The limited-edition of 150 Egg™ chairs are made to mark the close of a historical year and the beginning of Fritz Hansen’s next chapter. Creating a special collector’s item with one of our most treasured icons designed by Arne Jacobsen is a fitting tribute to the extraordinary legacy of design at Fritz Hansen. The chairs are at once both striking and subtle. The limited-edition design of richly coloured Forest Green Pure Leather is exquisitely paired with the warm copper tones of the star-shape stand.

Arne Jacobsen, 1958

The collaboration between Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. It was not until 1952 however that the team got its breakthrough with the Ant™. It was succeeded by Series 7™ in 1955, thereby enabling both Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen to write their names into furniture history.

MATERIAL

Shell: The shell is molded CombiPUR (RigiPur/hard PUR and FlexiPUR soft PUR), and back is covered with tricot wadding 100g, before the chair is upholstered with textile or leather. The shell of the lounge chair has an adjustable tilt fitting which can be adjusted to the weight of the individual user.

Base: The star-shaped, swivel base consists of black PVD coated metal. The base of the footstool os made of black PVD coated metal. The footstool is without swivel function. The leg ferrules are made in black polyamide.

Shell: The shell of the Egg is made of polyurethane foam with glass fibre reinforcement. The foam for the upholstery and the seat cushion is molded directly onto the hard PUR shell. The tilt mechanism is made of sheet metal, steel tubing and spring steel. The adjustment handle is of polished or powder coated drawn stainless steel. The base consists of a satinpolished or powder coated swivel centre part of welded steel tubing (dia. 38 × 2 mm), a spindle of dia. 28 mm machining steel and a 4-star base in injection moulded aluminium.

The shell of the footstool is made of synthetic material, the foam for the upholstery is molded directly onto the hard PUR shell.

Base: The base is made from a swivel centre part of welded steel tubing mounted on a 4-star base in black PVD coated metal.

Only the finest materials are used in these exquisitely crafted limited-edition pieces. The chair's striking green colour references the green tones on the façade of Arne Jacobsen’s architectural masterpiece, the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Soft-to-the- touch and with a natural grain structure, the material has a visible textured surface particular to each piece. Over time, the natural beauty of the leather will develop as the unique patina emerges.

The distinctive chair features a PVD copper-coloured base created exclusively for the 2023 collector’s edition of the Egg™chair.

ESSAY™

ESSAY™

Essay™ is an exclusive table series in solid wood, created by Danish designer Cecilie Manz. The table consists of three elements - a tabletop and two bases - crafted with refined details. With its elegant look and flexible functionality, the table serves as the ideal gathering point in contemporary spaces.

Table

ENVIRONMENT

Indoor

Cecilie Manz (1972-) was born in the Odsherred region of Denmark. As the child of parents occupied with art and design, the latter always formed a natural part of her life. She chose design as her living when she began studying at the Danish School of Design in 1992. Her great interest for function and conceptualization took her further as an exchange student to Helsinki where she attended the Finnish University of Art and Design. In 1998, a year after she graduated from the Danish School of Design she started her own studio, Manz Lab, the centre of her work ever since.

Cecilie Manz’ strong feeling for functionality and insistence on quality make her an obvious choice for Fritz Hansen. Already, Cecilie Manz has exhibited all over the world and is permanently represented in the exhibitions of MOMA and the Danish Design Centre. She has also taught and been awarded several significant prizes for her conceptual design.
