General Information & Sale Notes LOCATION: The Sale will be held in the Borderway Mart, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA1 2RS. Motorists should leave the M6 at Junction 43 and follow CARLISLE signs. The market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. VIEWING: The Sale Cattle will be available for viewing at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Thursday 25th January from 4pm - 7pm and morning of sale. HOTELS: There are many hotels within the area, ranging from four star to excellent Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a list of which may be found on page 4 of the catalogue. CONDITIONS OF SALE: The British Limousin Cattle Society have adopted the Auction Rules and Conditions of Sale drawn up by the N.B.A. This Sale is held subject to these rules and the Auctioneers’ General Conditions of Sale, both available on request. In the event of any discrepancy between the two sets of conditions, the N.B.A. Conditions of Sale shall prevail. INSURANCE: A representative of H&H Insurance Brokers Ltd, will be present at the sale and will be pleased to quote Purchasers for transit and other risks. METHOD OF SALE: All cattle will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order, unless any alteration is announced by the Auctioneers. HALTCLIFFE HERD The Haltcliffe Reduction Sale will be offering some top females from the very best families within the herd. The name ‘Haltcliffe’ is synonymous within the Limousin breed as many prize winning and high priced animals carry this prefix. The first pedigree cattle came to Haltcliffe nearly 40 years ago back in May 1979 and have been on the farm ever since. Sadly in 2001 the herd was taken with FMD, and Craig and Matt restocked again mainly based on imported French females with particular attention being paid to cow families, namely – Renoncule – dam of Vermount 100,000gns; Ullswater 43,000gns; Umpire 18,000gns; Ben 14,000gns; Bill 10,000gns and Favori 9000gns and many outstanding females. Romance – dam of Anzac 11,000gns; Ivan 10,000gns; Upperity Reserve Female Champion National Show 2004 and Usabelle one of the best cows in the herd. Romany – dam of Imperial 28,000gns; Dynamo 15,000gns; Hercules 10,000gns; Ace 10,000gns; Ulex 9500gns; Dancer who sold privately and some tremendous females. The sale includes progeny from the above noted families together with many other top quality females including from the maternal lines of Ronick Ricole, Radio, Perle, Ainsi and Rafale. From the dominant female lines within the herd, the sale includes 16 heifers and young cows from Renoncule or her daughters; 9 heifers and young cows from Romance or her offspring; 8 heifers and young cows from Romany or her daughters, including the first daughter to sell from this family. Another important factor has definitely been two main herd sires which joined the herd during the restocking period, namely Sympa and Cloughhead Umpire. These animals having undoubtedly stamped their character throughout the Haltcliffe herd. The main service sires used across the cattle on offer are – Ampertaine Elgin –a prolific breeder (sire – Glenrick Venture, dam – Ampertaine Carla (by Samy). Grahams Michael – 2017 RHS Male Champion (sire – Ampertaine Elgin, dam – Milbrook Gingerspice (by Wilodge Vantastic). Swalesmoor Liam – 30,000gns Carlisle Feb 2017 (sire – Cloughhead Umpire, dam – Nebo Favourite (by Wilodge Vantastic). Ballyrobin Joop – 20,000gns Carlisle Feb 2016 (sire – Lowerffrydd Empire, dam – Ballyrobin Frenchy (by Wilodge Vantastic). Dinmore Jacot – outstanding first calves on the ground (sire – Requin, dam – Dinmore Caprice (by Wilodge Vantastic). Over the years the Haltcliffe Herd has enjoyed success within the North West area through the Clubs Herd competitions – Best Youngstock, Best Extra Large Herd and Champion Herd 2017 Champion Herd in the National Limousin Herd Competition 2011 Champion Herd in the NW Herd Competition 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2017

HALTCLIFFE COW FAMILIES Cloughhead Romany (Romany Family) Purchased from George Hutton as a maiden heifer who oozed class and style she has turned into a remarkable breeder of super females and bulls that breed well. A kind cow with lots of milk. We have 8 lots in the sale from the Romany line and many more by sons and grandsons. A line you can always trust. Lavande Family Lavande was the top cow in the Germain Souton Herd in France and the dam of their National Show winning heifer Operette (the best Limousin cow I have seen). Operette’s first calf was Sympa, who Dad purchased as a six month old calf in 2001. Sympa had a huge impact on our herd and many other herds. We were lucky to get two heifer calves, Ainsi and Amethyst, out of two imported embryos from Lavande in 2005. We have 2 lots in the sale that come from the Lavande line and many more by grandson Sympa. Perle Purchased at the KBS sale in 2001 for 10,000gns as an in calf heifer, she has been a great cross with Sympa. We have 5 lots in the sale from the Perle Family. As part of restocking in 2001 we went to the great show herd of Huberson in France and had the pick of his maiden heifers we bought three and three great families came from that visit. Radio A Nenuhpar daughter from one of Huberson’s best families, dam of Haltcliffe DJ, for a while the 2nd top priced Limousin bull sold in the UK at 72,000gns. We have 5 lots in the sale from the Radio family.

Rafale A Highlander daughter with great shape and lots of milk, dam of Haltcliffe Avon. We have 5 lots in the sale from this family. Romance Another Nenuhpar daughter with tremendous growth, has produced bulls that sold to 11,000gns and several wonderful females with class and power. We have 9 lots in the sale from the Romance family. Renoncule Purchased in the field from her breeder M Laleu as a maiden heifer, this was the best heifer we saw in France in 2001. She had size, length, class and beautiful breed type and became a wonderful breeder, a great milker and kind mother. We have 19 lots in the sale from the Renoncule family, one of them may give you a place in history. Still restocking in 2001 a visit to the Ronick Herd resulted in 2 maiden heifers; daughters of our old stock bull, Broadmeadows Cannon, coming back to Haltcliffe. Ronick Red Only 3 lots in the sale from Red but again she was a great cross with Sympa with sons selling to 16,000gns and great-grandson selling for 15,000gns. Ronick Ricole We have 8 lots in the sale that come from the Ricole family. We sold bulls from her to 19,000gns and heifers from her family to 20,000gns and 15,000gns. Sapho Purchased as a heifer calf from the famous Jacky Chateil Herd in France, out of Ecume one of his best cows. That great cow line can be seen in this sale with 8 lots from the Sapho Family.
If you want cows to breed well they must come from strong female families. These are the best families in the Haltcliffe Herd, I am sure they can go on and do a great job for their new owners. The cows and heifers all lie in cubicles and have done so this winter, most of them right up to the sale. Any cow or heifer not scanned in calf at the time of sale are guaranteed as breeders, as are the maiden heifers, any changes to service dates or PD results will be given out at time of sale.
