The Legend of the Wawel Dragon
Once upon a time in a den, close to the Wawel Castle in Kraków, lived a scary dragon. Everyone was afraid of the beast. King Krak promised great wealth and his daughter’s hand to the man who could defeat the dragon but no knight could do it.
But a clever shoemaker called Skuba had a plan. He stuffed a sheep with sulphur, put it next to the dragon’s den and hid. When the dragon saw the sheep, it grabbed and ate it.
Soon the dragon felt like its stomach was on fire. It walked to the bank of the river and started drinking. It drank and drank water from the river and its belly became bigger and bigger ‌
It drank so much water that it exploded. The shoemaker and the people of Krakรณw cheered as they were finally free from the dragon! The shoemaker married the princess and they lived happily ever after.
