THE EXCHANGE

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

Dear colleagues,

Since my last update back in April, the past few months have been busy for the Group as we’ve seen some of our larger projects come to fruition. In June, we held our second ONE Event employee conference, and earlier this month, we launched the Norse Group Excellence Awards. Over recent months, we have seen the further development of Project One and the introduction of our new employee app, Engage. I’m grateful that so many of you have been so supportive as we cement these foundational changes which are set to help up move forward as a business.

EXCELLENCE AWARDS NOW OPEN!

I am delighted to inform you that since we launched our inaugural Norse Group Excellence Awards a few weeks ago, we have received nearly 100 entries from across the organisation, which is encouraging to see. This is our chance to shine a spotlight on the exceptional work done by our incredible employees across all areas of the business. I encourage every one of you to participate by submitting your nominations. Let’s celebrate the dedication, innovation, and outstanding contributions that make our organisation thrive.

Please take advantage of this opportunity for your team and colleagues to be recognised for their achievements. The awards submission deadline is 5 pm on Friday, 4 August 2023, so to enter the awards or find out more information about this year’s categories, visit awardsnorsegroup.co.uk.

The second issue of our employee publication, One Magazine, is out now! This issue is dedicated to Social Impact and looks at how our dedicated workforce pulls together to help improve the lives of others. Your feedback is important to me, so let me know what you think of the latest issue. Read One Magazine here.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Anthony Fearn, who has been made the IT Director for the Group. Anthony joined Norse in June 2022, previously serving at Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service for over a decade, responsible for all IT and Communications in a 24x7 critical emergency service.

Anthony’s journey began as an IT Engineer, working with many companies across the UK. He later transitioned into a consultant role and eventually took the reins as IT Director at a Norfolk-based IT company. I’m sure you will all join me in welcoming Anthony as the newest member of our Senior Management Team.

SUFFOLK/WAVENEY NORSE JV ENDS

At the end of June, we said goodbye to East Suffolk/Waveney Norse colleagues as they transferred back to East Suffolk Council and Lowestoft Town Council as the joint venture partnership came to an end after 15 years.

The local Norse teams have delivered a large number of services to our council partners that have made a real positive difference to residents in the Suffolk region, including waste management, grounds maintenance, vehicle management, investment projects and other programmes of work and services. I want to thank all employees, council partners, directors and individuals who have helped make the partnership successful.

LEARNING AT ITS BEST

ONE EVENT SPEAKER VIDEOS ON DEMAND

Thank you to everyone who attended this year's ONE Event. It was an incredible opportunity for different teams within the organisation to showcase their work and achievements. The event featured the chance to visit exhibition stands, listen to inspiring Speaker Sessions, networking opportunities, and important business updates. For those who missed out and were unable to attend on the day, don't worry; you can still catch up by accessing the ONE Event playlist. Earlier this month, our Learning and Development team were shortlisted as one of two finalists for the Paragon Skills, Large Employer of the Year Award. Although the team didn't win, this is a considerable achievement, which is a testament to their hard work. I want to thank them for their continued dedication, making us leaders in learning and development.

It’s important that we hear you thoughts and views from around the Group so please send your feedback to the senior team by emailing NorseExchange@norsegroup.co.uk or you can contact any of the team directly, at any time.

SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING

The Learning and Development team have created an online learning resource dedicated to increasing our awareness of how important environmental sustainability is within the workplace. It also covers:

• The impact our actions have on the environment

• Identifying opportunities to apply best practices to our day-to-day activities

• Understanding how you can make a positive change

All employees can access the course as part of Norse Group’s environmental and sustainability commitment. Many of you appreciate the importance of environmental sustainability and protecting our planet for future generations. Login into your Learning Hive or Apollo account today to check it out!

WORK EXPERIENCE

I was pleased to hear that Ella Thomson, a Year 10 student from Reepham High School, is the latest young person to benefit from the Group's two-week work experience placement. Ella is interested in developing a mechanical and electrical engineering career. She has been working with the Norse Consulting M&E Team under the guidance of Steve Buck and other colleagues based at the Aviation Academy in Norwich.

As well as getting to know how M&E engineers design systems and build services infrastructure within Norse Consulting M&E Team, the Norse Group, through the Learning and Development Team, arranged for Ella and other work experience students to visit the Aviation Academy Engineering School to see how aviation mechanical and electrical engineering and maintenance works.

ARE YOU A WASTE WARRIOR?

Keep your eyes peeled as we are days away from launching the Big Tidy Up. Last year our colleagues battled the elements to help collect litter across the UK and keep our local community spick and span. So, dust off that hi-vis jacket and gear up for another 'trashy' event! Keep your eyes peeled for our sign-up form and join our waste warriors.

As always, we would really like to hear from you, so please send your feedback to the senior team by emailing NorseExchange@norsegroup.co.uk, or contact me directly at any time.
