Personal Safety Training: Building Confidence, Awareness and Safer Working Practices Personal safety is often discussed as though it begins when a dangerous situation occurs. In reality, effective safety starts much earlier—with recognising potential risks, making sensible decisions, communicating clearly and knowing when to remove yourself from a situation. This is the purpose of Personal Safety Training. Rather than teaching people to confront danger, good training gives employees practical skills to identify hazards, reduce exposure to risk, respond appropriately to challenging behaviour and seek help when necessary. The need is particularly relevant in workplaces where employees interact with customers, patients, members of the public or unfamiliar environments. According to the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), an estimated 689,000 incidents of violence at work occurred in 2024/25, including approximately 370,000 assaults and 319,000 threats. Around 329,000 adults experienced violence at work during the year. These figures demonstrate why personal safety should be treated as a practical workplace competency rather than an optional extra.

What Is Personal Safety Training?
