The ewes will be sold on this scanning result only and in preference to any other scanning result the vendor may have obtained. Any empty ewes will be marked with a green mark and may still be sold as empty in same catalogue order. Whiteby Dracula has many good quality stock on the ground and this sheep is no different. A really nice tup, well grown, good colouring but unfortunately too closely related to some of my sheep.

Seller Comments: This shearling has been out showing this year and has numerous wins including Ayr and Royal Highland Show. He's by a homebred ewe sired by Isleofbute Oberon. His father is Whitby Jimmie Crankie, 5th highest indexed tup 2024 in the country, renowned for his high index for gigot (top 1%)and muscle depth (top 1%). Whitby Jimmie Crankie is a multiple winner at many shows including Royal Highland and Reserve Champion at the Scottish Club National Show 2025. This shearling pedigree and accolades would an asset to any flock.

Seller Comments for Lot 676: ARR/ARR BTV vaccinated - CT Scanned - He had the highest muscle percentage (65%) of all of the lambs CT Scanned in the breed in 2026. A late born but very well grown ram lamb with a great tight skin. A bit different breeding - Sired by Trojan who is producing some very good stock. Out of a Treworthal Maximus daughter - Maximus was Breed Champion at Devon County and Honiton as a lamb during covid, in a season that was cut short. He is an exceptional ram who we showed this year aged six years old, where he showed how excellent he still is on his feet and legs - winning first prize at the National Show at Three Counties. This ram lamb has excellent figures: 279 Terminal Sire index top 10%, 8 week weight top 5%, scan weight top 10%, days to slaughter top 10%. Happy to deliver en-route or take home for a later collection.

Sale conditions 1.0 The sale is subject to the conditions of sale recommended for use at markets by the Livestock Auctioneers Markets Committee for England and Wales except in so far as these conflict with the following conditions, when the following conditions shall prevail 2.0 The sale is confined to females registered with and males birth notified to the HDSBA and are the produce of registered MV accredited flocks and the property of fully paid up members of the HDSBA 2.1 For in lamb ewe sales all rams specified as being the ‘sire of’ or ‘having run with’ must be registered with HDSBA and must have been DNA tested and the results on Grassroots. 2.2 All rams must be DNA tested before the sale and ram lambs sire verified 2.3 ‘In-lamb’ means having run with a particular ram. It is not a guarantee that the ewe is in lamb. Many ewes will have been scanned before or on sale day and results displayed on pens. 3.0 The entry fee is £30 per animal with £14 refunded if the animal is forward for the sale. An invoice will be sent 3.1 HDSBA reserves the right to govern the number of entries at sales. The closing date for entries (10th September) will be strictly adhered to late entries may only be accepted if they contribute to a total that makes the sale viable. 3.2 The order of sale and position in the catalogue will be determined by ballot. Maximum of four lots from each vendor to be sold consecutively. Vendors with more than 4 entries will have their remaining entries balloted after all entries have been drawn once. 4.0 Sheep must be penned by 8am for inspection 5.0 There will be minimum reserve (upset) prices for sale entries as follows: Shearling rams 300 guineas, Ram lambs 250 guineas, Older Ewes 300 guineas, Shearling ewe 400 guineas, Ewe lambs 300 guineas, March born ewe lambs 250 guineas 5.1 Any sheep sold outside the ring must not be below these minimum prices and must be booked through the Auctioneers. Any sheep failing to reach the upset price in its category will be passed out unsold. 5.2 Sheep will be sold in guineas. A commission of 5p in the guinea plus VAT will be charged to the Vendor. Any charges or costs arising after the sheep have been sold (e.g. additional haulage, accommodation charges, veterinary fees etc.) will be borne by the purchaser (including overseas buyers) 5.3 The Purchaser to give his full name and home address and pay for all Lots purchased immediately at the close of the sale. No Lot or Lots shall be removed from the sale premises until paid for and a pass out slip obtained from the Auctioneers but each and every lot shall immediately at the fall of the hammer be considered as delivered and be and remain in every respect at the absolute risk and expense of the Purchaser and shall be removed from the sale premises at the Purchaser’s expense. The right of property shall not pass until the full purchase price is paid. 5.4 Purchasers paying by cheque must be prepared to produce reasonable proof of identity 6.0 Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale if they are accompanied by a current SAC certificate of official MVA status which has been correctly completed 6.1 Sheep entered as Scrapie Monitored must be accompanied by a copy of the SMS certificate 6.2 Sheep catalogued with a Scrapie genotype must be accompanied by a valid certificate 7.0 All tags must comply with UK legislation and HDSBA rules on identification 8.0 All sheep must be paint branded by the owners with the catalogue numbers only. Substitutes must be declared to the HDSBA and to the Auctioneers not less than 48 hours prior to the sale and must be marked with a red dot not less than one inch in diameter behind the lot number. Subs are as follows: 1 sub for five sheep entered, 2 subs for 10 sheep entered, 3 subs for 15 sheep entered and so on. All rams must be substituted with a ram that has been DNA tested & sire verified 9.0 Any animal got by ET must be identified as such in the catalogue 9.1 Any rams with semen retained before sale or females which have been flushed and embryos recovered before sale must be declared in the catalogue and announced at the time of sale. Failure to do so will result in the purchaser having the right to return the sheep and be repaid the purchase price and costs.
9.2 Any female that has been subjected to any abdominal surgery including laparoscopic AI, embryo transfer or Caesarean section must be so declared in the catalogue and must be physically capable of breeding again 10.0 All sheep entered and forward at any sale will be inspected by an official HDSBA Inspector to ensure that:(a) their ear tag and lot numbers tally with the catalogue and with current UK legislation (b) they comply with HDSBA’s breed standard (c) they are of good conformation and size and/or condition, If an inspector is concerned over the quality of the animal then we reserve the right to weigh it to see how it compares to society guidelines (Guidelines for shearling rams 85kg; shearling ewes 70kg; ram lambs 55kg; ewe lambs, 50kg) (d) they are not incorrectly docked; daggy; faulty in teeth, testicles or udder; lame or showing signs of disease. (e) any sheep which, in the opinion of the inspectors is urine stained to the extent that it’s a welfare issue will be excluded from the sale 10.1 The expected minimum scrotum circumference (at widest) is for lambs 30cms and for shearlings 35cms 10.2 Any animals rejected by the Inspector will be marked by him and shall not be sold during or following the end of the sale. 10.3 The Inspector’s decision is final and binding and the Inspector shall be absolved from any responsibility or liability for any action taken as a result of his advice 10.4 The inclusion of any animal in the sale following any inspection is no warranty that the particular animal meets any criterion in respect of any standards or will do so in the future. Neither is it a warranty of health. 11.0 No colouring matter may be used on head or legs. Samples of hair may be collected from randomly selected animals and analysed for the presence of colouring matter. In the event of any sheep being found to have been artificially coloured, the owner will be required forthwith by the Inspector to remove from the sale yard that sheep together with all other sheep in the same consignment. If sheep are found to have been artificially coloured the matter may be referred to the Sales Committee of HDSBA for consideration as to whether any reference should be made to the Disciplinary Committee. 11.1 The use of growth promoters is banned and HDSBA reserves the right to randomly test any sheep offered for sale. 11.2 Any interference with natural tooth growth is not permitted 12.0 All shearlings must have been shorn bare after 1st April in the year of sale. 12.1 All rams, including ram lambs, are warranted by the Vendor to be capable of natural and effective service within 90 days of the sale. If at the expiration of the warranty period a ram is proven incapable of natural and effective service and within 14 days of the expiration of the warranty period a Veterinary Certificate is lodged with the Auctioneers confirming (on the day of examination): (a) the ram is incapable of performing a natural effective service and (b) that the incapacity is not the result of any apparent injury, accident or illness and (c) the Veterinary Surgeon has inspected the Purchaser’s ewes and found them to be in normal, responsible breeding condition; then the Purchaser shall have the option of, either a refund of the purchase price, or accept a ram of similar quality. If the Vendor so wishes he shall be entitled to have access to the ram for a veterinary examination. If a settlement is not reached then an independent arbiter shall be appointed by the Auctioneers and his decision shall be final. The transport costs, veterinary fees etc., involved in returning stock to the Vendor must be borne by the Purchaser. Purchasers are advised to arrange insurance of any rams purchased 12.2 HDSBA does not guarantee the stock getting capabilities of any sheep 13.0 Neither the Auctioneers nor HDSBA can accept responsibility for any errors or omissions 14.0 Neither the Vendor nor the Auctioneers nor HDSBA will be responsible for any accident or injury to persons or property, through fire or any other cause whatsoever, nor for any damage by animals prior to, during or after the sale

Estimated Breeding Values While index based selection is important it is also crucial to look at individual trait EBVs for a ram and match them to your flock. Different rams can have the same terminal sire index but with different combinations of EBVs. It should be remembered that stock selection should be made on what pleases the eye and suits your flock and breeding system. Figures (EBVs) should be used as a tool to assist this selection and give supporting information about genetic influences that you cannot see. Signet’s new monthly, mixed breed analysis increases the commercial focus of existing traits and introduces a series of new EBVs. Weight adjusted traits - Please note that carcase traits are now weight adjusted. This means that EBVs are a better prediction of carcase composition at a fixed weight as opposed to the previous method of adjusting for age.
