Year: 2020 Location: Manhattan, NY Commercial: Landlord This project sought out to create a new language for high-end commercial spaces within a contemporary building. The design challenge was to encompass warm sleekness of hospitality within a vision for a workspace. The combination of black hardware, wood flooring and marble countertops created a sense of grandiose but the simplicity of the office fronts and scale of the lighting mirrored the linearity of the building façade.

Year: 2019 Location: Manhattan, NY Commercial: Landlord This landlord project lent itself to creating a design vision that spoke to the Art Deco style of the building and the surround context of the area around the Grand Central station. The work extended from elevator lobby design, restroom renovations to tenant specific suite designs. The aesthetic of brass hardware juxtaposed with contemporary black office front systems amalgamated the two worlds of the past and present. The use of brass detailing sprinkled throughout the building was a nod to the history of the building.

Year: 2018 Location: Manhattan, NY Commercial: Technology This project dealt with a client in the field of technology who wanted their space to reflect their vision of innovation but still have warmth. The design plays with forms and angles, like with the angled walls and slatted wood, to push the envelope within interior office spaces and the use of strip lights adds a sense of ambient minimalism. The lighting fixtures that are used and visible play with form yet again, almost exaggerated to hint towards creation and technology.

Year: 2019 Location: Queens, NY Commercial: Amenity This project was very specific in terms of design aesthetics and brand imaging reflected in the vision for JP Morgan Chase. This was for an amenity space for the US Opens which lent itself to expanding graphic opportunities within the design with a graphic chain-link wall embedded with tennis balls or a graphic wall with the brand’s colors. The notion of creating various seating zones was steered by the lighting creating these pockets. The vibrancy of color and notion of projected imaging on TV walls recreated the vigor of being in a stadium within this amenity space.

Year: 2019 Location: Manhattan, NY Commercial: Non-Profit This specific client has their own unique fresh vision for their space that refrained from the ostentatious. Their non-profit work needed a simple yet vibrant vocabulary within the built elements and finishes. They were heavily involved in the design process and wanted graphic walls to reiterate their company ideology. Their branding color blue also played a huge role in the design where it was used in furniture and graphic elements throughout the space.

Year: 2019 Location: Manhattan, NY Commercial: Landlord This prebuild style project aimed to create a contemporary space for the potential tenants in the suite. The neutral color palette and linear lighting fixtures created a backdrop for the envisioning of any future tenants interested in the space. The frameless office front systems were integrated to expand the space and the use of flooring created zones for workstations and informal collaboration.

Year: 2017 Location: Syracuse, NY Program: University Library The renovation and addition project aimed towards rebranding the university library from an intimidating brutalist building to a visually intriguing gateway connecting the north and south sides of campus, making it the center of attraction for the school. Staggered platforms rise from the south to the north side in an atrium, housing open study areas for people to gather and socialize. This journey of the platforms culminates at the very top where one is rewarded by the special collections room that overlooks the Walnut park thus creating a relationship between the building and its context. The space cantilevers reaching out to the park, projecting the users view outside. The cantilevered form with the glazed glass façade also provides users with the payoff of a spectacular view they journeyed the platforms to see. From the outside, this projecting box would exude light to reinforce the idea of spectacle at night. The facades play on the idea of a book- shelf with colored panels and varied articulation of beams and mullions. On the south side, the same idea of a rhythm of book like partitions carries through where it divides large classrooms to provide them with partitioned views of the campus. The dominating presence of the existing building was altered using playful colorful panels that break up the density. The two-cantilevered boxes break this rhythm providing views from the north to the south corridor almost like a gap in a bookshelf. The facades are visually connected through colored panels that make the building more attractive and playful.

Year: 2015 Location: Syracuse, NY Program: Children’s Museum The project dealt with the design of the Museum of Science & Technology’s satellite location. The M.O.S.T is a museum that caters to children and they focus on themes like geology, flora and fauna, aerospace developments, etc. After the initial research, the design followed the layering of the functions governed by the themes that the museum wanted to focus on, making them sectionally apparent. The project has three theme specific floors, each connected visually by an atrium. The geology floor rests in the ground erupting into the floor above through a side exit. The second floor is integrated into the surrounding vegetation and acts as a greenhouse to display flora and fauna. The third floor tackles the theme of space and is formally expressed with a cantilevered portion to represent a sense of wonder and awe. There is an external pathway that weaves the surrounding context into the building. The exterior landscaping can be autonomous and perform to be an urban park and host events. The museum also aimed to reinvigorate the promising area around the site. Context played a role in carving out the form, subtly relating itself to iconic buildings relevant in the city of Syracuse.

Year: 2015 Location: Brooklyn, NY Program: Office & Avian Facility The project premise dealt with a R&D partner that would aid our design to gear it towards tackling the issue of avian population in Brooklyn. The initial research established an inverse pattern between urban growth and bird population decline in New York City. The identification of the environ- mental issue then propelled the design strategy of creating a hybridized project that integrated anthropogenic function with fostering avian pockets. The program of the office building that would have views to the bird gardens allowed people to acknowledge the environmental issue while giving office users a beautiful escape. The birds would fly into the bird pods or gardens which would contain specific environments for the species in Brooklyn as advised by the initial research to make this a haven for them. The research also linked wind speed and the tunnel effect around urban areas to be a deterrent for the bird population. The research into computational fluid dynamics or CFD later in the project enabled the design of a form most suited to the site and function for the birds. The project serves not purely as a moment of interaction between the birds and humans, but more importantly acts as a method to foster avian species in the city.

Year: 2014 Location: Los Angeles, CA Program: Resource Center The project entailed designing a resource center for people in the city of Los Angeles and the neighboring students at Sci-Arch. The design also attempts to find integrate an air filtration system within the project that tackled the issue of air pollution in the city. The structural system encompasses within it an air purification system that converts the carbon dioxide in the air into oxygen. The structural tree like units create an urban forest that give the otherwise functional building, a poetic significance. The section plays on the idea of an urban jungle through the floating study platforms that give users an elevated view of this forest. The glass facade gives pedestrians a hard landscape encased in a glass facade that reflects the concept of the city trapped in a cloud of pollution. The scattered study desks and lounge seating amidst the columns lets users be inspired by the technology and allows them to visualize the problem of air pollution physically.
