The Quail Family have been butchers for 120 years.

They search for the same characteristics in their carcass selection as they do in their Limousin breed selection fine bone, good depth of loin, plenty of milk, great muzzle and character in their heads and easy fleshing cattle.

James Quail established The Lynderg Herd in 1977 with the purchase of the Heifer Pelletstown Lucile at Dublin Show. Four French heifers followed in 1979. In 1981 Curraghgrange Tiara was purchased, she was a tremendous brood cow which helped lay the foundations of the Lynderg Herd.

Through the years several French bulls were bought including Valide (Champion Balmoral 1986), Ocean (Champion Balmoral 2000), and Ludo (Male Champion Royal Highland and Reserve Male Balmoral 2002). Six outstanding females were purchased in 2003 Java, Ideune , Ondine, Palmira, Oralie and Sabine.

A combination of these genetics plus Tiara’s offspring has formed the core of the herd today. They have produced the home bred bull Lynderg Hero Male Champion Balmoral 2013, Male and Reserve Champion Balmoral and Royal Highland Show 2014 and All Ireland Young Bull Champion 2013. Interbreed Champion Castlewellan and Antrim 2014.

Lynderg Dimitri sold to Declan McKenna produced an Allams Supreme Champion. Lynderg Napoleon is another of our stock bulls and is the son of the show cow Janette.

Hero’s daughters form most of the females in the herd today and we pride ourselves as having different and exciting genetics to most other Limousin herds.

Jade is beautiful cow by Ocean. Her cow family Camellia won third place in the best cow family in the Northern Ireland Herd Competition 2021. Half-sister to Jade, Lynderg Renee sold in last year’s sale for 7600gns, her daughter Lynderg Roseanne sold at last years sale for 2800gns. Jades grandmother Sabine is a French cow with a lot of milk. So there is milk on both sides coming from Ocean. Together with Ocean and Ludo there is a depth of proven championship breeding. (Ocean, Balmoral champion 2000, Ludo Male champion Royal Highland Show 2002) all packed into the genetics of Lynderg Jade. Jade has been PD'd in calf to Mereside Godolphin, AI’d 12th January, due approx. 22nd October carrying a bull calf.

Mereside Godolphin was sold at Carlisle 2013 for 40,00gns he is very easily calved.

Rosanne is a quality in-calf heifer with great depth of breeding. Her mother Venetia is an Ocean daughter going back to Tiara and her daughter Lynderg Eithne who bred the Perth Champion Lynderg Ideal in 1994. A special combination. She is a Daughter of Lynderg Dimitri who is by Sympa and the French cow Ondine who was purchased from the same herd as Ocean, from Stephan Goursolas.

Dimitri is used on Lynderg heifers for easy calving and producing quality. Dimitri produced an Allams Supreme Champion for Declan McKenna. Roseanne was A.I'd with Telfers Munster on 8th March (Due December). Munster produces very small calves and has a short gestation.

Ruth is a real quality heifer with tremendous breed character which she inherits from her sire Napoleon (Ocean – Janette) and her mother Marianne who is a huge cow. Marianne had twins as a heifer and Ruth's twin sister, Rosie was sold in last year’s sale for 2800gns.

Her sire Napoleon is a stock bull in the Lynderg Herd and is an Ocean son of Lynderg Janette, our show cow. Her younger sister Sabine is also in this sale. Ruth was AI’d on the 14th March with Dimitri. Dimitri is an easy calving bull used on heifers in the Lynderg Herd. He is a son of the French cow Ondine. She is carrying a bull calf due at the end December an exciting prospect!

She is unbelievably quiet.

Sally is a young heifer representing the easy fleshing qualities of her sire Ocean, who was bred in France by Stephan Goursolas. Ocean was purchased in 1998 and was Limousin Overall Champion in Balmoral in 2000. He produces cattle with style, great maternal traits and recognised for passing on a lot of milk to his females. Sally’s mother Molly is a daughter of Hero. Our biggest cow she showcases both size and breed characteristics. Molly’s first calf Lynderg Onyx was sold as a stock bull into the pedigree herd of Ian Barr, Antrim.

Her full sister Pearl was sold in last year’s sale for 6500gns. Together with Ocean and Lynderg Hero there is a depth of proven championship breeding. (Ocean, Balmoral 2000, Hero, Balmoral 2013 & 2014, Royal Highland Show 2014) all packed into the genetics of Lynderg Sally. She has been AI’D on 20th June with Telfers Munster and will grow into a smashing young cow.

Galmira is a daughter of the French cow Palmira and Lynderg Dimitri.
