General Information & Sale Notes
LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle Cumbria. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The Market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6.
VIEWING - The Sale Sheep will be available for inspection at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on the morning of the sale. Prior Inspection of the sheep is most welcome by appointment with the vendors (see page 1).
HOTELS - There are many hotels within the area, ranging from four star to excellent Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a list of which may be found on page 4 of the catalogue.
CONDITIONS OF SALE - The pedigrees and descriptions of each lot are believed be be correct. The flock will be sold under Dispersal Sale rules and no warranties of any sort are implied or given.
FLOCK HEALTH STATUS - All sheep are MV accredited.
METHOD OF SALE - All sheep will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers.
COMMISSIONS - The Auctioneers will dutifully execute commissions to purchase for buyers unable to attend the sale personally, upon receipt of written instructions.
SETTLEMENT AND CLEARANCE OF STOCK - Settlement in full is due immediately at the close of Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official ‘Pass Slip’, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement.

Foreword Rossiebank Bluefaced Leicester flock is based at Broadleys, Dunning, Perth and was founded in 1973 with the purchase of 8 ewes from the dispersal of the Ancroftmoor flock. It was then expanded with the purchase of ewe hoggs for 3 years from the Burndale flock (the late Eddie Henderson). I have always carefully selected stud rams either from our own production lines or well known flocks and have focused on breeding ewes with ability to lamb themselves and rear their own lambs. All ewes were sired by natural service and the flock has always been MV accredited (eligible for export to Northern Ireland) with an emphasis on good health, hardiness and milk production. For over 40 years the main focus has been selling shearling rams to the top Mule ewe lamb breeders in the North of Scotland at Huntly, Thainstone and Dingwall markets. These sales require rams to demonstrate a number of qualities including to have his head in the air, a sharp look, a bright eye and a good body with a leg in each corner. Over the years I have also sold ram lambs at Kelso, Castle Douglas and Carlisle where they were amongst the leading lots each year. One of the highlights was in 2005 when I won the JR Bell & Son trophy for the highest price ram lamb outwith the prize list at Hexham, Lazonby and Carlisle. Surplus females have mostly been sold off farm to new breeders. In 2001 (after the foot and mouth outbreak) I sold a number of ewes to help re-stock other flocks including Frank Johnston’s Ashes flock. In recent years I have also sold females at Carlisle. The Rossiebank flock has achieved excellent results at shows which were able to accommodate MV sheep. Recent highlights include: 2012 – At the first Scottish Progeny Show at Turriff which attracted exhibitors from all over Scotland the flock won Overall Champion with a ewe lamb, Reserve and Male Champion with ram lambs and in addition won Champion progeny group of 3 ewe lambs and Reserve progeny group with 3 rams. Won Champion at 3 Scottish Shows the highlight being winning Interbreed Pairs at Perth Show with a ram and ewe lamb which had never previously been achieved by a Bluefaced Leicester. 2015 – Won Reserve Champion with a pair of shearling rams (840/G11 and 840/G19) at the progeny show at Peebles. 2017 – Champion and Reserve Champion at 3 Scottish Shows (Champion was 840/J110)

2018 – Champion and Reserve Champion at Fife Show (Champion was 840/K92). Champion with ewe (840/J110) at Scottish Progeny Show at Dumfries. Also won Champion pair of ewes by the same sire, 1st prize pair of lambs (any sex), 2nd prize pair of gimmers, 2nd prize pair of shearling rams and 2nd prize group of 3 ewe lambs. Over the years stock rams have been purchased from the following flocks – Old Park, Charleton, Middle Dukesfield, Penine, Rosehill, Wallholm, Burndale, Lowsfell, Red Cottage, Hazelwood, Mossermains, Carry House, Cocklaw, Millhouse, Mendick, Fourstones, Midscale, Ashes. Some of the most recent rams who have had great influence on the flock were: Rossiebank 840/B1 sire of the Champion at the Progeny Show, Turriff and sire of Rossiebank 840/E11 who has never been beaten in the show ring. Rossiebank 840/G11 sire of 840/J110 Champion ewe at Dumfries Show and also sire of Champion pair of ewes at Dumfries Progeny Show. Rossiebank J20 is breeding males and females exceptionally well. The entire Rossiebank flock is being offered for sale due to health reasons and offers an ideal opportunity to purchase foundation or replacement stocks.
