Principal’s Message
As we reach the end of another remarkable academic year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to every member of our NLCS Jeju community. This year has been my first as Principal, and I have been inspired daily by the diligence, creativity, and commitment to excellence demonstrated by both our students and staff. Whether through scholarship and academic achievement in the classroom or the pursuit of cocurricular passions, the enthusiasm and joy taken in both the process of learning and practice, as well as the outcomes, are true hallmarks of an NLCS Jeju education and our vibrant community. That this is also achieved amidst a spirit of collaboration and kindness, consistently upheld, further defines our school and it is an institution that we should all collectively be immensely proud of.
This newsletter is a celebration of some of the recent highlights of the aforementioned daily achievements and successes that characterise NLCS Jeju. Inside, you’ll find highlights from our Arts Festival, where students showcased their talent and passion in the full range of the creative arts which we value so highly here as part of a genuinely enriching all-round education. You’ll read about a range of fantastic whole-year group trips full of challenge and camaraderie for our students, and the incredible work of our Sixth Form Prefects, whose leadership has enriched school life. We also shine a spotlight on the House Competitions, where teamwork and school spirit have been on full display, as well as the work of our wellbeing and inclusion team who do so much to support our community’s emotional and mental health.
From the Junior School, we celebrate the energy and curiosity of our younger learners, whose highlights from the last term included the Year 3 Sleepover, Children’s Day celebrations, the annual Sports Days, and a wonderful Art Exhibition that included contributions from every single student in the Junior School.
To our students: Your hard work, curiosity, and passion have made this year unforgettable. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, on the sports field, or in the many co-curricular activities that bring our community to life, you have shown what it means to embrace challenge and celebrate success.
To our staff: Your commitment to nurturing and guiding our students is the foundation of everything we do. Your tireless efforts ensure that every child feels supported, inspired, and empowered to reach their potential.
To our parents: Thank you for your trust, partnership, and unwavering support. Your involvement enriches our school and helps us create an environment where every student can thrive.
As we look ahead to the summer, I encourage everyone to take this time to rest and recharge. The break is not just a pause, it is an essential part of the learning journey as a time to reflect, reconnect, and return with renewed energy.
When we return in August, we will embark on another exciting academic year, building on the strengths of this year and embracing new opportunities for growth and discovery. I cannot wait to see what will be achieved then.

This is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to Wooyoung’s talent, artistry, and dedication.
Congratulations also to Jooha Lim, who achieved both a Gold and Silver Award at a recent dance competition. This is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects the hard work and commitment that Jooha consistently demonstrates. We are incredibly proud of these talented students and look forward to celebrating their continued successes in the future.
Finally, a special message to our Year 13 Dance students, Alyssa Seo and Stella Kang.
Congratulations on your university offers. We wish you both the very best as you begin the next exciting chapter of your dance journeys studying abroad. Your dedication, resilience, and passion for dance have been evident throughout your time at NLCS Jeju, and you should be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved.
You have both worked exceptionally hard over the years and have represented the Dance Department and NLCS Jeju with professionalism, creativity, and determination. We are immensely proud of your accomplishments and the young artists you have become.

Senior School
A Term of Creative Exploration
During Term 3, the Drama Department was delighted to welcome academic visitor Dr Jennifer Hartley, an applied theatre practitioner, who worked with Drama and Theatre students from Years 9–12. Throughout her visit, Dr Hartley led a series of engaging workshops that challenged students to explore new approaches to performance, storytelling, and audience engagement. Dr Hartley also collaborated with the Psychology Department and Sixth Form students, delivering workshops focused on body language, self-awareness, and effective communication. These sessions provided valuable insights into the ways non-verbal communication shapes our interactions and understanding of others. Her visit culminated in a powerful and intimate performance by our Year 12 IB Theatre (HL) students whereby each student presented a 9-minute confession piece, drawing the audience into deeply personal and thought-provoking narratives. The honesty, maturity, and courage demonstrated by the performers left a lasting impression, earning the admiration and respect of all who attended.
Following Dr Hartley’s visit, Katherine Ryan directed a compelling production of David Campton’s “Us and Them”. Through innovative staging and strong ensemble performances, the production presented audiences with a thought-provoking exploration of division, identity, and human relationships. The performance showcased the creativity and dedication of our students and provided a memorable theatrical experience for all involved. Congratulations to all the KS3 students who took part.

Term 3 is a time in Chemistry where experimental independent projects are entering their final stages and students are working thoughtfully and diligently to finish their experimental work so they can reflect and write about their experience over the summer. There has been a wide range of high-level projects from our NLCS scholars from theoretically looking at the dynamics of chemical processes to devising and synthesising better materials to help the environment.
The Music Department has had a very busy term culminating in the exciting Arts Festival, at which our students showcased their talents in settings as diverse as an opera, hip-hop night, Year 13 swansongs, and an exciting community-led performance event in the Auditorium.
Prior this our Junior School collaborated with NLCS Kobé in the first-ever NLCS Interschools Junior Music Festival, for which NLCS Jeju’s Director of Music was commissioned to write a piece. On the horizon is our participation in the second NLCS Interschools Festival taking place in London in October 2026.
Well-being
As the school year draws to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate something often overlooked in the rush towards the next milestone: the extraordinary journey our students have already completed. Whether they are finishing a demanding exam year, navigating the social and emotional complexities of adolescence, or simply showing up every single day — that deserves to be acknowledged.
The summer break ahead is not simply a gap between school years. It is an essential part of the learning process — and the research is clear on this.
In South Korea, the pressure on young people to study intensively is well documented, as is the toll it can take on mental health and wellbeing.
Crucially, evidence shows that more hours of study does not straightforwardly mean better outcomes. Insufficient sleep, directly impairs the executive functions students need most: memory, decision-making and the ability to learn.
We warmly encourage our families to think of rest, sleep and family time this summer not as idleness, but as investment. Adolescents who return to school rested, reconnected with the people they love and having had time simply to be — rather than constantly do — are better placed to engage, to build strong relationships with their teachers, and to sustain their motivation across the year ahead.
That means sleep. It means meals together. It means hobbies that have nothing to do with school. It means boredom, occasionally, and the creativity that tends to follow. It means physical activity and time outdoors. And it means genuine conversations between parents and children about where they’ve been and where they’re heading.
For students and parents who would like guidance on rest, self-care, healthy routines and emotional wellbeing over the break, our school’s Wellbeing Hub remains available throughout the summer. It is a space designed for our whole community — students and parents alike — and offers practical, evidence-informed advice on all aspects of wellbeing.
From all of us in the Wellbeing and Inclusion Teams: well done on a remarkable year. Now, enjoy a proper rest.
This term, students in Exploring Psychology CCA investigated a diverse range of topics, from neuroscience and moral decision-making to criminal psychology and social behaviour. Through discussions, experiments and case studies, students were encouraged to question assumptions and think critically about human behaviour.
Reflecting on the programme, Dayul and Yelena noted that they were surprised by “how broad and diverse the field is,” discovering that psychology extends far beyond emotions and thoughts to explore how people behave, interact and understand the world around them. Meanwhile, Hellen and Elin found criminal psychology particularly thoughtprovoking, reflecting on how activities exploring peer pressure and stereotypes revealed “how social environments can shape people’s decisions and behaviour.”
Students also explored famous neuroscience case studies, with Ariel and Ella highlighting how stories such as Phineas Gage and Henry Molaison demonstrated that “specific areas of the brain have specific functions.” Through these experiences, students not only gained an introduction to key psychological concepts but also developed the curiosity and analytical mindset of young psychologists.
oarding Homes
The boarding calendar culminates with a special day for all, our boarding celebration day on Sunday 7th of July. The whole community feasted on pork and chicken, lovingly prepared and charcoal BBQed by our boarding staff alongside some delicious banchan provided by Quadra. We later came together as a community to celebrate out students and the Values they uphold in their day to day life in NLCS. Awards for Home spirit and Vales champion were handed out and we enjoyed 4 wonderful performances from our battle of the bands competition.
Well done to IHO for winning the competition with a spectacular version of Taylor Swift’s Love Story.
Prior to the battle of the bands we updated everyone on the standings in the battle of the beaches competition which has ran for the first time this year. I am doubly happy to announce that with the win in our 6th competition of the year, Iho took home the shield and also the pride!
Term 3 25/26
It has been an incredible year of House Competition which has seen the positioning change at the end of each term. At the end of Term 1 Geomun were in pole position, this changed to Jeoji in Term 2. It has been wonderful to see the collaboration and commitment between the students within and across the houses.
During Term 3 the houses welcomed the incoming Year 7s during the Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Day. Much of this day was supported by our House Captains and student leaders who made sure all new members felt very welcomed. They participated in house ice breaker games, a scavenger hunt across the campus, Science and Maths lessons and were fortunate enough to watch the House Interpretive Dance Competition.
Our Year 8 and Year 9 students also had the opportunity to participate in the Year Group Residential trips on the mainland. Once again, this provided the students with opportunities to challenge themselves, try something new, build new friendships and celebrate their year at NLCS Jeju. Year 7 students had a ‘Fun Day’ which involved many smaller house competitions such as the game show, drone dash, a treasure hunt and dodgeball. The Year 7 students in Sarah were the overall winners and were treated to ice cream cakes.
The House Teams have also been spending time with the current Year 11 students as they now begin their journey into the sixth form and the IBDP. We wish them all the best with their IGCSE examinations results in the summer and hope to see them back supporting their houses soon as the senior students within the school.
During our Senior School Term 3 Celebration Assembly we celebrated the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 House Values Awards who were nominated by their Head of House and Assistant Head of House. These have been supplemented by the House Commendation Awards which are tutor nominated in the termly House Celebration Assemblies.

Sports Day 2026:
Term 3 sees the much anticipated Sports Day - this event is worth 30 points! The students had a fantastic afternoon on the astro competing in a variety of track and field events. Many school records have been broken this year and will be shared with students via the House Teams.

Sports Day is a real team effort - congratulations and well done to all our competitors across the houses.
Sports Day also saw Geomun House retaining the Canons Cup. This event relies heavily on teamwork and strategy, the students participated in a number of challenges such as obstacle courses, sponge relays, water challenges and much more. Congratulations to Geomun House.
Sporting Events:
We have had a great year of sporting events across the terms, these team events have allowed students within and across year groups to compete together whilst building their house communities and spirit. The most successful sporting house this year is Jeoji.
Jeoji House took first place in the House Cross Country event which saw the elite race take place within the GEC and other students participating in a Token Run fun event around the NLCS Jeju campus. The Table Tennis and Volleyball events were also won by Jeoji House. Congratulations to Noro who took the victory in the House Dodgeball and Tug of War.
Arts Events:
Mulchat House claimed the victory of another arts event this term with the House Interpretative Dance, choreographed a phenomenal performance which our Y6 students were fortunate enough to see during their Transition Day. House Art took place during the Arts Festival and was a collaboration between the Art and Dance department. The Key Stage 4 students had two canvases and a dancer to paint with the theme of Mayhem. The IGCSE dancers then performed during the Arts Festival which was a fantastic event. A special congratulations to Noro House who won the Key Stage 4 competition and Jeoji House who won the Key Stage 3 competition. The Arts Festival also saw the House Drama competition with the stimulus of ‘why fit in when you were born to stand out’, this event was won by Geomun House, their first arts victory this year.
Other Events:
Alongside the arts and sports we have also enjoyed a range of competitions linked to the academics and skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and team work. Geomun house took first place with the Hype Video and Mathletics event. Noro has also seen two victories in the House Robotics and E-Sports Competitions.

We will be kick starting the 26/27 year with Quick Cricket and Basketball, these competitions will take place on Mondays between 16:15-17:15, there are no Monday CCAs except House Competition.
The students will also be working towards House Singing and House Commercial Dance which is provisionally scheduled for Thursday 22nd October.
