Conditions of Sale 1. The sale will be conducted according to the rules of the Livestock Auctioneers Association. 2. All Ewes must be guaranteed in lamb by the vendor at the date of sale. If any female sheep, which was described in the catalogue or at the time of sale as being in lamb, proves not to have been in lamb at the time of sale within 21 days after the day of sale the purchaser gives written notice to the auctioneers of his intention to return the animal, supported by a veterinary surgeon’s certificate that such sheep has proved not to have been in lamb, then the purchaser may return such sheep to the vendor. 3. All sheep will be sold in guineas and a commission of 5.25% will be charged by the Auctioneers on all sales. 4. All sheep to be sold singly and in catalogue order. 5. All sheep will be identified with tags hung around their necks. 6. All sheep must be penned before the start of the sale otherwise they will not be sold. 7. Purchasers must satisfy themselves as to the correctness of any animal which will be their responsibility on the fall of the hammer. 9. The Pedigree and descriptions of the lots are believed to be correct, but not intended as warranty, and therefore shall be taken with all faults and errors of description. 10. (SHAFTHILL)
The sale of the entire mature portion of the Shafthill flock due to ill health and the need to reduce the workload. We have bred Bluefaced Leicesters and North of England Mule ewe lambs for the past thirty years concentrating on excellent conformation and skins with correct mouths and good legs. The flock has exhibited at the Latter Fair Show in Carlisle for the past nineteen years achieving seven 1st prizes, eight 2nd prizes and only twice not been in the top three. In 2017 the flock won Champion at the renowned Alston Moor Sale, Lazonby and Carlisle. In 2020 we had the top average at Kirkby Stephen, Carlisle and Lazonby Mule Gimmer Lamb Sales. In 2010 Shafthill 1080/C002 was born as a result of taking V22 to Neil Marston’s Hundith 24. This sheep has had the biggest impact on our flock winning Penrith Progeny Show in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and he also bred Champion Mule in 2011 and 2013. A female purchased from Scarrowmanick 14/D015 in 2012 crossed with C2 produced F1, F2 and F12. F1 was sold and did very well. F2 was retained and crossed very well and was a good follow up to C2. F12 proved to be a great breeder, she has four daughters and five granddaughters in the sale and in 2017 we sold a ram off her for £18,000. She is still going strong and in lamb again. No ET work has been done by the flock for two years and no frozen embryos have been retained. John Smith Jackson Reference to Sires: Shafthill C002 – most influential breeder in the flock. In his day served 150 Swale ewes naturally. Sire: Hundith 2004 Won Penrith Progeny Shows 2011, 2012 and 2013 with his Mule ewe lambs, along with many other Championships at local shows with Mule lambs. Only 5 ewes in the flock do not carry his breeding in them. Midlock E028 Purchased in 2012 for £6000. First ram purchased with modern day colour. Sons have crossed very well. Midlock G006 Purchased in 2014 for £4000. Embryo brother to Midlock G001 and G004. He was bought for his extreme carcase. Crossed very well, bred Champion Mule ewe lamb 2015 and winning Penrith Progeny Mule ewe lambs group 2016. Bailey Mill J001 Purchased for his style and C002 on his dams side of breeding.

Kirkby Redgate N027 Sire: Hewgill 980/M003 (Embryo brothers sold for £30,000 and £22,000) Purchased in 2020 for £1600 bought for his carcase, crossing lines and very good mouth. Kirkby Redgate AI’d 400 Swale ewes to his sire. Hewgill 980 E001 Progeny have proven to be exceptional breeders.
