With its Victorian architecture and iconic clock tower, Newberry Opera House (NOH) has become a cultural cornerstone in the community. Over the past 25 years, it has hosted a diverse range of performances, featuring Grammy® winners, world-renowned artists, and local talents. NOH's impact extends beyond entertainment, revitalizing the local economy and fostering partnerships with the city, schools, and arts community. As a nonprofit organization, the Opera House serves as a venue for public meetings, school performances, and opportunities for local artists. Through initiatives like Newberry Arts for All (NAFA), it promotes inclusivity with free concerts, ticket scholarships, and community programs. As NOH celebrates this milestone, it looks with gratitude to its generous donors and the Newberry Opera House Guild. Looking ahead, NOH remains dedicated to preserving and promoting the arts, continuing to inspire the community for generations to come.
Our season brochure cover art is a painting done by artist Mark Conrardy, during Newberry Arts Center's Plein Air event. Prints are available for purchase at the Newberry Arts Center.
Doug and Bunny Williams have been producing shows since the very beginning when NOH opened in 1998. Their presentations are characterized by a broad variety of music—from Bluegrass and Western Swing, to Jazz, Classical, Broadway, and Opera. Their contribution to this organization and impact on our community is unparalleled.
It's hard to believe that we are commemorating the 25th anniversary this season! This brochure is a nod to the very first season, featuring many shows that helped build Newberry Opera House's reputation as a world-class performing arts venue, and we hope it finds you filled with as much anticipation and excitement for this year's lineup. As Executive Director, it is my pleasure to help introduce you all to a world of captivating music, mesmerizing performances, and unforgettable experiences.
Wow! What an adventure it has been to experience the impact this institution has had on the region’s residents. For over a century, Newberry Opera House has remained an integral part of our community since its establishment in 1882. The restoration efforts in the 1990s sparked an economic revival and positioned Newberry as an eminent arts hub and a favored destination for art enthusiasts. Newberry Opera House knows that performing arts matter, and our priority is to ensure that our institution will continue to thrive and remain a cornerstone for cultural and economic development for all of our community. This wouldn't be possible without the tireless efforts of our staff, volunteers, board, and the devoted support of our patrons.
At this milestone, we think of where we have been, and we look forward to the next chapter and can only continue to build our resources and grow our impact for the next stage of the journey.
We can’t wait to see you all soon for our 25th Season Opening!

Americana/Bluegrass music world. Despite changes in their lineup over the years, The SteelDrivers continue to tour and perform their unique brand of Contemporary Bluegrass to audiences around the world. As the band prepares for their highly anticipated performance at the historic Newberry Opera House, let's take a closer look at their remarkable career and continued impact on the music scene. The SteelDrivers were formed in Nashville, Tennessee by a group of seasoned musicians who shared a deep love for traditional Bluegrass music. The original lineup included Chris Stapleton (vocals, guitar), Mike Henderson (mandolin), Tammy Rogers (fiddle), Richard Bailey (banjo), and Mike Fleming (bass). Their self-titled debut album, released in 2008, quickly gained critical acclaim and introduced the band's unique sound to a wider audience. Tammy Rogers says, “Mike Henderson, our original mandolin player, is really the guy responsible for getting the band together. He is the one that knew everyone and made the calls to get everybody together at his house for an informal night of playing some bluegrass tunes! I had no idea at the time that he and Chris Stapleton, our original lead singer and guitarist, had been writing together for four to five years at that point and had already amassed an incredible catalog of great songs.”

Jessica Vosk
May 11, 2024 // 8pm
Jessica Vosk is a Tony® -nominated actress and singer known for her powerful vocals and dynamic performances. With a background in musical theater and a career that spans both stage and screen, Vosk has established herself as one of the most exciting and versatile performers of her generation. Whether she's belting out showtunes or singing heartfelt ballads, Vosk's performances are always electrifying and captivating.
Her journey to Broadway was not a conventional one. She initially pursued a career in finance, seeking to impress others rather than following her true passion. Overcoming fear and uncertainty, she embarked on a path that would allow her to pursue her true passion for performing.
Well, the journey was a very unusual one, which is why I like to remind students and even adults looking to pivot that there is no solid path to success...whatever that word might mean to you."
Throughout her career, Vosk has portrayed iconic roles that have left audiences spellbound, including Elphaba in "Wicked". Drawing from her own life experiences, she connects deeply with the emotions and struggles of the characters she portrays, creating a powerful and relatable experience for audiences.
Vosk explains, “With Elphaba, specifically, and other roles I’ve gotten the chance to take on, I need to connect to them with my own life experience. For Elphaba it meant what it feels like to be bullied—there was no shortage of that for me in grade school, and I knew that was something I could tap into. That, and coming into my own power when I realized, I had a voice.”
