Welcome We are inviting schools and community groups in North London Hospice’s catchment boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey to get creative and join our Big Fun Art Adventure which is coming to North London in the summer of 2024. This is a chance for your school or group to be part of a fantastic feel-good event that will showcase your talent and involve you in this exciting, community-wide project.
What is Big Fun Art Adventure? Big Fun Art Adventure is North London’s largest free public art trail that will take over Haringey in August 2024 for eight weeks. At least 30 giant, artist-designed owl sculptures and up to 40 smaller ‘owlets’, designed by local schools and community groups will hide in plain sight on the streets, in buildings and in the parks of North London. Together, the parliament of owls will celebrate the vibrancy, culture and creativity that North London has to offer and will give trail walkers the opportunity to explore the area in a fun, family-friendly way. It’s a wonderful way for the whole community to get involved as it will bring together businesses, artists, schools, community groups, residents and visitors to celebrate everything the area has to offer. The large owls will be auctioned at the end of the trail to raise money for North London Hospice and the owlets will be returned to nest with their school or group.

Our Schools and Community Groups Programme Become artists in your local area where your owlet will be admired by your friends, family and thousands of visitors! The Schools and Community Groups Programme is a crucial part of the Big Fun Art Adventure and we have designed an inclusive programme to cater for our schools and community groups. We are inviting schools and community groups to be part of the fun and get creative in 2024 by adopting an owlet sculpture. Each school or group that signs up will be given a blank owlet to decorate along with a resource pack of activities and guidance. The pack will include details of how to get the most from the design and decoration experience including lesson planning ideas and activities. When the owlets have been decorated, they will join the large owls and, together as a whole parliament, they will form a magnificent sculpture trail around Haringey for eight weeks.

Why take part in the Big Fun Art Adventure? It will provide your school or group with an opportunity to explore new art forms, developing their creativity, confidence and artistic skills It will support health and wellbeing by encouraging participants to explore the trail with their friends and families, aligning with the Five Ways to Wellbeing research It will help you to develop links locally and demonstrate community cohesion by being part of bigger community project It will help you to meet educational goals through a fun, accessible learning pack It will give participants a sense of pride seeing their artwork alongside professional artists It’s raising awareness and funds for your local hospice in a fun and engaging way It will gently facilitate conversations about death, dying and bereavement
Fundraising ideas and support If you decide to adopt your owlet by fundraising for North London Hospice, the Big Fun Art Adventure team has lots of ideas to inspire you to reach your fundraising goal from non-uniform days, bake sales and movie nights to sponsored read-a-thons and owl-themed craft stalls.

Register now and secure your own little owlet! You have until Friday 2 February 2024 to sign up for the Big Fun Art Adventure. There are 40 owlets available. All it takes is an adoption fee of £295 and a pledge to raise at least £700 for North London Hospice. Alternatively, you can pay for the sculpture outright (£995+VAT) without a fundraising pledge. By adopting an owlet you’re helping us to raise vital funds for North London Hospice so that we can continue to support people needing our services. As well as the owlet sculpture, the adoption fee also includes: • A Schools and Community Groups Programme information pack which with all that you need to make the most of your Big Fun Art Adventure sculpture • An owlet adoption certificate • Display of your owlet for eight weeks on the public art trail and inclusion at the farewell event where all the owls, large and small, are displayed as a collection in one location for a long weekend • Your school or group’s name on your sculpture and on the Big Fun Art Adventure website and app. You might also like to feature in some of our social media content • Lots of PR opportunities for your school or group • Inclusion in the event’s trail map, website and app • A workshop for two of your school or group representatives to find out more about the trail, sculpture and learning information pack • Your owlet to keep forever at the end of the sculpture trail Bigfunartadventure.org 5

April 2024 Schools and community groups programme inspiration event. Representatives from each adopting school/group join to a workshop. Co-hosted by Wild In Art and North London Hospice, we’ll share tips, information and ways to go about designing and decorating your owlet and answer any questions you have about the process.

7 June 2024 Owlets need to be finished and returned to the Big Fun Art Adventure HQ to be photographed ready for the trail’s launch.
August 2024 - October 2024 Big Fun Art Adventure is live!
October 2024 Farewell weekend and afterwards the owlets are returned to their adopters

Owlets are made of fire-resistant fibreglass and will come to you as a ready-to-paint primed white 3D canvas. They are very robust and hard to damage! They weigh 15kg. H 95cm x L 48cm x W 50cm 920mm 920mm

About North London Hospice North London Hospice exists to enable the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. We work together with our community to provide vital palliative and end-of-life care and support, when and where it’s needed most. We provide high quality tailored, personalised care for more than 3,500 people a year who are living with a life-limiting illness in Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. We also support their families, friends, and carers through our various services. We are the sole provider of free of charge, palliative and end-of-life care for adults with life-limiting conditions in our vast catchment across North and Central London.

Why an owl? We’ve chosen to have a trail of owl sculptures because owls are keen, knowledgeable creatures. The owl is often characterised as a calm and gentle source of wisdom - and they work at night, like many of our doctors and nurses. Owls have a peaceful sense of storytelling, passing on knowledge and stories through families and across different cultures. We hope they will bring us all together with a shared sense of history, heritage, empathy and understanding. Owls are wise seekers, tirelessly strong, considered, and accurate. In fact, owls are like the staff at North London Hospice as we learn and grow wiser from each interaction with our patients, their loved ones, and our wider community. 8 Bigfunartadventure.org

Let us know that you’d like to join our parliament of owlets by emailing bigfunartadventure@northlondonhospice.co.uk. We will then make sure that you have everything you need including fundraising and learning resources. 2. Decide whether you are going to purchase your owlet or fundraise. If it’s the latter, we ask that you commit to fundraising £700 for North London Hospice.
