General Information & Sale Notes Location: The Sale will be held at the Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, Cumbria situated close to the M6 Junction 43. Motorists (from north or south) should leave the Motorway at this Junction and turn west towards Carlisle on the A69. The Mart is within1/4 mile of the Motorway (filter left at the traffic lights) on the Rosehill Industrial Estate.

Method and Order of Sale: All animals will be sold in Guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is authorised and announced by the Auctioneers.

Conditions Of Sale: The Sale is held subject to the Auctioneers General Terms and Conditions of Sale (printed in this catalogue) Settlement And Clearance Of Stock: Settlement in full is due to the Auctioneers immediately at the conclusion of the Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official PASS obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement and all stock should be cleared from the sale premises on the day of the sale.

Export: The vendor is willing to offer cattle for export to N.Ireland and the Rep. of Ireland as well as to Europe (subject to health requirements). Animals purchased for export will return to Knowe Farm, Auchinleck, Ayrshire, KA18 2LT for the required 40-day period prior to export at the vendors cost and the buyers risk. All export and transport cost are the responsibility of the buyer.

All purchases must be paid for a the close of sale including cattle for export.

Commissions: The Auctioneers will faithfully execute commissions to purchase on behalf of buyers unable to attend the sale in person upon receipt of written notice and instructions received in their office not later than 48 hours before commencement of sale. Foreword

I am proud to be the fourth generation of George Templeton’s to have milked Ayrshire cows and this sale is a celebration of a century of dairy farming at Knowe Farm. We have had many cherished memories over the years and representing the Ayrshire Cattle Society as their president was a special time as was winning Grand Champion at the Royal Highland in 2007 with Knowe Brown Kate.

At the core of our farm is the Ayrshire cow and we believe she has an important role to play in the future at Knowe Farm. Our daughter Claire and partner Neil have plans to take the business forward in the future and this sale is part of our succession planning.

We have had much success with the introduction of sexed semen and currently have reached capacity. The animals selected for this special sale are all the kind we would want to buy ourselves. They are from our best breeding lines and all the in-calf heifers and cows carry services by sexed semen apart from those coming to Clydeview Jacot Rose.

The philosophy at Knowe has been to breed a robust, productive cow with an attractive udder and a large percentage of the sale animals back this up in the classifications.

Selecting blood lines that excel in butterfat and protein has been a major focus during my farming career and reflects in the herds production that now averages close to 800kgs of combined fat and protein.

The Royal Highland Show has just taken place and our most successful heifer Knowe B-King Dainty Lass who placed 1st in class and Hon. Mention, she sells lot 123.

The KNOWE prefix is one of the most recognized in the Ayrshire breed and has been at the forefront of breed development for some time. George Templeton is the fourth generation to milk Ayrshire cows and this year the Templeton family celebrates 100 years at Knowe Farm.

Production, Type and Longevity have been three of the main ingredients in the success for this fine herd which is currently averaging 9455kg 4.26% butterfat 3.37% protein at the most recent test the cows averaged 31.2kgs.

The herd is managed in a modern cubicle facility with grass silage the main ingredient in the TMR along with a dairy blend and minerals. Heifers join the herd at an average age of 25 months, first service starts at 45 day in milk and the Calving Interval is 383 days.

‘Youthful’ is a great way to describe this quality group of milkers. Selling are 5 cows in their third lactation, 29 cows in their second and 29 heifers of which there are 1 Excellent & 20 Very Goods with most of the heifers still to score. These fine young animals are bred from the BEST families in the herd including the; BROWN KATE, WHITE LILY, DAINTY LASS & BEATRICE lines. The younger cows are sired by WILLHOME PAMS HORIZON, CUTHILL TOWERS BUSTER & KNOWE SILVER RESPECT. Some special young cows deserve mention, KNOWE FAVOURITE BEAUTY VG89 3yr is a maximum classified cow sired by West Mossgiel Modern Class and bred from an Excellent dam. This super young cow sells as Lot 13. KNOWE BARBY sells as lot 60, she is a recently calved heifer sired by Bruchag Starman, her dam is a special cow with a world class udder. She was Grand Champion at the West of Scotland Dairy Show in 2019. There are many more to talk about so please take the time to peruse the pedigrees in the following pages.

In many ways one of the BIG ATTRACTIONS in this event must be the youngstock, that includes 28 in calf heifers, 40 yearling heifers born in 2020 and 25 heifer calves born in 2021 that will follow their dams in the sale ring. This exceptional group are sired by DE LA PLAINE B-KING, KAMOURASKA RENOIR, PAM AYRS HAWAIIAN &TROUTBECK SKYFALL and include (lot 123) KNOWE B-KING DAINTY LASS who placed 1st August Calf at the recent Royal Highland Show. All the in-calf heifers apart from 4 carry pregnancies to sexed semen.
