PRINCIPAL

As we close the final chapter of this academic year, it is impossible to look back without acknowledging the shadow cast by regional conflict. There is no easy way to describe the experience of maintaining a focus on the future while missiles interrupted the present. Yet, it is against this backdrop of adversity that our school community has pulled together and shown genuine solidarity.

I must begin with a sincere thank you. To our staff , who worked tirelessly to ensure learning has remained seamless; to our parents, whose ongoing support has remained unshaken despite significant personal challenges; and most importantly, to our students. Their resilience has been amazing, demonstrating grit as a daily practice. Whether logging on for remote learning at 4am each day or preparing for external exams amidst uncertainty, they have turned a period of immense pressure into a masterclass in determination. The character and drive that they have shown has been wonderful to see.

Even in our most challenging months, NLCS Dubai did not stand still. We saw the successful integration of our new digital strategy, with personal Chromebooks and Google Classroom evolving from tools of necessity into genuine tools to support innovation in the classroom. We also began the vital work of navigating the frontiers of AI, ensuring our students lead with both technological fluency and ethical clarity. The work here is not finished but we have certainly made a great start.

The results of this dedication are clearly demonstrated by the amazing achievements of our Sixth Form students. Our Class of 2026 has put NLCS Dubai firmly on the global map, securing record-breaking offers from 44 of the top 100 QS World University Rankings. From the historic halls of Oxford, Cambridge, and LSE to the prestigious campuses of Berkeley, Cornell, and ETH Zurich, our graduates are heading to many of the best universities globally to change the world. I can’t wait to welcome them back during the winter break to hear of their new adventures.

The "NLCS Spirit" was also found far beyond the campus:

• Global Perspectives: Over 1,500 students experienced the independence of overnight trips, from our elite skiers training at national camps to Gold and Silver DofE expeditions in the Swiss Alps.

• International Links: Our Grade 5 MUN trip to London and our Singapore exchange strengthened the bonds of our global NLCS family.

• Regional success: Our Dubai Maths Challenge team won the senior team challenge, beating all other schools in Dubai and our first ever robotics team recently came fourth in the UAE heats of the global world challenge.

• Elite Musicianship: Eight of our best musicians went to Bahrain to compete in the Gulf Young Musician of the year, a great first for NLCS Dubai.

• Elite Sports: Our Senior girls athletics team won Team Gold at the DASSA athletics competition.

A school is never defined by its architecture, but by the heart and commitment of the people within it. I continue to be impressed by stories of teachers demonstrating outstanding commitment, going the extra mile for their students, holding online check-ins with students thousands of miles away, running catch-up sessions before school and our operations team working through nights and weekends to ensure our physical home was ready for our return after online learning. And finally our students, who remain our greatest pride. Their curiosity, their Nicholson lectures, their enthusiasm and their kindness toward one another are what make this school exceptional. This obviously includes this year’s Big 8 - Nadine, Alexander, Anna, Arjan, Edward, Francesco, Mona, and Tian, who have led with a rare combination of compassion and humility, setting a standard for all who follow.

As you look through these pages, I hope you see more than just photos. I hope you see a record of a community that stayed together when things were falling apart, and excelled when the world expected us to merely endure.

HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

To the students of NLCS, and the magic of their strings.

This year holds a particularly deep resonance for me. Having been part of the NLCS family for six years now, stepping into the role of Head of Junior School has been a moment of immense pride. It is a privilege I value more with every passing day, particularly during a year that truly tested our resolve and the strength of our connections. We began this year with the familiar hum of our hallways, perhaps taking for granted the ease of a shared desk, a quick catch-up in the corridor, or the simple joy of a playground game. But as Term 2 shifted us into distance learning, our "campus" suddenly expanded across the globe. In that transition, I was reminded of Patrice Karst’s book, The Invisible String, which teaches us that we are all connected by an unbreakable bond - no matter how far apart we may be.

In Term 1, our strings were short and visible. In Term 2, we watched them stretch.

“I don’t see a string,” said Jeremy.

“You don’t need to see the Invisible String. People who love each other are always connected by a very special string made of love”

“But if you can’t see it, how do you know it’s there?” asked Liza.

“Even though you can’t see it with your eyes, you can feel it with your heart and know that you are always connected to everyone you love.”

Those strings spanned oceans and crossed time zones. They were woven through flickering Wi-Fi signals, breakout rooms, and the quiet determination it took to stay engaged from a bedroom thousands of miles away. We saw them in the way friends checked in on one another through a screen.

We discovered that the "NLCS spirit" isn't contained within four walls. We learned that being part of this school isn't about sitting in a specific chair; it’s about the invisible bonds of belonging and shared purpose that pull us back together, no matter the distance. We found that even when we couldn't walk the same corridors, we were still walking the same path. Whether you were in Dubai or logging on from across the world, you proved that being exceptional is not about where you sit, but the spirit and dedication you bring to everything you do: a daily dose of hard work, a daily dose of curiosity, and a daily dose of kindness.

As you look back on this yearbook, don’t just see the photos of the faces. See the Invisible Strings that connect them. We have proven this year that our community is not bound by geography, but by the spirit we carry within us. No matter where your next chapter takes you, remember: the string is always there, and it’s stronger than you think.

And remember……once a North Londoner, always a North Londoner - no matter where you are.

DEPUTY HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

Together we can do so much..

Another year passes, And for me that’s five As we grow and evolve And continue to thrive.

Once again it’s a poem from me, My favourite medium, it has to be said! As I reflect on my first year, As your Deputy Head.

I have once again chosen Rhythm and rhyme, To find the positives to emerge, From these challenging times.

Because throughout recent months When our strengths were put to the test We emerged even stronger. Our community. The best.

Its omnipresence surrounds us, Always quietly there, Through Eid celebrations, Or the warmth of the Winter Fair.

But its strength and its power, Truly emerge in our most challenging hour, For only when tested do we truly see The importance of our community.

Our teachers brought reassurance, Normality, stability and care, Supporting our children, No matter where.

Our students showed resilience, And still managed to have fun, With smiles that filled our screens, connecting everyone.

And we don’t forget our parents. Supportive throughout, With kindness and encouragement, What community is all about.

And then came those moments, That stretched far beyond school gates, Beach walks and gatherings, Across countries and states.

Meet ups in London, Hikes through Singapore, Proof that this global community, Stretches far beyond our doors.

Together. Online. Our spirit still burned bright, Through Founder’s Day celebrations, And World Book Week delight.

And then came late April, And a welcome return, Back to the classrooms, Our home from which we learn.

The laughter returned quickly, The corridors alive once more, Reenergising our teachers, parents, The whole community, at its very core.

And though we know not, What the future hols, Our community grows stronger, As our story unfolds

Alas my poem is now complete, The message is hopefully clear. Concrete. So I enlist Helen Keller, To provide the finishing touch…

“Alone we can do so little, Together we can do so much.”

Cygnets Pre KG

A Poem for the Cygnets

The Cygnets class have flown so high, a year of wonder passing by.

With muddy hands and happy hearts, each little Cygnet played their part.

Nevin loved books from end to end, always a polite and thoughtful friend.

Swimming, running, numbers too, and always asking, “Is it time for food?”

Laya started a little bit shy but soon her funny side would fly.

Drawing, numbers, kitchen play, with Zara laughing every day.

Mishi danced and sang with glee, lost in worlds of make-believe.

Always exploring something new, with clever ideas shining through.

Aadar loved to dig and build, with knowledge and adventure filled.

Outside biking in the sun, with Niasun beside him having fun.

Jason filled our days with cheer, keeping everyone busy all year!

Messy play and building towers, outdoor fun for endless hours.

Zara came out of her shell so bright, curious and caring with pure delight.

Mud kitchen cakes and babies too, especially with Laya joining in too.

Aryanshh grew in confidence each day, making friendships through his play.

Sharing stories, reading with pride, with Nevin often by his side.

August always makes us smile, with cheeky charm and adventurous style.

Loving messy play and painting too, imaginative ideas shining through.

Ava’s kindness lit the room, a caring friend in every bloom.

Writing, drawing every day, with Arianna and Cara in play.

Ryan quietly amazed us all, sharing facts both big and small.

Monster trucks and stories too, with brilliant ideas shining through.

Niasun made us coffee each day, in imaginative games and role play.

Police officer, chef and friend, the fun with Aadar would never end.

Cara’s drawings stole the show, her creativity continued to grow.

Maths and phonics came so fast, an inspiring artist unsurpassed.

Arianna blossomed beautifully this year, reading books with growing cheer.

Painting, drawing, full of pride, with Ava playing by her side.

Ellie danced with endless flair, spreading joy everywhere.

A future pop star, we know, with kindness always on show.

Saya cared for everyone near, with gentle words we loved to hear.

Animals, playdough, drawing too, and home corner games she happily knew.

Jeff amazed us every day, with maths and numbers leading the way.

“Jazzy Jeff,” we loved to say, as he worked hard in every way.

Leon liked things just right each day, sharing kindly through his play.

Numbers, maths and outdoor fun, always active in the sun.

Dinosaurs, jungles, oceans deep, space adventures we still keep.

Stories, laughter, dancing too, what a year we shared with you.

With Mrs Harris, Miss Victoria and Miss Marlyn by your side, we watched you learn with so much pride.

Cygnets, you’ve made memories that will stay in our hearts forever and a day.

Mrs Harris

Ducklings Pre KG

At the start of the year, we came together not knowing one another, and over time we have grown into a truly special Duckling community. What a wonderful year it has been in our Duckling class! From the very beginning, the children have grown in confidence, independence, and curiosity, embracing each day with enthusiasm and a love for learning.

Throughout the year, we have built strong friendships, learned to work together, and supported one another through new challenges. The children have made wonderful progress in their reading, writing, and maths skills, while also developing creativity, problem-solving, and resilience through play and exploration.

I am especially proud of how independent the children have become—taking responsibility for their belongings, managing routines, and showing kindness and respect to those around them.

Each child has brought something unique and special to our classroom, helping to create a warm and caring community. It has been a joy to watch them grow and achieve so much. We are incredibly proud of every one of them and excited to see all the amazing things they will continue to accomplish in the future. A special thank you to Ms Cecilia and Ms Jannesa for their continued commitment and support in helping shape our Pre-KG children, ready for their exciting journey into KG1. A heartfelt thank you to all our families for helping to make this such a wonderful year in the Ducklings class. Bye bye see you again, hope to see you soon!

Warm regards, Ms

Hatchlings Pre KG

In Hatchlings class, we started small, With tiny wings and dreams just learning to call. But early on, we found our song, A stage, a moment where we belonged. At the winter show, we stood up tall, Bright little voices, giving our all. With smiles that sparkled, proud and free, We shone together for all to see. Back in our classroom, cosy and warm, A safe little nest through every storm. With laughter and kindness filling the air, It felt like a home we all could share. In our book corner, snug and bright, We gathered close in soft, warm light. Through magical stories, page by page, We traveled the world from our little stage. From there we grew, both bold and kind, Curious hearts and eager minds. We hatched into learners day by day,

Discovering the world in our own way. We dived in oceans, deep and blue, At the aquarium, wonders came into view. As dino discoverers, brave and wise, We explored the past with open eyes. We learned of communities, helping hands, Of jobs and dreams across many lands. Thinking of futures yet to be, And all that we hope and aspire to be. Even when learning from home apart, We stayed connected, heart to heart. We baked together, sharing delight, Mixing and creating with smiles shining bright. And now as we spread our wings to fly, We carry these moments as time goes by. For Hatchlings we were, and always will be, A little class with a big story.

Our New Outdoor Adventure

This year, our KG1 explorers traded four walls for the boundless sky! We stepped into our brand-new outdoor playgrounda world built for big imaginations and even bigger discoveries. From the moment the doors open, you can hear the "clinkclink" of spades and the joyful laughter of children simply having the best time.

Our journey usually begins in the Sand and Water areas. We aren't just playing; we are little architects and engineers! We’ve learned how to work together, passing buckets and sharing space as we build towering dunes and winding rivers.

Nearby, the "vroom" of the bikes and trikes creates a bustling highway. We’ve mastered the art of the "stop and go," navigating the paths with care and, most importantly, taking turns so everyone gets a chance in the driver’s seat. For our bravest adventurers, the climbing wall and slides are all about grit and triumph. It’s been amazing to see the children cheer each other on, celebrating every successful climb and every daring trip down the slide!

The magic continues on our outdoor stage, which has become a total hub of creativity. Whether we’re shaking instruments or putting on a full song-and-dance routine, the children are building the confidence to find their own unique voices.

In our quieter moments, we’ve enjoyed spending time in nature and seeing how things grow in our planters. But more than just a playground, this space has been a "classroom for the heart." We’ve learned how to make new friendships, how to solve problems with a kind word, and how to turn a simple game into a great memory.

To our wonderful KG1 students: You have filled this new space with life, curiosity, and kindness. May you always keep exploring, always keep playing, and always keep wondering!

Keep Growing, KG1!

A Little World of Wonder

“Miss Allen, come and see!”

Is something I hear most days, A tower built, a picture drawn, A shell found in the trays.

A tiny hand will pull me close, With news I need to know,

A wooden coffee made for me, Or soup from the leaves below.

I may not have one class of my own, But I get to know you all, I see you rushing through the doors, So excited, one and all.

With bags that bump against your knees, I worry that you’ll fall, The brave goodbyes, the hugs, the waves, And endless “look at these!”

I hear your voices in the halls, Your questions, loud and bright, Your stories full of dinosaurs, Of rockets, rainbows, light.

I watch you learn to share a space, To listen, wait and care,

To find a friend who needs your help, And gently offer theirs.

From tiny marks to careful words, From sounds you start to blend,

From “I can’t do it” whispered low,

To “I did it!” at the end.

I’ve seen you count with careful thought, And subitise with pride,

Explain your thinking, change your mind, And try another side.

I’ve watched you paint and sing and build, Make potions, plans and dens, Turn cardboard boxes into worlds, And sticks into magic pens.

Each class has brought its own bright spark, Its laughter, charm and cheer, A thousand little moments made

Across this busy year.

Some of you dance before you walk, Some of you sing before you speak, Some ask me questions every day, Some watch before they leap.

But all of you have grown so much, In confidence and in heart, And I have loved the privilege Of watching every part.

So when you leave these Early Years, Take wonder as you go, Stay curious, kind and full of joy, There is so much more to know.

And though you may grow far too fast, As children always do,

A little piece of Early Years Will always stay with you.

ASST. HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

At the beginning of the academic year, the walls of my office were bare, and in our very first collective assembly, I set the students the challenge of helping me turn the blank canvas into a gallery, and they certainly rose to this. My walls (and shelves) are now a wonderfully vibrant gallery of creativity filled with both 2D and 3D artwork that the students have kindly shared. Each piece is a reminder of the journey we have taken together this school year. Back in August, we set ourselves the challenge to discover what it truly means to be Exceptional and this has been a common theme running throughout our assemblies. We quickly learned that being exceptional isn't about being perfect; it is about having the courage to be a Risk Taker, one of our learner profile attributes, demonstrated both within and beyond the physical school walls.

We challenged our students to move beyond their comfort zones and embrace the unknown with a positive mindset. In KG2, this courage is often found in the smallest of moments: a hand raised to ask a question, the persistence to master a new physical skill, or the kindness required to welcome a new peer. In Grade 1 and Grade 2, we have watched this evolve into a sophisticated sense of inquiry, where students have dared to tackle complex problems, shared their unique voices in collaborative discussions, and taken ownership of their learning journeys with increasing independence.

Part of our journey this year involved navigating a digital landscape, and this period was perhaps one of the bigger tests of embodying the Risk Taker attribute. Without the familiar comforts of the physical classroom, our students were required to demonstrate a level of resilience and independence beyond their years, using the “Power of Yet.” This small word has become a fundamental part of our vocabulary. Whether it was mastering new digital platforms, adapting to collaborating virtually through creative breakout sessions, or finding inventive ways to stay connected from afar, our students maintained their vibrant curiosity and passion for learning. They replaced the frustration of "I cannot" with the determination of “I cannot do this yet.”

Our students have shown that learning is not confined by space, but by their passion for discovery. By adding “yet” to our challenges, they have shown how perseverance leads to achievement. My office gallery is now a testament to these successes, a colourful reminder that when our children are brave enough to try, they truly are exceptional.

The Incredible Journey of the 20 Dolphins

Once upon a time, in the glittering city of Dubai, lived a pod of twenty extraordinary Dolphins. These weren't your average swimmers; they were a team of bright, brave students ready to take on the world!

Our adventure kicked off with a splash at Air Maniax. This wasn't just a trip; it was a masterclass in ATL skills. The Dolphins became real-life superheroes, helping their friends navigate tricky inflatable zones and cheering each other on. The air was filled with giggles and gasps as they proved they were ultimate risk-takers, soaring through the air on the zip line with courage that reached the clouds!

As the desert breeze turned cool and winter break approached, our young explorers turned their eyes to the wonders of the planet. They became mini-scientists, uncovering amazing secrets about the animal kingdom. A highlight was the trip to Dubai Safari Park, where they saw majestic creatures up close. Back in the classroom, they channeled their inner artists, showcasing their discoveries through stunning, detailed dioramas that brought the wild to life.

But then, the world changed. Our classroom moved onto glowing screens, and suddenly, homes became our new schools. This is where the Dolphins showed their true heart: resilience. Even through a camera lens, we kept each other going with bright smiles and funny stories of our days.

When we finally leapt back into school, we dived straight into the sugary world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Just like Charlie Bucket, the Dolphins dreamt big. They learned that even when things get tough, staying kind and determined makes you stronger than ever.

Mrs Pathak will forever remember the strength, laughter, and spirit of these twenty incredible Dolphins. You have grown so much, and she is bursting with pride for every single one of you!

Whether you were laughing at the Puppet Theatre or discovering the magic of a golden ticket in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you brought joy to every lesson. Thank you for a year of kindness, curiosity and endless smiles.

Our Seahorse Year

Safari trips and sandy toes at our sunny beach picnic,

At Dubai Safari Park, what wonders we found, Animals walking, roaring and wandering around. We asked clever questions and looked closely too, Like real little scientists discovering something new.

Then came the magic of Les Marionnettes Dubai, Where puppets danced and stories reached the sky. The Seals watched with wonder, wide-eyed and still, As imagination gave every heart a thrill.

Through books, numbers, phonics and play, The Seals grew stronger every day. They learned to be caring, thoughtful and kind, With curious hearts and creative minds.

KG2's Trip to Dubai Safari Park

What a roaring success! This year, our KG2 explorers swapped their classrooms for the great outdoors as we embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Dubai Safari Park. From the moment we stepped onto the buses, the air was thick with excitement and the sound of little voices practicing their best lion roars.

Our journey began with a delightful ride on the safari train, chugging through the desert landscape while spotting animals tucked away. The excitement continued as we boarded the safari coach to venture deep into the larger enclosures. Looking out of the big windows, we felt like real explorers in the wild, catching glimpses of majestic lions, towering giraffes, and powerful rhinos roaming their wide-open homes. Seeing these incredible creatures in such a natural space was a moment of pure wonder for our little learners.

The magic reached new heights at the Bird Show, which left us all ducking and diving! We watched in awe as colorful parrots and magnificent birds of prey performed incredible tricks, flying right over our heads so close we could feel the flutter of their wings. After such a busy morning of discovery, we worked up a "beastly" appetite and gathered together to enjoy a delicious lunch of pizza and chips, sharing stories about our favorite animals under the warm Dubai sun.

The Dubai Safari Park trip was a day of discovery and friendship that taught us so much about the beautiful animals we share our planet with. To our wonderful KG2 students: you handled the big day like true professional explorers. May you always keep that sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around you.

Stay Wild, KG2!

Camels Grade

Small Steps, Big Hearts, Giant Leaps

A year ago, we walked through the door, Ready to learn and ready to soar.

We’ve grown a foot taller (it’s easy to tell!) With gaps in our smiles where our baby teeth fell.

We started as Inquirers, curious and bold, Watching science and magic stories unfold. We raced cars down ramps to see friction in play, And grew green plants to brighten the day. The "digestion" experiment? Oh, what a scene! With squashed-up crackers and yucky baked beans.

When screens replaced desks, we didn't give up, We filled our Resilience right to the top!

From World Book Day online to building lava lamps bright, We stayed Knowledgeable and kept our goals in sight.

We’ve blossomed in reading and writing our tales, Moving through chapters like wind in our sails. No longer just letters, but stories so grand, Shared with our friends and the best in the land.

As Caring young learners, we traveled the land, To see UAE history and lend a green handLearning how old electronics can be used once again, Becoming Principled leaders for the earth and our friends.

We’ve cheered for each other during Sports Day games, And sang out in music, our voices in flames. But best of all was the joy and the glee, Like when Ms Weller found a beetle (as big as can be!).

Through laughter and smiles, we’ve found our own way, Becoming the Risk-takers we are today. So goodbye Camel Class, we’ve had so much fun, Your journey of learning has only begun!

Caracals Grade 1

A Letter to my Caracals

To my wonderful Caracals, looking back on our year together fills me with immense pride. Joining the NLCS community this year, I wasn't sure what to expect, but you welcomed me with open arms and boundless energy. We have navigated a unique year—transitioning seamlessly between our busy classroom and our homes—but your spirit never wavered.

Whether you were hunting for magnets in your own kitchens during distance learning or redesigning parachutes to keep Mrs. Armitage safe, you tackled every task with the "pounce" that defines our class. Through every challenge, big or small, you showed determination and gave your absolute all. I am so proud of the journey we have shared and the progress you have made. Hyrax Grade 1

Dear Hyrax Class,

Since I know how much you love to listen to curious, magical and imaginative stories (as well as writing and illustrating them!) I decided to write you one of my own…

When we set sail in September, Captain Davies Jones knew it would be a spectacular voyage. Aiden was the very first to spot the sparkling shores of ‘Knowledge Island’ from the crow's nest, while Aryaveer expertly steered us safely past the rocky peaks of the Maths Mountains.

Once we dropped anchor, Bohr and Yian bravely led our expedition into the thick vines of the Phonics Forest. It was a tricky path, but Yiyang was there to carefully translate the ancient spelling scrolls so we wouldn't get lost. Whenever the trek felt a bit tiring, we could always count on Athira’s bright smile to warm our spirits, and Lena’s incredibly helpful hands to keep our explorer backpacks perfectly packed and organised.

Deeper into the island, we reached the bubbling Science Streams. George and Aanya were the first to discover the fascinating magical creatures living in the water, while Amelia expertly drew maps of their habitats in her captain's logbook. Continuing our climb, we reached the Valley of Art. There, Aria and Sitara dazzled the whole crew, using their boundless imagination to paint the grey skies with spectacular, sparkling colours to guide our way.

Suddenly, a giant, energetic playground dragon blocked our path! It wanted to race. Thankfully, Sally and Alaana laced up their lightning fast running shoes to play tag with the beast, while Luka stepped in to teach the dragon exactly how to share the golden skipping ropes fairly. To help the dragon settle down for a quick nap afterwards, Leo and Mark hummed a beautiful, cheerful melody that echoed across the whole island.

With the path finally clear, we marched toward the highest peak. It was the eagle eyed scouting of Sofiia and Amilia that finally spotted the legendary Treasure Chest of Grade 1 glowing in the distance! Simone proudly stepped forward to lift the heavy lid, but we were all amazed by what was inside. We realised then that the greatest treasure wasn't gold or jewels at all! It was the teamwork, the kindness, and the incredible learning we had built together.

And so, the fearless explorers of the Grade 1 Good Ship sailed on, ready for their next great adventure in Grade 2! Wishing you all the very best in Grade 2 my little Hyrax heroes!

Stay curious.

Ms E. Davies Jones

Leopards Grade 1

Well, what a year we have had, Leopards. I have made no secret of the fact that you are a very special class! At the beginning of the year, you settled into Grade One very quickly. You bonded well and welcomed new students exactly as we would hope at North London Collegiate School: with kindness, courtesy and consideration. I have many personal highlights from teaching the class. To name a few, I really enjoyed taking you to StudioLab, where you had the opportunity to create and explore using parts from many different technological devices. I will also always remember how incredibly hard you worked, both in person and during distance learning. Finally, and most of all, I will never forget the laughter and the fun we had together!

I have happy memories for each and every one of you. I will always remember…

Anthony for his enthusiasm in all of his lessons.

Yiyi for her sweet and kind personality.

Ayaan for his determination towards his learning.

Avyukt for his friendliness.

Akira for her studious approach.

Sandcats

Grade 1

To my darling Sandcats, I could fill a book with my love and adoration for you, but I will try to condense it onto this page!

My first memory of you all comes from before you joined Grade One in August 2025. In June, you came to watch my class perform Stella the Starfish. You sat so beautifully, and I knew then that you were something special. I couldn’t wait for you to come upstairs, and you truly exceeded my expectations.

I have so many fond memories of our year together. A highlight was our trip to the Al Shindagha Museum, where we used VR headsets to experience life as pearl divers and even falcon trainers. We explored the interactive exhibits together, you are so curious and eager to learn.

I have loved welcoming your parents into our classroom. I am so proud of you, but what matters most is that you feel proud of yourselves. Our Autumn Term Reading session was a wonderful chance for you to showcase your growing confidence and skills.

We also celebrated your learning during our Healthy Choices Exhibition. From your fitness trackers to your expressive self-portraits and delicious fruit bowls, it was a joyful way to share your hard work.

More recently, we adapted to online learning. Seeing your smiling faces and positive attitudes each day was often the highlight of my day. I am truly grateful to have shared this unique year with you.

Now we look ahead to Grade Two. You won’t be far away, so I’ll be expecting waves and hugs! Remember to be kind, show the 3 C’s, and always be yourself.

Thank you as well to your wonderful parents for their continued support. See you all soon!

With love, Ms Khan

Grade 1 Parent Reading Workshop

Dear Grade One,

When it comes to choosing our highlight for the year, I am truly spoiled for choice! Should I choose our Healthy Choices Exhibition, our trip to the Al Shindagha Museum, or the many exciting science experiments we carried out throughout the year? There is so much to celebrate. However, I have decided to shine a light on our Reading Morning.

As a teacher who is passionate about reading and writing, this moment stands out. We opened our doors to your families and invited them in to experience how we teach reading in Grade One. From developing our decoding skills to exploring our reading domains, it was wonderful to watch you read with growing confidence. Reading aloud played a big part in this, helping you to strengthen your fluency, expression, and understanding.

During the morning, you embraced every activity with enthusiasm, solving puzzles, taking part in discussions, and challenging yourselves to deepen your thinking. I was especially proud to see how you pushed your inference and prediction skills, thinking carefully about what might happen next and explaining your ideas so clearly. Seeing your parents and grandparents join in and celebrate reading alongside you is something I will remember for a very long time.

Throughout the year we have brought reading to life through drama-based activities, adding energy, creativity, and fun to our learning. From acting out scenes to even rapping along to our favourite books, you showed that reading is not only about understanding words, but about enjoying and experiencing stories in exciting ways.

Whether you are enjoying a classic Julia Donaldson story or following the adventures of Joe Perkins, our favourite Accidental Prime Minister, remember this: you are never alone as long as you have a book.

Keep reading, Grade One!

Desert Ants

Grade 2

The Desert Ants raced through the year, With curious minds and hearts sincere. From morning chats to end-of-day grins, Each lesson brought new ways to win.

Adam questioned, Allen explored, Amira and Anant’s ideas soared. Aleksei built with careful hands, While Camilo dreamed of far-off lands.

Eli laughed and Elise would shine, Our two Sophia’s stories flowed just fine. Huda listened, thoughtful and kind, Issac solved problems in record time.

Junjie worked with steady care, Kalum’s humour filled the air. Maksim tackled every task, Meharban gave each challenge a blast.

Isaac solved Mia sparkled, Muhammad led, Noah filled our days with spreadOut books and jokes and clever schemes, Sebastian chased ambitious dreams.

Tiffany painted colourful skies, Siella noticed small surpriseFilled moments others might not see, Tiana brought great energy.

We travelled through deserts, bridges, and light, Persuasive speeches and stories to write. We measured and counted and learned to explain, Then tried once more when things felt hard again.

There were Expo days and songs to rehearse, Experiments, projects, and poems in verse. There were playground memories, quiet talks too, And moments that only this class ever knew.

Now Grade 2 ends, as all years must do, But I’ll always remember this wonderful crew. The laughter, the teamwork, the growth I’ve seen — And all of the places your minds have been.

So Desert Ants, keep aiming high, Stay brave enough to always try. Be thoughtful, curious, caring too, Because the world is brighter with each of you.

Geckos Grade 2

In Geckos where friendships were already strong, A new teacher arrived, and suddenly - BONG! He was welcomed with kindness and plenty of fun, An adventure had started under the sweltering sun.

But before long, a ‘crime’ appeared on our wall, The sight of graffiti really shocked us all! When all of Grade 2 heard the terrible news, We turned into detectives and searched for the clues*!

At Dubai Sailing Club, we took to the sea, As brave and as daring as sailors can be. Then back to school for a sleepover, though truth be said: Barely anyone slept in their noisy bed!

Then suddenly learning moved onto a screen, The strangest few weeks our class had yet seen. From the lazy mornings and online dread, To… "Look - I have a cat on top of my head!"

Now shout-outs galore - everyone gets a mention, Starting with the newbies, to stop any tension: Andriana flips high and writes tales from the air, While Aviraj, Reyaan, and Zain show talent to spare.

Shihan won the music comp with a classical song, While Shivam (like Ronaldo) runs fast and kicks strong. Faith is our dynamite, debating with heart, And Celine is our artist, creating her art.

Alaia, Ayla, and Mia - the chatty Demon Hunter crew, While Mimi and Anouya show brilliance in all that they do. Juma speaks of his camels and heritage so grand, While Saalim is the kindest boy in the land.

Ethan, Roni, and Rakan - a cheeky-chap posse, With Marcus joining in the fun like a true Aussie! Joseph is principled, always doing what’s right, With Yuna, whose talent is spectacularly bright.

Mohamed plays chess, but he’s met his match here, While we miss Seah, Rian and Elia, who we wish were still near. We’ve navigated ‘Safe Zones’ and stayed out of the heat, Making it to the end is a brilliant feat!

But the best ‘Safe Zone’ found in the whole school, Was actually in Geckos, because you lot are cool! Keep your Gecko-grip tight as you reach for the sky, You’re all ready to conquer the world - and to fly!

Wait - Geckos have feet that stick fast to a wall, So flying actually isn't really possible… But in Grade 3 you’re all be birds - so take flight, Your futures will be busy but brilliantly bright!

Hedgehogs Grade 2

Hedgehogs Class

What an unforgettable year it has been with our incredible Hedgehogs. From the very beginning, they filled our classroom with laughter, curiosity, and a wonderful sense of togetherness. Each day brought new discoveries, challenges, and moments that made us smile.

One of the most special highlights of our year was our residential trip, which included a memorable school sleepover. The Hedgehogs amazed us all with their bravery, independence, and teamwork. Whether it was trying something new, supporting a friend, or simply enjoying the adventure, they truly rose to the occasion. The sleepover was filled with excitement, giggles, and moments that brought the class even closer together, memories I know we will all treasure for years to come.

Throughout the year, I have watched the Hedgehogs grow in so many ways. They have become more confident, more resilient, and more thoughtful. They have learned to challenge themselves, to keep going even when things feel difficult, and to take pride in their achievements. Most importantly, they have shown kindness, empathy, and care for one another, creating a classroom community that felt safe and happy.

It is hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful group. Each Hedgehog is unique and special, and together they have made this year truly memorable. I am so proud of everything they have achieved and the young people they are becoming.

As they move on to new adventures, I wish them all the very best. Keep shining, keep believing in yourselves, and never stop being the amazing Hedgehogs you are.

Salamanders Grade 2

A Year of Salamander Magic

What a year it has been for our talented crew, With adventures and learning in all that we do. From the streets where we studied the art of a wall, To building up structures so stable and tall. Grade 2 Memories

A Monstrously Good Time: The Grade 2 Parent Art Workshop!

Without a doubt, the absolute highlight of my year was the Grade 2 Parent Art Workshop. It was truly magical to see our classroom buzzing with such wonderful, collaborative energy. Students and their parents teamed up to tackle an exciting creative challenge, designing and sculpting their very own clay Mini Monsters.

Guided by our learning focus on how shape, texture, and materials can communicate ideas and emotions, imaginations ran wild. Looking around the room, it was heartwarming to see smiles and laughs as families rolled, shaped, and molded their colorful creations together. From silly, multi-eyed creatures to spiky, fierce little figures, every single monster was as unique as the team that built it.

These marvelous masterpieces went on to star in our spectacular Grade 2 Art Exhibition in the PAC. Seeing the immense pride on the students' faces as they showed off their family collaborations was a fantastic celebration of art, expression, and community!

PYP COORDINATOR

Dear Junior School, Message

I know it might not feel like it right now, but one day you will look back on this year and realise just how remarkable it really was.

You probably will not remember every lesson, every spelling word or every piece of homework. But you will remember what this year asked of you and what you proved you were capable of.

There were moments when school looked different. Days of learning from home, returning to classrooms, adapting to changes and doing things in ways none of us quite expected. At times, it would have been easy to feel frustrated, uncertain or tired.

But here is what I hope you notice about yourself: you kept going.

You adapted. You learnt in new ways. You supported your friends. You showed patience when things changed and courage when things felt unfamiliar. Most importantly, you discovered something powerful. You are far more resilient than you realise.

You may not have noticed it happening, but little by little, challenge by challenge, you grew.

And here is something your future self wants you to know: the things you learnt this year were not only found in books. You learnt how to persevere. How to be flexible. How to laugh when things did not quite go to plan. How to keep showing up, even when life feels unpredictable.

That matters.

So as you step into next year, carry this with you: if you can handle a year like this with kindness, courage and a cando attitude, there is very little you cannot achieve.

Keep asking questions. Keep being curious. Keep surprising yourself.

I for one can not wait to see what you achieve next year.

ASSISTANT HEAD JS (G3-G5)

This academic year marked a significant and exciting milestone in my professional journey as I stepped out of my familiar role as a Grade 5 Class Teacher and embraced the new responsibilities of Assistant Head for the Upper Junior School. While leaving the classroom was a bittersweet transition, it opened the door to a much wider perspective of our school. I knew this shift would present its own unique set of challenges, but I also knew that I could rely on the support and brilliance of the staff and students here at NLCS Dubai.

It has been an absolute privilege to connect with a wider group of our school community. Throughout the course of this year, I have been incredibly proud of the progress our students have made. In what has undeniably been a period of change, you have each demonstrated a remarkable ability to rise to the occasion and excel, even when faced with difficult circumstances.

One of the greatest joys of my new role has been the opportunity to witness the milestones that define the Upper Junior journey. It was wonderful to join many of you on your Residential trips, where I saw friendships deepen and independence flourish in the great outdoors. I was amazed by the poise of our Grade 3 speakers during their TEDstyle talks and impressed by the budding entrepreneurial spirit of Grade 4 during their high-stakes ‘Dragon’s Den’ pitches.

Perhaps most movingly, I watched our Grade 5 students pour their passion and research into the PYP Exhibition, a true culmination of their Junior School years. Celebrating your achievements at your graduation ceremony was a poignant reminder of why we do what we do; preparing you the best we can to step confidently into the Senior School. Of course, no reflection on this year would be complete without mentioning the unexpected hurdles. Little did any of us anticipate the return of Distance Learning. It was a moment that certainly stirred memories of 2020, challenging us once again to navigate a demanding, digital landscape. However, true to the NLCS spirit, our community did not just endure; we thrived.

Together, we demonstrated resilience; turning obstacles into opportunities for growth. We showed that we were adaptable by mastering new platforms and maintaining academic rigour from home. All whilst balancing the demands of screen time with a commitment to wellbeing.

The greatest reward for all this collective hard work was the immense joy of eventually welcoming everyone back to school. The corridors once again filled with the energy, laughter, and inquisitive spirit of our students.

I deeply appreciate the opportunity to work as part of such a dedicated team. It is a distinct honor to help shape the future direction of the Junior School at NLCS Dubai. As we look toward the horizon, I am filled with pride for what we have accomplished and excitement for everything we will continue to achieve together.

Cuckoos Grade 3

Dear Future Cuckoos,

If someone watched you this year, they might first notice the energy.

The kind that fills a field on National Day, bouncing higher and higher until everyone is out of breath. The kind that carries across a Sports Day field, not just in races won, but in cheers given, encouragement shared, and the quiet pride of showing true sportsmanship.

But if they looked closer, they would see something more.

They would see courage in the moments you stepped forward. Putting yourselves forward for Student Council, sharing ideas, taking responsibility, and learning that your voice matters.

They would see confidence growing. Standing in front of a room full of adults and delivering TED talks with clarity and composure, speaking as if you had always belonged there.

They would see curiosity in action. Thoughtful questions asked during your interview with Mr Locke, showing a genuine desire to understand the world beyond the classroom.

They would see determination in Maths. Knights of the Times Tables rising, and others coming so close, pushing through challenges with focus and a true growth mindset.

They would see creativity taking shape. Writers emerging, ideas forming, stories developing, and voices beginning to feel strong and certain.

They would see pride in your class assembly, where you stood boldly and shared a message you were already living.

But above all, they would see resilience. Again and again, you adapted, adjusted, and carried on, even when things felt difficult.

Not just learning, but becoming.

Hold on to that.

Because from where we are now, it looks like the beginning of something important.

love,

Herons

Grade 3

The Herons have enjoyed a year filled with curiosity, resilience, laughter, and memorable shared experiences. This group of students brought an energy into the classroom each day that made it a truly joyful place to learn. Whether we were deep in discussion, performing on stage, or reflecting together after a busy day, there was always a strong sense of enthusiasm and community.

One of the greatest highlights of the year was our residential trip to the desert. For many students, it was an opportunity to step beyond their comfort zones, spend time away from home, and experience a very different environment together. Watching them encourage one another, embrace new experiences, and build lasting friendships was incredibly rewarding.

The theme of risk-taking became an important part of our year, particularly during our class assembly. Standing in front of a large audience takes genuine courage, yet the Herons approached the challenge with confidence, humour, and determination. It was wonderful to watch as everyone grew in self-belief and supported one another throughout the process.

This year has also brought challenges, especially during periods of distance learning. Despite the uncertainty, the Herons showed remarkable patience, adaptability, and resilience. They continued to engage positively with learning and demonstrated maturity well beyond their years.

Probably my favourite part of the year, however, was watching the students develop their TED Talks. Through researching vulnerable and endangered species, the Herons began to understand the importance of protecting the natural world and the responsibility we all share as global citizens. I was incredibly proud of the compassion, knowledge, and passion they demonstrated as they encouraged others to care about the future of our planet.

Alongside this, the Herons immersed themselves in meaningful learning experiences throughout the year. From our Ellis Island migration day to exploring powerful texts such as The Firework Maker’s Daughter and The Matchbox Diary, the students continually reflected on themes of identity, courage, belonging, and resilience.

To the Herons class of 2026: thank you for your humour, your warmth, and your boundless spirit. Never lose your curiosity, your compassion, or your willingness to take risks and make a difference in the world.

Kingfishers Grade 3

The Grade 3 Kingfishers

have spent this year truly "Flying High."

The Grade 3 Kingfishers have spent this year truly "Flying High." From the very first day, this class has shown an incredible thirst for discovery and a knack for turning every lesson into a shared adventure. We didn’t just study the world from our desks; we immersed ourselves in it with curiosity and courage. We trekked through the vibrant, tropical canopies at The Green Planet, marveling at the biodiversity of our world, and later traveled back in time for our Ellis Island Immersion Day. Watching the students step into the shoes of brave immigrants—carrying their "luggage" and their dreams—was a testament to their empathy and their ability to bring history to life.

This year also brought unique challenges that required us to adapt our wings. While distance learning presented its hurdles, it offered us a rare and valuable opportunity to slow down. In the quiet of our own spaces, we found the room to think deeply and reflect on our studies in ways we hadn't before. It transformed our perspective, proving that learning isn't just about the pace, but about the depth of our understanding.

The true magic of the year, however, always returned to the moments between the breaks. Our classroom—both virtual and physical—was a place where learning was always engaging. Whether we were deconstructing a complex word, mastering a new mathematical strategy, or collaborating on a creative project, the Kingfishers proved they are a group that seeks to learn as much as they possibly can.

Above all, this year was defined by laughter and joy. We have been a class that knows how to work hard, but also one that knows how to share a joke and celebrate one another's successes. As these students prepare to leave the nest and head toward Grade 4, they take with them a toolkit full of knowledge and a bond built on kindness and fun. I am incredibly proud of every single student; keep soaring, Kingfishers—the sky is truly the limit!

Owls Grade

3

To my wonderful Owls,

As the sun sets on our time together in Grade 3, I find myself looking back at a year that was nothing short of extraordinary. From the very beginning, you proved yourselves to be a class of thinkers, adventurers, and resilient learners who brought energy to every single lesson.

Our journey took us from the golden dunes of our desert residential to the lush, humid canopy of the Green Planet. Whether we were trekking through the sand or exploring an indoor rainforest, your curiosity never wavered. That same passion for the natural world shone through during our TED Talks, where you spoke with such authority and conviction about biodiversity. You didn’t just learn facts; you became advocates for our planet.

One of my favorite memories will always be our Ellis Island Day. Watching you step into the shoes of 1900s immigrants, navigating the uncertainty and hope of a new world, showed me just how much empathy and creativity you possess. You brought history to life with such spirit!

Even when our physical classroom shifted to distance learning, the "Owl spirit" remained unbroken. You adapted to screens and digital check-ins with a maturity that blew me away, proving that our community exists far beyond four walls. Even our dress up afternoon demonstrated creativity and imagination. We capped off our scientific explorations by creating volcanoes, a fittingly explosive end to a year of big ideas and even bigger hearts.

Thank you for the laughter, the hard work, and for being such an inspiring group of global citizens. As you move forward, remember the strength you showed this year. You are ready for any adventure that comes next!

Sandpipers Grade 3

To the Spectacular Sandpipers,

As this year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary journey we have shared. Our time together has been anything but ordinary, yet through every twist and turn, you have shown the spirit of true leaders.

We have navigated a year of constant change, moving from the buzz of our classroom to distance learning, back to school, and then to our screens once more. Through distance learning and even when the storms hit Dubai, your resilience never wavered. You adapted with a smile, proving that a Sandpiper can continue flying through any gale. While I am sad that some of our precious time had to be spent behind a screen, you made every virtual moment count with your hard work and infectious love.

A true highlight of our year was your outstanding assembly about diversity. It was a beautiful reflection of the amazing diversity we have within our own four walls. Seeing the way you respect and celebrate all our differences—from our unique cultural backgrounds to the beauty in body diversity—has been truly moving. You don’t just acknowledge differences; you champion them.

That same empathy for others shone through during our drama day at Ellis Island. As you stepped into the shoes of immigrants, you didn't just learn history; you felt it. This deep connection to diversity and your ability to lead with kindness, empathy, and tolerance is why I know the future is brighter. You are the next generation of leaders who I know will make the world a kinder place, for everyone.

I have truly loved being your teacher. Thank you for all the laughs and the joy you brought to my life every day. You have left a lasting mark on my heart, and I am so proud of the people you are becoming. I hope Remy grows up to be as kind as you all.

Grade 3 Sharing the Planet Ted Talks

Throughout our Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry, Grade 3 students became passionate advocates for the world around them. Exploring topics such as ecosystems, biodiversity, climate change and the impact of human actions on animals and the environment, students developed thoughtful and inspiring TED Talk presentations to share their learning.

With confidence, pride and passion, they presented their ideas to parents, Ms Bowels, Mr Helliwell and Mr Locke, speaking with maturity, courage and purpose. From powerful messages about endangered animals to thoughtprovoking discussions surrounding sustainability and conservation, each presentation reflected the students’ growing knowledge, compassion and sense of responsibility as global citizens.

We were incredibly proud of the effort, dedication and enthusiasm shown by every student throughout the process. Their voices reminded us all that even the smallest actions can create meaningful change for the future of our planet.

I am passionate about animals and I liked that our Ted Talks focused on this. We were able to inform people of the dangers they are facing so they could take action too. Oliva Collins

I really enjoyed the Ted Talks because we got to use a range of technology to create our presentations. It was a fun experience and we got to present our work to our parents Vaarin

As the year draws to a close, I have been reflecting on what a brilliant journey we have shared together. From the very beginning, Arabian Horses has been a class full of energy, humour, curiosity and kindness. Each of you has brought something special to our classroom, and together you have helped create a place where ideas are shared, questions are welcomed and learning feels exciting.

This year, you have shown what it means to be true inquirers. Whether you were exploring new ideas in our Units of Inquiry, tackling challenging maths problems, developing your writing, or working together during group projects, you have shown resilience, creativity and a willingness to improve. I have loved watching you grow in confidence, take risks in your learning and support one another along the way.

One of the things that makes Arabian Horses so special is the way you celebrate each other. You have learned to listen, collaborate, encourage and lead. There have been moments of laughter, moments of challenge and moments where I have felt incredibly proud of the maturity and determination you have shown.

As you move forward, I hope you remember that success is not just about getting everything right the first time. It is about trying again, asking thoughtful questions, being brave enough to make mistakes and kind enough to help others when they need it.

Thank you for making this year so memorable. You have filled our classroom with personality, imagination and joy. I feel very lucky to have been your teacher, and I know that each of you has the potential to achieve amazing things. Keep galloping forward, Arabian Horses — with courage, kindness and confidence.

Gazelles Grade 4

The Gazelles Class has truly been a class to remember. This year has been filled with laughter, resilience, creativity, kindness, and so many unforgettable moments together. From exciting classroom discussions to sports day, house events, the well-being day and of course the residential trip, and everyday moments of teamwork and friendship, each one of you helped make our classroom a special place to learn and grow.

Every member of the Gazelles brought something unique to our class family. Aaron and Yaseen inspired us with their passion and determination in football, while Ameyaa and Victoria showed fantastic dedication on the tennis court. Itan’s love for basketball, Sarah’s skiing adventures, and Inara’s gymnastics talents reminded us all about the importance of perseverance and practice.

Our creative minds shone brightly too. Avy’s sketching, Fedor and Vladimir’s drawing, and Reina and Ira’s painting brought imagination and colour into our classroom. Marius impressed us with songwriting, and May’s piano playing showed the beauty of commitment to music and the arts.

We also celebrated curious thinkers and problem-solvers. Circle’s coding skills, Jason’s talent for fixing things, Judy’s interest in gadgets, and Alex’s passion for maths all showed how exciting learning can be. Aleksei and Mohammad brought enthusiasm through gaming, while Leo B’s love of Formula 1 and Leo, Nia and Shiya’s passion for reading highlighted how hobbies can inspire knowledge and imagination. Ruiwen’s gift for making friends helped everyone feel included and valued.

As you move into next year, remember to continue following your passions, working hard, and believing in yourselves. Talent is important, but effort, kindness, courage, and determination are what truly help people succeed.

Gazelles, you should all feel incredibly proud of how much you have achieved this year. Keep dreaming big, supporting one another, and never stop discovering what makes you shine.

Oryx Grade 4

To my incredible Grade 4 Oryx,

What a wonderful year of discovery it has been!

We began our journey as explorers, braving the Antarctic chill in our warmest coats right here in the classroom, only to end up under the stars for our desert residential in February. Watching you develop your independence, drive offroad in the open top Jeeps, and spot our namesake Oryx in the wild, were true highlights of the year.

Whether we were conducting science experiments, performing at our Poetry Slam, or celebrating National Day on the field, your energy was infectious. From the heartfelt themes of Cloud Busting, to the laughter of Odd Sock Day, you have built a classroom community that is as kind as it is brilliant.

Even when we were physically apart during distance learning, the Oryx spirit never wavered. Throughout our online lessons, snack and chat sessions and Friday Blooket battles, you proved that we could stay close, even when far apart.

As you move to Grade 5, remember: once an explorer, always an explorer. Keep asking big questions and looking out for one another. I will miss you all dearly!

Best wishes,

Wolves

Grade 4

What an incredible year it has been for the Grade 4 Wolves! From our very first day, you have truly embodied our class motto: Power of the pack, never leave anyone back. I am immensely proud of the unbreakable togetherness you have built. Our wolfpack has consistently demonstrated the 3Cs of care, courtesy, and consideration in everything we do, creating an environment where absolutely everyone feels safe, valued, and ready to thrive.

Throughout this academic year, you have faced every obstacle with remarkable resilience, excelling at all challenges. What makes me most proud is not just your individual success, but how you worked side by side to coach and support each other. You have learnt so much and progressed beautifully, all whilst having fun and enjoying your learning journey together.

Our togetherness extends far beyond our classroom walls. Even though I could not be with you on the Grade 4 residential, I was incredibly proud to hear how you maintained our strong bond and had a wonderful time. Remarkably, you kept that same togetherness shining bright during distance learning as we still collaborated and played games, all whilst online.

On a personal note, my heart was deeply touched by how beautifully you welcomed the birth of my daughter. Your sweet messages and pure excitement warmly welcomed her right into our wolfpack, and I will never forget your incredible kindness.

Grade 4 Wolves, you have shown exactly what it means to be a true team. As you move forward to Grade 5, remember everything you have accomplished here. Keep lifting each other up, continue celebrating your shared victories, and always carry the fierce loyalty of the pack within your hearts. I will miss each and every one of you very much. Have a truly fantastic summer break!

Grade 4 Well-Being Day

On Friday 26th September, as part of the Grade 4 Unit of Inquiry on the brain and how we learn, students took part in a special Mindfulness and Well-Being Day designed to nurture both their minds and bodies. The day focused on helping students understand the importance of mindfulness, emotional resilience and self-care in supporting learning. Students arrived at school dressed in comfortable clothing and carrying soft toys that brought them comfort, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere from the very beginning. Throughout the day, students explored a range of activities that encouraged them to slow down, reflect and connect with the present moment.

Through mindful breathing exercises and guided visualisation, students learned practical strategies to calm their minds, focus their attention and manage emotions. These experiences helped students make meaningful connections between mindfulness and the way the brain learns best. The day also highlighted how taking care of our emotional well-being can improve concentration, resilience and positive relationships. In addition to mindfulness activities, students expressed themselves creatively through beautiful watercolour artwork inspired by feelings of calm and balance. They also participated in fitness and yoga sessions, discovering how movement and exercise can support both mental and physical health. The event was a wonderful opportunity for students to develop lifelong strategies for well-being while deepening their understanding of the brain and learning. Grade 4 students embraced the experience with enthusiasm, reflection and positivity, making it a memorable and meaningful day for all involved.

Leo Banti - “I loved how the activities were so relaxing and peaceful which had an impact on my well-being. Now, I have strategies to support me when I feel stressed.”

Reina Agrawal - “I enjoyed trying out the different activities. My particular favourite was the watercolour painting as it made me feel calm and happy.”

Eagles

Grade 5

What an exceptional year it has been for the Grade 5 Haliaeetus leucocephalus, or more commonly known to the school community as the rest of the school, as the Eagles.

This year, we proved that we don’t just fly, we fly high. We faced our fair share of challenges with great resilience, turning every obstacle into a stepping stone. A huge highlight for everyone was our Residential trip to Kalba, where bonds were strengthened and memories were made far beyond the classroom. What a wonderful experience for everyone involved, with my particular favourite part being the hike, with breathtaking views and the shared sense of accomplishment as we reached the summit together.

Within our classroom, one amazing highlight was when the Eagles communicated their incredible dedication to learning during our MiniExhibition on Civilisations. We watched with pride as our classroom was transformed into a breathtaking Museum of Ancient Rome. Our students stepped into their roles as knowledgeable curators, guiding visitors through history with passion and precision, demonstrating amazing communication skills that impressed every visitor (we even learned some Latin!)

We have also seen the emergence of true Leadership, having a variety of leaders in our class, which is a testament of your diverse and principled learner attributes. Our principled students have stepped up as outstanding role models, demonstrating what it means to lead with integrity and kindness. Whether as artists, mathematicians, historians, scientists, or authors, the Eagles aren't just preparing for the future, they are already shaping it.

Fly high, Class of 2026.

Falcons

Grade 5

To my wonderful Falcons, what an incredible journey we have shared! As I look back on our time together this year, I am filled with pride. You have set the bar incredibly high for every class that follows.

During the year, you have showcased your skills and knowledge through a variety of units. At the start of Grade 5, you showed a deep understanding of leadership and many of you have demonstrated these qualities in roles such as House Captain, Music Maestro, Wellbeing Ambassador, and Sports Leader, leading by example for the younger years.

The academic highlight was undoubtedly the Mini Exhibition, where you dived into the world of Ancient Egypt with such passion. Seeing you take ownership of your learning: from the detailed research boards to the masterpiece that was our Tutankhamun sarcophagus, you showed me exactly how much you can achieve when you work as a team. You transformed our space into a gallery of history and the pride you took in your work was wonderful to witness.

Throughout the year, we have been on various trips which have enhanced our learning. Our visit to the Etihad Museum allowed you to connect with history, but our residential trip to Kalba stands out as a true highlight. We may not have slept very much in those cabins but you certainly made plenty of memories! Whether you were navigating the outdoors or sharing a laugh in the early hours of the morning, that trip proved that the Falcon spirit is built on friendship and fun.

As you prepare to leave Grade 5 and go towards the new adventures of Senior School, I want you to remember how much you have grown. You have shown resilience, creativity and kindness every single day. Thank you for working hard, not giving up when things have been challenging and for just being you. Keep soaring, Falcons - the sky is the limit!

Hawks

Grade 5

To the Hawks,

As we approach the end of our journey together, I’ve been looking back on what a truly incredible and unusual year it has been. It has been a privilege to watch you all evolve into such capable, confident young people, ready to take on whatever comes next. We’ve shared so many brilliant moments, and I wanted to capture a few of my personal highlights that I’ll carry with me.

We kicked off the year by diving deep into the dark world of Macbeth. From decoding the witches’ prophecies to debating the downfall of kings, you tackled Shakespeare with impressive grit. The real standout, however, was our class assembly; seeing you perform our very own version "Tragedy" was a moment that will always stay with me; I will never be able to listen to the original without laughing again! From there, we ventured further back into Ancient Greece. Our classroom transformed into a mini-museum for our exhibition, and I was so impressed by your dioramas. Of course, the real star of the show was Jamal, our life-sized Trojan Horse, who definitely brought the history of the Greeks and Trojans to life.

I must also commend you on your incredible resilience during our period of distance learning. Swapping the classroom for the screen was no small feat, yet you adapted almost overnight. Your hard work didn't falter; you showed up with enthusiasm, mastered new ways of collaborating, and proved that your dedication to learning goes far beyond the four walls of a school.

We brought our year to a close with the PYP Exhibition, where your agency and independence truly shone. Watching you advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals and take real action on issues that matter to you was inspiring. The exhibition served as the perfect finale to your Junior School years, proving just how much you have grown as IB learners and global citizens.

Whether you were performing a tragedy, building ancient monuments with Jamal, or stepping out of your comfort zones, you did it all with enthusiasm and a sense of fun. I have loved being your teacher this year and watching you flourish. As you prepare to fly the nest and begin this next chapter, I have no doubt that you are all headed for great things.

Thank you for a wonderful year, Mr Collier

Kestrels

Grade 5

To the Incredible Kestrels,

As I sit down to write this, I am struck by just how much we have shared over the last ten months. To say this year was eventful would be an understatement. Between the unexpected school closures and the shift to distance learning, our classroom walls sometimes felt more like digital windows than bricks and mortar. Yet, looking back, those challenges aren't what define this year for me. What defines the Kestrels is the unshakeable resilience you showed every time we faced a new and unexpected challenge. You transitioned between screens and desks with a maturity that truly shone through.

Your time in Kalba was a turning point for this class. You navigated the mangroves, bonded around the campfire, mastered the art of archery and found your way through orienteering. I was particularly impressed by your courage during the Leap of Faith! That week was a huge opportunity and your independence really sparked. That same spirit carried into the PYP Exhibition, where you tackled complex global issues with such empathy, enthusiasm and a desire to take action and make a difference. Beyond the classroom, you stepped up as true leaders. Whether serving as House Captains, Wellbeing Ambassadors, School Council reps, or Eco-Envoys—from the Little 8 to our Art Ambassadors and Sports leaders—you took your responsibilities to heart. Among you, we have published authors, master mathematicians, and future pioneers. True examples of setting yourself goals and working hard to achieve them. Reflecting on everything you have achieved in your eleven years makes me incredibly excited and proud of the impact you are going to make in the future.

What I will cherish most, however, is your teamwork. You didn’t just work together; you genuinely celebrated each other’s successes. You are leaving Grade 5 with a level of grit and kindness that will take you far.

It has been an absolute privilege to be your teacher. I am going to miss this class immensely—though, to be honest, I might not miss 6-7 quite so much!

Keep flying high, Kestrels.

Mrs Beasant

Kites

Grade 5

It’s time to bring the academic year 2025/2026 to a close - where did the time go!?

This was a year of many "firsts" for all of us, some more unexpected than others! Ultimately, this was your first and only journey through Grade 5 and my very first year teaching in the grade. We stepped into this adventure together and I couldn't have asked for a better group of students to share the experience with. We were such a good class, they moved us across the junction to stop the other students feeling jealous!

As you reminisce about the year that has been, I hope that you think of two things. One, that it was fun. Two, that you feel as though you got the most out of it and did your best. Ultimately, those are the only things that are ever important to me - your happiness, and you achieving your huge potential as individuals.

From day one, we have been a supportive unit and I have always felt that ‘togetherness’. There has not been a single day this year where we haven’t laughed as a group, and you have mastered the perfect balance of knowing when to have fun and when to knuckle down and produce outstanding work. By being true enquirers and collaborators, you have made incredible progress and shown what it really means to love learning.

Our residential trip to the Kalba mountains was a massive highlight. Seeing you challenge yourselves socially and emotionally, trying new activities, fighting fears and simply enjoying each other's company outside the classroom was wonderful.

Aside from the residential, let’s not forget our class assembly where you took us on a brilliant trip back in time. Your confidence and stage presence, while showcasing technological advancements was excellent. This was another first, as no other class has ever had a mini roller-disco in the PAC, until now!

The most unexpected ‘first’ of the year was undoubtedly our shift to distance learning. It was a challenging time for everyone, yet you coped exceptionally well. Your supportive nature toward one another and the hard work you put into your online learning is a massive testament to your character. That hardworking attitude is going to lead you to great successes in the future.

I will always look back fondly on my time with the first-ever Kites class at NLCS Dubai and I am very proud of you all. Whatever happens in the future, remember to laugh and to enjoy the moment. The older you get, the more looking back you end up doing, so always do it with a smile!

Wishing you the very best of luck.

Ospreys Grade 5

Dear Grade 5 Ospreys,

It has been a fantastic year, and it has been a privilege to be your teacher. We have packed a lot into our time together, both inside and outside the classroom.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the laughter and joy we shared each day. In our lively debates, whether you were arguing over the best superpowers, comparing Ancient Greek gods, or tackling the SDGs, you consistently brought strong—if not out-of-the-box— arguments to the table. Another highlight was planning, writing, and performing your class assembly, where we got to include so much of what makes each of us, us. Your Aztec mini-exhibition was a great success, not only in the research but also in the presentations. This led seamlessly into an incredible PYPx. Your passion, determination, and dedication were clear, making it the perfect way to finish this year and your primary school journey.

You also kept me on my toes. Your science talks showed genuine curiosity about how the world works, and your persuasive writing pieces trying to convince me to get a class pet—specifically, a pet rock—were clever and highly effective. Then there was the maths pirate game—I will certainly never forget the intense scheming, planning, and outright stealing that took over the classroom! I will also remember our sweeter classroom routines, like the elaborate, "secret" operations to sign birthday cards without the birthday person noticing—safe to say that was not always successful!

Outside the classroom, we took our learning across the city, exploring the Dubai Frame and the Etihad Museum, and developing our drama skills in the Shakespeare Macbeth workshop. During our residential trip, it was great to see you support one another, especially when sharing your skills at the talent show.

Many of you also stepped up to take on real responsibilities this year. By serving as House Captains, Digital Leaders, Wellbeing Leaders, and Sports Leaders, you proved yourselves to be reliable role models.

As you move up to Grade 6, I want to leave you with one final thought. Beyond your academic achievements and leadership roles, I am proud of the kind, wonderful, and determined students you are.

Thank you for a great year, Ospreys. I wish you all the best in the next part of your amazing journeys.

Ravens

Grade 5

The Ravens have been a truly funny, lively, and unforgettable class who have brought so much joy, laughter, and energy into our classroom every single day. From the very beginning, they have filled our learning environment with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm, always finding ways to make each other smile and support one another through every challenge. Whether working together on projects, sharing ideas, or simply enjoying the small moments throughout the school day, The Ravens have created memories that will stay with us for years to come.

One of the most special things about this class is the individuality within it. Every student has their own unique talents, strengths, and personality, and together they have formed a wonderfully diverse and caring group. I truly believe that each member of The Ravens can be anything they want to be. With confidence, determination, and kindness, there is no limit to what they can achieve in the future.

Now we find ourselves at a crossroads, with some students preparing to spread their wings and begin exciting new journeys in different places and schools. Although it is difficult to say goodbye, it is also exciting to think about all the opportunities and adventures that lie ahead for them. It has been an absolute privilege and joy to be their teacher. I am incredibly proud of every single Raven, and I know they will continue to shine wherever their paths may lead.

Mrs Simpson

Grade 5 Mini Exhibition

In Term 1, the Grade 5 students were given the wonderful opportunity to explore ancient civilisations in a mini exhibition.

The exhibition showcased our learning and research about ancient civilisations such as Mesopotamia, the Incas, the Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, the Shang Dynasty, and the Aztecs. It was a fully immersive experience, allowing parents and relatives to explore each civilisation as if they were visiting a museum. Each room provided a new and exciting experience. The creativity was clear as classes created ancient games, built models of ruins, and even took on roles in expressive dramas captured on film.

The Grade 5 classes built many amazing sculptures and creations related to their specific civilisations, as well as writing very descriptive paragraphs to inform parents about different aspects of their chosen cultures. Parents really enjoyed coming to school to see our civilisations, and it was so much fun to show off our work.

We enjoyed learning about and researching the different empires, while also having fun creating our models, games, and videos. We loved learning how inventions from the past continue to impact modern life today. It is amazing how influential these civilisations have been in our everyday lives.

ResidentialGrade 2

Our Grade 2 Residential at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club was filled with adventure, discovery and unforgettable memories. Students embraced a range of exciting activities including sailing, sketching, beach games, surf life saving, conservation work and fieldwork connected to their water unit, showing curiosity, teamwork and courage throughout. Back at school, the fun continued with dinner, tent set-up, a campfire with toasted marshmallows and a special sleepover with friends. From early morning wake-up calls to sharing new experiences by the sea, the residential was a wonderful opportunity for students to build independence, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories beyond the classroom.

ResidentialGrade 3

Our Grade 3 students enjoyed an unforgettable residential experience at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. They approached every activity with enthusiasm, positivity, and a willingness to try new things, stepping outside their comfort zones and supporting one another throughout. This experience truly reflected what it means to be an NLCS student.

During the trip, the students demonstrated many of the IB PYP Learner Profile attributes. They showed courage and resilience as Risk-Takers, care and kindness as they supported and encouraged each other, and strong communication skills as they worked together and formed new friendships.

It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, filled with lasting memories that the students will treasure for years to come.

ResidentialGrade 4

Our Grade 4 students also had an incredible residential experience at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, where they immersed themselves in the unique desert environment and stayed in traditional Bedouin-style tents. Throughout the trip, they embraced every opportunity to learn, explore, and challenge themselves.

The students took part in a wide range of exciting activities, including wildlife watching, desert safari drives, bushcraft skills, outdoor cooking, animal tracks and signs, and even hands-on paleontology experiences. Each activity helped them develop a deeper understanding of the desert ecosystem and the importance of conservation. It was a truly memorable experience that built confidence, strengthened friendships, and created lasting memories for all involved.

ResidentialGrade 5

The Grade 5 residential trip to Kalba Mountain Camp in Sharjah was an unforgettable three-night adventure filled with challenge, teamwork, and discovery. Throughout the trip, students took part in exciting activities including trekking, orienteering, archery, bushcraft, a high ropes course, mangrove exploration, and a variety of teambuilding challenges. The experience encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones, develop resilience and independence, and strengthen friendships while creating lasting memories together. The residential ended with a special campfire evening, where students gathered together to toast marshmallows and reflect on an incredible experience.

VICE PRINCIPAL PASTORAL CARE

What a year it has been for Senior School at NLCS Dubai. We began 2025–26 with the largest cohort in the history of the school, and from the very first day there was an unmistakable sense of energy, ambition and community across the campus. Our Big 8 student leadership team set the tone brilliantly, championing student voice, leading with integrity and helping to shape meaningful change within the school community. Their impact has been significant, and they leave behind a strong legacy for the next generation of student leaders to build upon. One of the standout moments of the year was undoubtedly our final Winter Term Assembly and the unforgettable “12 Days of NLCS” performance, skillfully written, hugely entertaining and a perfect reflection of the warmth, humour and talent that make this community so special.

Throughout the year, House competitions continued to sit at the very heart of Senior School life, driving connection, belonging and a healthy sense of rivalry. From Sports Day and Swim Galas to Public Speaking, House Music and the Spelling Bee, students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and spirit. House Song, as always, was an absolute highlight. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity, teamwork and house pride. Huge credit must go to the students and staff who dedicated so much time and energy to making these events such memorable experiences. As this yearbook goes to print, anticipation is still building as we wait to discover who will ultimately be crowned House Champions for 2025–26.

Beyond the classroom, the richness of our wider community has been extraordinary. International Day was bigger and better than ever before, celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of the wonderful country we are privileged to call home. Our Parents’ Guild Winter Fair brought families together for a beautiful afternoon on the field filled with games, laughter and incredible food. Meanwhile, events such as Desert Dance, DofE and BSME competitions kept students and staff busy well beyond the school day, continuing to strengthen the sense of community and “quiet excellence” that defines NLCS Dubai.

And then, in late February, the year took an unexpected and challenging turn with the onset of regional conflict. It was a period of uncertainty that none of us anticipated, yet during those difficult weeks the strength of the NLCS community truly shone through. The resilience, maturity and positivity shown by our students were remarkable, while the support and partnership from parents and the wider community reminded us all of the power of connection and compassion. Our values of Care, Courtesy and Consideration became more important than ever, and together we navigated a period that will long remain part of our collective story. Particular congratulations must go to our Grade 10 and Grade 12 students, who faced significant moments in their educational journeys with grace and determination. We could not be prouder of all that our students, staff and families have achieved together this year.

As we look ahead to 2026–27, we do so with hope for greater peace and stability across the region, and with immense gratitude for this extraordinary community.

Warmest regards,

Vice Principal Pastoral Care

VICE PRINCIPAL ASSESSMENT AND CURRICULUM

This year has further cemented my belief in the extraordinary nature of our community. In my first year as Vice Principal (Curriculum), I have been profoundly moved by the way our students, staff, and families have navigated the complexities of our time with such grace, resolve, and collective strength.

In what has undoubtedly been a period of testing times given the regional context, the NLCS spirit has shone more brightly than ever. The ease with which our community adapted to online learning at short notice was a testament to our agility, but it was the caring community spirit - personified in our community events and the way we supported one another - that truly defined our year. These moments served as a poignant reminder that while academic excellence is our goal, it is our shared humanity that forms our foundation.

Innovation has also sat at the heart of our academic landscape this year. The 1:1 Google Chromebook programme has been a resounding success, revolutionising the classroom experience and fostering a culture of digital scholarship. It was a particular pleasure to showcase this progress to our wider community through our Google Showcase Video and our Open Classroom initiative, both of which highlighted the vibrancy and sophistication of our modern learning environment.

I must reserve a special mention for our Grade 10 and 12 students. Their response to the unexpected cancellation of their final examinations was nothing short of remarkable. While I understand the initial disappointment of not being able to sit these assessments, the resilience and adaptability they have shown in the face of such uncertainty are qualities that no exam could ever fully measure. These traits will undoubtedly serve them as they move into their next chapters.

As we conclude this year, we do so with the knowledge that we are part of a community that does not merely withstand challenges but thrives because of them. Here’s to NLCS Dubai - a place where resilience, innovation, and character continue to flourish.

Vice Principal Assessment and Curriculum

NLCS Dubai
Thomas Jacobs

This year, students truly embodied curiosity, confidence, and intellectual adventure through their commitment to the Junior Bryant Award ECA. Throughout the year, they explored a wide range of fascinating topics, demonstrating courage in public speaking, creativity in presentation, and a genuine passion for learning.

From an insightful presentation on Uranium and its impact on the modern world to captivating demonstrations of Card Magic, students continually impressed audiences with their knowledge and enthusiasm. Other presentations explored topics such as Guinea Pigs, the Diet of Monkeys, and the origins of phobias, reflecting impressive research, preparation, and confidence.

By successfully completing all four core components of the programme — Physical, Service, Skill, and the Independent Day Hike — our Grade 5 students have shown resilience, personal growth, and a willingness to challenge themselves. Well done to every student for embracing new experiences with enthusiasm and courage. Your curiosity and determination have inspired everyone around you, and Sophie Bryant would undoubtedly be proud of all you have achieved this year.

Duke of Edinburgh

A Journey of Growth and Achievement

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme enjoyed a remarkable year, with more than 90 students from Grades 8 and 9 completing their Bronze practice and qualifying expeditions in the rugged Hajar Mountains of Fujairah. Surrounded by dramatic landscapes, students navigated challenging trails, conquered steep climbs, and developed essential life skills including resilience, leadership, teamwork, and campcraft. Throughout the expeditions, many students grew in confidence as they pushed beyond their comfort zones and embraced the spirit of adventure.

Building on this success, over sixty Grade 10 and 11 students travelled to Switzerland to undertake the Adventurous Journey component of their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards. Based in the stunning Four Valleys region of the Swiss Alps and supported by Les Elfes International alongside NLCS Dubai staff, students completed a series of demanding multi-day expeditions through remote alpine terrain. Carrying all their equipment and supplies, students demonstrated independence, perseverance, and teamwork as they navigated mountain routes, established campsites, and adapted to the physical and mental challenges of high-altitude trekking.

The Silver Award participants completed both practice and qualifying expeditions, while Gold candidates undertook even more rigorous four-day journeys that tested their endurance, decision-making, and leadership skills in some of the most challenging sections of the Verbier alpine region. Through rapidly changing weather, steep ascents, and long days of trekking, students supported one another and showed exceptional maturity and determination.

These experiences embodied the core values of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award: service, physical wellbeing, skill development, and personal growth. Students returned with lasting memories, stronger friendships, increased selfconfidence, and a globally recognised achievement that reflected their resilience and character. The expeditions also echoed the adventurous legacy of Dr Sophie Bryant, former Headmistress of NLCS London, whose passion for mountaineering and the outdoors continues to inspire students today.

Winter Fair

The annual Parents Guild Winter Fair, held on 14th February, was a phenomenal success, bringing the school community together for an unforgettable day of fun and excitement. With the creative theme of ‘Back to the Future’, families enjoyed a wide range of activities including inflatables, a silent disco, time-warp games, science explorers, entertainers, and a popular petting zoo. HAFEET HOUSE

As I prepare to step down as Head of House, I find myself looking across a sea of vibrant yellow and feeling a profound sense of pride for everything we have achieved during this "Year of the Wolf." This year, Hafeet House has truly come into its own, evolving from a determined pack into a dominant force within the school community. We have officially shattered all previous expectations, most notably by securing second place on Sports Day, the highest ranking our house has ever achieved in its history. This milestone wasn't just about athletic prowess; it was a testament to every student who gave their absolute all on the track and field. Our momentum didn’t stop there, as we proved our versatility by claiming the silver trophy in both House Sailing and House Climbing, demonstrating that whether we are on the water or scaling the walls, the Hafeet spirit is unshakable.

The talent within this house extends far beyond the physical, as evidenced by our spectacular performance in House Song, where our collective harmony and dedication earned us another hard-fought second place. As I hand over the reins, the pack remains hungry for the challenges that lie immediately ahead in House Drama and House Chess. We are especially focused on House Maths; having dominated the competition for two consecutive years, we have strategically placed our Joker on the event, confident that our streak of mathematical brilliance will continue. To our Grade 12 and Grade 10 students, as you move toward your next great adventures, do so with the knowledge that you have been part of something special. Whether you are graduating or transitioning into the next phase of your senior schooling, take that signature Hafeet grit and resilience with you. It has been the honor of a lifetime to lead a house that balances such fierce competitiveness with genuine kindness and pack loyalty. Stay bold, and always carry the strength of the wolf in your hearts.

JAIS HOUSE

Rrobert Rudling

This academic year has been a testament to the NLCS spirit, defined by resilience, kindness and an unwavering sense of community. Despite navigating a landscape of challenges, from the complexities of regional uncertainty to the sudden shift to online learning, the Jais House has not only persevered but thrived as a second family.

Our students have acquitted themselves exceptionally, mastering new digital frontiers with the introduction of Google Classrooms and Chromebooks. While distance learning presented hurdles like digital fatigue, our pastoral sessions remained a vital anchor. We prioritised wellbeing by adjusting schedules to allow for morning preparation and focused on building positive relationships, safe internet use and career exploration through UniFrog.

The ‘Jais Bears’ demonstrated their characteristic passion across a vibrant calendar of events. From the swimming gala and public speaking to a magnificent Senior School production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Jaisians shone brightly. On the pitch, stellar performances in basketball and football, combined with a strategic ‘Joker Card’ in sailing, a comprehensive win in the house climbing have placed Jais in a very close battle to regain the House Cup as we head towards the final stretch of the year.

We celebrated a bittersweet transition in leadership. Our deep gratitude goes to outgoing House Captain Allegra Kelly and her team, Millie, Jude and their peers for their dedication. We also officially welcomed our new Student Leadership Team for 2026/27, selected through a rigorous process that showcased the immense talent within the House.

While the usual anticipation of final examinations for Grades 10 and 12 has shifted following their cancellation, our focus remains on supporting these cohorts as they prepare for their next chapters. We wish our leaving students the very best for the future; they leave Jais House with our full pride, and we hope to welcome them back to the school one day, in one capacity or another, as valued alumni. During this transition, we remind our community to value ‘offline’ moments, sharing a laugh, a meal or a chocolate biscuit.

Thank you, parents, for your continued partnership and trust. Together, we continue to believe today and inspire tomorrow.

JAVI HOUSE

What an incredible year of collective effort, spirited competition, and outstanding achievements! Javi truly dominated the leaderboard this year, showcasing immense talent and dedication across a range of activities. We celebrated well-deserved first-place victories in four major House competitions: House Swimming, Football, Basketball, and Photography. This breadth of success, spanning both the athletic arena and creative pursuits, highlights the diverse strengths within our ranks.

While we are celebrating numerous triumphs, we must also acknowledge the tenacity we displayed in the annual House Song competition. Despite maintaining a three-year streak of coming last, our House rallied together, and this year’s performance was undeniably our best yet, demonstrating that commitment and passion are just as important as the final score.

Beyond competitions, the year demanded flexibility, and our House met the challenge with remarkable resilience. During periods of online learning, we adapted seamlessly to video calls and Google Classrooms, showcasing our ability to pivot and support one another, no matter the circumstances. This strong, welcoming environment was evident in how quickly our new students integrated into the community; they joined the school and immediately got involved in the competitions and embodied the House spirit straight away. Their energy has been an infectious and vital addition to our House dynamic.

As we look ahead, we must take a moment to say a heartfelt farewell to our fantastic leadership team. Their dedication, guidance, and passion have been instrumental in shaping this year's successes and fostering a truly supportive environment. We are deeply grateful for their outstanding service and the legacy they leave behind. At the same time, we look forward with great excitement to welcoming our new members who will undoubtedly carry the torch of Javi excellence into the next academic year. Congratulations on a magnificent year!

YIBIR HOUSE

This academic year at NLCS Dubai has been a remarkable journey for Yibir, defined by spirit, resilience, and collective achievement. As Head of House, it has been a privilege to witness “Team Yibir” thrive across a wide range of House events and challenges. This year has seen notable success in major House competitions, particularly Sports Day and House Song, where our spirited rendition of “I Want It That Way” brought energy and unity to the stage. These moments reflect not only talent but also the strong sense of identity and camaraderie that defines the Lean Green Fighting Machine, central to this success has been the exceptional dedication of our student leadership team.

House Captain Devica Sadarangani, followed by Isabella Irwin, provided exemplary guidance and commitment throughout the year. A special acknowledgment goes to Lamya Zargarian, whose consistent effort, organisation, and presence have been invaluable in sustaining the momentum of the House. Among the year’s highlights was the House Dinner evening, a memorable occasion that strengthened ties within the community, and created an atmosphere of warmth and shared enjoyment. Parents were given a taster of the challenges faced by our students during the Spelling Bee and Quiz. They may not have been as successful as our NLCS students at deriving the root of individual words, but they certainly showed the same enthusiasm! As the year progressed, unforeseen challenges required a transition to online learning. In response, Yibir students demonstrated the admirable resilience, adaptability, and determination.

Their ability to overcome adversity stands as a testament to their character and commitment. Looking ahead, there is every confidence that both Team Yibir and NLCS Dubai will continue to grow from strength to strength. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Assistant Head of House Mrs. Haas, who will be returning to the UK this summer. Mrs. Haas’ dedication and care has been a mainstay for all of our students, and I extend heartfelt gratitude from all at Team Yibir for her contributions.

to Mecca & Medina

The NLCS Dubai Umrah trip was a beautiful blend of learning, reflection, and adventure. Over six unforgettable days, students travelled through Makkah, Madinah, and Al-Taif, exploring sacred landmarks and discovering the rich history of Islam. The journey was deeply educational, students learned about the Prophet’s life, Islamic traditions, and the significance of each site through guided tours, discussions, and museum visits. They climbed Mount Uhud, visited the world’s first mosque, and stood where the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once walked. In between, there was laughter over shared meals, friendly competitions on long bus rides, and the joy of eating fresh strawberries in the cool Taif air. More than a trip, it was a journey that strengthened friendships, encouraged empathy, and inspired a deeper appreciation of faith and culture.

TOLERANCE AND DIVERSITY DAY

Tolerance and Diversity Day was a vibrant celebration of cultures from around the world, where students proudly shared traditions, clothing, music, and food while embracing the values of respect, inclusion, and unity.

ENGLISH

Within the halls of our fair academy, the English Department hath thrived yet another year. A fellowship of enthusiastic teachers, curious minds, and devoted readers, all united by a common purpose: to nurture a love of English within a collaborative, supportive, and ever-inquisitive community.

This year brought many triumphs worthy of record. Most noble amongst them was the introduction of our Poet Laureate leadership role. With quill in hand, our Laureate hath penned verses for school events and now labours upon her very own poetry anthology; proof that creativity flourishes mightily in our midst. Our annual Subject Week transported students to ‘Other Worlds,’ where strange realms, curious debates, and imaginative challenges inspired much discussion and delight. Meanwhile, the Great House Spelling Bee once again proved itself a highlight of the year: a fierce and glorious contest in which victory and defeat rested upon a single letter.

Beyond the classroom, our extracurricular societies continued to flourish. Debating grew ever stronger, Oasis Magazine expanded in both ambition and talent, and the Literature and Film Societies gathered enthusiastic students eager to discuss stories both classic and new.

Within lessons themselves, students explored secret worlds, dystopian futures, strange towns, and the carnivalesque through newly introduced writing portfolios, producing work filled with imagination and originality. Literature circles also brought a more collaborative spirit to reading, allowing students to share interpretations, challenge ideas, and discover the joy of stories together.

And still, some faithful companions remained ever beloved upon our shelves: the moral reckonings of An Inspector Calls, the shadowed mysteries of Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and the tragic passions of Romeo and Juliet continue to captivate each new generation of readers.

Thus concludes another chapter in the story of the English Department. A place where words hold power, imagination is celebrated, and students are encouraged not merely to read the world, but to shape it.

And now, dear reader, lend thine ear unto the verses of our Poet Laureate, whose words have brought wit, wonder, and wisdom to the year gone by.

May this poem stand as both celebration and remembrance of all that hath been achieved within our halls.

Intermission

We are not simply individuals in a building; We are but a collection of volumes still in their first draft, Awaiting completion by those in control, Negotiating with the ink of our internal intentions. The shelves are not yet full. Together, we learn how to write ourselves into existence. Our bookmarks left behind like quiet heartbeats, In the middle of sentences left hanging. Permanent promises made in ink, a tether - Of surviving the summer silence. Awaiting the next chapter.

MATHEMATICS

The Mathematics Department has enjoyed another extraordinary year, characterized by a relentless drive for discovery and a commitment to academic excellence. Our students have once again proven that their mathematical curiosity knows no bounds, tackling everything from the abstract beauty of number theory to high-level competitive engineering.

Participation remained exceptionally strong across a suite of prestigious international competitions, including the UKMT, the American Mathematics Competition (AMC), and the Waterloo University Competitions, while students pushed their problem-solving boundaries further than ever in the Challenge Me series. We also maintained our formidable reputation in the Dubai Maths Super League, where our teams showcased the quick thinking and collaborative spirit that have become hallmarks of our department.

Beyond the classroom, learning was brought to life through exhilarating STEM trips to Mercedes, providing a firsthand look at how mathematical modeling and precision engineering converge to create world-class performance. Seeing the real-world application of aerodynamics and data analysis inspired our students to see themselves not just as learners, but as the future innovators of the industry.

Broadening our students' horizons, Ms. Linhart delivered an insightful assembly on the various types of numbers, providing a fascinating framework for understanding the numerical universe, from the simplicity of integers to the complexity of irrationals. This was perfectly complemented by a captivating Nicholson Lecture delivered by Mr. Jacobs. In his talk, “Beyond Division: Why Are We Fascinated with Prime Numbers?”, he guided students through the "atoms of mathematics," exploring their role in everything from modern cybersecurity to ancient unsolved patterns.

Whether they were analyzing engine efficiency at Mercedes, exploring numerical classifications with Ms. Linhart, or debating the mysteries of primes with Mr. Jacobs, our mathematicians have shown the creativity and critical thinking necessary to navigate a complex world. The Maths Departments have had a fabulous year. The Maths Corridor has been a place where logic holds power, curiosity is celebrated, and students are encouraged not merely to solve for the world, but to calculate its infinite possibilities and shape its future. We look forward to reaching even greater heights next year!

Dr. Sri Sharma

This academic year was a defining period for the Science Department, marked by resilience, achievement, and innovation. SCIENCE

This year has been a truly outstanding one for Languages across both the Junior and Senior Schools, filled with creativity, cultural discovery, and memorable experiences for students and staff alike. From the classroom to special events, our community embraced languages with enthusiasm and curiosity.

One of the highlights of the year was Languages Week, which brought cultures to life through a range of exciting activities. Students enjoyed delicious French crêpes, explored German history while tasting traditional Berliner pastries, learned the vibrant art of Latin dancing, and discovered the beauty and tradition of Chinese tea making. The week perfectly captured the spirit of global learning that defines our department.

We also celebrated Lunar New Year with a wonderful range of food and activities generously organised by our parent community, whose support and warmth made the occasion especially meaningful. Students had many opportunities beyond the classroom as well, including the unforgettable Grade 10 French trip to the Louvre, the delightful Grade 7 French Fables recital, and inspiring guest parent speakers who shared their experiences and insights with our German students.

A special shout out goes to the Languages Society and its offshoot, the Germanists, whose energy and commitment helped create such a vibrant multilingual culture within the school. Credit must go to our entire student body for embracing every opportunity with positivity, confidence, and openmindedness. We are incredibly proud of everything achieved this year and look forward to even more adventures in languages ahead.

DesignArt

The Surrealist artist Dorothea Tanning is quoted as saying: “Art has always been the raft onto which we climb to save our sanity”. Although there have been one or two “insane” moments this year in the Art and Design Department, these have only served to fuel our creativity and inventiveness.

This year has seen considerable changes, with two new members of staff and a fond farewell to the amazing Raffy, a legend among DT technicians. October’s Inktober drawings demonstrated the incredible skills, creativity and inventiveness of our students. Art and Design Week focused on Drawing; we debated the importance of drawing, questioning “What makes a good one?” and open spaces were buzzing with various activities, from Drawing with Ketchup to The World’s Largest Drawing, ably led by our enthusiastic and talented Grade 11 Artists. Several Societies take place under the umbrella of Art and Design: Art, Fashion, Photography and Design. Artists created panels for a mural, fashion designers learned to embroider, design garments, and develop a “Rubbish to Runway” show, and the Photographers led our annual House Photography competition. We are particularly proud of our F1 in schools participants, as well as the enterprising group of G11 Design students who have been shortlisted for the “Project Design Space Competition” by the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation; we wish them every success.

Online learning did not dampen creativity: Grade 6 designed Sustainable Spinners, using recycled materials and found objects as well as exploring the theme of Masks. Grade 7 students have made stop motion animations, and Grade 8 dived into Architecture and making Human Figure sculptures.

On our return to school, the workshops were a hive of activity on Grade 10 Design drop down days, with an incredible variety of products taking shape, emerging, as if by magic, from 2 to 3 dimensions. We are very much looking forward to the exhibition of our Grade 12 and Grade 10 artists; the Visual Art and Design examination cohorts are congratulated for persevering with practical work under the most challenging of circumstances this year.

“We Will Rock You” is the Arts Festival theme this year, and we are eagerly anticipating a raft of activities for students to jump onto in a riot of Rock-inspired artistic “madness” - all aboard!

Mrs Judith J. Renfrew

Arabic Mrs. Rasha Elsaid

Throughout the year, the Arabic Department celebrated a range of achievements, competitions, and educational trips that enriched students’ learning experiences and strengthened their connection with the Arabic language and culture.

A major focus this year was developing reading fluency across all classes. Students regularly practised pronunciation, accuracy, expression, and pace through structured reading activities, reading aloud tasks, and exposure to familiar and unfamiliar texts. Many students also participated in the Arabic Reading Challenge competition, helping to build stronger reading habits and greater confidence. As a result, students showed clear improvement in fluency, accuracy, and independence when reading Arabic texts.

Another key success was the participation in the external Arabic Spelling Bee Competition in the Junior school. The competition supported students in developing spelling, pronunciation, and vocabulary skills in an engaging way. Six students represented the school in the external round, and we were especially proud that the school achieved first place, reflecting the students’ dedication and the department’s ongoing support.

Students also benefited from educational trips and cultural experiences throughout the year, allowing them to connect classroom learning to real-life contexts and deepen their understanding of Arabic language and culture. In addition, the Arabic Society played an important role in supporting the department through several meaningful initiatives. One highlight was a Senior School assembly about the importance of Arabic and why students selected Arabic for the Diploma Programme (DP). Students shared genuine experiences and perspectives, which encouraged and inspired others across the school community.

The Arabic Society also produced the Arabic School Magazine, “The Arab world: Art Unveiled” centred around the theme of entertainment in the Arab world. The online magazine included a variety of articles and interactive video links, making it informative and engaging for readers.

Islamic STUDIES

This academic year has been full of wonderful experiences and strong community engagement within the Islamic Department. We began the year with a memorable international trip to Makkah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, where Senior School students performed Umrah. It was a reflective experience, giving students the opportunity to strengthen their connection with their faith while creating lasting memories.

Throughout the year, we focused on engaging teaching approaches, particularly in the Junior School, where storytelling became a key method to bring Islamic values to life in a way that was meaningful and accessible for students.

One of the major highlights was Islamic Week, organized by the Islamic Society and led by Senior School students, which brought the school together through a range of interactive activities that celebrated Islamic identity and learning in a vibrant and engaging way. Students in Junior and Senior School also had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Islamic heritage through educational visits to the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization, where they explored diff erent eras of Islamic history and culture.

As Ramadan approached, the school was transformed with beautiful decorations, thanks to the eff orts of the Muslim Parents Committee. This was followed by Ramadan assemblies, parent-led reading sessions in the Junior School, and our largest initiative, the Ramadan Food Drive. This year, despite the shift to online learning, the school community came together to prepare and donate over 800 food boxes to families in need, exceeding last year’s eff orts.

It has been a year of real growth and meaningful impact. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making it such a success.

The week concluded with students applying their new skills, knowledge and physical abilities to an Aquathon competition.

The 50m pool hosted the open water swim, and the cross country event took place through the glorious grounds, before the prize giving ceremony and well deserved down till in the pool . With new found friends and memories students returned to Dubai ready for the final DASSA aquathon competitions in term 2.

Message

As our ninth year draws to a close, I am as immensely proud of the NLCS community as I was the day the school opened. The inspirational teachers and curious students I work alongside every day continue to shine brightly with their passion for learning and desire to improve. Resilience, collaboration, and community - along with a genuine love of learning - have been the key themes I would draw from all that has been achieved this year.

Students and teachers have embodied the NLCS ethos of ‘trying yourself out’ in abundance! Whether through trialling new ideas using digital resources, delivering a challenging Nicholson lecture for the first time, striving for excellence in a lesson, leading a society session on heart dissection, or singing a solo in front of a full PAC audience, the thirst for self-improvement and the desire to be a risk-taker have remained ever-present.

Our Founder’s Day theme, centred on legacy and connectivity to the past, reminded us why the strength of NLCS traditions is more important than ever. As a community, we focus deeply on the tradition of developing intellectual curiosity and a spirit of scholarship. In a strong community like ours, where parents, students, and teachers are committed to lifelong learning, academic ambition thrives - regardless of time, place or situation. The success of our students is firmly built on the important relationships we develop together: the rapport between teachers and students, the partnership between school and home, and the friendships which last a lifetime.

As we look forward to next academic year and the celebration of 10 years of NLCS Dubai, I would like to wish the Grade 10 and Grade 12 students well as they transition to the next stage of their studies. They have shown remarkable resilience and determination in completing their respective programmes, and will no doubt drive themselves forward to continued success. To Grade 12, some of whom I have taught since Grade 4: come back and see us soon.

Remember: ‘Once a North Londoner, Always a North Londoner.’

I wish you all a peaceful and restful summer break.

Vice Principal Academic (Teaching and Learning)

Message

Reflecting on this academic year as your MYP Coordinator, I am struck by how deeply our experiences have resonated with the IB Global Context: Identities and Relationships

This year has forced us to confront the question, “Who are we when our routines are disrupted?” Our community in Dubai faced unprecedented challenges—shifting to online learning and navigating the sudden cancellation of the Grade 10 eAssessments due to regional conflict. Yet, in the face of these events, we didn't just endure; we evolved. To our students: Your identity is not defined by a cancelled exam or an assessment rubric. It is defined by the grace with which you navigated isolation, the empathy you showed for one another, and your unwavering ability to remain curious in the face of uncertainty. You have mastered a lesson far more valuable than any syllabus could mandate: how to sustain a community when physically apart.

To our teachers: You were the anchors in the storm. You pivoted, adapted, and held space for your students’ anxieties with professionalism and heart. Your commitment ensured that while our classrooms moved to the digital realm, our learning culture remained deeply human.

To our parents: You were our silent partners. You managed the complex logistics of home-based learning while providing the emotional scaffolding your children needed to keep going.

We conclude this year not just with completed units of work, but with a redefined sense of self. We have learned that our relationships are unbreakable, our identities are stronger than any obstacle, and that no matter the setting, we are connected.

Libraries

2025 - 2026

Daffodil Library

This year marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our library. As we settled into our beautiful new space, we also embraced a new name, transitioning from the FS Library to the Daffodil Library. With the generous support of our Parents Guild, we were able to further enhance the library experience with the addition of a much loved treehouse, along with new reading benches with built-in shelving, which have quickly become favorite spots for our students. Our new location has also gifted us a garden, allowing students to enjoy reading outdoors during Dubai’s cooler months.

Even during periods of online learning, the library remained at the heart of our community. Our library team brought books to our youngest learners in Wild Roots and Studiyo, where this meaningful play based provision allowed children from Pre KG to KG2 to borrow books, return previously borrowed books, and continue developing a love of reading. Through stories, play, and familiar routines, the joy of reading remained within reach. A book is a gift you can open again and again. —Garrison Keillor

Buss Library

What a page-turner of a year it has been in the Buss Library! The students have made the library the true heart of our school, whether in person or via screens.

We started the year with a fantastic Book Worm Book Fair, setting a brilliant tone for a year full of reading. Students and parents enjoyed browsing and choosing books with the help of the amazing Book Worm staff. Beyond special events, our regular Early Bird sessions saw dedicated readers swapping books. Lunchtime sessions transformed the space into a bustling hub of discovery and relaxation, offering students an escape in a busy school day. A special mention goes to the Old Books for New Eyes ECA students. We collected 2429 books in the Term 1 book drive! Thank you to the students who have always gone the extra mile to ensure we have an impressive amount of books to donate, building libraries and changing lives. 300+ libraries have now been set up in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania!

Our commitment to reading continued virtually with recorded videos from Mrs Brown and a digital library. Mrs Brown’s dog, Arena, was a star of the story videos, joining students for a chilled out time, and we received heartening comments from around the world. Despite not being together in person, Book Week went digital and was bigger than ever! Students showed incredible creativity with challenges like reading while scuba diving or in a bath of ice, baking edible art in our Book-inspired Baking challenge, and racing through Book Bingo. It has been quite a year. Thank you all for supporting the Buss Library and for your ongoing love of reading. Keep reading, keep dreaming and see you next year!

Mrs Brown

Senior Library

As the heart of our senior school, the library has enjoyed a vibrant and transformative year, serving as a sanctuary for discovery, creativity, and student leadership across Grades 6–12. Our journey began with the annual Book Fair, an event that ignited a renewed passion for reading, setting a high-energy tone for the months to follow.

The spirit of community service took centre stage in Term 1 with the "Old Books for New Eyes" book drive. Led by a dedicated team of student ambassadors, this initiative mobilized the entire school, ultimately collecting over 2,000 books. These donations have since found new homes, extending the joy of literacy far beyond our campus walls.

Creativity flourished in Term 2 through our Library Art Project ECA. Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ celebrated book The Dot, these talented artists collaborated on a stunning collage mural. This vibrant installation serves as a permanent reminder to our students to "make their mark" and embrace their unique creative voices. I can’t wait to see what Term 3’s group will produce for an exciting new commission!

Behind the scenes, the library underwent a significant evolution thanks to the commitment of ten Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award volunteers. Their service was instrumental in the genrefication of our fiction section. By categorizing our collection into intuitive genres, these volunteers have empowered their peers to navigate our resources with ease, ensuring every student finds the perfect book to satisfy their reading needs.

We are incredibly proud of these milestones and look forward to another year of fostering a love for literature and learning. “Think before you speak. Read before you think.” – Fran Lebowitz

The evening featured an impressive variety of performances from the Senior Orchestra, Intermediate Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, and many more. Our students also achieved great success in competitions this year. In their first appearance at the prestigious ChoirFest competition, the Chamber Choir received the Judge’s Pick Award for their outstanding performance of a La La Land medley — a remarkable achievement and a sign of even greater things to come. Following the school’s recent BSME accreditation, we were proud to take our first cohort of students to St Christopher’s School in Bahrain for the Young Musicians of the Gulf competition. It was an incredible experience for all involved, and the students represented the school superbly. Special congratulations go to Yicheng Liu, who progressed to the semi-final stage.

A huge thank you must also go to Heloise and Leyla, whose passion for jazz inspired the inaugural NLCS Jazz Night. They recruited students from across the Senior School, curated the programme, performed beautifully, and eloquently compered the evening. The event was a fantastic celebration of jazz and of the remarkable talent within our school community. It has been a wonderful year for music across the school, and we look forward to even more growth, creativity, and success next year. 183

Founder's Day

Founder's Day was a memorable celebration across the school community, even though it was held virtually this year. Despite being apart, students and staff came together to honour this special tradition with enthusiasm and pride.

In the Junior School, everyone was encouraged to wear yellow in tribute to Frances Mary Buss and her favourite flower, the daffodil, creating a bright and joyful atmosphere throughout the day. Ms Peoples led a beautiful and uplifting performance of the Daffodil song, bringing everyone together in a shared moment of music and reflection. Ms Khan guided us on a fascinating virtual journey from the original site of North London Collegiate School in London to its present-day campus, helping us appreciate how far the school has come.

In the Senior School, a special online assembly featured heartfelt messages from our family of NLCS schools around the world. It was a meaningful celebration that highlighted our shared history, values, and strong sense of community—even from afar.

FRANCE Ski Trip to

The NLCS Dubai annual ski trip returned to the renowned French Alps and the sun-drenched slopes of Alpe d'Huez in February, a world-class resort famous for its extensive terrain and breathtaking views. As a cornerstone of the school’s vibrant international trips programme, the expedition provided a unique platform for students to foster independence and resilience beyond the classroom.

From the moment they arrived, the fifty enthusiastic junior and senior students from Grades 4 to 6 enjoyed superb conditions. Catering to all ability levels, from first-time beginners to confident intermediate skiers, the programme ensured everyone progressed on the snow. Students spent their days under the expert guidance of the ESF (École du Ski Français) Ski School, refining their techniques and navigating the mountain with increasing confidence. The conditions were nothing short of spectacular, with the group benefiting from some of the best snow depth and visibility the region has seen in recent years, and many students achieved their star awards at the end-of-week prize-giving ceremony.

The adventure did not end when the lifts closed. To complement their time on the slopes, the exhilarating itinerary of evening activities provided great fun. Students enjoyed the crisp mountain air while ice skating under the stars and felt the rush of adrenaline during sunset luge sessions. These communal experiences served as the perfect backdrop for building lifelong friendships and celebrating the day’s achievements. By combining athletic instruction with unforgettable activities, the trip successfully blended outdoor learning with spirited adventure. We look forward to returning next year!

MUN Junior School

This academic year has been a highly successful and engaging one for the Junior School Model United Nations cohort, characterised by a strong commitment to researching global issues and clear improvement during our weekly debates. The team's development was further highlighted by successful participation in two major events: engaging critically to draft resolutions alongside regional peers at the Dubai International Academy conference, and navigating formal committee sessions on an international platform at the NLCS London Conference. Ultimately, the most notable takeaway from the year has been the growing confidence of every student. Whether participating in weekly sessions, raising a placard at DIA, or delivering an opening address in London, the delegates have steadily developed their public speaking and negotiation skills, taking commendable steps toward becoming informed global citizens.

MUN Singapore

Our students recently traveled to Singapore to participate in a high-stakes Model United Nations conference, centered on the timely theme of "Bridges not Borders." Amidst a global climate of division, our delegates stepped up to tackle complex real-world issues, presenting meticulously researched solutions to some of the planet's most pressing challenges.

The event was a true testament to the power of the NLCS International family. It was inspiring to witness students from London, Jeju, Kobe, Singapore, and Dubai collaborate with such high levels of agency and collegiality. This interdisciplinary approach allowed them to move beyond the classroom and apply critical thinking to global diplomacy.

"The world, more than ever, requires our young people to stand up for diplomacy."

By demonstrating exceptional negotiation skills and a commitment to unity, our students proved that the next generation is more than ready to guide the world toward a more collaborative future.

C A S

What an amazing year it has been for CAS. The year began with a CAS Project Exhibition led by the Grade 12 students, showcasing a range of inspiring initiatives, including the Community Running Club, Nutrition App Development, The 100 AED Challenge, the German Reading Competition and the Cooking Club ECA. Grade 11 students have been equally busy, engaging in a variety of meaningful experiences such as participating in and exhibiting their Curriculum Science Project, teaching others to play the guitar, creating art history content, participating in the societies fair and performing at the NLCS Jazz Night. Despite spending part of the year online, students remained determined to stay active and maintain balance in their lives.

We witnessed students creating photography diaries, continuing the Community Running Club, developing home workout routines for strength training, participating in this year’s DIDI Design Competition and even delivering a Nicholson Lecture online. We are incredibly proud of everything the students have achieved this year. Their creativity, resilience, commitment and willingness to contribute to the wider community have truly embodied the spirit of CAS at NLCS. We are excited to see the innovative and inspiring projects that will be showcased in the year ahead. To our Grade 12 students, we wish you the very best as you move on to university and the next stage of your journey. Continue to stay active, seek balance, embrace new opportunities and make a positive difference in the communities around you.

COMMITTEE

Reflecting on the past academic year, the Charity Committee has been a testament to the compassion and drive that defines the NLCS community. Our mission is simple: to turn collective empathy into tangible action.

We began the year with a unique initiative that hit close to home—literally. To show our gratitude for those putting the foundations into our school’s future, the committee organized refreshments for the construction team working on our new school wing. This simple gesture of hospitality underscored a vital truth: community spirit isn’t just about global outreach; it starts with the people right in front of us.

Our calendar was anchored by several key events, most notably our annual bake sale for Breast Cancer Awareness. We were truly overwhelmed by the volume of donations from students, parents, and staff. As always, the NLCS Parents Guild was out in full force, providing an incredible array of homemade bakes and expertly managing the tills, helping us raise an incredible 20,000AED for charity. This momentum continued into our Festive Jumper Day, a vibrant success that raised vital funds for the Emirates Red Crescent while bringing a touch of holiday cheer to the corridors.

The Ramadan Food Drive was once again a defining highlight of the year, perfectly capturing the school’s ethos of service. We owe a special debt of gratitude to Mrs. Sarah Hussain and our Muslim Community Parents for their tireless efforts in coordinating this initiative. It was truly inspirational to witness the sheer quantity of donations provided; seeing NLCS students actively packing boxes to be donated to the Red Crescent was a powerful way for our community to engage with the true spirit and reflection of the Holy Month.

These achievements would not have been possible without the leadership of our Big 8 lead, Arjun Mittal, who inspires with her work ethic and dedication, and Saher Asaria, whose vision as Chair of the Charity Committee was truly exemplary. To every student, parent, and teacher who donated their time or resources: thank you. You have proven that when the NLCS community comes together, the impact is nothing short of inspirational. We look forward to seeing this legacy of kindness continue.

Language & History Trip to

CHINA

Xi’an & Beijing: A Cross-Curricular Journey

In October, our students embarked on an enriching educational trip to Xi’an and Beijing, a journey designed to bridge the gap between their History and Mandarin Chinese studies. This trip offered a unique opportunity to witness China’s vast historical timeline while practicing language skills in real-world settings.

The journey began in Xi’an, the ancient capital. At the Terracotta Army site, students saw firsthand the scale of the Qin Dynasty’s ambition. Beyond just observing, they participated in a hands-on workshop to craft their own miniature terracotta warriors, gaining a deeper appreciation for ancient craftsmanship. The cultural immersion continued with a Tai Chi session, where students practiced mindfulness and traditional movements. They also took part in a culinary lesson to learn the art of making Biangbiang noodles.

Moving on to Beijing, the focus shifted to imperial history. Climbing the Great Wall was a physical highlight, while visiting the Forbidden City allowed students to analyze the architectural symbolism of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Throughout the week, our Mandarin learners took the lead in ordering meals and interacting with locals, significantly boosting their conversational confidence.

As teachers, it was rewarding to see students connect classroom theories with these world-class heritage sites. We returned not just with photographs, but with a deeper cultural understanding and a renewed motivation for their studies. This trip truly brought our curriculum to life.

Iceland Geography Trip to

The Iceland Geography Trip 2026 was an unforgettable experience for both students and staff, offering a unique opportunity to explore some of the world’s most dramatic physical landscapes first-hand. Over the course of the trip, students travelled across Iceland’s south coast and into Reykjavík, experiencing glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, lava fields and black sand beaches that they had previously only studied in the classroom.

Highlights included visits to Reynisfjara’s famous basalt columns and black sand beach, the ice lagoons at Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón, and the retreating Sólheimajökull glacier, where students were able to observe the impacts of climate change in real time. Students also explored spectacular waterfalls including Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss and Svartifoss, each providing opportunities to discuss the powerful processes shaping Iceland’s landscapes. We also loved visiting the Sky Lagoon and having a relaxing day in the spa! Along the way, students considered topics such as glaciation, tectonic activity, coastal management, sustainability and tourism, bringing their geographical understanding to life.

The trip was also hugely rewarding on a personal level. Students embraced long travel days, unpredictable weather and busy itineraries with enthusiasm, resilience and maturity throughout. Whether hiking through national parks, standing beside glacial lagoons or exploring Reykjavík’s culture and history, they consistently represented the school exceptionally well.

The expedition reflected the Geography department’s commitment to creating ambitious, meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom. The trip provided lasting memories, strengthened friendships and inspired students to see geography as something dynamic, relevant and deeply connected to the real world.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

Reflecting on this academic year, I am reminded of the very heart of the IB philosophy: developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are equipped to navigate an ever-changing world. This year has tested that mission in profound ways, challenging us to live out the IB Learner Profile not as abstract ideals, but as daily practices.

The disruptions caused by regional conflict and the subsequent cancellation of external examinations asked us all to reconsider what it truly means to demonstrate understanding. In this context, learning extended far beyond formal assessment. It became visible in the questions students asked, the connections they made, and the integrity with which they approached uncertainty.

To our Grade 11 students: Your engagement with the TOK Exhibition and the Collaborative Sciences Project exemplified what it means to be thinkers and communicators. You explored how knowledge manifests in the real world and worked across disciplines to solve complex problems. These experiences reflected the IB’s commitment to holistic, interdisciplinary learning, reminding us that knowledge is not confined to subject boundaries but enriched through collaboration and reflection.

To our Grade 12 students: Your CAS Showcase stood as a powerful testament to your growth as principled and caring individuals. Through creativity, activity, and service, you demonstrated resilience, compassion, and a genuine commitment to making a difference. Even amidst uncertainty, you embodied the spirit of CAS; understanding that education is as much about who we become as it is about what we achieve.

To all our students: You have shown yourselves to be risk-takers and reflective learners. Faced with disrupted routines and unanswered questions, you adapted with maturity and purpose. You supported one another, remained open-minded in the face of change, and continued to strive for excellence; not for grades alone, but for personal growth.

To our teachers: Your dedication ensured that the DP remained a transformative journey. You upheld rigorous academic standards while nurturing wellbeing, guiding students not just through content, but through complexity.

To our parents: Your partnership has been invaluable. Your support allowed our students to persevere, balancing the demands of the Diploma Programme with the realities of an unpredictable year.

As we conclude this year, we do so with a renewed appreciation for what an IB education represents. It is not defined by examinations alone, but by the development of individuals who can think critically, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to the world. This year has shown us that even in disruption, the principles of the IB endure, and so do we. IB

VICE

OF SIXTH FORM

As I look back on my second year overseeing the Sixth Form, it isn’t the data or the results that come to mind, but the vibrant, purposeful energy that defines the study room. This year hasn't just been about reaching milestones; it has been about the quiet, daily commitment to excellence that happens when no one is watching.

Our Sixth Form continues to be an asset in the school, a hub of super-curricular curiosity where we have seen university lectures happening and conversations that go above the DP curriculum. Seeing students challenge themselves, not for a grade, but out of a genuine thirst for understanding, has been the highlight of my year. Whether it was the MUN debates or the focused silence of the study room, the culture we’ve built together is one of ambition tempered with kindness.

We’ve seen our Big 8 and House Captains step into their roles with a level of maturity that has resonated across the entire school. Through their leadership and a record-breaking year of charity drives, they have proven that an NLCS Dubai education is measured by what we give back to our community. This year was the moment our students truly found their platform, moving from participants to architects of school life.

To our Grade 10 students joining us: you are entering a community that knows how to turn uncertainty into strength. You are walking into a space that is ready to catch your biggest ambitions. To our younger students in Grades 6-9: keep finding your rhythm, keep leading, and never be afraid to let your voice be the one that shifts the room.

And finally, to our leavers. You have been the pioneers of this new era. Beyond the impressive university offers and Ivy League destinations lies the real achievement: the resilience you showed when the path wasn't clear. As you depart, take that grit with you. It has been a sincere honour to grow alongside you this year.

BIG BIG

ALEXANDER EL GHANDOUR

What a journey it has been. For the past 8 years, I have grown to call the NLCS community my home, and as we leave as the Class of 2026, I could not be prouder. Joining as a quiet boy in Grade 5, I would have never imagined how much we have all grown, the friendships we made and the successes we have achieved.

Being the Arts Ambassador has taught me that a shared vision leaves a legacy and can unite people for years to come. As a brand-new role in this school, it was certainly difficult to establish the importance of the arts in such a high-achieving academic environment. But it was worth it. For me, the arts is a space for everyone to be included and celebrated, and I hope that spirit will continue long after we leave.

To my Big 8 team, I am proud of what we have built together, the work we have put in, and the memories we have created. In 10-15 years’ time, I have no doubt that we will be looking back at these experiences fondly.

To all the teachers who have supported us throughout the years, thank you for your constant belief in us and dedication to seeing us thrive and succeed.

And finally, to the fellow students of our school, NLCS Dubai, it has been an honour to represent you, work by your side, and see you all grow into the amazing individuals you are today.

Being part of the Big 8 this academic year has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at NLCS Dubai. Moving to a new school, in a new country and on a completely different continent at sixteen was easily the most difficult change of my life so far, but becoming Societies Ambassador gave me a sense of connection I did not expect to find. The role allowed me to meet people I otherwise never would have known and showed me just how much a community can shape someone’s experience beyond academics.

This year has definitely been filled with its fair share of growth, challenges, and unforgettable moments — and more meetings and emails than I ever thought possible. As Societies Ambassador, one of the most fulfilling parts of the role was helping create opportunities for students to connect through shared interests and activities outside the classroom. Watching students become genuinely excited about their societies and find spaces where they felt comfortable and involved made the role incredibly meaningful.

What I have valued most about this year was the people I met. Being surrounded by such driven and supportive individuals constantly motivated me to contribute more to the school community.

Above all, I am deeply grateful to my peers, teachers, and fellow members of the Big 8 for making these two years so special. The experiences and memories I have gained through this role are ones I will carry with me long after leaving NLCS Dubai and I am so excited to see where they will take me.

Being part of the NLCS Dubai community, from Grade 6 to Grade 12, has been one of the most rewarding experiences. At first, “Much is expected from those to whom much is given” and “Floors, not ceilings” felt like phrases I simply heard in assemblies. It was not until I started trying to embody them that I truly understood both their meaning and the ethos of NLCS itself. Through societies, service, academics, sports, house events, charity initiatives, and everything in between, this school gave me the opportunity to grow alongside people who genuinely care and under the nurturing care of teachers who contributed to that journey through encouragement, humour, or simply believing in us during moments we struggled to believe in ourselves.

Serving in the Big 8 as Service Ambassador, and before that as Yibir Sports Captain, has been one of the greatest privileges of my time here. What made these roles meaningful was never the titles themselves, but the people behind them. From chaotic event planning and last-minute assembly changes to sports days that somehow always left everyone exhausted, sunburnt, and surviving on electrolytes, every moment brought our community closer together, and these memories are what we take as we move beyond NLCS. Our charity committee remains one of the most memorable parts of my experience, thanks to teachers like Mr. Kennedy and the rest of our leadership team. Whether through Pink Day, Festive Jumper Day, Movember, or initiatives like the Laban Stall, what mattered most was seeing students care deeply about ideas bigger than themselves. To all the teachers, staff, students, and the DP Core team, thank you for making NLCS Dubai feel like home and getting us all through until the end, we truly could not have made it through without your unwavering support. And if I could leave one piece of advice, it would simply be this: get involved. Join the team, lead the project, start the initiative, say yes, and take the leap. The opportunities that shape you most are often the ones you almost walked past. Above all, carry forward the two mottos that shaped so much of my experience here: “Much is expected from those to whom much is given” and “Floors, not ceilings.”

Having been at NLCS Dubai since its founding, it means I’ve quite literally grown up with the school. I’ve seen year groups come and go, watched buildings being built (finally), and somehow, here we are, about to leave it all behind. This year, when my role shifted from Enrichment to Community, it forced me to ask: what actually is a community? And I think, without even realising it, NLCS Dubai answered that. In the way we all showed up for each other, in the hallways, on the sidelines, during the stressful weeks and the really good ones too!

And of course it’s Staff vs. Students :)

If my time at NLCS has proven anything, it’s that community is something you build, and that extends to us as the inaugural (and best) Big 8. Being part of the Big 8 has been an honour I’ll carry with me for life. Nadine, Francesco, Alex, Arjun, Tian, Anna, and Mona - thank you for the laughs, the occasional disagreements, and for caring as much as you did. And thank you to Mr. Locke, Mrs. Dawson, and Ms. Clegg for backing and guiding us (and putting up with us more than you probably had to). If there’s one thing I’ll leave you with, it’s to not let this be the end of the community we’ve built here. Don’t be strangers. Stay connected, look out for one another, and carry the NLCS spirit forward long after this year ends. What makes this school special has always been its people - and if community is measured by the people in it, then I think we’ve already succeeded, because this school is full of people I deeply believe in.

Thank you for being my community. I wouldn’t have wanted to grow up anywhere else.

FRANCESCO VON BAUDISSIN KRUSE

I have never been good at opening sentences, and I have never been great at introductions - or so I wrote in my Big 8 application letter. What I could never have foretold was how the story between that sentence and this one would unfold. I wrote about how all stories need good conclusions, and what an ending this has been!

It is not lost on me that I first arrived at NLCS as the world locked down, and I leave it as the world holds its breath once more - but although my NLCS journey has been shaped by events not entirely how I would have written them, I can only look back at my time with profound gratitude and pride. From my very first day, many many days ago, to my very last, and all in between, I have found in each and every one of them a community, a spirit, and a family defined, above all, by warmth.

But this warmth was shaped and built by every single one of our teachers - for whom there are not enough words nor pages to express my gratitude. And finally, to my fellow Big 8, Alex, Anna, Arjun, Ed, Mona, Nadine, Tian, and the wider Class of 26 - thank you.

One of the most significant aspects of having been part of the NLCS Dubai community these past seven years has been experiencing and witnessing the joy in forming new bonds and friendships with others. This growth has allowed us all to develop in new ways, learn more about ourselves, and create memories that will last forever. I am so grateful to have been given the platform as part of Big 8 to represent the student body, and this experience was truly rewarding. I would like to thank Mrs Mosses and the Student Council for your support; from creating a New Student Handbook for new students, to understanding and addressing the challenges experienced by all Senior School students, we truly made a difference in our community.

I am also grateful for all the other members of Big 8. I will always be amazed and inspired by your commitment to serving others, and your incredible perseverance and creativity.

Furthermore, I am proud to have been a part of the unique culture we create as a school. We have supported one another, learned from one another, and grown into internationally-minded people together. Our collective positivity and care for one another, from celebrating each other’s successes to being there for those who needed a shoulder to cry on, will continue to inspire me as I leave this chapter behind. I wish you all nothing but the best for the future and I am thankful for having shared these memorable years with you.

As I reflect back on the 2025-26 academic year, so much comes to mind.

As your first Big 8, we hope we made a difference for students - whether it be staff versus students games, increased student voice representation, or the plethora of charity events throughout the year.

As your first Alumni Ambassador, I hope that our graduating class and current sixth formers carry the badge of Old North Londoner with pride.

And as an NLCS student, I truly wish to see our school community bounce back and flourish, for years to come. This year has been quite the whirlwind, in ways that no one expected. But what has inspired me is the resilience of both staff and students in coming together, whether it be during online or in-person teaching, to uplift one another and continue learning during these uncertain times. There is power in adaptability, in overcoming challenges, and in sticking together - which has defined my time here at NLCS Dubai.

Having started our Senior School experience in Grade 6 with online school during COVID, and ending it with more online school in Grade 12, some could say our year group has not had it easy. But actually, I find a kind of poetic meaning in it - that nothing is certain, but what matters is how we deal with such uncertainty. Over the past eight years of being an NLCS student, I have made memories for life (particularly Yibir’s winning streak in Public Speaking competitions), and the lessons I have learnt - on both an academic and personal level - are ones that I will carry for life, and for that, I have immense gratitude.

Thank you to my friends for their support, to my cohort for their brilliance, to my teachers for their commitment, to my fellow Big 8 members for their diligence, and to the entire NLCS community for making me the person I am today. As our class heads off into a new chapter of our lives, my one piece of advice to current students is: cherish your time here, it’ll be over before you know it!

NLCS Dubai has been a story of growth. I’ve had the fortunate experience of completing my entire senior school journey here, so I’ve seen the school physically expand – with hallways and students – but also with traditions, perspectives, and connections. Yet in every year I’ve spent here, I’ve felt the same sense of belonging and care. Big 8 was one of the ways I could try to reciprocate the kindness I’ve received and learnt from my friends, teachers, and mentors. As Wellbeing Ambassador, I wanted wellbeing to become a more accessible and integral part of our school, through ‘Dear Sadiq’, group talks, and fun activities. This role has taught me the importance of connection and how wellbeing is about feeling seen and valued.

Thank you so much to the Wellbeing Committee, staff, and Sadiq team whose dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment has shaped our school’s community. It has been a privilege to work alongside you and contribute to something so meaningful! I’ve had so much fun with the other Big 8 members, and I want to thank them for their warmth, commitment, and community we have made together. You are all such clever, inspiring, and kind people, and I’m so grateful I got to experience your incredible initiatives and company over the past year! And thank you so much to all the teachers and Senior School Leadership Team for endlessly supporting us along our journey! NLCS Dubai feels like my family, and I will always cherish the countless memories we made over the years.

2026 - 202

As your newly appointed Big 8, we are incredibly excited for the year ahead. Our goal is to strengthen student life across the Senior School by championing student voice, creating new opportunities, and ensuring every student feels supported, included, and inspired. This year, we hope to build on the strong foundations already in place while continuing to develop initiatives across areas such as Student Voice, Wellbeing, Service, Societies, Global Awareness, the Arts, Community, and Alumni relations. Together, these areas will help foster an even more connected and vibrant NLCS community.

Being part of NLCS means embracing opportunities to grow both inside and outside the classroom. From hearing inspiring perspectives from guest speakers, to participating in societies, events, service projects, and studentled initiatives, there is so much to look forward to. As the Big 8, we are committed to leading with enthusiasm, kindness, and purpose, helping create an environment where every student is encouraged to aim high and support one another.
