Bem-vindo, benvinguts, bienvenido, bun venit croeso, fáilte, hoş geldin, khosh amadid, minukui peai, miśto avilăn, tere tulemast, üdvözlöm, välkomna, willkommen!
Welcome to the 29th edition of the Glatt&Verkehrt Festival!
In 2025, the sure-fire festival that brings exciting musical ideas from all over the world to Krems and the Wachau year after year since 1997 celebrates the diversity of languages: in 17 concerts with music from 18 countries and 4 continents.
Mexican musician and cantautora Laura Itandehui comes to Spitz for her Austrian debut. In an Indigenous language of the Mixteca region of Oaxaca, “Itandehui” means “flower of the sky.” In the double concert, she meets the Uí Fhlatharta siblings from the west of Ireland. Music From The Stars Of David is an already highly acclaimed programme of songwriting with Jewish roots – compiled by some unexpectedly famous composers and musicians
The 100th birthday of Ernst Jandl coincides right on time with the Glatt&Verkehrt festival theme “Language.” Two world premieres honour the brilliant, eminently musical linguistic artist and author: Christian Muthspiel and his Orjazztra bring together some of the best jazz musicians in the country. Singer-songwriter and director Anna Mabo and her versatile musical partner, cellist Clemens Sainitzer, will honour the centennial with a special song programme inspired by the poet’s signature wordplay.
More highlights at Glatt&Verkehrt No. 29: Elaha Soroor from Afghanistan plays with Kefaya from London. Black Lives deliver cross-generational soul-jazz power. The Estonian duo Puuluup and the Hungarian singer Fatima Szalay count among those who will be enjoying their Austrian debuts with us here in Krems. The Welsh harpist Cerys Hafana and Austrian harmonica player Katharina Baschinger have been specially commissioned to perform a joint concert. From Portugal comes one of the most fascinating protagonists of the new fado scene: Cristina Clara.
Also the 2025 programme features a significant number of female voices. More than half of the bands are led by a woman.
This – along with the multilingual theme – is also true for the international Music Workshop directed by Evelyn Fink-Mennel New additions to the team of instructors are songwriter and Söhne Mannheim member Michael “Kosho” Koschorreck, multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Froihofer, and Slovakian expert Bernhard Garaj.

Fado and blues, Jewish songs and shaman chants, spoken word and yodelling, tabla and bodhran, alongside a children’s play and the Music Workshop – all this awaits you at Glatt&Verkehrt 2025.
This year’s event venues are once again the splendid courtyard of Spitz Castle, the majestic Göttweig Abbey, the Salzstadl inn in Krems-Stein, Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche, and, of course, the atmospheric courtyard at Winzer Krems. Our festival partner Ö1 will once again be on site to broadcast the concerts.
The complete programme with detailed texts and information (German) will be presented on June 1 with live music at Vienna Radiokulturhaus (7:00 – 8:15 pm). Look forward to the invitation!
