Carrie Underwood

Nonstop living with Allways Rewards® By Heather Turk

In October, Allegiant announced an exciting collaboration with 8-time GRAMMY® Award winner and current Resorts World Las Vegas headliner Carrie Underwood in support of the company’s Allways Rewards Visa® card and Allways Rewards® loyalty program. nonstoplife recently caught up with the busy country music superstar to talk about the partnership, her hit residency and how this “All-American Girl” is living her best nonstoplife. What is it about Allegiant and Allegiant Allways Rewards Visa® card that made you want to be a part of this collaboration? I grew up in a small town and know what it’s like not to live in a big city. Before Allegiant, a lot of people had to drive two to three hours to get to a major airport. They have really opened up U.S. travel and made it easier for a lot of people to get where they want to go nonstop. What are you the most excited about with this collaboration? I immediately responded to our shared roots and the fact that Allegiant makes air travel affordable and accessible for a lot of folks. I also love that they have a strong ethos of giving back, which has always been important to me in my life and career. For example, since 2012, they have provided flights for almost 2,000 kids and families to Make-AWish destinations across the country. I’m a big fan and supporter of Make-A-Wish, which receives $1 from every ticket sold to my Las Vegas residency, “REFLECTION.” 8

nonstoplife

What does living the nonstop life mean to you? I’m a doer, so I am pretty much on the move from the time I get up until I go to bed at night. I’m a mom of two young boys, so when I’m home, most of my day revolves around them and their activities. My job might be a little different from a lot of other people’s, but like every working mom, I’m always trying to find the balance between life and career. My job takes me to a lot of amazing places and I get to do and see a lot. I definitely live a nonstop life, but I feel so blessed to have it and wouldn’t have it any other way! Where do you like to go on vacation with your family: the mountains, the beach…? I always think the best vacations are near the water, whether it’s a river, lake or ocean. We all love the beach, but the snow is fun, too. And, as much as I cherish those family times and the memories we make together, I also love a trip to the vineyard for some good wine and delicious food, whether it’s with my husband or my girlfriends.

nonstop

ALLEGIANT ALLWAYS REWARDS® You recently extended your “REFLECTION” residency into 2024, much to the delight of fans. What do you love the most about having your own Las Vegas residency? I was honored to be the first artist to perform on the Resorts World Theatre stage in 2021 — that will always be something special. It’s an incredible stateof-the-art theater and I absolutely love performing there. Touring and performing has always been one of my favorite things I get to do in my career. As much as I love being on the road, seeing the world and coming to the fans where they are, it’s also great to be in one place for periods of time and to get to play for audiences who have come from all over the world to see us. Have any updates recently been made to the show? We do tweak things here and there, but essentially it is the show we opened with. “REFLECTION” is designed to be a celebration of my career so far, and we really wanted to highlight all of the greatest hits that people love and have come to expect. Whenever we do a new tour, we always want to find new ways to present familiar songs and that’s definitely the case with “REFLECTION.” Because we’re in one place and not moving the show from city to city, we’re able to include some spectacular effects and set pieces we couldn’t do if we had to load it onto a truck at the end of the night.

Is there a particular number you look forward to doing night after night? Well, that’s really like asking someone to choose their favorite child! I love all of it for different reasons. Of course, it’s great to perform the songs that got me to where I am, like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats,” and I admit it’s pretty fun to set a truck on fire onstage every night! Our “Something in the Water” finale on the water wall is also thrilling to perform — that’s something we could never do in a touring production. That number also feels like crossing the finish line at the end of a marathon, in the best way. Do you expect to incorporate any changes as the show continues? We did recently add the title song from my Denim & Rhinestones album. It’s one of my favorite songs from the album to perform and is definitely reflective of this current time in my career, so we just had to add it to the show. It’s also a big dance moment in the show, which I love but isn’t something I’ve done a lot in the past. And we just might have some more surprises as we go! Speaking of Denim & Rhinestones, what was your inspiration to recently release an updated version of the album? Writing and recording Denim & Rhinestones was such a great experience and we had so much fun throughout the entire process,

I know what it’s like to live in a rural area and not have a lot of options when it comes to air travel. Allegiant has really opened that up for a lot of people.

I love being strong and healthy not just for the way it makes me feel, but it’s what allows me to do all that I do. It’s so important for me to take time for self-care every day...

which was exactly what I think we all needed coming out of the past couple of years. We had so many songs to choose from, there just wasn’t any way to include all of them, and I just wanted to keep the Denim & Rhinestones era going with a deluxe edition. One of the new tracks, “Take Me Out,” was actually written toward the end of the Cry Pretty writing sessions, but it wasn’t the right fit with those songs. The vibe of that song became the inspiration for Denim & Rhinestones, so I’m happy that we held on to it and now she gets a chance to shine. Are you currently working on any new music? I love collaborating with other artists and am always working on something — though I’m very happy living in the Denim & Rhinestones era right now! You are the first female artist with your own year-round 24/7 SiriusXM channel, CARRIE’S COUNTRY. How much fun is that? I love having my own channel on SiriusXM — it’s like my own musical universe and is really a reflection of the kind of music I like to listen to, whether it’s classic or current country, pop, rock or heavy metal. I grew up listening to everything and I have a good time curating 10

nonstoplife

and programming the various shows we do on the channel. This is also your 11th year performing the iconic Sunday anthem that opens NBC’s Sunday Night Football. How do you keep that fresh every year? I’m so honored to have performed the Sunday Night Football show open for 11 years. We always want to change it up and try to top ourselves every year. It’s a great team, and they always deliver something new and different. That shoot is always a fun day. Over the years, you have become almost as well known for your passion for health and fitness as for your performing career. You founded and created the fitness and lifestyle brand CALIA by Carrie Underwood, and your first book, Find Your Path, was an instant New York Times bestseller. You also launched your fitness app, fit52, in 2020. Why is this area so important to you? I love being strong and healthy not just for the way it makes me feel, but it’s what allows me to do all that I do. It’s so important for me to take time for self-care every day, whether it’s a workout, a short walk or just giving my body the fuel it needs to do everything I’m asking it to do. I want to live a long and healthy life for my family. We’ve created an amazing community with the fit52 app — we really listen to the feedback we get and are constantly updating that content. I love sharing what I’ve learned, wherever someone is on their own fitness journey. Finally, now that you’ve been a Las Vegas headliner for a couple of years, what are some other things would you recommend our readers use their Allways Rewards Visa® card on while they’re in town? There’s so much to do in Las Vegas! I’m usually pretty focused on the show when I’m in town, but there are so many great shows I’d love to see. I’m a big foodie and there are so many incredible restaurants in Vegas now — that’s really my favorite thing to do, to go out for a nice meal and a glass of wine or two. Resorts World is a really beautiful new hotel with a lot of great restaurant options. And don’t forget to check out Allegiant Stadium while you’re in town! In recent years, the Las Vegas Strip has begun to challenge New York City for the honor of being the most festive winter vacation destination in the United States. It’s almost impossible to feel anything but jolly when visiting the Strip in December, as it boasts plenty of holiday attractions for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Several shows on the Strip get into the spirit of the season with special holiday-themed performances, like Excalibur Hotel & Casino’s long-running dinner show, “Tournament of Kings.” Running select nights through Dec. 25, “Tournament of Kings: ‘Twas the Knight” lets guests savor a two-course holiday feast that includes roasted Cornish game hen and a handheld cherry pie while listening to merry music and cheering on their favorite king as he battles in festive medieval games. The production also features snow courtesy of the mythical wizard Merlin, resulting in a truly magical holiday experience. excalibur.mgmresorts.com Famed singer, comedian, ventriloquist and “America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator celebrates the holidays with his hit show, “A Very Terry Christmas.” Performing select nights

Everyone is welcome to take photos with Santa at Fashion Show — even pets on select dates!

GRAMMY Award winner LeAnn Rimes will be performing on the Strip this holiday season, too, when “Joy: The Holiday Tour” stops by The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Dec. 15 and 16 at 8:30 p.m. The concert tour features the “How Do I Live” singer performing a mix of holiday songs and her greatest hits, plus tracks from her latest album, “God’s Work.” venetianlasvegas.com Even the Strip’s most iconic free attraction is feeling the holiday spirit, as the Fountains of Bellagio can be seen “dancing” to eight holiday tunes through Dec. 25. The songs rotate with the fountains’ normal tracks and include such classics as “Santa Baby” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” Aside from the merry entertainment, several festive photo opportunities can be found on the Strip, including Las Vegas’ most popular free photo op: the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens’ annual holiday display. This year, the jaw-dropping display will be on view through Jan. 6, 2024. A festive favorite, the display often features playful floral Coca-Cola polar bears 18

Penn & Teller fans may be able to watch new episodes of the hit TV series “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” this winter, but there is nothing like seeing the legendary magicians perform live in Las Vegas. Celebrating their 23rd anniversary at Rio Hotel & Casino Las Vegas Jan. 5, 2024, Penn & Teller hold the distinction of being the Entertainment Capital of the World’s current longest-running headliners for good reason: they always give audiences something new to enjoy. Unlike some shows in Las Vegas that remain the same year after year, Penn & Teller’s record-breaking residency is constantly showcasing new material — like their comical new opener, “Age-Appropriate Escape.” The duo loves creating new illusions so much that they recently signed a contract extension to continue performing at the Rio through the end of 2026 in their namesake Penn & Teller Theater. “We think we have one of the best, if not the best, theater in Las Vegas,” said Penn & Teller in a joint statement to nonstoplife. “We are so happy to continue performing at the Rio, our Las Vegas home for nearly 23 years.” Not only are select audience members

RedTail’s Killer Wings

It doesn’t matter if you’re a hockey fan, a basketball fan or you just want to see the Big Game in February without going to it, Las Vegas has plenty of venues to watch a game that always score high marks with sports fans. SPORTS BARS Almost every resort in town has a sports bar that elevates the game day experience with flavorful fare and plenty of big-screen TVs to watch the action on, like RedTail inside Resorts World Las Vegas. Boasting more than 20 high-definition TV screens throughout the venue, the lively sports bar is known for its free sports-themed games including giant beer pong and an NBA Hoops arcade machine — as well as its generous portions of upscale pub cuisine. Almost everything on the menu is large enough to share, whether you’re ordering the Wisconsin Cheese Curds served with a tasty pineapple aioli topped with chili oil, or some Killer Wings available in 1- to 5-pound portions with your choice of sauce. Three private karaoke rooms are also available to rent for those who want to keep the party going after their team wins. zoukgrouplv.com/redtail

At the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show By Connor McIlveen

For over half a century, Arizona has had many horse aficionados galloping to its arid plains for the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and Shopping Expo. The event has become so synonymous with the city that show-goers regularly refer to the event as the Scottsdale Show. This year, the show runs from Feb. 15-25, 2024, allowing equine enthusiasts the chance to see this magnificent breed in action.

Photos courtesy of the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show

Founded back in 1955 by a host of Arabian horse owners, the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has proven time and time again that the breed is not only smart, but fast and strong. Arabian horse breeders from around the world travel to Scottsdale to showcase their equines. Mares, fillies, stallions, geldings and colts are each showcased not only for the skills in the arena, but for their beauty and grace. In between events some breeders allow for spectators to meet the competing steeds in close-up encounters. Spectators can witness the Arabian horses jump, canter, trot and gallop across the Arizona desert. The magnificent steeds compete in a variety of categories that highlight the unique traits of the breed. The Cow Horse competition provides countless examples of the Arabian horse’s natural aptitude for herding cattle. Competitions in Dressage, English and Western Pleasure Riding showcase the Arabian horse’s manners and intelligence, as rider and horse perform complicated routines throughout the arena. Originally set up on the grounds of the Biltmore Resort, the show has been hosted at WestWorld since 1989. The facility covers

over 386 acres, with 300,000 square feet of exhibit space and 11 arenas, including the Equidome, a climate controlled arena with 3,400 permanent seats. The event boasts over 2,400 horses, over 350 commercial exhibitors and attracts over 300,000 attendees annually, making it the largest Arabian horse show in the world. WHAT TO EXPECT Established in 1971 in Scottsdale by Classic Car Club of America members Russ and Nellie Jackson and their friend Tom Barrett, the auction has gained a reputation over the last 50 years as the place to find the best and rarest automobiles in the world. Barrett-Jackson sold more than 1,900 cars at its 2023 auction in Scottsdale

Lead image by 123RF.com/plantronix; all others courtesy of Experience Scottsdale/Analisa Shah

The Barrett-Jackson car auction, which was founded in Scottsdale, is more than 50 years old

Last year, an early production 1989 Ferrari F40 sold for $2.75 million, and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT with 3,310 miles sold for $1.59 million. A 1966 Shelby Group II Mustang built for British racing great Ken Miles sold for $770,000. Attendees can expect to see similar caliber cars — and prices — at this year’s event. In addition to vehicles, Barrett-Jackson also auctions authentic automobilia (automotiverelated memorabilia), such as the large Ferrari dealership sign that went for $95,450 last year. Other automobilia that crossed the auction block included vintage service station attendant hats, 1940s-era oil product tins, gas pump globes, hood ornaments, automotive posters and numerous tin signs. WATCHING AND BIDDING Guests can watch the action or participate. Bidding requires a bidding badge, plus verified funds to cover any purchases. As a result, it’s not something easily done on a whim. Experienced auction participants suggest making financial arrangements well in advance, reviewing the available cars on the docket and researching prices on eBay

and past Barrett-Jackson auctions before the Scottsdale event. For those who don’t have the funds to bid on a real auction car, Barrett-Jackson offers Fantasy Bid, an online bidding game that allows players to predict how much each car will sell for. Fantasy bidders — even those playing along at the auction — earn points based on how close they come to the winning bid. The top bidder has a chance to win a grand prize like the Dodge Charger awarded in 2023. MORE THAN AN AUCTION There’s plenty to do besides waiting for the auction gavel to fall. Attendees can stroll row after row of exotic, antique, race and muscle cars on display or take a thrill ride in the latest offerings from top automakers. Additionally, they can tour RVs, boats and recreational vehicles as well as shop for auto-related merchandise in the Exhibitor Marketplace. Family-friendly activities will entertain the kids. Up, Up and Tramway Riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway By Connor McIlveen

New visitors to Palm Springs may be surprised to learn that the city is home to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, where tramcars climb the cliffs of Chino Canyon every day, transporting riders from a desert oasis to a rugged and picturesque mountain top in 10 minutes! While most people may think a gondola ride is bumpy and cramped, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has the world’s largest rotating tram cars. The cars glide along the tramway, rotating slowly to provide unparalleled views of the Coachella Valley. In just 10 short minutes, the comfortable cars reach the Mountain Station, nestled in the pristine wilderness of the Mount San Jacinto State Park, at an elevation of 8,516 feet.

adventure center just outside the station. Of course, guests are more than welcome to traipse through the freshly fallen powder and toss a few snowballs instead of barrel down a slope.

Inside the station at the summit, spacious observation decks await eager travelers who still hunger for stunning vistas. Two restaurants, a cafe and bar all serve delicious, affordable, and sometimes portable, food, drinks and more to give fuel to those willing to brave the outdoors.

Tickets, camping information, weather reports and reservations can all be found online. Last year, snow hit the mountains in November and didn’t thaw until mid-May, meaning there’s plenty of time to plan a quick winter escape without ever leaving Southern California. pstramway.com

With over 50 miles of hiking trails, the Mount San Jacinto State Park is one of the best places to experience a pristine and well-conserved natural environment in Southern California. The trails each have their own spectacular sights, but on the San Jacinto Peak trail, a 5.5 mile trek to the second highest point in southern California, the view stretches all the way to Catalina Island on clear days. Winter sports like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also available at the winter

A MUSEUM Discover Napa Valley Museum Yountville’s diverse exhibits By Heather Turk

While many museums cater to a specific interest, Napa Valley Museum Yountville appeals to visitors of all ages thanks to its wide range of engaging exhibits. “Napa Valley Museum Yountville is a mustsee destination for visitors, with exhibitions on art and history to please multiple tastes and generations,” said Laura Rafaty, Napa Valley Museum Yountville’s executive director. “We have become known as a destination for experiencing entertaining and insightful original world-premiere exhibitions, like the current ‘Tiki Dreams: From Far-Away Fantasy to Pop-Culture Phenomenon.’ Visitors also appreciate our permanent history cases — which display the history and geology of the Napa Valley

region, chosen from among the 15,000 items in the museum’s permanent collection — and the many rotating exhibitions in our History and Spotlight Galleries, which often spotlight local history or regional artists.” In addition to learning about how California’s iconic tiki lounges and restaurants inspired a global art and design movement at the “Tiki Dreams” exhibit on display in the Main Gallery through Dec. 31, 2023, visitors to Napa Valley Museum Yountville this winter can check out the “Pollyanna Valley” exhibit in the Spotlight Gallery through Feb. 25, 2024. The exhibit highlights why Walt Disney chose the city of Santa Rosa and the surrounding Napa and Sonoma countryside to represent an idyllic turn-of-the-century Pollyanna: See rare behind-the-scenes photographs from the making of “Pollyanna” at the “Pollyanna Valley” exhibit

town in the 1960 film “Pollyanna.” Then Jan. 27, 2024, guests can learn more about some of the four-legged heroes who have served our country when “Warrior Dogs” opens in the museum’s Main Gallery, showcasing wood sculptures from artist James Mellick’s “Wounded Warrior Dog” project. The two-story Napa Valley Museum Yountville is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission costs just $15 for adults ages 18 to 64, with discounts available for seniors and children. Allegiant celebrates Girls in aviation day

Allegiant sponsors local nonprofit in annual event for the seventh year By Andrew Porrello

For the seventh year, Allegiant served as the premier sponsor of Girls in Aviation Day in Las Vegas. The program, hosted by the nonprofit Women in Aviation International, is an annual event designed to introduce girls to all things aviation. Nearly 300 girls toured an Allegiant airplane and met the women who fly them at an event celebrating Girls in Aviation. The goal of the event is to encourage more girls to pursue the education and experience that will help them achieve these careers. Women currently make up only about six percent of the total pilot workforce in the U.S., and studies show the key to increasing those numbers is to increase the visibility of aviation careers and role models in those fields. Promoting a diverse workforce in aviation and access to STEM education is a key component of Allegiant’s corporate giving program. “Allegiant recognizes the critical need for a diversified workforce and is committed to inspiring young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, specifically aeronautical sciences,” said Sonya Padgett, Allegiant’s director of corporate communications and corporate giving. “Year after year, we’ve been proud to partner with the local chapter of Women in Aviation International

and provide a chance for girls from all walks of life to see and hear from Allegiant’s women pilots, maintenance engineers and crew members about how they achieved their dream of working in aviation.” Allegiant and other businesses from the community partnered with the local chapter of Women in Aviation to offer the girls, ages 8 to 18, a variety of experiences, including touring one of our A320 aircraft. “Allegiant recognizes the critical need for a diversified workforce and is committed to inspiring young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, specifically aeronautical sciences.” Additionally, the girls met and heard from women about their roles. This included pilots, maintenance engineers and Allegiant executives. The women shared their personal stories about their educational paths and experiences in the dynamic world of aviation.
