Remarkable restaurant additions foodies won’t want to miss By Heather Turk

The dining scene in Las Vegas continues to impress thanks By Heather Turk to several delectable restaurant additions that are all worthy contenders for “Dining Experience of the Year.” LPM AT THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS Known for using Mediterranean ingredients, LPM is a striking French Riviera-inspired restaurant guaranteed to take taste buds on a culinary journey they will never forget. Nothing on the dinner menu disappoints, from the homemade rigatoni pasta with cream and seasonal mushrooms to the marinated lamb cutlets made with olive, aubergine caviar and pine nuts. Even the cocktails — inspired by the life of French artist Jean Cocteau — are sublime, particularly the refreshing caprese-like Tomatini. lpmrestaurants.com/lasvegas LUCHINI AT MGM GRAND The New York inspired Luchini is a classic Italian American restaurant with its own craft cocktail speakeasy (Chez Bippy) serving a variety of delightful dishes for dinner. Guests can start their meal with the giant braised beef and fontina Arancini Genovese before savoring such scrumptious pasta selections as the Short Rib Lasagna Pinwheels or one of the house specialties like the Grilled Branzino. For diners in a rush, there’s also an adjacent pizza parlor serving slices for lunch and dinner. taogroup. com/venues/luchini-restaurant-las-vegas

PETER LUGER STEAK HOUSE AT CAESARS PALACE A New York staple since 1887, Peter Luger Steak House is a legendary restaurant famous for its on-site dry-aged steaks, served to each table sizzling in butter. Diners can relish the rich cuts of USDA Prime beef with Peter Luger’s signature sauce, which also pairs perfectly with the Luger-Burger that’s available exclusively for lunch. A blend of USDA Prime ground chuck and dry-aged steak trimmings, the half-pound burger is easily one of the juiciest hamburgers foodies will ever taste. THE QUEEN OF COUNTRY POP RETURNS By Heather Turk

This May, the top-selling female country artist of all time will return to the Las Vegas Strip to kick off an all-new residency. Performing inside Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, “Shania Twain: COME ON OVER — The Las Vegas Residency — All The Hits!” will be the third Las Vegas residency for the country music icon. The production follows the success of “SHANIA: STILL THE ONE” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and “Let’s Go!” at the then-named Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. “From one residency to the next, I’m learning more and more about my own potential in art direction and production,” Twain told nonstoplife. “I feel as if I’m growing artistically with each one and, as with my other residencies, ‘COME ON OVER’ will be yet another level of my creative direction.”

Since Twain starts from scratch with each production and begins technical talks very early on in the creative process, she noted that it takes about nine months to create a Las Vegas residency. Rehearsals typically begin three weeks before opening night, although the talent will receive “individual homework” weeks before that — including her. “I would get bored always doing the same show,” Twain said. “My shows’ song lists are primarily the hits, so that’s the staple. The rest needs to be fun for me and fun means getting creative. Change is a must outside of playing the hits. It’s what keeps me challenged and motivated.” With “COME ON OVER,” Twain plans on showcasing many new elements, from the musical arrangements to the visuals. One thing that won’t change, however, is the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer interacting with her fans. Twain plans on continuing to have several audience interactions during each performance, including taking song requests each night. “Audiences can always count on intimate moments in my shows and ‘COME ON OVER’ will be no exception,” Twain said “I so enjoy connecting with the audience and getting to know the different crowd personalities from one night to the next. The interaction is spontaneous, and it allows me the freedom to enjoy them more personally.”

Twain said that being back in Las Vegas and getting to ride her horses in the open desert is “magical”

David Blaine gets closer to his fans with new residency, ‘IMPOSSIBLE’

By Heather Turk

When David Blaine launched his latest Las Vegas residency, “David Blaine: IMPOSSIBLE,” over New Year’s Eve weekend, he invited his daughter Dessa to come onstage one night to finish his final card trick. The proud papa watched on with tears in his eyes, a fitting moment considering that Blaine wouldn’t have been onstage himself if it wasn’t for the support of his own parent. “I was six years old and I’d do a simple trick, and my mother would go running away screaming, just amazed by anything I was doing,” Blaine recalled. “Her reaction was probably what made me want to build a show that has great reactions.” Returning to Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas March 27, 29 and 30 and May 8, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m., “IMPOSSIBLE” is the

show that Blaine said, “everybody who knows me well wants me to do.” While the production still has plenty of death-defying elements, like when Blaine holds his breath underwater for several minutes, Blaine takes advantage of the intimate 1,480-seat setting by performing a great deal of magic that’s interactive with the audience — including pieces he’s never performed before. “The theater gives me the ability to do some of the things I’ve wanted to do that I haven’t had the chance to do yet,” Blaine said. “If people get there early, I’m actually running around in the balcony meeting people before the show begins. That’s what I love about this theater — that I really get to interact with everyone as much as possible. That audience interaction is not only what keeps things fresh for Blaine each night, but also ensures that no two performances of “IMPOSSIBLE” are ever the same.

During the Dec. 30, 2023, performance, singer Demi Lovato and her fiancé Jordan Lutes assisted Blaine with one of his more dangerous tricks

“Every night is a unique experience, which hopefully is something that people won’t ever forget,” Blaine concluded. wynnlasvegas.com nonstoplife

A CONSTANT STATE OF EVOLUTION

Acclaimed off-Strip attraction AREA15 welcomes change

Photo of Inside AREA15 by Peter Ruprecht; Kaia Handroll by Eric Roberts

By Heather Turk

One of Las Vegas’ most popular attractions isn’t located on the Strip or even downtown, but rather just minutes from Las Vegas Boulevard on Rancho Drive. The world’s first purpose-built immersive entertainment district, AREA15 has welcomed more than 5 million visitors since opening its doors in 2020. Home to several distinct attractions, interactive art installations and unique shops, bars and restaurants, AREA15 has “completely transformed the concept of immersive entertainment in Las Vegas” according to its chief executive officer, Winston Fisher. The 390,000-square-foot destination only continues to evolve, too, thanks to several recent additions that give repeat guests something fresh to enjoy. In November, the anchor tenant of AREA15 — Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart — unveiled two remarkable new art-filled spaces. The surreal grocery store invites shoppers to explore

Kaia Handroll, AREA15’s newest eatery, opened last June

themed areas and unique environments featuring innovative works of art from international and local artists, including new works by Las Vegas artists Gail Gilbert and Mila May. Gilbert’s “Rhampa” is a handmade diorama that’s visible when curious shoppers open an unlocked icebox and stick their head in, while May’s “Daydream” is a colorful threedimensional space that surrounds guests with an otherworldly landscape. - Continued on next page nonstoplife

Another new addition to AREA15 that’s simply out of this world can be found at Illuminarium Las Vegas. The 360-degree sensory experience added images taken from the James Webb Space Telescope to its “SPACE: A Journey to the Moon & Beyond” show last May, so guests can experience some of the extraordinary cosmic views taken from the largest and most groundbreaking telescope ever built in stunning 4K.

See the moon like never before at Illuminarium’s “SPACE: A Journey to the Moon & Beyond”

AREA15 welcomed several other additions in 2023 as well, including The Wall, an intimate multipurpose event venue that features a large LED video wall as its focal point, and Kaia Handroll, a sushi eatery that features water-inspired décor and a wall of AIgenerated artwork depicting powerful female characters. It also rebranded its two-story Emporium Arcade Bar to the Asylum Bar + Arcade, and now welcomes guests younger than 21 for the first time to play the arcade games located on its ground floor until 9 p.m. AREA15 will soon welcome back the popular “Army of the Dead: Viva Las Vengeance” virtual reality experience, too. Based on the Netflix original film “Army of the Dead” by Zack Snyder, the attraction invites guests to put on a VR headset and take on the role of a mercenary as they fight their way through hordes of zombies. Previously a temporary attraction, the mixed reality experience will become a permanent addition to AREA15 in March. Springtime also marks the return of one of AREA15’s most beloved multi-venue Massive parties: the “Alice in Wonderland” themed We’re All Mad Here. The ticketed event includes entry into AREA15, live performances across multiple stages and venues, spirited performers and characters, and interactive art and photo installations. Unlike previous years when guests had to be 21 years old or older to attend one of AREA15’s Massives, partygoers now only must be 18 or older.

Gail Gilbert’s new “Rhampa” exhibit at Omega Mart is made with papier-mâché, chrome and mirrors

Although many of the experiences at AREA15 are constantly evolving, visitors will have plenty of new experiences to enjoy in 2025, as AREA15 broke ground last year on a major expansion project. The all-new AREA15 District will be home to even more immersive destinations, including a year-round horror entertainment experience inspired by Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.

Inside AREA15’s main building

“AREA15 is ramping up for a monumental 20-acre expansion in Las Vegas,” Fisher stated. “We’re talking about the addition of so many world-class experiences — such as Universal Horror Unleashed by Universal Parks & Resorts and iFLY Indoor Skydiving — all in one place. The evolution of AREA15 will continue to push the boundaries of immersive entertainment to create even more unforgettable and exciting moments for visitors in Las Vegas.” Until then, visitors will have no problem being entertained at AREA15, which already has so much to enjoy it’s impossible to experience everything in one visit. Guests can get a taste of some of the many exciting experiences AREA15 has to offer with an Experience Pass, which grants visitors access to some of AREA15’s signature attractions, like its psychedelic art house Wink World: Portals into the Infinite, or its light and sound spectacle Museum Fiasco, for one low price. Visitors can even get a bird’s-eye view of the heart of AREA15 while riding Haley’s Comet, the world’s first dual-track rollglider that’s located in AREA15’s main building. AREA15 is open daily to guests of all ages. Starting at 9 p.m., guests must be 21 years of age or older to visit. area15.com

Hypnotist Kevin Lepine knows how important it is to have the support of others.

how he wouldn’t be where he is today without others supporting him.

As the host of “Hypnosis Unleashed,” currently playing Tuesday through Saturday inside Four Queens Hotel & Casino, Lepine has relied on audience members volunteering to star in his show for the past 13 years. Guests put their trust in Lepine not only to keep them safe onstage, but also to not embarrass them as Lepine guides them through various comical scenarios — from communicating with each other in an alien language to thinking they are professional wrestlers. His ability to make volunteers feel like Las Vegas superstars has resulted in “Hypnosis Unleashed” becoming the city’s longest-running hypnosis show, and it’s a feat Lepine knows he could have never accomplished alone.

“My journey has been nothing short of amazing,” Lepine stated. “I was able to build an amazing community around me, and I wanted to share that with others so they can grow as well.”

Last November, after almost five years of planning and a year of writing and editing, Lepine released his autobiography, “Deep into My Eyes: From Victim to Vegas Headliner.” Available on Amazon, the 216-page book reflects on the many hardships Lepine overcame in his life — including addiction, abuse and depression — and

Lepine’s book gives fans a lot of insight into “Hypnosis Unleashed” and how it was developed Although Lepine realized while writing his life story that there were several times in the past where he missed the opportunity to help someone else, he hopes his book — just like “Hypnosis Unleashed,” which always ends with a message of positive growth — can make a positive impact on others. “There are ways out of bad situations and bad times,” Lepine concluded, “and I hope people can use this book to achieve their goals and help build positive communities around themselves.” vegashypnosisshow.com

Unique cocktails in Downtown Las Vegas By Yvonne Newman

Expect nothing short of exceptional when it comes to the mixology at work in downtown Las Vegas. From whimsical outdoor casino bars and independent craft cocktail joints to clandestine speakeasies, the drinking scene is among the city’s coolest and most creative. “We encourage originality, unique flavor combinations and a lot of personality to shine through,” said Christina Dylag, who opened Velveteen Rabbit with her sister Pamela on Main Street in the Arts District in 2013. One recent example is the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a magical mix of seaweedinfused rum, cachaça, house matcha-coconut falernum, pandan liqueur, lime, coconut crème and nutmeg fog. PHOENIX

Macayo’s is known for its chimichanga, an item the restaurant says it invented

MOUTHWATERING MEXICAN By Teresa Bitler

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo year-round at iconic Mexican restaurants

Mexican restaurants have always flourished in Phoenix, but most come and go. That’s not the case with a few local favorites that have celebrated Cinco de Mayo in the Valley for decades. MACAYO’S Opened in 1946, Macayo’s claims to have invented the chimichanga although El Charro Café in Tucson argues its founder was the first to deep fry a burrito. Nevertheless, Macayo’s was the driving force behind recognizing September 26 as National Chimichanga Day, and it helped popularize the cheese crisp, a butter-based tortilla toasted in the oven and topped with melted cheese. Both items are a must on a first visit to any of the restaurant’s 13 Valley locations. Other house specialties include Macayo’s green chile pork stew and hand-dipped relleno, an Anaheim chile stuffed with jack cheese, dipped in batter, deep fried and topped with your choice of red or green sauce. Enjoy with a prickly pear margarita, signature margarita or a margarita flight. macayo.com THE ORIGINAL CAROLINA’S MEXICAN Located at 1202 E. Mohave, this Mexican restaurant has dished up traditional southof-the-border flavors since 1968. Guests come for breakfast burritos in the morning, machaca burritos during the day and handmade tortillas to go anytime during operating hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s nothing fancy: guests queue up to order meals at a counter, the food is served in Styrofoam containers and the decor is sparse. But the restaurant’s homestyle cooking and affordable prices make it a Phoenix favorite. carolinasmexicanfood.com

The Original Carolina’s Mexican serves local favorites like chorizo and potatoes, often with fresh, handmade tortillas on the side

Red chicken taquitos feature Macayo’s flavorful red chile corn tortillas

TEE PEE MEXICAN FOOD Known for its souffle-like chile rellenos, Tee Pee Mexican Food serves a wide variety of Mexican favorites, including cheese and onion enchiladas, the meal President George W. Bush ate when visiting. The menu includes authentic tacos, burritos, chimichangas, tostadas and cheese crisps. Can’t decide? Tee Pee encourages diners to combine two or three items from a list for a combination platter. Families dining at Tee Pee will appreciate the kids’ options while less adventurous eaters can enjoy non-Mexican items like burgers and chicken soup. The restaurant also has daily lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and happy hours specials, Monday through Friday, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. teepeemexicanfood.com nonstoplife

TOP TRAILS TO TAKE IN THE VIEWS Take a hike this spring in Mesa, Gilbert and Queen Creek

Photo of Wind Cave courtesy of Visit Mesa; San Tan Trail sign and park by Foskett Creative

By Kate Wallace

With wildflower season at its peak in early March and saguaro blossoms ready for their debut in late April, this is the perfect time of year to head out into the wilderness for some stunning views. Located within Mesa’s city limits is Usery Mountain Regional Park. This 3,648-acre park shares its landscape with the Tonto National Forest and is one of the most user-friendly parks in the area. The most popular hike here is the Wind Cave Trail, offering a decent workout and a chance to look out over the entire Phoenix valley. The granite-lined trail will weave guests through giant boulders and serves up many opportunities for a ‘Saguaro selfie’. The 1.5-mile (one way) trail leads hikers to the top of a wind-carved open-air cave that is perfect for a picnic and rest before heading back down the mountain. Be sure to stop by the Nature Center for any last-minute provisions and helpful tips from their staff before heading to the trailhead. maricopacountyparks.net Gilbert’s 110-acre Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch offers ground-level hiking through their maze of seven lakes that serve as water recharge

basins. The wetland habitat is a bird-lovers paradise and angler’s dream, with a fully stocked lake for urban fishing. Early morning hikers are guaranteed a wildlife display with almost 300 species of birds identified on the site. There are 4.5 miles of trails at the preserve along with interpretive education stops staged throughout the connected pathways. Rangers oversee gardens for pollinators and hummingbirds, and little ones love the paleontology dig site. The preserve is also an Autism Certified Center and offers an online sensory guide perfect for planning ahead. gilbertaz.gov/parks In Queen Creek, visitors have access to the Sonoran Desert at the 10,000-acre San Tan Regional Park. For a short journey, opt for the Stargazer or Littleleaf trails, both under a mile in length. For half-day hiking, visitors flock to the Goldmine Trail. This shared-use path is 2.5 miles (one way) with vegetation change throughout, from creosote flats to dense cactus forest as you climb up the mountainside. maricopacountyparks.net You can find all additional hiking trail information and ‘before you go’ tips online. visitmesa.com

WISH COME TRUE

Allegiant Grants Teens Wish to Become a Pilot for a Day By Andrew Porrello

When Allegiant learned of 14-year-old Ben’s wish to be a pilot, our employees teamed up with Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada to make his dream come true. We flew Ben and his family from Reno, Nevada to Las Vegas, and he didn’t have to wait long before being welcomed by the crew. The pilots enlisted his help in preparing the aircraft for departure, showing him how they conduct their pre-flight checks, including an inspection of the exterior of the plane. Ben spoke to Air Traffic Control, requesting clearance for departure, and then it was wheels up to Las Vegas. After arriving, Ben headed to our West Coast Training Center where dozens of Allegiant employees gathered to celebrate our newest pilot. “We’ve been partners with Make-A-Wish since 2012 and have flown more than 2,000 kids and their families to their wish destinations, so we understand the transformational power of a wish,” said Gregory Anderson, Allegiant president. “But this is the first time we’ve had the honor of actually granting a child’s wish. Our team members wanted to create an unforgettable experience for Ben, and I believe they succeeded.” After receiving his pilot’s wings and uniform, Ben joined two Allegiant captains in the flight deck of the company’s full-motion Airbus simulator, where he “flew” his first flight to Reno, Nevada with his father and sister along for the ride. After the flight deck doors closed, the Allegiant captains gave Ben the same treatment a pilot-in-training receives, turning

over the controls to him and teaching him how to take off, steer the aircraft and land. “They say it takes a village to raise a child, but we know it takes a community to grant a wish,” said Scott Rosenzweig, Make-AWish Southern Nevada president and CEO. “Allegiant Air continues to walk beside us in giving the prescription of hope for children with critical illnesses and provides us our home here at Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada. And when we found out Ben’s wish, we only had one team in mind, Allegiant. They not only make our kids’ wishes come true but ours too!” Allegiant became a national partner to MakeA-Wish in 2012. Since then, the company has donated more than $7 million to the organization through in-kind flights and sponsorships. Allegiant’s partnership with Make-A-Wish extends beyond wish flights. In 2017, the airline donated office space at its Las Vegas headquarters to Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada. This allows the nonprofit to reduce its administrative costs, dedicating those funds instead to wish fulfillment. Allegiant also donates $1 from every Wingz Snack Packs sold in-flight to Make-A-Wish and is the presenting sponsor of the annual Walk for Wishes event in Las Vegas. nonstoplife

Celebrating the Holidays

Allegiant team members connect, serve and share through the season By Andrew Porrello

Each holiday season there is magic in the air at Allegiant. While a special part of the holiday season is helping our customers travel to and from their destinations, another is enjoying time with our Team in true Allegiant fashion. From parties to donation drives, here’s a glimpse into how we celebrate behind the scenes! With over 6,000 Team Members spread across the nation, we love the unique opportunity to get together in person. Allegiant organized bi-coastal holiday parties for Team Members to dress up, catch up, and celebrate with colleagues from near and far. Over 2,000 Team Members attended our West Coast party in Las Vegas, and over 1,500 Team Members attended our East Coast party in Clearwater, Florida. Being a part of the Allegiant Team goes beyond shared celebrations; it also means having the opportunity to give back. Each November and December, our Culture & Engagement team hosts an Annual Donation Drive. In 2023, over 30 teams worked diligently to gather food, supplies, clothing and more to contribute to their local nonprofits. The teams who collected the most donations received a party of their choice to celebrate their passion and dedication. One of our core values is being Biased for Action, and part of that means Team Members are empowered to create what we call “Network Groups.” These groups serve as a space to gather, educate other Team Members and provide a platform for discussions on topics that resonate with and are impactful to them. These Network Groups work with our Diversity & Inclusion Council and advance

the visibility of Team Members, while also increasing awareness and encouraging a sense of belonging for all. This winter, we hosted a special brunch on both the East and West Coast for members of these eleven groups to network and learn about each other’s mission. Prioritizing Team Member connections, actively engaging in community service and embracing educational opportunities are the driving forces behind our culture. We look forward to welcoming you on board again, inviting you to experience firsthand the contributions of each invaluable Allegiant Team Member. Together We Fly! nonstoplife
