Adventure begins at Norfolk Public Libraries!

Sonal Rastogi, Director of Libraries

Welcome to a summer of adventure!

We have been hard at work continuing to make our branches a fun, engaging and impactful resource for City of Norfolk residents. We recently added new spaces to some of our branches, such as: collaboration rooms and a new teen space to Park Place Branch Library and the introduction of the Innovation Hub at Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library. The Innovation Hub consists of Norfolk Public Library’s first Memory Lab, where Patrons can now convert files from video tapes, photos, DVDs, CDs, etc., to modern digital formats. Additionally, there’s a Teleservices Kiosk where residents can schedule secure virtual meetings and appointments with local officials, medical service providers and more.

NPL still prioritizes the addition of new spaces throughout our branches,

specifically for teenagers. We believe these areas will greatly impact our community by giving our youth a safe environment where they can cultivate their interests and increase their learning.

We are very excited to reveal the wide variety of programs planned for the summer, for example: our handful of Juneteenth events, the introduction of the Lil’ Flyers Storytimes and Music Around the World programs and, of course, our partnership with Believe in Learning Norfolk with a wonderful kickoff event to start A Summer of Learning.

This event guide has all the information you need to start your summer of adventure with us. There will be a variety of events and programs that foster learning, education and community for you to participate in. The NPL family thanks you for your continued support as we improve our branches and find more ways to be a lifelong learning resource for our community. Also, special thanks to the Friends of the NPL for their generous financial support that benefits the Summer Reading Program.

Warmest regards,
