Notice to all Visitors and Traders Please read and observe the following: • Excessive dirty vehicles will not be allowed entry, therefore ensure vehicle is clean before arrival. • All vehicles transporting livestock will be subject to a documentation check before entry to market site. • All visitors and traders must ensure they wear clean clothing and footwear before entering market site. • All visitors and traders using car park areas please use main entrance. • All persons delivering livestock to mart must park on the hardcore area at the back of the site and then proceed along the designated route to the biosecurity control next to the supervisors office. • Hauliers and farmers delivering livestock must disinfect their boots before and after loading or unloading. • Livestock purchased or unsold will not be allowed to move unless an authorised “pass slip” has been issued by the main office. • No livestock will be allowed to remain on the premises after a sale. • Only staff, livestock hauliers, owners or their agents are permitted to load or unload livestock. • Wash hands thoroughly when leaving livestock pennage areas. • Please observe our staff’s instructions at all times.

All Pedigree Sheep to be sold in guineas. Commission will be deducted at the rate of 5.5% on all pedigree sheep sold, Also 1% Levy which will be equally divided between the club and the society. An upset price has been set as follows – shearling gimmers and all rams 280gns and ewe lambs 150gns. No dressing, trimming, clipping or excessive use of dips on the fleeces of sheep will be permitted. No artificial whitening on any part of the sheep is permitted. if an inspector is present at the sale they have the authority to disqualify any sheep, which in their opinion, are below a minimum standard with regard to breed type or are found to be contravening the Society Bye-laws, right up to the point of sale. The decision of the inspector shall be final and failure to accept the inspector's decision will result in the entire consignment being rejected. All sheep to be sold singly. All sheep will be identified with tags hung round their necks. All sheep to be from Maedi Accredited Flocks only. Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale, if they are accompanied by a Ministry Certificate of Offcial MV Status which has been correctly completed. This certificate must be handed in when the animal/s arrive at the market. All animals will be inspected by the Club’s Veterinary surgeon prior to the sale. All sheep will be subject to a Veterinary Inspection. Any animal which does not reach the Veterinery Inspection standard will not be eligible for sale. This rule will include sheep with Orf. TEETH - The front edge of all incisor teeth must make contact with the dental pad. Any animals with undershot or overshot jaws will be rejected. LEGS - All Sheep forward will be subjected to a leg inspection, which will form an integral part of the Pre-Sale Inspection procedure. UDDERS - All udders will be inspected on female sheep, any signs of active mastitis will be rejected. All females must be correct in the udder. LAMENESS - Any lame sheep will be rejected regardless of the reason. WOOL - Sheep failing the wool inspection will not be permitted to be registered until 1st November in the following year, nor will any resulting progeny from them be permitted to be birth notified in the following year. Members are reminded it is against the Auctioneers rules and regulations and the Society Bye-laws for ANY rejected sheep to then be sold on the Auctioneers premises. The decision of the inspector shall be final. GENERAL HEALTH - Animals with any active infection including orf will be rejected. Minor injuries may be allowed at the discretion of the veterinary surgeon and an announcement will be made at the time of the sale. The decision of the veterinary surgeon appointed by the Club will be final. Adult sheep entered must be bare clipped after 1st April each year.

IDENTIFICATION: Tagging – all sheep must be double tagged to comply with Government legislation. The vendor shall be responsible for the correctness of identity. Any tags which are tampered with, hand written/bear marks, are faulty or illegible will be rejected form the sale.

All sheep to be guaranteed for fertility for which the vendor accepts responsibility. Any complaint must be intimated to Auctioneers no later than 3 calender months from date of sale and accompanied by a VS Certificate. Auctioneers to arbitrate in all disputes. The decision of the Arbitrator shall be final. The purchaser shall have no rights to claim damages from the vendor, in respect of indirect or consequential loss such as (but not limited to) loss of profit or any other loss whatsoever. Saturday 26th September 8am - 9am All sheep must be forward for penning and inspection between the following times: NO SHEEP WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME Entry fees are non-returnable. Vendors are responsible for taking their sheep to the Sale Ring and returning them back to the pens, after being offered for sale. Prize Rosettes won at the pre-sale judging are the only rosettes to be displayed in the sale pens, all other rosettes are not permitted. PLEASE NOTE - The Pedigree of all sheep entered in this catalogue has been accepted by the British Texel Sheep Society as birth notification or registration of Pedigrees. Prize Money will be withheld on animals that are unsold. Substitute entries will be permitted with one entry per section. All substitutes must be identified by a red dot in the middle of their back and notified on itexel no later then Wednesday 23rd September. Errors and Omissions: The Auctioneers can accept no responsibility for any errors or omissions printed in this catalogue. It will be the responsibility of the purchaser and/or the vendor to make any necessary arrangements for sheep going to Northern Ireland. Export to Northern Ireland: As of 1 January 2021, the rules for exporting sheep from the United Kingdom to Northern Ireland and the European Union have changed for moving breeding stock to Northern Ireland – NO Direct Export or Vendor Returns will be available. The Texel Sheep Society provides data collection and performance reporting services to its membership. From 2024, the service and evaluation combines pedigree and genomic data to provide indexes that are simple to use and understand. In simple terms: higher value = more profit per lamb The texelplus economic indexes support the breed’s development with an increased focus on commercial traits and profitability. The TERMINAL and REPLACEMENT INDEXES reflect the breed’s influence on industry. Both are presented as the potential extra profit per lamb born in a commercial setting, compared to the population baseline. The TERMINAL INDEX supports increased profitability through improving prime lambs and is weighted strongly for meat production. The REPLACEMENT INDEX includes additional maternal traits to optimise production of female replacements. Commercial producers solely producing prime lambs should use the TERMINAL INDEX to inform their selection; however, those retaining female replacements should use the REPLACEMENT INDEX. Sub-indexes underpin the indexes to provide more information on the relative values and ranking of animals for growth, fat and muscle weight, and reproduction. An example High ranking rams deliver over £4.50 per lamb more than lower-ranking rams. Over a ram’s working lifetime, this is easily worth an extra £690 per ram; generated through shorter finish times and improved carcass quality.

Breed Better. Buy Smarter. Reduce Risk. Texel Performance Indexes are designed to help commercial producers and pedigree breeders identify animals with the greatest potential to improve flock profitability.
Higher Value = Higher Potential Animals are ranked to make selection simple; high index Texel rams (Top 5% and above) add over £650 to their commercial progeny compared to those ranked as average. Which Index? Prime lamb producers should use the terminal index as this is weighted for meat production. Pedigree breeders and producers retaining female replacements should use the replacement index as this balances maternal and carcass traits.
Sub-indexes for growth, muscle and fat weight and reproduction allow breeders and commercial producers to identify animals that offer advantages in areas to suit their production goals. CONDITIONS OF SALE All sheep are sold under the Conditions of Sale as displayed in the market recommended for use by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association Ltd SCHEDULE 2 – SHEEP In this Schedule the words or expression: 36
Definitions “In Lamb” or “Due to Lamb” means any female sheep carrying a lamb but shall not imply that any lamb due will be born alive and, where the female sheep is stated to be In Lamb or Due to Lamb to a named ram the Vendor shall provide the Auctioneer with details of the ram, his ear tag number and any breed society registration number together with such, if any, further information that may be required of him, such information to be included in any catalogue for the sale and announced at the sale.

Female sheep Vendor’s warranty Each female sheep is warranted not to be In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 weeks and 5 Day Warranty. If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to 33.33 per cent of the purchase price. Purchaser’s rights Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughter-house manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming the sheep to have been In Lamb for a period of at least 12 weeks on the day of sale.

Female sheep not described as In Lamb The Vendor warrants that a female sheep not described in any catalogue for sale or at the time of sale as In Lamb is not In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 Week + 5 Day Warranty. 38.1 Vendor’s warranty 38.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughterhouse manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming that the sheep was In Lamb

Female sheep described as correct The Vendor warrants that all female sheep described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as correct are sound in mouth and udder, that is they are not lacking any of the 8 broad teeth and do not have any damaged or worn teeth or a defective udder. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. 39.1 Vendor’s warranty 39.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate. 40
Female sheep proving barren The Vendor warrants that any female sheep sold as being In Lamb is In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 21 Day Warranty. 40.1 Vendor’s warranty 40.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate. 41
Ewes with lambs at foot The Vendor warrants that, unless stated to the contrary in any catalogue for the sale or at the time of sale, in a Lot in which the ewes are described as with lamb or with lambs at foot every ewe is suckling one or more lambs, and every lamb has a mother in the Lot. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. 41.1 Vendor’s warranty 41.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6 in respect of any ewe which does not have a lamb or any motherless lamb. 42
Castrated sheep The Vendor warrants that, unless stated to the contrary in any catalogue for sale or at the time of sale, any male sheep not expressly sold as rams: 42.1 Vendor’s warranty a) have been castrated; and b) have not been imperfectly castrated. The warranty in Condition 42.1 (a) is an After Sale Warranty and the warranty in Condition 42.1 (b) is a 14 + 5 Day Warranty.

42.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to 33.33 per cent of the purchase price of the sheep concerned. If other sheep had been sold in the Lot the compensation payment shall be calculated on the basis of the average price per head of all animals in the Lot. 43
Stock rams The Vendor warrants that any ram sold as a stock ram for the amount in paragraph (j) of the Appendix or more is capable of natural service. This warranty is a 10 Week Warranty. 43.1 Vendor’s warranty 43.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty the Purchaser may return the ram to the Vendor who shall, at the Purchaser’s option, either replace the ram with another ram of equal value which is capable of natural service, or refund the purchase price together with such other costs and charges as the Purchaser may be entitled to under these Conditions. For the avoidance of any doubt if the Purchaser is able to obtain viable semen from the ram for use by artificial insemination he shall not be entitled to any claim against the Vendor for breach of warranty. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate confirming that: a) the ram’s inability incapacity or ineffectiveness is not the result of injury, accident or illness happening after the time of the sale; and b) the Purchaser’s breeding stock are not responsible for the ram’s inability incapacity or ineffectiveness.
