FALL

2016

Welcome Dear Friends of the Arts in Jersey City, The Arts have long been at the center of NJCU, and this year, the University has formalized its new NJCU Center for the Arts to officially bring all of our activities under one creative umbrella. With New York City just across the river, NJCU attracts gifted instructors who are outstanding professional artists. Our faculty in music, theatre, and visual media and literary arts share their knowledge and passion with students, and on any given day or evening, NJCU's theaters and galleries are teeming with performances and exhibitions. This fall, see the next generation of talent in the sci-fi musical Little Shop of Horrors, or enjoy a free jazz concert featuring a guest artist. While you're on campus, stop by one—or both—of the University’s visual arts galleries. In keeping with our focus on the arts, NJCU’s headlining 2016 Presidential Lecture speaker is Tony award-winning choreographer Bill T. Jones, who will reflect on his 40+ year career and what it means to be an artist. We invite you to come to campus, or find us at events outside our gates. On September 16, the NJCU Alumni Jazz Big Band, joined by Randy Brecker and Lou Marini, opens our fall lineup with a free concert at Exchange Place on Jersey City’s waterfront. NJCU is the long-time home of the Black Maria Film Festival, an annual short film competition that travels across the country. Catch a screening of the 2016 winning films at venues throughout the state. The NJCU community is rich with artists and ideas, and we look forward to sharing this inspiring work with you.
