VALUABLE SILVER CHALLENGE CUP: given by the Middleton in Teesdale Farmers Mart Ltd, to be competed for at the Middleton in Teesdale Farmers Mart for the BEST REGISTERED SWALEDALE AGED RAM, the property of a member of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association. The winner to retain the cup for one year, when it must be returned in perfect condition to the Mart Secretary one week previous to the next Ram sale. The prize winning Ram to be bona-fide sold through the ring or the cup will be withheld and not treated as won by the owner of such Ram. Any exhibitor who wins the cup 3 times in succession or 5 times in all may claim it as his own property.

Rules

1. The Shows and Sales are confined to Registered Sheep in the hands of Registered Members of the Swaledale Sheep breeders’ Association.

2. No unregistered rams allowed on Mart Premises on days of Official Registered Sales.

3. All Rams to be allowed one entry only at Official Ram Sales. If any Ram is found to be entered at more than one sale it will be catalogued for the earliest sale at which it is entered.

4. All Aged and Shearling Rams entered for sale must have undergone scrapie genotyping by an organisation approved by the Association and found to be clear of Valene.

5. In the event that the scrapie genotyping result, with which the ram was sold, proves incorrect for whatever reason, the Association accepts no liability whatsoever in contract, or negligence or otherwise for any loss, damage, costs or expenses of any nature whatsoever incurred or suffered by the buyer including of an indirec t or consequential nature, including without limitation economic loss, or the loss of turnover, profits, business or goodwill.

6. In the event of any ram being sold with a genotyping result which is proven to be incorrect by a certificate issued by a Veterinary Investigation Centre, the Vendor shall refund to the Purchaser the full purchase price without deductions. In the event of such a refund, the title of the ram shall again vest in the breeder. If any discount is given by the Vendor to the Purchaser, at the time of purchase, this must be refunded.

7. The Association does not guarantee the stock getting capability of any Ram offered for sale. Individual members can undertake to guarantee the stock getting capability of their rams, but having done so, any matter of dispute which may arise shall be resolved between such vendor and purchaser. The Association and the Auction Mart assumes no responsibility whatsoever.

8. At time of registration, if a Shearling Ram is passed by the Inspectors, it is deemed as correct.

9. The Committee does not guarantee that all Rams will be forward.

10. All sheep to pass through the Sale Ring. No sheep allowed to be sold privately unless it has already passed through the Ring.

11. Sale numbers on all Rams must correspond with registration number or purchaser will have the right to annul the sale. This to apply before the ram leaves the Mart. The vendor to be responsible to see that catalogue information is correct and that any inaccuracies be announced at the time of sale.

12. In the event of any Shearling Ram sold by the Breeder developing ‘’scrapie’’ within one year of purchase then the Vendor will refund to the Purchaser the full price (without deductions) provided that the disease is confirmed by a certificate issued by a veterinary investigation centre and the Vendor if given seven days notice of such condition prior to slaughter or disposal of the carcase to enable an inspection to be made. In the event of such a refund then the title of the ram shall again vest in the Breeder. If any discount is given by the vendor to the purchaser at the time of purchase this must be refunded. If the Shearling Ram was purchased as a Ram Lamb, then the vendor of the Shearling in question is entitled to claim the Ram Lamb purchased price from the vendor of the lamb.

13. That any ram semen taken for the purpose of Artificial Insemination must be declared and specified at the time of sale and that any prospective purchaser should satisfy himself as to what extent. Any dispute arising shall be resolved between such vendor and purchaser.

14. From Autumn 2021, any ram lamb offered for sale at Association sales, and all ram lambs intended for breeding as ram lambs must be scrapie Genotyped.

15. All entries to be received by the date and time stated on the entry form or will not be accepted.

16. All prize-winning animals to be bona-fide sold in the Ring. If not, prize to revert to the next animal placed by the Judges. The decision of the Judges shall be final, and all disputes settled by the Committee.

17. All Rams to be paid for to the accountant before leaving the Mart.

18. 4.25p in the £ charged upon the vendor. No commission to Purchasers. 1p in the £ levy charged upon the Vendor collected for the Swaledale Sheep Breeders’ Association.

19. An entrance fee of £1 each entry for Exhibits in all Classes. Rams to be sold strictly in order of Ballot. Rams missing turn to be sold last. First pen drawn from each section; Aged Ram, Ram Lamb and Shearling Ram if not sold may be offered at the end of each section.
