General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION - The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The Market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. CONDITIONS OF SALE - Sold under the conditions of sale as recommended by The Livestock Auctioneers’ Association. COMMISSIONS - The Auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend the sale personally, upon receipt of written instructions. METHOD OF SALE - All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK - Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official ‘Pass Slip’, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement. Notice to all Visitors and Traders Please read and observe the following: • Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival. • All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site. • All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site. • All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance. • All persons delivering livestock to mart must park on the hardcore area at the back of the site and then proceed along the designated route to the biosecurity control next to the supervisors office. • Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading. • Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has been issued by the main office. • No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale. • Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock. • Wash hands thoroughly when leaving livestock pennage areas. • Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times.

FOREWORD My father James Christie first started the Suffolks in the 1950s as breeding rams for his own commercial flock, while selling surplus rams at Stirling. When I showed an interest, he decided to go pedigree, so the West Carse flock was established in July 1971. Four gimmers from the Pratis flock, two from Parkhouse, along with a ram lamb from Jack Bulmer’s Malton flock were purchased. In October 1971, we purchased two Temple Hall ewes and one at Drumkilbo. This was followed by purchases from Bridgestone, Muiresk & Barron’s. A Barron’s gimmer was purchased in 1976, she is the cornerstone of my flock, with some of today’s bloodlines still going back to her. A further Barron’s ewe was purchased in 1990 at the Barron’s dispersal. The West Carse flock was influenced in the early years by Bridgestone Prince Cannon, Barron’s Three Ways and Barron’s Four Power. The most influential sire used in the flock was Muiresk Lustre, purchased Kelso 1992. Sires most recently shaping the flock were Cairness First Glance and Ballyboe Boe. On our debut entering The National Flock Competition in 1985, we won the Lloyd Cup 31-60 ewes and won a Certificate of Merit with our ewe lambs. We entered from 1985 to 1992 and were mentioned most years winning The Keeble Cup in 1992 for 61-100 ewes. We are also past winners of the West & Central Flock Competition. We started showing Suffolks at The RHS from 1981 to 2000, gaining red tickets along the way. Twice been second to the Supreme Champion and then in the millennial year, we won the Championship. As our pedigree Charolais cattle herd expanded we did not have the time to enter competitions. However, following our herd dispersal in recent years, we went back to showing in 2023. On our return to The RHS we won first prize ewe; reserve female champion; reserve overall; and the group of three. Ballyboe Boe’s ewes have won the ewe class at The RHS 2023, 2024 and 2025. We have also won the pen of three in 2023, 2025 and 2026. Throughout the years I have always bred quality sheep with a commercial angle. I will be sorry to see them go as they have been a large part of my life. Along the way I have made many friends from all over the UK and Ireland. I hope these friendships remain for years to come. I would like to say special thanks to my team who have helped to make this day possible and to all our sponsors who kindly placed an advert. REFERENCE TO SIRES SIRES IN THE EARLY YEARS THAT LEFT THEIR MARK: BRIDGESTONE PRINCE CANNON Purchased Edinburgh in 1977 for 2,400gns with Hallhill and Southolm. His first son from Westcarse sold for 1,000gns at Edinburgh in 1979 to Jack Bulmer, Malton flock. BARRON’S THREE WAYS Purchased at Kelso in 1978 for £1,100. He was the backbone of the flock, leaving some tremendous females. Jim Logan and Hugh Allan judged the flock competition in 1978. Hugh Allan came to my father and said that the ram you purchased at Kelso was out of the best ewe in the country after Barron’s flock won the Bristol Gold Cup. His full brother won the Edinburgh Show and Sale, Barron’s Drambuie, sold for 6,000gns to Howard Peel. Barron’s Three Ways was sold as a three shear to Northern Ireland and later bred David Duncan’s gimmer that won Balmoral. BARRON’S FOUR POWER Purchased at Kelso in 1982 for £1,000. A son of the record price Fordafourie Four Square, 13,000gns. His first son sold at Edinburgh in 1984 to a top of 4,000gns to Bridgestone. Another son sold at 2,200gns to the Scryne flock. These two rams are grand sons of the most influential ewe purchased from Barron’s W35/J125 by Bridgestone Regalia. MUIRESK LUSTRE Purchased at Kelso in 1992 for £3,200. A late born lamb by the famous Cairness Cristar, who was the sire of the year. He was the most consistent sire used in the Westcarse flock with 60 sons averaging over £1,000, to a top of 4,000gns. BARRON’S DRAMBUIE used on four ewes AI’d 1994, siring a lamb that sold for 8,000gns Edinburgh in 1995. ALLOAKS ECLIPSE Purchased Edinburgh in 1999 for 2,500gns shared with Hallhill. Sire Glenisla Submission, dam J65:T37 by Westcarse Mr Sheen, who was sired by Muiresk Lustre and out of the Barron’s ewe, purchased at their dispersal in 1990, being a granddaughter of the famous W35:F28. The RHS Supreme Champion in 2000. He left some outstanding females. Reintroduced with the last six straws of semen, 2010 and bred 47D:11:035, being the most influential ewe in recent years. She is the g.d. of Westcarse Bella and Bella’s full sister, who was the mother of Westcarse Lustre. This line goes back to the Barrons ewe purchased in the 1970s. CAIRNESS FIRST GLANCE Purchased privately with Hallhill 2006. A late born lamb. Westcarse only had three February lambs. Two sold at Edinburgh in 2007 to a top of 20,000gns to Cairness. His three lambs averaged over 8,000gns. Unfortunately, lost him as a shearling. BALLYBOE BOE Purchased jointly with Hallhill at Stirling in 2019. Sire Limestone Aston Martin (40,000gns) and dam was the Ballynacannon Show gimmer. He was one of the top ten sires used in the last 55 years. His females were outstanding, winning the ewe class at The RHS three years in a row, 2023, 2024 & 2025.

Immaculate used for one season leaving his mark with sons selling to 1,800gns and daughters to 1,900gns before being sold to an unregistered suffolk flock. Westcarse Boy Wonder Sire Muirton Double Diamond and dam 47d: 21:01260 by Ballyboe Boe. Used on a few ewes and first prize shearling at Carlisle in 2024 for 2,000gns. Cairnton Touch of Class Sire Jalex Powerhouse and dam klr: 19:01132 by Millhouse Remarkable. Purchased at Shrewsbury in 2024 with Hallhill. Sons have sold to £2,100. Harpercroft Goliath Sire Pyeston Phoenix and dam sup: 20:15025 by Drimmie Knockout. Purchased Carlisle in 2024 for 2,000gns.
