The New London Barn Playhouse is one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the country. Housed in a historic converted barn, the theater features professional Broadway actors alongside emerging young artists in an intimate, air-conditioned setting with no seat more than 30 feet from the stage.
We are thrilled to present the New London Barn Playhouse’s Annual Report for the fiscal year 2023-2024, a year that has been nothing short of extraordinary This season saw us not only break records but also expand our artistic offerings and deepen our commitment to education, and collaboration.
The 2023-2024 season marked a remarkable year for the Playhouse as we welcomed a record number of attendees Over 26,000 theater lovers filled our seats, surpassing the previous seasons. Our productions, ranging from beloved classics to groundbreaking new works, resonated deeply with our audience and have set a new standard for the future Our exciting production of Jersey Boys broke box office records, and the full season celebrated our fabulous lineup of guest artists and the multi-talented 15 member acting intern company.
One of the defining features of this season has been our exciting new collaborations We are proud to have partnered with Symphony NH for our special concert presentation of South Pacific, In Concert. This collaboration brought together the power of live orchestral music and the magic of Broadway, creating a truly unforgettable experience for our audiences.
In addition, we embarked on a innovative new partnership with Transport Group, an acclaimed New York City-based off-broadway theater company, to bring to life Split, a daring and thought-provoking production This collaboration expanded our reach into innovative new theater, exploring narratives that push boundaries and challenge audiences in unique ways. The success of Split solidifies our reputation as a theater committed to both preserving traditional theatre and pushing artistic boundaries.
Our educational programs continued to thrive, with an even larger number of students participating in our workshops, camps, and year-round outreach initiatives. Over 400 youth and adult learners joined us this year, honing their craft and learning from some of the best professionals in the industry Our commitment to fostering the next generation of theater-makers remains steadfast, and we are proud of the impact we ’ ve had in nurturing creativity, discipline, and a love for the performing arts.
The introduction of new masterclasses and expanded offerings for both youth and adult learners further enriched our educational programming. We aim to build on this foundation in the years ahead, ensuring that the New London Barn Playhouse remains a vital hub for arts education in our region.
As we close the chapter on this remarkable year, we do so with gratitude for our patrons, donors, staff, and volunteers, whose unwavering support made this possible.
