‘Get Moving Month’ is a national campaign running throughout July to get everyone, regardless of role or fitness level, up and about!
The beauty of Get Moving Month is that it’s not about running marathons or lifting heavy weights (although, if that floats your boat, more power to you!). It’s about incorporating more movement into our daily lives in fun, accessible ways.
It’s no secret that being physically active has numerous health benefits. It improves cardiovascular health, strengthens bones, and boosts mental well-being. But did you know that it also enhances productivity? That’s right –regular physical activity can improve your focus, creativity, and problem- solving skills, contributing to your success at work.
For our desk-based colleagues, consider walking during your lunch break or standing during phone calls. You could even initiate a fun ‘stand-and-stretch’ session during team meetings. Small changes like these can help to counteract the effects of prolonged sitting. For those in more physically demanding roles, you may think you’ve got this in the bag. But remember, different types of exercise bring additional benefits.
Balance your week with some leisurely activities - cycling, swimming, or even joining a dance class could offer an exciting contrast to your workday routine.
And let’s not forget the summer holidays are upon us. This is a perfect time to get the whole family involved in outdoor activities. Whether it’s a game of cricket in the local park, a bike ride, or a weekend hike, there’s something for everyone.
Consider setting a personal ‘Get Moving’ goal for July to keep track of your progress and maintain motivation. This could be anything from walking 10,000 steps a day, mastering a yoga pose, or discovering a new outdoor space each week.
