Quench your thirst in Historic Downtown Sanford

The Historic Sanford Information Center, centrally located at 230 E. 1st Street, is the hub for all things Sanford and the perfect place to start your explorations. Get the scoop on local businesses, restaurants, events and activities.

Head out onto picturesque 1st Street, the center of Historic Downtown Sanford, and immerse yourself in the exciting history of the steamboat days. One of Central Florida’s oldest cities is well-known for its brick lined streets, towering oaks, elegant storefronts and large, 19th century Victorian homes.

Explore the flourishing arts scene with world-class murals and specialty art galleries and gift shops; browse antique and collectible boutiques for that one-of-a-kind treasure; dine at awardwinning restaurants; and enjoy numerous craft breweries and gastropubs.

Sanford sits on the southern shore of beautiful Lake Monroe. The Riverwalk, with its gazebos and swinging benches, offers several miles of pedestrian walking and biking paths. Along the way, visit Veterans Memorial Park, Marina Island, Fort Mellon Park and the Sanford Museum or take a dinner cruise on the Barbara-Lee, an authentic sternwheeler.

Sanford is also home to popular monthly events. The Alive After 5 Street Party, Central Florida’s longest running street festival, is held the second Thursday of every month. Enjoy amazing eats on the second Sunday at the Sanford Food Truck Fiesta. The elegant Sanford Art & Jazz Night is held every third Thursday, and the Sanford Avenue Merchants present the Sanford Avenue Block Party on the fourth Saturday. Visitors can explore the colorful Sanford Farmers Market every Saturday morning. Be sure to attend a production at Sanford’s historic community theater, The Ritz Theater at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center, celebrating its 100th anniversary.

A fun and social way to experience Historic Sanford is on the Limo Cycle, a 15-passenger pedal powered bike led by a trained driver. Or, choose a foodie adventure with Sanford Food Tours, a delectable, walking culinary journey with a local guide. historicdowntownsanford.com
