Greetings from the Headmaster,
As
we approach the end of the 2015-16 school year, we have many opportunities to come together and celebrate in the successes at Norfolk Collegiate. From awards ceremonies to senior project presentations to games, plays and musicals, our spring is filled with events that highlight what it means to be an Oak. Tonight’s event, Night at the Races & Annual Auction, is a great example. Tonight, as we gather together to raise money for the Annual Fund, remember that every dollar raised will directly benefit every student in every classroom in every grade. Because of the generous support of our donors, we are able to provide a great education for our students. The Annual Fund allows us to go “over and beyond” to provide resources to the arts, athletics, academics, technology and professional development. Please enjoy the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, sponsors, advertisers and donors as you bid on the wide variety of baskets, certificates, trips and treasures! We encourage you to bid high and bid often and of course, enjoy your night!

WINE GRAB RULES To participate in the wine grab, guests must purchase a cork for $20 at the wine grab station (please refer to map for station location). We also are featuring a variety of small batch bourbons in the mix! Each cork is numbered and corresponds with a numbered bag. Choose a numbered cork from the basket, and you will win the wine or bourbon with the corresponding number. Of the bottles included, there is a grand prize bottle valued at more than $100. The bottles vary in varietal and price point, ranging from $15 to more than $100. Wine may be picked up at the end of the silent auction.
RESTAURANT ROW “BUY IT NOW” RULES This year we are introducing Restaurant Row in our Bourbon & Bridle entertainment section. We have featured a variety of gift cards and certificates to local dining establishments that can be won by the first bid! Bid sheets for this particular section will include “buy it now” listed prominently on that card with only one line for a bid number. The first and only bid number on that sheet will win that card... no bidding war necessary! All Restaurant Row gift cards and certificates will still be stored at check out. They can be picked up after paying your invoice for the evening.

The silent auction sections will close in 15-minute intervals from 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. As each section closes, bidding ends and bid sheets will be promptly collected by the auction team. Remember to revisit the super silent section and sign-up parties at 9 p.m. to make your final bid before 9:15 p.m. 7. Food stations with heavy hors d’oeuvres and two full bars are open throughout the silent auction in the middle school gym. The food stations and bars will close promptly at 9:15 p.m. when the last silent auction section closes, and all guests will move to the Watt-Baker Gymnasium for the live auction. 8. The live auction begins at 9:30 p.m. in the Watt-Baker Gymnasium. Please be sure to grab a seat and have your bid number in hand! 9. The check-out team will be ready for you at the end of the live auction in the lobby. Purchases may be paid for by cash, check, American Express, Discover, MasterCard or VISA. FUND AN ITEM: THE IDEA WORKSHOP
FUND-AN-ITEM GOAL: $18,000 From coding at the lower school to Destination Imagination in the middle school to Rube Goldberg machinery at the upper school, our students are already “makers.” To better serve our studentexplorers and to allow them the freedom to solve problems through inquiry-based learning, Norfolk Collegiate will develop makerspaces at both campuses to serve as community hubs for innovation for our K-12 learners. Physical locations for creation, these spaces will feature new technology, machinery and furniture where our students can share resources and knowledge, work on projects and learn by doing. Our middle and upper school space will be based in the Leanzo Set Design Studio in the Meredith Center for the Arts. There also will be a space dedicated to our K-5 students at the lower school. With new machinery, including laser cutters, smart sewing machines, microcontroller kits, programmable robotics and more, our students will be able to learn through exploration. The final component in developing these spaces for our school is providing professional development for our Idea Workshop managers and teachers. The entire school community should feel comfortable using these spaces for intellectual and creative exploration and will be urged to utilize the tools and materials to add to the richness of their curriculum. “Fund An Item” is a reverse auction. Our goal is to have 100% participation from every auction-goer here tonight! Through the support of everyone in the room, we will be able to make a HUGE impact in helping our students be the best they can be!
