Buddy V’s Ristorante celebrates 10 years on the Strip

Dreams do come true, just ask celebrity baker Buddy Valastro. The “Cake Boss” star always dreamt of having a restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip and this October his namesake restaurant inside the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. “Our concept was to be Italian-style food that you would get at my house, highlighting the culinary rockstars to me, who were my wife, my parents, my grandparents and my aunts,” Valastro explained when discussing Buddy V’s Ristorante. “When we decided on the menu, we flew the whole culinary team out to New Jersey and we had a five-day culinary cook-off where the chefs worked
with my family. My family told them exactly what they did and the chefs took that, enhanced it a little and that’s our menu.” One of the Strip’s best bets for a delicious lunch or dinner, Buddy V’s is known for its flavorful Italian fare. Several items on the menu are actually named after members of Valastro’s family, like the dish that Valastro said he would start his last meal with: My Wife’s Eggplant Parm. Other signature selections include Nonna’s Lasagna al Forno, which Valastro said brings back memories of his grandmother, Maddalena, making the dish on Sundays “for the whole famiglia,” and The Boss XL Veal Parm Chop, a dinner entrée that’s so tender, you can cut it with a fork. Never one to rest on his laurels, Valastro noted that he plans to revamp Buddy V’s menu to time with the restaurant’s 10th anniversary. However, several signature items will likely remain.

On Nov. 22, Carrot Top will celebrate his 18th anniversary at Luxor Hotel and Casino, although you would never guess that from watching his long-running residency. The iconic comedian steps onstage every night with such a high level of energy, it’s as if he was performing his show for the first time — and in a way, he is.

“I try almost every day to add something new, whether it’s a joke, a prop, a sound effect or a video,” Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, told nonstoplife. “I like that I can see the crowd appreciate the freshness of a topic.” Although best known for his prop comedy, Carrot Top acknowledges that he’s become “more confident” with his stand-up over the years. His Las Vegas residency features a mix of both performed at a rapid-fire pace, barely giving audiences a second to catch their breath before they’re doubled up with laughter again. In recent years, Carrot Top has also started sharing stories about his life and career during the show, much to the delight of fans. “One day I realized I’m not young anymore, so I let the crowd into my life,” Carrot Top said. “I didn’t realize until I started doing that. That was what they really wanted all those years.”

Given Carrot Top’s success since the 1980s, it’s surprising that there aren’t more comedians trying their hand at prop comedy. Not having to pay any concert ticket fees may be great — but not having to pay for a concert at all is even better. A Las Vegas favorite since 2009, Fremont Street Experience’s free Downtown Rocks concert series has evolved over the years, from being a summertime event to an engagement that extends performances into the fall. A concert-going experience unlike any other, the series lets guests see some of their favorite artists perform underneath the glow of the world’s largest linear video screen, Viva Vision, while having SlotZilla’s zipliners fly above them. “Entertainment pricing these days is getting so expensive,” said Paul McGuire, Fremont Street Experience’s chief marketing officer. “Fremont Street Experience is proud to be the hub for hosting the most free entertainment in Las Vegas and excited to be able to put on these free concerts with big-name artists for music fans. Some people don’t have the ability to spend an arm and a leg on concerts, but they’re always welcome on Fremont Street for the same unforgettable experience without the price tag.” Downtown Rocks will definitely live up to its name this Sept. and Oct., with performances by such rockin’ acts as Young the Giant on Sept. 2, Neon Trees on Sept. 16 and Dashboard Confessional on Sept. 23. then conclude Oct. 28 with performances by Fastball and Gin Blossoms. Home to hundreds of the world’s most infamous objects, Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum is not for the faint of heart. “This isn’t a Halloween haunted attraction that we put animatronics and scare actors in — this is a real scare,” said the “Ghost Adventures” host. “These are the items that have affected many lives, and many lives have reportedly been lost to some of these items.” Located in a historic mansion in downtown Las Vegas that was once referred to as the Witch House due to claims of dark rituals taking place in its basement in the 1970s, Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum opened to the public Oct. 2, 2017. Since then, Bagans said almost every day someone who visits the museum is severely affected by one of the supposedly cursed objects on display, 44

from Peggy the demon-possessed doll to the haunted Dybbuk Box. “It’s an interesting experiment, the museum, because like a doctor, I observe everybody who has been affected like patients, and then I classify and diagnose what they were affected by and I group them together,” Bagans stated. “When things start matching up with different people who don’t know each other, and they start having the same symptoms in the same room and seeing the same thing, then that’s really compelling to me that there’s something going on.” In addition to offering two-hour guided tours where guests can see such terrifying items as the real-life Devil’s Rocking Chair that inspired “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” the museum hosts Late Night Flashlight Ghost Tours on select dates that are intended for only the

bravest of souls. Participants can explore the darkened museum for 90 minutes all by themselves, with just a flashlight and paranormal equipment to guide them.

“It’s basically the ultimate thrill for experiencing the museum, but you have to have an understanding of the things that are in the museum, the building itself and know that you could open up yourself to something in that moment because you’re by yourself in the dark,” Bagans said. “Your senses are limited, so it could make you vulnerable if you are sensitive to energies and spirits.” Regardless if someone believes in paranormal activity, the museum is sure to have something that will pique everyone’s interest — and may even turn a few skeptics into believers.

Phoenix may be only 156 years old, but the city has a colorful past filled with tales of jilted lovers, lost fortunes, countless deaths and murders — all the elements of a good ghost story.

ORPHEUM THEATRE Considered one of the most haunted places in Arizona, the opulent Orpheum Theatre dates back to 1929 when it opened as a vaudeville venue. Today, it hosts concerts, theatrical productions and some say several spirits, the most famous of which is Maddie. The apparition has been known to tap people on the shoulder, shush them during performances and appear in photographs.
HERMOSA INN Cowboy artist Lon Megargee built Hermosa Inn himself without blueprints in 1935, and while it was originally his home, he eventually turned it into a guest ranch where he hosted rowdy gambling parties. That ended in 1941 when a contentious divorce forced him to sell. He died 19 years later, and some believe his ghost now haunts Hermosa Inn.
Maddie is also credited with interrupting a Chinese acrobatic troupe’s performance several years ago when she appeared to step off the balcony. Other unnamed ghosts also inhabit the theater, and English rock band Whitesnake was once so unnerved by the Orpheum’s vibe that the group left after only 10 minutes at the venue.
Diners at Lon’s at Hermosa, the boutique hotel’s acclaimed restaurant, report seeing a tall, lanky figure wearing a cowboy hat, and staff claim he causes glasses and beer bottles to fall off the bar. Additionally, a maid supposedly saw a cowboy in the mirror, but when she turned around, he was gone. Megargee isn’t alone either. A female apparition in a pink dress, thought to be one of his mistresses, occasionally appears on the patio. hermosainn.com

The property then went through a string of owners before the city bought it in 1974 and turned it into a museum.

Not long after, in the early 1980s, someone shot a museum caretaker outside the home. It’s said that even though he died, he continues to watch over the property. Visitors hear footsteps on the stairs, see shadows out of the corner of their eye and feel heat emanating from the unused fireplace. The caretaker also locks doors and moves objects around the home. The Altitude Pilot Pathway* based near Denver, Colorado is designed to prepare flight students and instructors to transition from flying training aircraft to heavy jets in as few as two and a half years. The Pathway pairs FAA Part 141 pilot training with customized courses and experiences to prepare you for pilot opportunities at Allegiant. “We are excited to partner with Spartan Education Group to create a proprietary pathway for cadets to train to become Allegiant pilots,” said Allegiant President Greg Anderson. “This partnership provides an important foundation that will allow us to introduce pilot candidates to the unique benefits of flying for Allegiant and support our plans for future growth.” McAir Aviation, owned by Spartan Education Group, LLC provides expertise in training that leverages modern learning practices, proprietary digital resources like the Altitude App, and advanced training content. To prepare for the responsibility of First Officer, Altitude incorporates facilitated leadership training using MaxKnowledge and Harvard ManageMentor. In order to immerse candidates in Allegiant’s unique culture and business model, the pathway affords cadets and CFIs the opportunity to interact with Allegiant executives and leaders. Inspiring Young Minds to Explore Aviation Careers Allegiant partners with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to create aviation-inspired programming

Allegiant wants to help the next generation of aviators get excited and inspired by aeronautical sciences. We know the future of the industry depends on it! That’s why we announced a new partnership with Boys & Girls Club of America. In May, we pledged $1 million to the organization to develop aviation-inspired programming to reach youth across the country.
Additionally, the partnership includes a fundraising campaign to match donations made by individuals who make a new monthly pledge or increase a current pledge amount. Through this matching program, Allegiant plans to create twice the impact, all year long. This ensures kids at every stage of development have resources they need to succeed academically.
To celebrate the partnership, Allegiant hosted over 20 Club kids from ages 9 to 18 at their West Coast training center in Las Vegas. The kids got the unique opportunity to interact with pilots and other aviation professionals, tour the airline’s mock cabin trainer, and fly an Airbus flight simulator. The equipment is used to train Allegiant crew members before they begin flying with the airline.
Promoting STEM education with an emphasis on careers in the aeronautical sciences is one of our core pillars of corporate giving. The airline plans to host experiential activities and offer mentorship opportunities in multiple cities across the country. Through this partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Allegiant aims to engage children of all ages to empower and inspire them to pursue careers in aviation.

As you fly the skies, you’ll see a few of them celebrating our partnerships: the Vegas Golden Knights, EDC, Raiders and Make-A-Wish. But now you’ll see one dedicated to the most important group, our Team Members. We asked our Team Members to share a few words about what it’s like working at Allegiant. Thousands of them responded with what being #AllegiantProud means: safety, fun, success, adventure, bold, thriving, amazing, limitless, trustworthy, welcoming… and many, many more! These words represent our culture, our brand, and each of member of our team – which is why they make the perfect tribute

When you see the plane in person, you’ll notice the blue section includes a backdrop of all the words that came from — and represent — our amazing team. New liveries are something we don’t take lightly in the aviation industry. Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.
CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS
Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.
PHOTOS & VIDEOS ONBOARD
The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.

Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.

Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector.
