I was born in Barberton, Ohio- a small town of just under 30,000 people. When I was nine, my parents made a brave decision to build a life with more sunshine and fewer harsh winters. They packed up our home and moved us (my sister and me) all the way across the country to Santa Barbara, California.
Living just steps from the Pacific Ocean in the 1970s felt magical. I fell in love with our new home instantly. I embraced every part of becoming a California girl—from celebrating Fiesta days, to surfing in Santa Barbara, to eventually following my passion for fashion design to Los Angeles. LA is where I met my husband, Lonnie, and where the idea for our family company first took shape.
In the 1980s and 1990s, we welcomed our two sons, who have grown into the heart of our business today. Our oldest, Michael, now serves as our president, and our younger son, Robert, works beside me in designing each new collection. Coming to work every day is truly one of my greatest joys- not just because I get to create, but because I get to create with my children.
And now, just the way we once brought Michael and Robert into the office as little kids, I get to watch my three granddaughters toddle through the same rooms, discovering this world the way their dads once did. It’s a beautiful fullcircle moment, and it makes our family business feel even more meaningful.

Warm nights, in the open air call for something that is a little smoky, a little sweet, and deeply aromatic. This fire-grilled dish is deliciously spicy and perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Chicken:

2 lbs chicken thighs (boneless, skinless)
3 tbsp olive oil
– 2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cumin
– 1 tsp coriander
1/2 tsp cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp turmeric
3 garlic cloves (minced)
– Juice of 1 lemon
Salt and pepper
Couscous:
1 cup couscous
– 1 1/4 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup dried apricots (chopped)
1/4 cup pistachios
Fresh herbs (mint and parsley)
Olive oil and salt
Yogurt:
1 cup Greek yogurt
1–2 tsp harissa (or chili paste)
– Lemon zest and juice

Directions
Mix chicken ingredients together and let them sit at least one hour (overnight is better). – Grill on medium-high heat to get a slight charthis is essential.

Pour hot broth over couscous and apricots. – Cover 5 minutes, fluff.
– Stir in pistachios, herbs, olive oil.
Mix everything for yogurt sauce until smoothtaste for heat and acidity.
– Spread couscous on a large platter.
– Lay grilled chicken on top.
– Drizzle yogurt sauce. Finish with herbs & olive oil.
