Drummore, Stranraer This is a super herd of tough, robust Ayrshire cattle from the Rhins of Galloway peninsula, the most southerly part of Scotland. The herd is currently averaging 5570kg 4.71% butterfat 3.47% protein on twice a day milking with an average cell count of 132. This complete dispersal has a total of 298 pedigree Ayrshires , comprising 170 cows and heifers in milk or dry. There are 25 heifers in milk, 27 cows in their second, 23 cows in their third, 38 fourth calvers and 57 having had five or more calves. This is a spring calving herd with the majority of the herd due in, April and May. Approximately 20 will be freshly calved for the sale. The young stock numbers selling total 101, comprising of 32 strong bulling heifers, 18 heifers from 12-18 months old, 30 heifers from 6-12 months old and 21 heifer calves under six months. Herd Health The herd is vaccinated for BVD and Lepto and is officially BVD tested clear. The booster for BVD is given at drying off. The herd is in a four year TB testing area and the herd was recently tested clear on the 15th January 2018. Johnes disease has been screened through the milk samples and the herd is officially clear.

Lepto is monitored using a bulk milk sample and the herd is clear. The herd is in the SAC Herd Health Scheme and all cows are blood tested for Johne’s at drying off.
