ALBANY PARK COMMUNITY CENTER
Located in Albany Park, Chicago, just off the Kimball brown lne station, this community center serves as a place for artistic expression for a rich, creative community. The center will foster studio spaces, a gallery, and classrooms, inviting all ages to explore and create. Its exterior design features a concrete exterior detailed with a colorful, living facade. Concrete pockets holding soil among the facade hold blooming flowers to create a live mural, along with a hydroponic garden. The contempory aesthetic of the center contrasts to the animated neighborhood and embraces the train lot located directly behind the building.

Guided Steps
“Guided Steps” is a proposal for a community center specifically designedfor the visually impaired. Located in East Harlem, New York, this building featurestactile paving and lit-up embedded handrails on the walls for easy and accessible movement, giving a sense of directon in the building. The use of CMU screenwallsallows for diffused soft light throughout the building, as well as variation of volumes for distinct spatial recognition. The screenwall also breaks up mechanical sound, giving patrons the ability to hear without echo.
