SITE ANALYSIS

The city of Oakland has always been what can be described as a cultural mecca. In the 30s, 40s, and 50s, West Oakland’s 7th street was known as the “Harlem of the West,” and supported a thriving jazz and blues scene. Yoshi’s Jazz club is considered the most respected Jazz venue in Oakland. Visual art has also been a huge part of Oakland culture; the city claims to have the most artists per capita of any city in the country. Culture and art intertwine often, especially in such a diverse city like Oakland. Over 100 languages are spoken around the Town, and they’re represented artistically in various ways. They are somewhere represented through murals which are more than 1000. An artist creates colorful murals which represent the stories that could be related to social issues, freedom, race, and love for the town and art this is what makes the city unique.

ARCHITECTURE

The architectural styles represented are late 19th and 20th century Revival, Beaux Arts, late Gothic Revival, late 19th - early 20th century American Movements, Chicago, Commercial, Modern Movement, Art Deco, and International. Art Deco style has been the most accepted style in this region.

MOSAIC

The concept design is inspired by Oakland’s rich history, culture, art, and music. Visual art has also been a huge part of Oakland culture. Culture and art intertwine often, especially in such a diverse city like Oakland. People represent their stories through the visual art embedded and showcased with Murals. The theme will be translated into the space with sumptuous textures, hues, and patterns that remind the cultural authenticity. These attributes will be mixed in with natural-toned furnishing, smooth finishes, and elegant textural architectural element to create a space that is serene & well-balanced. The confident and uncomplicated color palette allows for dramatic play with light and shadow and offers a complimentary backdrop of the greenery and natural elements woven throughout.

The idea here is to give a modern and elegant feel to the living room, collaborating different styles and yet feel seamless. The front curved wall has been derived from the Spanish colonial style to give it a contemporary look. The base tone chosen is white, using it as a contrasting element to other colorful areas, intending to create that calmness and serenity we all crave, as one walks in. The bar cart is done in champagne bronze to add a royal taste to drinking sessions. The background wall is given a brick texture with a big wall clock that adds a modern industrial look to the living room.

The kitchen is the heart of the home and should be treated as such. As an area often susceptible to mess and clutter, it is essential that it be styled in a way that maintains organization and provides ample workspace. To achieve this, the design includes an island with a Quartz slab, complemented by a full-length Italian chimney that offers sufficient storage space for utensils, along with a dedicated green space.

LIVING ROOM & KITCHEN Renderings

The bedroom is a sanctuary within the home, designed to evoke a sense of homecoming after a long and hectic day. It should be a space that calms the mind, warms the heart, and inspires the spirit to dream bigger and prepare to take on the challenges of the next day. To create such an environment, a world map has been included as a focal point, allowing one to commemorate travel memories by placing photographs of visited destinations on it. This feature also serves as a reminder to keep the passion for exploration alive. Additionally, warm tones have been chosen as the base theme, complemented by natural light, to create a soothing and spacious atmosphere.
