THE SHARING NETWORK FOUNDATION supports the work of NJ Sharing Network, the non-profit organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for the nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents currently awaiting transplantation. The Foundation is committed to increasing the number of lives saved through clinical advancement, family support, public awareness and education about the lifesaving benefits of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

We invite you to review our 2024 Impact Report to see firsthand how your generous contributions are saving lives. In these pages, you’ll see the progress we’ve made together in advancing our cause— whether through clinical advancements, education and awareness, or support for donor families and transplant recipients. PARTNERING WITH OUR DEDICATED HOSPITALS
We thank our 54 NJ hospital partners for advancing our lifesaving efforts and raising awareness about organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Our healthcare professionals serve as a driving force in our lifesaving mission by working 24/7 to save and enhance lives.
40% of our partner hospitals saw increases in organ donors and organs transplanted in 2024. Cooper University Hospital had the highest number of organ donors (29) and organs transplanted (89) of any of our NJ hospitals.
NJSN hosted New Jersey’s first ever Transplant Growth Collaborative meeting, bringing together senior transplant program and hospital leaders from across the nation.
The event provided a platform for the exchange of innovative practices aimed at increasing the rate of successful transplantations and saving more lives.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Our volunteers dedicated 10,025 hours (a 21% increase) to spread our lifesaving message at 393 community events (a 152% increase), in high schools and universities (an 80% increase) throughout New Jersey, and in our Wrapped in Love program. Additionally, the number of Donate Life Clubs at NJ high schools grew by 62%.
Our commitment to giving back to our communities is stronger than ever. We hosted school supply drives, Live Healthy & Move events in Newark and Paterson, and additional health events throughout the state.
AWARDS AND HONORS
NJSN was named NJBIZ Nonprofit Business of the Year (100+ employees) and earned the NJBIZ Education Hero Award for our “Every Community Needs Heroes” campaign. We were also recognized as one of NJ’s Best Places to Work for the seventh year in a row, celebrating our supportive and mission-driven workplace.
YOUR SUPPORT MAKES SO MUCH POSSIBLE
We are extremely grateful for every contribution that helps to save lives. Since its inception, our Foundation has helped fund numerous projects and programs in the following areas:
INNOVATIVE TRANSPLANT RESEARCH AND CLINICAL ADVANCEMENTS
Our fully accredited state-of-the-art laboratory and highly trained staff play a vital role in our lifesaving mission. Educational programs for clinical staff and hospital partners, and innovative research to increase the number of possible transplants support our efforts in stewarding the gift of life.
FAMILY SUPPORT
Beyond our mission is our commitment to provide compassionate care and support to families. Programs and resources for families of organ and tissue donors, transplant recipients, patients waiting, living donors and caregivers provide ways to celebrate life and honor the legacy of loved ones.
PUBLIC AWARENESS AND EDUCATION
Together with volunteers, community advocates and hospital partners, our goal is to bring awareness to the importance of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Through special events, public education and community outreach, we give hope to the nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
A HEARTFELT CELEBRATION:
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF ORGAN DONATION
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of their lifesaving liver transplants, Cameron and Jared Wohl, co-founders of The Wave Set and residents of Little Falls and Livingston, NJ, generously contributed $10,000 to support the newly established Simulation Training Center at NJ Sharing Network Headquarters.
On February 11, 2014, Jared, then 27, donated 65% of his liver to his younger brother, Cameron, 24, who was battling primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare autoimmune disease affecting the liver.
Contributing to the Simulation Training Center and the handson training it will provide is our way of giving back to NJ Sharing Network and the community that has supported us throughout our transplant journey. As a former educator and living transplant donor, it means so much to help maximize organ donation outcomes and, through education, save more lives.
JARED WOHL, LIVING LIVER DONOR
The Joseph S. Roth Simulation Training Center officially opened at NJ Sharing Network headquarters on April 16, 2024, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The state-of-theart facility features the same advanced technologies used in partner hospitals throughout New Jersey and will help prepare clinical teams with the best handson learning options available.
Our contribution isn’t just about honoring our 10-year milestone; it’s about investing in the future of organ donation. We want to ensure NJ Sharing Network’s teams have the best training to make the biggest impact on the number of organs recovered and lives saved.
CAMERON WOHL, LIVER TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT
WRAPPED IN LOVE
Compassionate NJSN volunteers hand make shawls and blankets to show support and comfort to organ and tissue donor families. In 2024, 883 shawls and lap blankets were gifted to 751 donor families. Volunteers spent 8,842 hours crafting these tangible gifts of love.
DONOR REMEMBRANCE
Nearly 200 guests gathered at our headquarters for donor remembrance ceremonies to honor 44 donor heroes who gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
DONOR FAMILY HOLIDAY GIFT
Over the holiday season, 1,200 families of organ and tissue donors received a special decorative plaque in honor of loved ones. Funded by the Foundation, these heartfelt gifts offered comfort and served as a symbol of gratitude for the ultimate gift.
BRACELETS THAT SAVE LIVES
Our Foundation partnered with Names for Good to launch the “Say Yes, Save Lives” bracelet campaign, raising funds and awareness for our lifesaving mission.
The Sunflower Award was created from this campaign to recognize hospital staff and donation champions who go above and beyond in support of donation and transplantation.
The blanket you knitted is beautiful. Words cannot describe how happy you made me. You are all compassionate, caring, and loving people. I will call you, my family.
BARBARA MIELNICKI, MOTHER OF ORGAN DONOR VINCENT
The Sunflower Award for Donation Champions
FAMILY SUPPORT: CRISIS FUNDING
At just five years old, Riley Kogen made a profound impact on the lives of all who knew her. In 2013, she gave the gift of life through organ donation. Her selfless act not only saved two women but also touched their entire families. Riley’s legacy lives on through the Riley’s Path Fund, which provides critical funding to transplant patients in financial crisis. This program also supports tour Foundation’s
scholarship program and plays a key role in public education and awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
To honor his daughter’s memory, West Orange resident Mitch Kogen initiated a generous $10,000 matching gift campaign to inspire contributions in support of the Foundation and Riley’s Path for Father’s Day.
As one Social Worker from Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes expressed:
I continue to be grateful for the work you do and the existence of this emergency funding that provides security, hope, and healing to our patients.
My daughter’s final act of love continues to inspire me to support organ and tissue donation. My contribution to Riley’s Path is my way of honoring her memory and encouraging others to recognize the lifesaving power of organ and tissue donation.
MITCH KOGEN, FATHER OF ORGAN DONOR RILEY

A GIFT OF LIFE CHILDREN’S BOOK
In 2024, our Foundation proudly funded the publication of A Gift of Life: A Story About Organ and Tissue Donation, a children’s book created and written by Rachelle Burk, an accomplished author of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for children. Made possible through a grant approved by the Board of Trustees, this book offers a compassionate and accessible way for children to learn about the importance of donation while also
providing support to those navigating grief and loss.
This special book follows a young boy after the loss of his father and his legacy as a hero through organ and tissue donation. Beautifully illustrated by Benjamin Hummel, a two-time liver transplant recipient, it’s a story of hope, love and the incredible impact one can make by giving the gift of life.
A Gift of Life: A Story of Organ and Tissue Donation is available for purchase in English and in Spanish on Amazon, offering families, schools, and healthcare providers a valuable resource to introduce children to the powerful gift of organ and tissue donation.
A unique and meaningful story about a child learning to live with loss, while discovering the powerful, lifesaving impact their loved one made through the gift of organ and tissue donation. Any adult supporting a child through loss and donation would benefit from this special book.
JACQUELINE SALVATORE, MSW LSW, NJ SHARING NETWORK
We were thrilled to contribute more than 100 copies of A Gift of Life to support the County of Union’s “Inclusive Book Program.”
As part of Union County Chairperson Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded’s 2024 “Growing Together in Union County” initiatives, the “Inclusive Book Program” provides Union County schools with a diverse selection of books that celebrate different cultures, backgrounds, abilities and experiences. By offering a range of inclusive literature, the program aims to promote empathy, understanding and acceptance among students, as well as cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment within local school communities.
ROSE PARADE
Heart and tissue recipient Michael Rizzo was honored as a float rider on the OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade® float in Pasadena, CA, which won the 2025 “Extraordinaire Award.” This New Years Day celebration is the world’s most visible campaign to inspire organ and tissue donation. His participation was sponsored by our Foundation and NJ Sharing Network’s tissue partner, MTF Biologics.
LIVE HEALTHY & MOVE
In August, NJ Sharing Network hosted free community events in Paterson and Newark to promote health, wellness, and the power of organ and tissue donation. Attendees enjoyed a day of family fun, as well as free health screenings, fitness activities, healthy eating tips, local resources, and organ and tissue donation information.
RUNNING WITH THE DEVILS
We were proud to support RWJBarnabas Health’s Running with the Devils 5K Run & Walk in West Orange and their commitment to building healthier New Jersey communities. Volunteers and NJSN staff participated with a table in the expo at Turtle Back Zoo to share our lifesaving mission with event attendees.
HEARTS FOR EMMA
Members of the Sharing Network Foundation Board of Trustees attended the Hearts for Emma Gala in November to support our shared mission in honoring the gift of life. The night was a testament to the power of community compassion and championing educational programs focused on heart transplantation and organ and tissue donation.

RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS
Our community remains a constant source of inspiration, showing their steadfast dedication to raising awareness and critical funds for our lifesaving mission. From supporting our signature events – the 5K Celebration of Life and Golf Classic to planning their own innovative, grassroots initiatives, our team captains, volunteers and advocates are essential to our success. Each of these events, while unique, shares a common purpose: celebrating the gift of life and honoring our donor heroes. Here are some memorable highlights throughout the year!
CONGRATULATIONS TO TEAM LIBERTY
Team Liberty, comprised of organ transplant recipients, living donors, and donor families from New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut brought home an impressive 118 medals at the 2024 Transplant Games of America. The games, held in Birmingham, Alabama, included a wide range of events, including basketball, track and field, swimming, pickleball, cornhole, and trivia.
118 medals
JOHN LEVINE FUND
Family and friends of organ donor John Levine hosted their 5th Annual Benefit Dinner in support of our Foundation. This particular event held special significance, marking 10 years since John gave the gift of life. In the decade since his passing, John’s family has honored his legacy by sharing his story, advocating for organ and tissue donation, and fundraising for our lifesaving mission. Helen Hunter, John’s kidney recipient (pictured in red) attended this year’s event, and shared how John’s selfless donation saved her life and how she has worked to honor his memory over the past 10 years. To date, John’s family has raised nearly $400,000 in his name to support our lifesaving mission.
KBC “BIG GIVE”
KBC Advisors generously contributed $50,000 to our Foundation as part of their annual “Big Give.” KBC’s Cait English nominated the Foundation, inspired by her personal connection to our lifesaving mission. After losing a childhood friend and later her mother-in-law, both registered organ donors, she and her family have raised $40,000 in their memory and actively participate each year in NJSN’s 5K Celebration of Life.
“KBC Advisors’ contribution will honor the legacy of sacrifice and service to others that organ donors leave behind,” said English. “NJ Sharing Network has helped me turn my grief into gratitude, and my hope is that this grant will provide others with the same opportunity to find healing and hope.”
JOYCE NOVOTNY
PLAQUE DEDICATION
The family and friends of Joyce Novotny unveiled a plaque in our Landscape of Life Meditation Garden recognizing contributions to our Foundation made in her name. Joyce was a longtime supporter of our lifesaving mission.
KOHL’S NATIONAL GIVEBACK INITIATIVE
She was a close friend and colleague of Sharing Network Foundation Board Member, Jane Buckiewicz (pictured center in white below). After Jane’s son, Dan, passed away in 2009 and gave the gift of life, Joyce included NJ Sharing Network and Jane’s 5K team, Team Buck, in her annual charitable giving.
Unfortunately, in 2017 Joyce was involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident on her way home from an annual family trip to South Carolina. When her family arrived at the hospital after the accident they realized Joyce was a registered organ donor. It was no surprise to them; she loved helping others. Joyce was able to save and enhance the lives of eight people through organ and tissue donation. Since her passing, Team Buck has participated in the 5K Celebration of Life in honor of both Dan and Joyce and have raised over $140,000 in her name.
During the holiday season, Kohl’s National Giveback Initiative generously awarded a $2,000 grant to the Sharing Network Foundation to purchase goods in support of our lifesaving mission. The grant helped us care for donor families and enrich the lives of transplant recipients!
NOAH’S SPARK
The family and friends of organ and tissue donor Noah McDonough hosted their 9th Annual Fishing tournament –a tradition that brings them together to honor Noah’s life, legacy, and his incredible spirit of generosity and love. The event raised over $10,000 to support charities across the state that align with Noah’s beliefs including our Foundation.
BONNIE RAITT CONCERT
Members of our Sharing Network Foundation Board of Trustees attended the Bonnie Raitt concert at NJPAC to help spread awareness about our lifesaving mission. Bonnie and her team made a generous contribution to our Foundation to further show her support of organ and tissue donation. Our mission has continued to touch Bonnie since her Grammy award winning song, “Just Like That,” which she wrote after being inspired by a powerful story of organ donation.
A “COOL” CONTRIBUTION FOR A LIFESAVING CAUSE
Meyer & Depew Company made an impactful $25,000 contribution to our Foundation through their Installation Donation program, which designates a portion of the proceeds from each new HVAC system installation to support our lifesaving mission. President Bobby Ring — a living kidney donor to his late sister, Kathleen — and his wife, Pam, visited our headquarters to personally present their generous gift.

MEET 5K TEAM CHRIS’ CRUSADERS
Gabrielle Bryant (front cover), is the daughter of transplant recipient Christopher Bryant. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 16, Christopher’s health declined until he received a lifesaving kidney transplant in 2005, followed by a pancreas transplant a year later. After 11 years, his transplanted kidney began to fail, but in 2018, he received a successful second kidney and pancreas double transplant.
Now living life to the fullest with his wife and 12-year-old Gabrielle, the Bryant family actively supports organ donation, participating in the 5K Celebration of Life with their team, Chris’ Crusaders. Christopher serves on the Sharing Network Foundation’s Board of Trustees and is a member of NJ Sharing Network’s Advisory Board.
My donor hero was from Texas. His selfless decision not only saved my life, but also six others. I am forever thankful. “ ”
