General Information & Sale Notes Location: The Sale will be held at the Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, Cumbria situated close to the M6 Junction 43. Motorists (from north or south) should leave the Motorway at this Junction and turn west towards Carlisle on the A69. The Mart is within1/4 mile of the Motorway (filter left at the traffic lights) on the Rosehill Industrial Estate.

Method and Order of Sale: All animals will be sold in guineas (105 pence) and strictly in catalogue order unless any alteration is authorised and announced by the Auctioneers.

Conditions Of Sale: The sale is held subject to the Auction Sale Rules of HUKI and the Auctioneers General Terms and Conditions of Sale, both available on request.

Settlement And Clearance Of Stock: Settlement in full is due to the Auctioneers immediately at the conclusion of the Sale. No animal may leave the Sale Premises without an official PASS, obtainable only from the Auctioneers upon settlement and all stock should be cleared from the sale premises on the day of the sale.

Commissions: The Auctioneers will faithfully execute commissions to purchase on behalf of buyers unable to attend the sale in person upon receipt of written notice and instructions received in their office not later than 48 hours before commencement of sale. Given the same notice telephone bids can be accommodated.

Insurance: Facilities will be available (through H&H Insurance Brokers Ltd.) for buyers to insure their animals for transit and other risks, from the fall of the hammer.

Milk Recording: The Darthogue Herd was last officially Milk recorded Thursday 10th October 2020.

Foreword The DARTHOGUE Holstein Friesian herd is a highly productive dairy herd, making the best from quality grazing and top-quality forage. Mark Farm is situated south east of Stranraer close to Glenluce Bay in an area favourable for early grass production. The herd is managed in two blocks with 50% Spring calving in February and March and the remaining half in the autumn.

Currently the herd is averaging 9150kgs at 4.25% butterfat and 3.21% protein. 50% of the animals selling are freshly calved since September and are in excellent form. This is a young herd with 73 animals selling in their first and second lactations. Fertility has been a major success in the herd’s profitability and the Calving Index is currently running at 386 days.

It is important to emphasise that these impressive results are achieved from grazing. The herd grazes day and night from early spring to late autumn. This is a genuine robust, healthy herd of Holstein Friesian cattle with enormous potential to produce high quality milk in all management systems.

Health Status The herd is vaccinated for IBR & BVD and are tested free of BVD. The herd has been screened for Johnes each quarter for the past ten years. The herd is in a four-year TB testing area and the last test was November 2020.
