In HIChAE we strive to bring children different forms of artistic expression and cultural diversity. Through exhibitions, art workshops and creative activities, we seek to awaken and develop a higher sense of sensitivity in young children. With the belief that helping them gain greater insight into the most sensitive form of expression will mean helping create better, more caring, human beings.

Jorge R. Gutierrez
Jorge R. Gutierrez (1975) is a Mexican animator, painter, writer & director who, along with his wife and muse Sandra Equihua, created the multiple Annie & Emmy Award winning animated television series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon. Born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, Gutierrez has completed various films, cartoons, illustrations and paintings exploring his love affair with Mexican pop and folk culture. Gutierrez attended the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received his BFA & MFA in Experimental Animation under Jules Engel. There he created the 3D short Carmelo, which won the 2001 Student Emmy Award in animation and was screened at various festivals around the world, including Kodak’s Emerging Filmmakers Program at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. In 2000, Gutierrez worked under animation legend Maurice Noble, for the art direction of Chuck Jones’ Timberwolf for Warner Bros. In 2001, he began
Jorge Arturo Betancourt “Polanco”, is a Mexican graphic designer, painter, writer and illustrator who during his career has created an unique artistic style that has made him a winner of multiple international awards. Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México (1964), with deep roots in Escuinapa Sinaloa, México, and living in Las Vegas, NV, USA., he considers himself as an everyplace person. Betancourt-Polanco attended the University Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG), where he obtained a bachelor degree in graphic design. He also holds a diploma in “Appreciation of Contemporary Mexican Art” Betancourt-Polanco has been recognized with several Jose Marti awards from the NAHP (National Association of Hispanic Publications) for his work in the design of magazines and newspapers. As an author and illustrator of children’s books, he has obtained international recognition, among those are the “moonbeam Children’s Book Awards” and “Mom’s Choice Awards”. Jorge’s work was also one of the finalists for the “Book of the year” award from ForeWord Magazine. In the area of arts, “Polanco” has had numerous exhibitions in different

As a writer, he’s worked on Scholastic’s Maya & Miguel as well as Disney’s Brandy & Mr. Whiskers. Gutierrez won two Annie Awards (Best TV Animated show & Best TV Character Design) and one Emmy (Best TV Character Design) working on El Tigre. He also created some of the sketches in Cartoon Network’s Mad. Most recently, Gutierrez co-wrote and directed the animated feature The Book of Life for Reel FX and 20th Century Fox. The film was released on October 17, 2014. He earned his first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014.

Jorge has formed part of several organizations of artistic, cultural and social promotion as an integral part and by supporting them with his graphic design and artistic talent. He has been a part of many Organizations among them: Fiesta Las Vegas, Vegas Valley Book Festival, Tacorama, The Festival of Latin Theater of Las Vegas, The Hispanic Museum of Nevada, The Latin Chamber of Commerce, College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, The Mariachi Festival of Las Vegas and the Mexican Consulate in Las Vegas as counsel for the mexican institute of mexicans abroad in the area of art and culture. 20

Nora Siller
Nora Siller is a Mexican painter, and sculptor with a vast array of work, whose unique style and practice has made her a fixture of the art community in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico as well as parts of the American Southwest. Born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico (1956), Siller currently resides in Tucson, AZ. It is through her art practice that she continues to explore her background and the unique heritage that is particular to the state of Sonora. Siller attended the University of Sonora, where her passion for painting led her to explore other art forms and practices, particularly sculpture. Siller has had various solo exhibitions in several cities of the Mexican Republic. Her work has been a part of the Desert Festival in Hermosillo. It has also been seen at the Casa de la Cultura of Hermosillo, Cananea, and Navojoa, as well as the Kiosko del
Carlos Herrera Perez, is the Director of the School of Industrial and Graphic Design at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara UAG (1992-2003 / 2012-Current), with a Masters and Doctorate in Education and two specialties, one in History of Art and one in Photography. In addition to having completed the program Academic Leadership in conjunction with the University of Houston and the UAG and a residency with the Dean of the School of Art at the University of Houston in 1993. Herrera was honored for showcasing excellence in 2006 EDUCON-UAG Born in Cd. De Mexico, in 1963. In 1982 he joined the School of Graphic Design UAG to study a degree in Graphic Design. Throughout his career as a professional in design Herrera worked as a graphic designer at the Department of Planning and Health Promotion in the SSA (Secretary of Social Health and Care. 1982-19870), CEO of Signum Graphic Design and Advertising Advisory (1989-1990), an independent graphic and web designer, and Professor and Lecturer in Graphic Design and Digital Design Advisor.
Arte in Hermosillo. Her portraiture has been sought after by many and has hung in the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, and has was part of a gift exchange between the Mexican Embassy and the Italian Embassy in Trento, Italy. Outside of Mexico, Siller has had work shown at the University of Arizona, as well as MGM Grand and Mirage Hotel of Las Vegas, NV. Most recently, Siller had a solo exhibition at the Center of the Arts hosted by the University of Sonora, and was part of a group show honoring Mexican female artists at the Musas Museo De Arte de Sonora.
In the area of teaching for over 25 years, Herrera has taught several courses at the senior level for undergraduate and graduate degrees in Graphic Design, Interior Design and Landscaping, Communication Sciences, Education, International Marketing, Advertising, Corporate Communications and Architecture in various campuses of the UAG in Mexico. Herrera has expanded its area of professional development in the areas of Strategic Planning, Public Relations, Planning and organizing corporate events, Image and organizational communication strategies generation internal and external communication, development and implementation of Curriculum Development Program Academic and Educational Web Development, among others. Perez Herrera has served as part of the jury in contests for Graphic Design, 3D Design, Editorial Design, Corporate Image Design, Photography and murals.

Lorena Brambila
Lorena brambila is a painter, art teacher, puppet doll designer and scenographer. Born in Tecate B.C. Mexico (1961), she is daughter of Marcos Brambila, a great realist painter and portraitist from whom she inherited some talent. As a little girl, Lorena spent countless hours in her fathers studio, watching how with a few brush strokes and color blends he would give life to an image that at the end seemed almost real, that is how she learned to love the art of painting. Years later, Brambila entered the art school “Taller de Artes Plasticas en Extencion Universitaria de B.C.” with the Painter and Muralist Alvaro Blancarte Osuna. With him, Lorena learned other techniques and although the realistic influence of her father dominated Lorena’s style, she usually leaned towards surrealism. In the nineties she had the opportunity to present
her collection of “Arlequines” in the main cities of Baja California, with other artists from the region. Lorena worked many years developing the forms and characters of puppet dolls and she taught painting classes at a kindergarten in Tecate. Brambila also devoted her free time to designing costumes and making the scenery for modern dance festivals and theaters.
