The aim of any Japanese translation program available in your city is to help you pass the JLPT test. Such a Japanese language certificate course provides you with the basics of the Japanese language that will help you understand the culture and nuances of the Japanese world to help you integrate better. Any of these courses focus on the final test which happens only twice a year and is diversified as per the skills into N1 to N5 levels. Each of these levels have a blend of questions that test you on the vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening. The test consists of various difficulties depending upon the level of skill for which you are being tested. This is due to the fact that the JLPT not only places importance on the knowledge you have gained of the Japanese vocabulary and grammar but also on the ability to use them in actual communication. The N5 and N4 test your basic understanding of Japanese which is mainly learnt in a classroom setting. The N1 and N2 levels test higher levels of Japanese which is used in a broad range of everyday activities while the N3 level kind of bridges the gap between these levels. So, while preparing for this test it is highly recommended that you not study just to pass the test as these skills shall be put to use to perform everyday tasks through the use of language. Not only language but you shall also need the ability to use them as and when necessary. Thus the JLPT measures one's competitive competence of the Japanese language through the knowledge of the language and also through reading and listening. But however consistent they devise these tests, it is difficult to maintain a level of consistency from session to session so the Japanese translation program seems to teach a bit more than may actually be required. A simple raw score of correct answers will result in a different test score for individuals with the same level of ability, depending upon the difficulty of the test. So, the JLPT instead is based upon a scaled score that equalises and allows for a measurement of the scale regardless of when a person takes the test. This score is then used by many of the institutes to also provide you with a formal pass mark for a Japanese language certificate course.
