2022 2023 ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT
WHO WE ARE Founded in 2006, the Northampton County Education Foundation, Inc. (NCEF) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization managed by an allvolunteer Board of Directors consisting of community members and ex-officio members from Northampton County Public Schools. Community is the core of our success throughout Northampton County Public Schools. Supporting educational activities with resources from the community enhances the academic experience of students in areas that are not funded through the school budget. NCEF has supported the public schools in many ways, including initial and ongoing funding of programs that support student education, and through support for our teachers.

2023 ANNUAL REPORT | NORTHAMPTON COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION

MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP As a new school year begins, it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight recent accomplishments of the Northampton County Education Foundation (NCEF). The Foundation has been a consistent benefactor and cheerleader of our public schools since 2006. The Foundation collaborates closely with the community, donors, and the school system to advocate for quality teaching and learning throughout Northampton County Public Schools. During the 2022-2023 school year, NCEF provided almost $69,000 directly to schools impacting all levels of instruction, teacher support, and program development. NCEF funding has been a champion of school system initiatives that promote academic success and has provided financial support for several extracurricular programs, classroom experiences, and student scholarships. Additionally, we provided funding for new staff training, staff appreciation events, and teacher of the year recognition. As a result of increased contributions from community members like you, we were able to fund PreK-Camp, provide funding for All District Reads in the elementary schools, assist in funding the middle school stem lab project, and provide financial assistance for students to enroll in college-level coursework, and much more. The all-volunteer board of directors works tirelessly throughout the year to promote, enhance, and provide needed assistance to our school system. Our overhead costs are a small percentage of our total budget allowing just under 90% of our 2022-23 annual budget to go directly to school projects and funding. We deeply care about our community and the importance of a strong, vibrant school system that meets the needs of all students. We thank you for your past support and hope we can count on you in the future.

DISTRICT INITIATIVES PRE-K CAMP The annual summer Pre-K Camp promotes school readiness for children registered to attend prekindergarten and helps the child, family, and school build the foundation for a close partnership that will ensure the child’s success throughout their school career. Parents universally report that they and their children benefit from the program. Pre-K teachers report that Pre-K Camp graduates separate from their parents and settle into the classroom routine with ease, freeing teachers to focus on students who need help adjusting. They also say Pre-K Camp parents tend to be more at ease interacting with teachers and other school staff and more involved with their children’s education.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the NCEF for their support over the last couple of years. You have no idea how it has changed the course of my life.
“The NCEF scholarships I received over the last two years not only helped reduce the financial burden for my
family but also encouraged me to continue advancing my education beyond the doors of Northampton High School. It has afforded me the ability to obtain my Associate's degree from ESCC and, because of that, encouraged me to continue my education at Old Dominion University in the Fall. I will hopefully be able to graduate from ODU with a degree in Cyber Security and enlist as an Air Force officer in two-three years. The scholarships allowed me

program. Children and parents/caregivers read the book aloud in their home. Many community members recorded chapters to make the book available in audio form. Recordings in English and Spanish were added to the NCPS website each day for families to enjoy. A teacher at Occohannock Elementary School stated “This book brought the magic of reading back into my classroom. Students were able to connect their reading at home with the activities we completed at school. It was great to see them foster their learning both inside and outside of school.”

CAL RIPKEN STEM LAB The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation helps at-risk youth engage in age-appropriate STEM learning in a structured environment with trained teachers and mentors who make science, technology, engineering, and math compelling and fun. NCEF financially supported the development and implementation of the middle school program slated to open in the fall of 2023. The middle school program will provide a seamless transition from the Ripken program already in place in both elementary schools. The curriculum includes hands-on learning guides that assist the teacher’s introduction of STEM concepts that are based on Next Generation Science Standards. The Ripken Foundation STEM Center includes educational lessons and materials on topics such as principles of circuitry, engineering, and coding. Instruction materials include laptops, 3D printers, drones, spools of printing filament and mobile STEM organizers and workstations. Teacher training and online resources for classroom use are available for all staff involved with the program instruction.

and donations, students in need of formal dresses or suits can now shop for these items in the closet. The closets in the elementary schools are on a smaller scale, and provide clean pants, socks, underwear, and other items for these students. Eastern Shore Signs, LLC is a great supporter of the Kids Closet with donations of over 150 T-shirts and 200 hoodies!

Receiving this scholarship is one of the greatest opportunities I’ve come upon... My academic performance, ability to retain material, and the likelihood of pursuing graduate study can now all be enhanced... Today, I’m putting out my best effort. With that being said, I will continue to do that and continue to motivate myself, and this scholarship is the extra motivation. COURTNEY SMAW
