minutes and not a second more. Add the remaining ingredients. In goes the milk, heavy cream, alcohol, and nutmeg. Then blend for another 10 seconds. Let it chill then serve. Pour the eggnog into a sealed container and refrigerate it until it’s nice and chilled. This will help the flavors meld together and it will thicken up as well. Once it’s cooled, give it another stir, pour it into glasses, sprinkle a little nutmeg on top and serve!

CULINARY CORNER | ORANGE CAKE PREP TIME: 25 minutes COOK TIME: 45 minutes TOTAL TIME: 1 hour 10 minutes
5 Eggs 1 ¼ cup Granulated sugar ½ teaspoon Kosher salt 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract ¾ cup Vegetable oil 2 tablespoon Orange zest 1 cup Orange juice 2 ¼ cups Flour 2 teaspoon Baking powder
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 320F and prep a 9-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Carefully separate the egg whites from the egg yolks and pour the egg whites to a stand mixer with a balloon attachment and gradually add the sugar over medium speed. Whip the mixture on high speed until the mixture is light and fluffy. You want stiff peaks in this mixture. Add the orange juice, egg yolks, orange zest, vanilla extract, kosher salt, vegetable oil, and mix over low speed until combined. Add the flour and baking powder and mix until there are no flour lumps visible. Pour the batter into a parchment paper lined 9 inch round baking pan and smooth it out using a spatula. Bake at 320F preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Top the cake with as much powder sugar as you would like, we like to top it with thin slices of orange and mint leaves.

or 8-inch log, about 2.5 inches in diameter. The measurements don’t have to be exact. Tightly wrap the dough logs in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours and up to 5 days. Chilling is mandatory for this cookie dough. I prefer to chill mine overnight; the orange flavor really comes through the longer this dough sits!
1. Optional rolling in sugar: Pour enough coarse sugar on an 8-inch or larger plate to cover it. Roll the logs in the sugar. You may need to really press the dough logs down into the sugar if it’s not really sticking. (I find coating the dough logs in sugar after chilling much easier, as the dough is too sticky to neatly roll in sugar right after mixing.) 2. Slice each dough log into 12 equally thick cookies and arrange cookies on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. 3. Bake the cookies for 13–15 minutes or until very lightly brown around the edges. Remove from the oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. 4. Icing: Whisk the confectioners’ sugar and orange juice together. Drizzle over cooled cookies. Feel free to top each with more orange zest while icing is still wet. The icing sets after 30–60 minutes, so you can easily store, stack, and transport the cookies. 5. Cookies will stay fresh covered at room temperature for up to 1 week.

HOME & GARDEN | NEW PETS
NEW PET, WHO’S THIS! Holiday Edition Choosing a pet as a holiday gift is a wonderful gesture, but it demands thoughtful consideration. First, adopt from shelters to give a deserving animal a loving home. Before surprising someone with a pet, ensure they are ready for the commitment – pets are lifelong companions. New pet owners should prioritize a seamless transition. Regular veterinary care, balanced nutrition, and a secure environment are essential. Avoid impromptu decisions; make sure you're equipped for the responsibilities of pet ownership. A new pet can be an exciting experience, you may forget about simple foods that could be harmful. Steer clear of dangerous foods like chocolate, grapes, onions, and alcohol, as they can be harmful to both cats and dogs. Opt for safe and enjoyable treats during the holidays. Dogs might appreciate plain, cooked meats or vegetables, while cats might enjoy a bit of plain cooked chicken.
