General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: This sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. ARRIVAL OF STOCK:

CONDITIONS OF SALE: Sold under the Roussin Sheep Society conditions of Sale and the Livestock Auctioneers Terms & Conditions of Sale. PRE-SALE INSPECTION: All sheep forward for the sale will be subject to a Society and Veterinary Inspection. Any animal which does not reach the Inspection standard will not be eligible for sale. The Inspection decision will be final and any animal failed will be removed from the sale and forfeit the entry fee. METHOD OF SALE: All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. COMMISSIONS: The auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend the sale personally, upon receipt of written instructions. INSURANCE: A representative of Auctioneers Insurance Brokers will be present at the sale and will be pleased to quote purchasers for transit and other risks. SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK: Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of sale. No animal may leave the sale premises without an offical ‘pass slip’ obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement. About the breed: ‘Roussin de la Hague’ sheep are carefully bred in France through a Normandybased progeny testing centre that require rams to attain eligibility criteria for performance and scrapie status to be considered for nomination. Ram progeny are monitored and graded and sold annually at a sale in Joburg. The first major influx of Roussin sheep into the UK was around 1990. Since then the breed has grown in popularity, with a reputation for lambing ease, mothering and prolificacy whilst retaining a compact muscular carcase to produce a ‘market specification’ lamb. Today rams are purchased frequently by many different buyers ranging from outdoor-lambing hill flocks in the Scottish Highlands to lowland terminal cross flocks looking to lamb ewe hoggs with the option of retaining females as replacements. Today, all UK Roussins are genetically evaluated through a whole breed analysis for traits including prolificacy with some breeders are recording additional traits like growth rate, muscling and fat depth. Pre sale show: Roussin entries will be judged at 10.30am on 25th September by commercial Roussin breeder Scott Young. Roussin Sheep Society - Special Sale Rules 1. 2.
All Pedigree Sheep to be sold in guineas. Commission will be deducted at the rate of 5.25% on all pedigree sheep sold, together with a 2% Society Levy. 3. Any animals in the Sale Premises which are sold by private treaty after the Auction are subject to the full commission on the price realised and all such transactions must be passed through the Auctioneers. 4. There will be an Upset Price as follows: all rams 150gns and all females 125gns. 5. All sheep will be identified with tags hung around their necks. 6. Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale if they are accompanied by an Official MV Status Certificate which has been correctly completed. This Certificate must be handed in when the animal/s arrive at the market. 7. All sheep will be subject to society and veterinary inspection on Saturday 25th September between 9.00am and 10.00am. Any sheep being found unfit will be withdrawn from the sale. 8. No sheep to be presented while suffering from any contagious disease. All sheep should be treated against scab. 9. The vendor shall be responsible for the correctness of identity, and all sheep must have official ear tattoos and ministry tags. Buyers shall have one hour following the end of the sale to lodge any faults or misrepresentations to the Auctioneers. 10. The purchaser must satisfy himself as to the soundness and correctness of his purchase within one hour of the conclusion of the sale. 11. All sheep must be forward for penning between the following times: Friday 24th SEPTEMBER between 2pm – 6pm Saturday 25th SEPTEMBER between 7am and 9am Please note – A representative will be on duty to collect and inspect all Maedi Visna Certificates. The following minimum weights will apply: MALES Lambs 50kgs Shearlings 75kgs FEMALES Lambs 40kgs 12. Any 2 shear or older female offered for sale must have had lamb(s) registered with the Society during the previous two years, and must be correct in the udder. 13. All sheep to be sold in the appropriate class and in the owner’s flock group. The Classes will be: i) Ewes ii) Shearling Gimmers iii) Ewe Lambs iv) Shearling Rams v) Lamb Rams 14. All Roussin Lambs offered for sale are not to be faked in any way by carding combs, shears etc. except to tidy up cheeks, square tails. All sheep offered for sale at one year old or older to be bare clipped after 1st April, thereafter the same rules as lambs apply. No artificial colouring or staining of fleeces other than that contained in a Wool Board Approved Dip. Faces and legs may not be artificially coloured in any way. The use of hair removing substances is strictly forbidden. 15. All male sheep to have two correct testicles. No Rigs or Chasers to be shown or sold. 16. The vendors are responsible for taking their sheep to the sale ring and returning them to the pens after being offered for sale. 17. The Purchaser will not be entitled to a claim for consequential loss as a result of infertility or any other reason. 18. Errors and Omissions. The Auctioneers CAN ACCEPT NO responsibility for any errors or omissions printed in this catalogue.

CONDITIONS OF SALE All sheep are sold under the Conditions of Sale as displayed in the market recommended for use by the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association Ltd SCHEDULE 2 – SHEEP 36
Definitions In this Schedule the words or expression: “In Lamb” or “Due to Lamb” means any female sheep carrying a lamb but shall not imply that any lamb due will be born alive and, where the female sheep is stated to be In Lamb or Due to Lamb to a named ram the Vendor shall provide the Auctioneer with details of the ram, his ear tag number and any breed society registration number together with such, if any, further information that may be required of him, such information to be included in any catalogue for the sale and announced at the sale.
37 Female sheep 37.1 Vendor’s warranty Each female sheep is warranted not to be In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 weeks and 5 Day Warranty. 37.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to 33.33 per cent of the purchase price. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughter-house manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming the sheep to have been In Lamb for a period of at least 12 weeks on the day of sale. 38 Female sheep not described as In Lamb 38.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that a female sheep not described in any catalogue for sale or at the time of sale as In Lamb is not In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 14 Week + 5 Day Warranty. 38.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate or a slaughterhouse manager’s or other competent person’s certificate confirming that the sheep was In Lamb 39 Female sheep described as correct 39.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that all female sheep described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as correct are sound in mouth and udder, that is they are not lacking any of the 8 broad teeth and do not have any damaged or worn teeth or a defective udder. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. 39.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either the Purchaser may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to the amount in paragraph (i) of the Appendix. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate.

40 Female sheep proving barren 40.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that any female sheep sold as being In Lamb is In Lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 21 Day Warranty. 40.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate. 41 Ewes with lambs at foot 41.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that, unless stated to the contrary in any catalogue for the sale or at the time of sale, in a Lot in which the ewes are described as with lamb or with lambs at foot every ewe is suckling one or more lambs, and every lamb has a mother in the Lot. This warranty is a 5 Day Warranty. 41.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6 in respect of any ewe which does not have a lamb or any motherless lamb. 42 Castrated sheep 42.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that, unless stated to the contrary in any catalogue for sale or at the time of sale, any male sheep not expressly sold as rams: a) have been castrated; and b) have not been imperfectly castrated. The warranty in Condition 42.1 (a) is an After Sale Warranty and the warranty in Condition 42.1 (b) is a 14 + 5 Day Warranty. 42.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty then, at the Purchaser’s option, either he may exercise his rights under Schedule 6, or the Vendor shall pay to the Purchaser as Liquidated Damages a sum equal to 33.33 per cent of the purchase price of the sheep concerned. If other sheep had been sold in the Lot the compensation payment shall be calculated on the basis of the average price per head of all animals in the Lot. 43 Stock rams 43.1 Vendor’s warranty The Vendor warrants that any ram sold as a stock ram for the amount in paragraph (j) of the Appendix or more is capable of natural service. This warranty is a 10 Week Warranty. 43.2 Purchaser’s rights If the Purchaser proves a breach of warranty the Purchaser may return the ram to the Vendor who shall, at the Purchaser’s option, either replace the ram with another ram of equal value which is capable of natural service, or refund the purchase price together with such other costs and charges as the Purchaser may be entitled to under these Conditions. For the avoidance of any doubt if the Purchaser is able to obtain viable semen from the ram for use by artificial insemination he shall not be entitled to any claim against the Vendor for breach of warranty. Notice of a claim must be supported by a Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate confirming that: a) the ram’s inability incapacity or ineffectiveness is not the result of injury, accident or illness happening after the time of the sale; and b) the Purchaser’s breeding stock are not responsible for the ram’s inability incapacity or ineffectiveness.
