All other programs (academic, career, trades): 1. Applicants must be 18* years of age 2. Meet other academic and admission requirements for their chosen program. For example: Grade 11 math. 3. English is the language of instruction. To be admitted to the college, you must meet the minimum English requirements for the program. You may complete the NIC English Language Program, submit Grade 12 English results, TOEFL 550 or CBT 213 or iBT 80 with no section below 19, IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, CAEL 60, or Cambridge Advanced or First Certificate with a minimum ‘B’ grade. International Baccalaureate diploma graduates are welcome to apply and will be provided with options of first year standing for many higher level courses with a minimum grade of 4. * Options may be available for younger students who have completed high school.

MATH/ENGLISH ASSESSMENT SERVICE North Island College offers math, English and ESL assessment services on campus or online.
