THE SCHOOL OF

ARCHITECTURE:

DRAWING STUDIO & DORMITORY

Bitterroot Valley, Montana Fall 2023 & Spring 2024

Partner: Jiachen Wang

Professors: Kindon Mills

Andy Tinucci

Located in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley, this architecture school is designed to respond to two micro-ecologies—where forested mountains meet cultivated farmland.

The drawing studio lifts students into the environment, while the machine shop settles them into the landscape, reinforcing a dialogue between site and function. The dormitory reinterprets collective living, integrating private and shared spaces to foster interaction.

JÆJA: THE ALUMINUM EXHIBITION

Reyðarfjörður, Iceland Fall 2024

Professors:

Martin Felsen

Yohan Kim

JÆJA is an exhibition space that highlights aluminum’s architectural versatility. Located near an aluminum smelter in Reyðarfjörður, Iceland, the project contrasts high-tech precision with low-tech mass production.

A lightweight, seemingly floating canopy demonstrates aluminum’s strength-to-weight ratio, while overgrown pathways reclaim the material’s industrial origins.

STOMA WALL: DEHUMIDIFYING AND PURIFYING CELL WALL

Prototype Fall 2024

Professor: Youngjin Hwang, PhD

Designed for Portland’s fluctuating climate, Stoma Wall is a responsive building envelope that passively dehumidifies and purifies air.

Individual cells equipped with rotating panels and moss filtration systems adapt to humidity levels, inflating in colder temperatures for insulation and opening in warm conditions to improve air circulation.
