Sale Information INSPECTION: All sheep forward for sale will be subject to a Society Inspection. Any animal which does not reach the Inspection Standard will have a red mark put on their back, these animals will not be allowed to be sold and must be removed from the Sale pens immediately.

The Inspector’s decision will be final.

Introduction to flocks STATESMAN FLOCK The Statesman Flock was established in 2004. Between then and now, the flock has gone from strength to strength and has established itself as one of the most successful flocks the breed has seen both in the show ring and the sale ring, winning the first ever interbreed title for the breed and selling a homebred ram, ‘Statesman Napoleon’ at Carlisle in 2014, after winning the championship, for 2,200gns. As well as a homebred shearling ewe, ‘Statesman Pinnicle’ at Carlisle last year, again after winning the championship, for a centre female record of 1,900gns. Whilst doing this, it has never lost the focus on the commercial aspect, consistently producing and selling rams off the farm to returning and new customers.

The Statesman Flock had a fantastic 2016 season, culminating in winning the Reid Minty Shield (top show flock) for the fifth time. Over the past few seasons it has been really pleasing to see stock produced by other breeders as well as our own with Statesman parentage being successful both in the show ring and the sale ring including; -

STATESMAN PINNICLE – CHAMPION CARLISLE 2016 & SOLD FOR 1,900gns

RAKEFOOT FLOCK

WJC/10/001 Full sister to Rakefoot Jacobite Carlisle sale topper 2010 and mother of Rakefoot rams Northern Light, Ozymandias and Predator. Jacobite was the father of Newark Maximus twice RWS champion for the Thomas family, and was also the father of Frances Barbours 2017 RHS champion.

The RAKEFOOT FLOCK was established in 1991 over 26 years we have tried to breed easy fleshed, well muscled stylish and naturally tight skinned sheep for the pedigree and commercial market. Whilst not showing as much now the flock has enjoyed success at many shows including championships at RHS and Great Yorkshire shows.

WJC/12/006 Champion Berrichon and reserve interbreed Dumfries show 2015. This ewe is also full sister to Rakefoot Klansman very successfully used by Martin Keeves's Headlands flock and is also full sister to WJC/11/009 sold as a ewe lamb to Martin Keeves and mother of Headlands One In A Million successfully being used by the Windrush flock.

NEWARK FLOCK

The Newark Flock was established in 1991 with a ewe purchased at the Carlisle Sale, followed by 2 gimmers the following year. Since then the flock has been a closed flock.

Rakefoot Commander, Kietle Adonis both Carlisle Champions and a tup from Inkerman who returned to Newark a few year’s after selling at 1800gns in Carlisle, were a big influence on our flock. Our own homebred tup NEW/05/055 has also left his mark through the stock.

More recent Sires have been Rakefoot Jacobite and Rakefoot Nijinsky purchased at Carlisle for 1000gns and 1550gns respectively.

We have sold tups at Carlisle every year since 1993 and many have gone on to do well for their new owners including Newark Henry to the Statesman flock, Newark Big Boy to Strathallan flock, Newark Kaiser to Criffel flock and Newark Maximus to Goitre flock.

Berrichon classes were reinstated at the RHS in 2007 and a Newark ewe has been Champion in 2012, 2015 and 2017.

Our lambs today include the Reserve Male Champion RHS and Reserve A.O.B Ayr County Show 2017, and the 2nd prize lamb at RHS 2017.

GOITRE FLOCK The Thomas family are pleased to offer sheep at the Carlisle sale for the first time this year. Established in 2001, we are by now the largest and one of the oldest, pedigree flocks in the UK, with close to 250 pedigree breeding ewes kept on the farm.

We have had considerable success during our time in the breed; winning breed champion for three years running in the Royal Welsh show (2013,14,15); and were Reserve breed, female champion and Reserve Male champion at last years show. In addition to breed champion at the 2014 and 2015 show, Reserve Continental and Reserve Overall Inter-breed was won by one of our stock rams NEWARK MAXIMUS, probably the best known ram within the breed at present. He himself is the son of the 2012 Highland Show Female and Breed champion (NEW 10009) and was purchased from Mrs F Barbour at Carlisle in 2012.

Another notable stock ram at the GOITRE Flock is the famous SPRING PRINCE CHARMING, purchased for the current BREED RECORD PRICE of 3,500gns at Worcester last year. Probably the best yearling to go through a show ring, his first ewe and ram lambs are to be auctioned here! Careful mating has resulted in lambs showing, exceptional growth rates combined with perfect conformation and correctness throughout. PRINCE was indeed worth every penny!

Our oldest stock ram- GBT10069, himself a second prize winner as a yearling at the Royal Welsh, is the result of a mating between the breed record price female at the time, and our stock ram. He is a large and meaty ram that has sired very milky ewes through the current flock. Having produced numerous class and championship winners at shows and sales, he is still going well in his old age.

At Goitre Fach we are committed to producing, large, lengthy and meaty sheep showing great longevity and milk production, as demanded by the commercial market. This is achieved through aggressive culling and a stringent selection criteria. We hope that the carefully selected group of sheep on offer at the sale will excite and please all Berrichon breeders and enthusiasts.

STRATHALLAN FLOCK STRATHALLAN DISPERSAL – THE FINAL CHAPTER

After 28 years proudly producing & enjoying our Berrichons we have made the decision to disperse the Strathallan flock. It has been a pleasure to work with this fine breed & those fellow breeders also.

Over the years we have enjoyed considerable success at local and National shows & sales.

Some of the notable successes are: 2005 Champion & Reserve Champion at the Royal Show.

2006 Champion at the Royal show as well as Champion at the Carlisle Premier sale.

2007 Champion & Reserve Champion at the Royal show as well as Champion at the Royal Highland.

2008 Champion at the Royal Highland and Champion at the Carlisle Premier sale.

2009 Champion & Reserve Champion at the Royal Highland and Champion at Builth NSA Ram sale.

Since 2009 Strathallan flock won the Championship 5 years in a row at Builth Wells NSA Ram sale.

We concluded our showing at the Royal Highland this year 2017 with Reserve Female Champion whom will sell in the dispersal – Lot 147.

The Gimmers & Ewes in this sale will all be AI’d before the sale to the Great “Samson”.

Samson himself was Paris show Champion before coming to Scotland to leave his mark in the Strathallan flock.

Our production sale in 2015 sold to average 700gns for 21 head. This group we offer in our dispersal are those we chose to keep in 2015, so we have saved the best till last. So please bid with confidence on the Strathallan Flock “Final Chapter” dispersal.

All breeding sheep are on the Heptovac program and have a regular worming dose.

WINDRUSH FLOCK The WINDRUSH FLOCK was established in 2012 and since then our aim has been to breed quality sheep for both pedigree and commercial use which are correct, shapely and stylish with good skins and easy fleshing traits, that is, they keep their backs and have the ability to thrive and finish from grass alone.

It has been very pleasing for us to see our stock performing so well for those that have purchased from us, both in the show ring and in the field, whether it be pedigree stock or commercial rams. Just in 2017 (to date), Windrush stock or Windrush sired stock have achieved the following; - breed champion & male champion (Windrush Professor sired), reserve male champion (Windrush Python sired) & reserve female champion (Windrush Superstar) @ Royal Three Counties Show, - reserve champion & male champion @ Royal Highland Show (Windrush Ringmaster), - breed champion & male champion (Windrush Python sired), top price (Windrush Strongman) & ewe lamb breed record (Windrush Python sired) @ Worcester Early First Choice Sale, - reserve male champion (Windrush Spotlight) & reserve female champion (Windrush Superstar) @ Great Yorkshire Show, - reserve breed champion & reserve female champion (Windrush Superstar), male champion (Windrush Spotlight) & reserve male champion (Windrush Python sired) @Royal Welsh Show.

Some of the above-mentioned stock are related to our highly successful, proven stock ram, Headlands One In A Million (see photo below). He is the sire or grand sire of some of the stock we offer for sale here.

Due to the lack of genetic variation that exists in the Berrichon breed, we carefully carried out a progressive breeding programme in conjunction with AB Europe, using sires that have not had progeny on the market for many years. We are hugely excited to offer our first embryo transplant lamb from this programme (Windrush Spotlight – lot 89 – see photo below).
